Hi! My name is Sara. Welcome to my blog!
I’ve been running this blog for nearly seven years now. It started off as a sort of angry girl rant because I was so angry ALL THE TIME that people were hating on young adult literature and it sort of went from there. I’ve had an amazing six years working on this blog. There was about a year where I wasn’t active, working on my novels, and it feels so good to be back!
I’ve had so many opportunities with this blog! I’ve met so many authors, become friends with them, along with amazing publishers, publicists, bloggers, fangirls and boys, librarians, booksellers and more. I’ve been to red carpet premieres and read more books that I probably would have ever imagined.
I have grown up in Southern California my entire life, the oldest of six kids. Reading and writing were important to me from the beginning. I wish I could pinpoint the moment that reading became the world to me, but honestly I’ve never had that moment. I’ve been reading all my life and I remember reading Baby-Sitters Club, Sweet Valley High, Meg Cabot and Sarah Dessen when I was younger, then Harry Potter (which legitimately became an obsession), and then the entire world of YA. I read anywhere from fifty to two hundred books a year, depending on if I’m on deadline, self-inflicted or not!
I wrote my first real story when I was nine and that was the first time I realized that being a writer was an actual job and that I was already pretty good at it. I’ve been writing ever since; poems, letters, books, short stories. My first novel, a young adult science fiction, The Awakened, was published in December of 2015 and the sequel, The Sanctuary, followed a year later.
I still live in Southern California, with my boyfriend, Daniel, and four awesome roommates. I work for a home health care agency when I’m not buried in a book, either reading or writing.
My boyfriend, Daniel, is one of the most amazing people on the planet and I am so lucky to have him. He supports me 100%. He gets me to be a better person, made me fall in love with craft beer and hiking and makes me feel happy on the days where its super hard to do so.
My favorite fandoms include: Harry Potter, Star Wars, Wonder Woman, Shadowhunters (mostly the Mortal Instruments), Grishaverse, Doctor Who, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Hamilton and other musical theater, and so many more.
I love cupcakes, Angels baseball, getting tattoos and watching too much television on Netflix. I love enjoying a drink and spending time with my family and my friends. Music is my life and you can often find me listening to music like Something Corporate, Fall Out Boy, Panic! at the Disco, Set It Off, Issues, Palisades, Our Last Night and more or the Hamilton soundtrack. I love going to the theatre to see musicals! I’m in love with Los Angeles and Southern California and you’ll have to work hard to tear me away!
Less than a year ago, I adopted a kitten for the first time. I have wanted a cat my entire life so I was super stoked to finally get one, a gift to myself for my 30th birthday. I named my little tortie Kaz, after one of the main characters in Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows duology and she definitely lives up to her name. She is the cutest, the stubbornest and the best little baby in the entire world. You can follow her on instagram too!
Another change over the past year is that I was recently diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in May of 2018. This has had a completely crazy impact on my life. I’ve changed my diet and gotten way more active in the past six months or so and discovered that I actually enjoy running…go figure! I ran my first 5K in November of 2018 and it was Wonder Woman themed, which felt very very fitting for me! A big blogging goal for 2019 is to work on my offshoot blog, A Nerd Girl Gets Fit, to talk about this crazy new journey I’m on!
I hope you’re ready to take these journeys with me. I can’t describe how much this blog has meant to me. The experiences I’ve had and the people that I’ve met…it’s been an incredible six and a half years and I can’t wait for six more and six after that!
