Waiting on Wednesday {40}

Today’s Waiting on Wednesday post is the highly anticipated but sort of unfortunately named prequel to the Hunger Games Trilogy – The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes.

~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Title: The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes

Author: Suzanne Collins – Her Website

SUMMARY:

The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes will revisit the world of Panem sixty-four years before the events of The Hunger Games, starting on the morning of the reaping of the Tenth Hunger Games.

This is all we’ve gotten! Its so vague but if you do the math, it seems possible that it could have something to do with Mags, a character from the second book. I’m really not sure but we’ll see if we get anything more…

WHY I’M WAITING:

First off, let me just get it out of the way that I’m not a fan of the title at all. It seems like they were just trying to go for the uber popular formula as of late to be like The ___________ of __________ and ___________ and frankly they get boring and overdone. The simple and straight to the point titles of the original trilogy are just so much better.

That being said! I love the Hunger Games trilogy. While I do think the 2nd book is the best and the third book is the weakest one of them and not the BEST ending, I do still love the series and reread it about once a year – I just finished my reread actually. So I’m really excited to be back in that world. We know where things are headed, since this is a prequel but I kind of like that Collins decided to go backward instead of forward. I think it’ll be interesting to see what the Games were like back then, without Katniss and in the early days when they were still learning and pulling themselves out of the Dark Days. I feel like sequels don’t always do so hot so I’m really glad its a prequel and it feels like its been AGES since Mockingjay (2010) so its definitely a highly anticipated book. Let’s just hope it lives up to the hype and the long wait!
