Blogger Spotlight: Amber J from GrownUp FanGirl

One of the best parts about running this blog is having the ability to meet some really cool people, and some of the coolest people that I have met have led me to really cool blogs. I’ve said it before, no one’s blog is 100% original but everyone’s voices are different so there are blogs that I love to read because I love the writer, and I love the passion that they show for what they are writing. They are fun and interesting to read and they inspire me to get better and better in my blog.

So I decided to do a feature (inspired by Megan at the Nerdy Girlie’s Geek Girls Gab), where I profile the bloggers that I love. Not only do I get to find out more about them, but I also get to share them with you guys! Most of the bloggers that I follow are like me, nerd girls, fan girls and they enjoy the same things as me, and you! Every blogger that I profile is one that is super important to me and I urge you to check them out!

If you are interested in being featured on the Blogger Spotlight, feel free to contact me, please! I would love to hear from you, to feature you on the blog and to help spread the word about it!

Sara: Tell me a Little Bit About Yourself:

Amber J: I’m 27, a mom of a crazy monster named Lola Kate, and two boxer babies (Zuma and Zoey – my first kids lol)  Married 3 years (yep even fangirls get married), I have lots of fictional boyfriends, my husband’s not a jealous man, thankfully. I’m a huge LSU football fan, music and book junkie, totally obsessed fangirl. My day job is a stay at home mom and I also distress and rehab furniture on the side along with offering review and beta read services (among others) to authors.

Sara: Tell me about your blog:

Amber J: GrownUp FanGirl is run by myself and Kameron (who isn’t a girl at all – but is a self proclaimed fangirl – yes. Fanboys DO exist), we are geared towards the older crowd (as in 18 and up) who still enjoy the young adult or new adult reads. (But we welcome anyone!) we offer book reviews, character teaser edits and beta reading services for authors, and we are working on a database where you can find out how to get all of your favorite authors books to your house – signed by the author! We host giveaways, and participate in blog tours, cover reveals, and everything book-blog related!

Sara: What inspired you to start your blog?

Amber J: Originally my blog was a place for people to come find reviews on handmade goods, but like any grownupfangirl I got bored with it and really just wanted to talk about all my fave things – which are books and fictional boys. What’s better than having a “job” where you read? I wanted to put my journalism and marketing education to use – so, I made the switch. I couldn’t be happier! The book blog community is the nicest around!

Sara: What is your favorite nerd memory?

Amber J: Oh so many. The one that’s probably my all time fave is from when I was a freshman in high school – I stole a brick from where Lance Bass was building his house near me …. Lol and that same year my friends and I dressed up as NSYNC and went trick or treating at Lance’s house. He wasn’t there – but his parents took pics! I’m in the Bass family album! Haha!

(I hope Amber was able to check out NSYNC on the VMAs last night!)

Sara: What are you most looking forward to, as far as new books/movies/etc?

Amber J: City of Heavenly Fire, and all things Cassandra Clare (including the movies. Yeeee!), the Vampire Academy: Bloodsisters movie, the next two books in the Bloodlines series by Richelle Mead (The Fiery Heart, and Silver Shadows, respectively), Allegiant and all 4 short stories about Four by Veronica Roth, the release of Hopeless by Keri Neal (follow up to Flightless. I’ve been a huge part of developing Hopeless so I’m excited to see it come to life), and the second Fires of Providence book – Crisis by Dawn Jayne (another book I’ve been with since the beginning and have helped market) … Sigh. Lol all the books – to – movies coming out! And the soundtracks!

Sara: As my blog is mostly about books and reading, what are some of your favorite books or authors to read?

Amber J: Haha! See above! Richelle Mead, Cassandra Clare, Veronica Roth (I will devour anything these ladies write) I love indie and unknown writers too! Some of my faves: Dawn Jayne, Keri Neal, JC Emery, Kristi Cook (she’s from my old college stomping grounds – if you love vampire academy/Harry potter – you’ll love her series: Winterhaven) and if you like UK reads – Teodora Kostova (new adult)

Sara: What are some of your favorite blogs to follow?

Amber J: WhatANerdGirlSays (obviously), Richelle Mead’s “Even Redheads Get the Blues“, Cassie Clare’s tumblr and Veronica Roth’s tumblr and Jamie Bower’s tumblr and Shailene Woodley’s tumblr.

Sara: Who is your fictional crush (what, we’re nerd girls, we all have one!)

Amber J: Oh. Sigh. Swoon. Wait.. Sorry. Jace Wayland-Lightwood-Morganstern-Herondale. Simon Lewis, Tobias Eaton, Patch Cipriano, Cam and Daniel (Fallen series), Beppe and Max from Teodora Kostova’s Heartbeat series, Dimitri Belikov (Vampire Academy), Adrian Ivashkov (Vampire Academy/Bloodlines), Klause Michaelson/Damon Salvatore (Vampire Diaries), Pen (Flightless series), Dominick (The Uprising/Crisis – Fires of Providence series) yeah — I’m a busy lady.
