The 12th Doctor Is Announced!

So, prescription after much drama with my computer today and trying to find a live stream of the BBC announcement of the newest Doctor, information pills I realized that my uncle wasn’t home and he has Dish cable in his room and that means that he has BBC in his room. So I literally sprinted to his room to put it on.

Just announced, salve and amid mostly positive reactions, the 12th Doctor made his first debut.

The 12th Doctor is….Peter Capaldi!

Capadli-12

For those of you who may recognized him, he played Caecilius on the “Fires of Pompeii” episode of Doctor Who, season four. He also played John Frobisher, on the Doctor Who spin off show, Torchwood, in the episode Children of Earth.

He is a celebrated actor, and has been in many more productions, both TV, film and stage. He has won an Academy Award for short film, and has won British TV Comedy Actor twice, in 2010 and 2012, at the British Comedy Awards.

I am actually pretty happy with the casting. I kind do wish they would have gone with someone who was maybe black, or ginger, or with a different look but other than that, I think Peter is going to do a fantastic job. He’s no stranger to this world, having worked on DW and Torchwood and he’s done a great job on other things as well, and has an impressive track record. I also like that maybe because he’ll be a little older, we’ll get a more serious timeline for The Doctor in Series 8, which seems to make sense, as the Doctor is getting older and older. I also hope that his age will discourage anymore romances between him and companions because, honestly, that really gets old to me. I want to see more Doctor Who action and adventure and less romance so I’m hoping we’ll really get to see that with Peter.

Matt Smith ends his run as The Doctor in this year’s Christmas Special, where he will presumably regenerate into Peter Capaldi’s 12th Doctor.

What do you all think of the new casting? Share in the comments below! For now, check out some of these fan reactions!

WhatANerdGirlSays Comic Con Wrap Up!

This past weekend was the San Diego Comic Con extravaganza in San Diego, recipe California. Comic Con has been going on for over forty years. I have gone before, cialis 40mg of course, and this year, I was unable to attend. I was really bummed at this for a very long time, but I was a bridesmaid in my best friend’s wedding, and honestly, it was an amazing time. I caught the bouquet and it was amazing, and I’m incredibly happy for her.

1011472_405412292912972_2128884030_n

But I know so many of you guys were unable to attend as well! So I wanted to gather as much news as I possibly could to share with you guys, who couldn’t go or may have been too busy to keep up, or just couldn’t keep up with the crazy amount of news that was coming our way this weekend.

Just a note: all articles linked will be from Hypable, which is one of my favorite sites to follow, and kept me SO updated during Comic Con.

So here we go:

Catching Fire Full Length Trailer is Released

We finally got our first full length trailer for the next installment of the Hunger Games movie! This movie will be hitting theaters in November. Cast members like Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Lenny Kravitz, Jena Malone and more were available during the panel and also for signings as well. They talked about different scenes they filmed and the various development of their characters.

Supernatural and Supernatural Spin-Off Series in the Works

url

I don’t know much about this show to be completely honest, because I’ve only watched the first couple seasons. From what I can tell, they talk a lot about the return of some characters, the idea of fallen angels, and the relationship between Dean and Sam. If you click the links above, you can find out way more information than I am able to share!

Details are in the bare minimum for the newly announced spin off show but apparently a new character will be introduced toward the end of the season that premieres on October 15th and the spin-off series will be based on this character.

The Marvel Panel Blows Everyone Away!

loki-comic-con-surprise-appearance

So Tom Hiddleston LITERALLY comes out, in FULL Loki costume, and milks it up, acting in his character for the entire couple minutes that he is up on stage. This was literally the only appearance he made so what an amazing rare treat that was. Of course, after, new footage of the Thor sequel was shown, the movie slated for a November release.

There was also cast appearances made for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and a full trailer shown. Hopefully we get the trailer VERY soon, because this is a movie I am definitely looking forward to.

The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy also made a SURPRISE appearance, where Karen Gillan of Doctor Who fame debuted her new hairstyle, and there was also a trailer.

Joss Whedon also came out and revealed the title of The Avengers sequel: The Avengers: Age of Ultron. He came out, showed an extremely short trailer that basically showed the Avengers reflected in the helmet of the villain, Ultron, and the title, and that was it. The film is set to release in May of 2015.

Surprise! Cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past Make an Appearance!

url

This is so exciting. I absolutely LOVED the first movie (its the only X-Men movie I own) and I haven’t heard much of what is going on for the second movie. A huge number of cast members made a surprise appearance at Comic Con, as well as director Bryan Singer. Appearances included: Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, Peter Dinklage, Sean Ashmore, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, and Ellen Page.

Peter Dinklage, of Game of Thrones fame, has confirmed that he will be paying Bolivar Trask in the movie.

You can watch the entire surprise panel, which I believe, includes the full length trailer. It is low res but its better than nothing!

Doctor Who and Matt Smith’s Last Appearance

url-1

So Matt Smith basically is emotional feels the entire Comic Con weekend as he says good bye to everyone, as he just announced recently that he is leaving the show. The main focus of Doctor Who at Comic Con was the seriously anticipated 50th Anniversary special, which will be featuring Matt as the 11th Doctor and Jenna Louise Coleman as the current companion, but also David Tennant as the 10th Doctor and Billie Piper returning as former companion, Rose Tyler. Steven Moffat was on board to tease like crazy, telling us that he’s been lying his ass off for months about the special and that we could all be presuming wrong. They showed a trailer for the special, which hasn’t been released to the public yet, that includes banter between the two doctors, comparisons between their sonic screwdrivers, Daleks and more.

The Vampire Diaries: Season 5

TVDComicCon

Nothing overly new was announced at this, but they talked about the stuff that happened in season four, and talked a little bit about season four, what they liked about what happened, how they are going to explain some of the stuff, how other things are going to work out. I know this is super vague but I glanced through it quickly because I haven’t finished season 4 yet! Paul Wesley says he’s enjoying being a little evil, they have a plan for Jeremy’s story and more.

The Originals: A Vampire Diaries Spin Off

url

I don’t want to say too much because this article has a TON of spoilers if you haven’t finished watching the previous season of The Vampire Diaries but they obviously talked a lot about how this show came about and what to expect from it. The show was really built from the love that Daniel, Joseph and Claire have garnered in their characters on TVD. There is going to be a lot going in this spin off show, including episodes of flashbacks in previous TVD episodes, but told from different points of views. Read more above for full details!

Once Upon a Time-Season 3

url

Several videos were shown during the Once Upon a Time panel, including a preview for Season 3 and a parody of Good Morning, America but instead, Good Morning, Storybrooke. The teaser trailer shows an interaction between Leroy (Grumpy) and what is presumed to be Ariel (SO exciting). I am SO excited about this show, especially with so many of the characters traveling to Neverland, and a spinoff show premiering as well. You can watch all the different videos at the link above!

Ginnifer Goodwin says that Snow is focusing on herself this season, finding a balance to the good and bad in her. Lana Parilla says Regina makes her favorite kill this season. A love triangle between Emma, Hook and Neil is HEAVILY hinted and we will see Peter, the Darlings, Neverland and Tinker Bell. They also discuss including a LGBT relationship, but doing it in a very real and genuine way!

Good news as well: there won’t be so much mish-mash episodes like last season. There will be 11 episodes, a midseason break and then 11 episodes. Thank goodness.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland

Once-Upon-a-Time-in-Wonderland-Comic-Con

We learn more about the Once Upon a Time spin off show. We focus more on Alice, but in the adult version of the character that we have grown to know in the adaptations that have already been made. The show is more of a cousin to Once Upon a Time, and less of a spinoff show. They say for now, there won’t be crossovers, but they haven’t completely ruled it out. An announcement that was made was Naveen Andrews, of Lost fame, is going to play Jafar.

Divergent: Movie News and Book News!

"Divergent" Panel - Comic-Con International 2013

The cast and author, Veronica Roth, gathered to talk about the movie and the last book coming out in November. The film has just finished up, and will be releasing in March of 2014. They talked about favorite moments during filming and who has been signed on for part two, Insurgent, though they couldn’t say too much, due to spoilers. Veronica Roth also confirmed that Allegiant, the last book, will be told in due point of views, Tris and Four. They also showed the very first footage of the film to be shown, though this has NOT been posted online.

Straight from Hypable, a description of the footage shown: The extended clip began with Tris’ jump onto and from the train as a new Dauntless with her friend Christina, and then continuing to volunteer and jump off the roof into Dauntless headquarters. The clip also introduced Four helping Tris off of the net, and Tris’s selection of her new identity. The clip continued into a sizzle reel of Dauntless training, complete with impressive flips, gunfighting, and crowdsurfing. Other snippets included a shot of Tris taking the Faction test and receiving her tattoos, and a shot of Kate Winslet as Erudite leader, Jeanine. The reel ended with Four hurling his knives at Tris, the final knife leaving her with blood on her ear.

Superman and Batman Movie Crossover!

superman-batman-new-logo

It was announced by director, Zack Snyder, this weekend that a Batman and Superman crossover movie, entitled World’s Finest, was in the making. It is being said as a sequel to the recently released Man of Steel, and Henry Cavill will be back as Superman. No word on who would play Batman, but Christian Bale has already he will not play the Caped Crusader again. Not much else is known, though this is the official logo, but they are aiming for a 2015 release.

Joss Whedon and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents-of-Shield-ABC-premiere-date1

One of the most highly anticipated shows, Agents of SHIELD made a surprise premiere of the pilot episode of the show, which will premiere on September 24th. Joss Whedon and the other guests were a bit reluctant to reveal details but Hypable did have a chance to sit down with them, and you can read all about it, if you click the link above.

The Amazing Spiderman 2

url

The directors, and a few members of the cast including Andrew Garfield and Jamie Foxx, hit Comic Con and discussed some of the questions that have been lingering in fan’s minds about the sequel. Jamie discusses what he wanted to accomplish with his character, Electro, and they talked about the need for both Gwen, played by Emma Stone, and Mary Jane Watson, played by Shailene Woodley. Woodley says she won’t return for part 3, but the producers say “time will tell.” Andrew Garfield also talked about Peter’s relationship with Gwen, and the possibility of Spiderman being gay, and exploring his sexuality. Read more above, for some really amazing insights to the new movie. The movie comes out May 2nd, 2014.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Panel

url

Not much was revealed as far as the movie goes, with the release date only weeks away, but the cast discusses filming and playing their different characters and things like that. Jamie talked about the vulnerability of Jace and how Clary brings that out in him. Kevin mentions how they all sort embody their characters and Godfrey Gao confirmed this weekend that the Magnus and Alec kiss that occurs during the time of City of Bones, but was written as an outside story, will be in the film. Very exciting. Check out the entire panel.

Game of Thrones

url-2

The cast and author George R.R. Martin gathered to talk about the previous season, the nominations that were handed out to them for the Emmys and what we can expect in the future. They mostly talked about all the drama and tragedy that occurs at the end of the previous season, entitled the Red Wedding,w here basically all the characters die. Martin says killing all these characters really gives actors more opportunities to explore their characters more, and break boundaries. Emilia was surprised to find out she had garnered a nomination and the actor who played her on-screen husband came up on stage to congratulate her. They talked a little about Sam and Jon, and how their characters are, and their motivations. George also talked about the two remaining books in the series and the possibility of a prequel. If he makes it that far ;)

The Legend of Korra Season Two

korra-season-2-feature

Now, I just saw Michael DiMartino a few weeks ago, and he was so tight lipped about The Legend of Korra, season two, but now I realized they were waiting to reveal all of this at Comic Con. They showed the entire first episode of season two, and announced that the show would return in September and will be called “Book 2: Spirits”.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Cover Reveal!

harry-potter-half-blood-prince-new-cover

I wrote a couple weeks ago about the anniversary covers of Harry Potter, with new artwork done by Kazu Kabuishi. I showed you all the covers that had already been revealed and now we finally have book six! The books are being released on August 27th, in a paperback box set. The last cover, for Deathly Hallows, will be shown at a party in New York City, celebrating Harry Potter’s birthday (and Jo’s!) on July 31st. It is open to the public, so if you are a Potterhead, and in the area, head on over!

Ender’s Game

"Enders Game" And "Divergent" Panels - Comic-Con International 2013

New footage of Ender’s Game, a Comic Con exclusive, was shown at the convention, with appearances by the director, producer, Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, and Asa Butterfield. The trailer is mostly about Ender, of course, and his training, but apparently there are glimpses of other characters as well. The audience asked a lot of questions about the film, especially of Orson Scott Card, but those were deflected easily. There were also a lot of questions aimed at Harrison Ford about Star Wars and Indiana Jones but those were deflected as well, but that makes a lot of sense. The guy is SO ready to move on.

Sherlock Season Three!

url

Neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor Martin Freeman were able to attend Comic Con but they had recorded a video message for the fans in attendance. However, Steven Moffat and the other guests, like Mark Gatiss who plays Mycroft Holmes, made up for it. Moffat says that Sherlock’s “death” has already been hinted at in season two and that the John and Sherlock reunion was his favorite part to make. However John is NOT going to be happy with Sherlock, of course, but his anger will be resolved by the end of episode one; they don’t want to drag it out. Moriarty is actually dead, and we will see more of Mycroft and Sherlock’s relationship as well as the relationship (not romantic) between Molly and Sherlock. The stars have also signed on for season 4, but of course, no word on that.

Firefly Video Game!

url-1

Oh yes, you heard that right, Browncoats. There is officially going to be a Firefly video game, releasing in the Summer of 2014. It is called Firefly Online and will be available on Android and iOS devices. There is not much more information besides that, but if you click the link, you can watch the trailer and you can find out how to register on the website for official updates!

*     *     *

There was SO much more on Comic Con, and I’m sure I only covered a drop in the bucket of what I’m sure was an amazing weekend. I hope that this was still helpful for everyone who was unable to make it to the convention or able to keep up with the constant updates.

I just wanted to shout out to my friend Becky for trying to get me Divergent and Hunger Games swag, what a rock star you are for even trying! I want to do a HUGE shout out to my girl, Erin, from That One Geek Girl, for thinking of me this weekend and doing the most amazing thing in the world by getting me a personalized autograph by the flippin gorgeous Godfrey Gao himself. Yes, the sexy man playing Magnus Bane in City of Bones. You are amazing, Erin, and I love you! You are such an amazing friend.

Matt Smith-Leaving Doctor Who

20130601-153640.jpg

It’s happening, viagra 60mg Whovians!

It was just announced today that Matt Smith will be ending his tenure as the 11th Doctor in the hit BBC sci-fi show, Doctor Who. His last appearance will be made this December, in the 2013 Christmas special.

Jenna-Louise Coleman was already confirmed to be the companion, Clara Oswald, in Series 8.

What do you guys think of this? Who do you think could play a 12th Doctor?

I am both surprised and unsurprised. I though Matt would be in for one more series but it seems like he’s out early. It makes sense though. He’s been the Doctor for quite a long time and is probably looking to add other roles to his resume.

I’m really nervous about a new Doctor but I am excited as well. I’ve loved so many of the different incarnations of the Doctor so it’ll be exciting to see another one!

Let me know what you guys think in the comments!

My First Trip To Gallifrey One

Gallifrey one - 2012-1

I know. This is late. This is insanely, story abnormally, ridiculously, inexcusably late. Normally I am so good with writing blog posts like these when they still have…you know, validity.

But man, February is SUCH a busy month. Right after Gallifrey One, I had an exam, my birthday party, a LADA event and then my actual birthday. I am such a busy girl.

March is even better as well. Lauren Oliver’s new book, Requiem, is coming out tomorrow and I’m attending a Q and A/autograph event on Sunday. And on and on…

So I apologize. Immensely. For delaying this as much as I did.

 Picture 6

This is the first year that I attended the good ‘ol Gallifrey One, which makes sense. I started watching Doctor Who on Netflix right around the time of Gallifrey last year, in 2012, so obviously I hadn’t quite gotten addicted yet. Of course, I finished the series in a few weeks and was immediately donning a fez, brandishing a sonic screwdriver and running around saying “Allonsy!” and “Geronimo!”

So when my friends told me about Gallifrey One, and urged me to join them, I couldn’t say no. I love cons and I’ve been so disappointed in San Diego Comic Con and the INSANE badge prices and RIDICULOUS crowds so I was so down.

I had SO MUCH FUN! Seriously, it was a weekend of epicness. I came home with absolutely no voice, which you know means I had a good time, because that almost never happens. I have a nice strong voice. But it was an epic weekend.

There are so many good, good, GREAT things about this convention. Here is a small compacted list, not in special order, but all good reasons.

First off, the fact that the convention itself is in a hotel. This is an amazing thing. I advocate this 1000 times. Its so insanely convenient. The hotel itself has decent prices, at least from what I know of what I paid with my friends, and its just so insanely convenient. All you have to do is take an elevator up or down. Just woke up at 9:30 and the first panel is in 30 minutes? No biggie! Throw some clothes on, slap on some make-up and take the elevator down and you’ve made it with time to spare. Hungry? Go upstairs and grab some food that you’ve brought along with you. Thirsty? Ditto. Sleepy? Go upstairs and take a nap. Brilliance. It also means that everyone can stay up super late (430 am, anyone?) and there’s no worries about drunk driving or drunk nerds in public. Its also a nice safety issue. I loved it.

Oh and the ribbons? The ribbons thing is the first thing I’ve ever seen like this at a convention. Basically you can order your own unique ribbon; it could advertise your club, maybe have your favorite quote, whatever. Ours personally said “Expelliarmus! Good ol J.K.!” of course, referring to the Harry Potter reference in the Martha Jones episode, “The Shakespeare Code” in series 3, because all of us are Harry Potter fans. You can collect them, attach them to your badge, as seen above on mine and laugh at all the different ones you get. Some people get intense about it too so that they make skirts or dresses out of the ribbons from the previous year! Crazy! But its fun though, and its fun to see what different quotes are on there, or what silly things people have come up with.

The panels are great, and I never really saw a line for any of them. If you wanted to see a panel, you saw a panel and the guests were all super awesome. Some people may say that there aren’t enough things to make panels from one TV show, but they would be very wrong. I went to panels that were director’s commentaries on different episodes (Dinosaurs on a Spaceship and The Power of Three). I went to panels for Sylvestor McCoy (the 7th Doctor), Freema Agyeman (Martha Jones), and Mark Sheppard (who has pretty much had a role on every nerd show ever). I even went to a Game of Thrones panel. And they were all personable and awesome. Some panels I’ve gone to in the past at cons have literally made me want to go to sleep but all of the actors, writers, directors, etc. are all so funny.

IMG_3670

The people. One, its just great to be around a bunch of nerds. Its always where I feel the most comfortable, when I am surrounded by people like me. And everyone is so friendly and ready to party. How many places can you go, where you can see a Dalek and a few different Doctors, Madame da Pompadour and some Cybermen hanging out, sharing some drinks and doing karoake (which mostly consists of Les Mis songs). These are all people just like you, obsessed with a TV show because they know its so much more than a TV show. I met a lot of really cool people, mostly at early hours of the morning, and it was a great, great time. There was also the awesomeness of timelessness. When you go to Comic Con, it seems more and more nowadays to be an overcrowded blob of twenty-somethings, where Doctor Who had people of all ages. Think about it, Doctor Who has been on since the 1960s, and it continues to dazzle audiences of all ages.

And yeah, I got up and did some karoake. Didn’t even know I had that in me!

The GUESTS. Freema Agyeman. Sylvestor McCoy. Mark Sheppard. Finn Jones. Nicholas Briggs. Tony Lee. Richard Dimmick. Anjli Mohindra. Neve McIntosh. Ian McNeice. So so many.

They all had great panels and they obviously care about the fans. They really are there for us. I mean, Mark Sheppard ran his own panel, basically, and was hilarious. Sylvestor McCoy didn’t sit up on stage while he took questions, he got up and walked around, and he’s no young sprout anymore. And he was hilarious as well. They all were amazing guests. And the best part of it is that none of them had this special air to them. You didn’t seem them walking around with bodyguards, heads down until they were on stage. They were in the crowds. I shared an elevator with Nicholas Briggs (who voices the Daleks). Ian McNeice was hanging around the lobby the entire time. Tony Lee and Richard Dimmick were hanging out, singing karoake with everyone. I think I ran into Finn Jones (who you may know as Ser Loras from The Game of Thrones) at least four times.

And everything was so decently priced. I mean, food prices sucked but that’s to be expected. Food prices always suck. But the prices for pictures and autographs, prices for different artworks and such in the auction room, and prices for Doctor merch in the vendor room were all decent. I didn’t bring a lot of spending money because, well, I’m a full time college student working ten hours a week and I’m broke but I managed to get a 10th Doctor screwdriver, 11th Doctor screwdriver, a Doctor Who shirt for Her Universe (which you should check out, nerd shirts made for GIRLS! Finally!), Doctor Who buttons, River Song’s journal and a badass dragon artwork from the art auction. I hate going to cons where I’m like “Okay, you have 100 dollars to spend…and you’re probably going to spend it all on one thing…”

All in all, the convention was amazing. It was a place where you could just be a fan, you know? Sometimes you just want to sit back and enjoy being a fan. That’s why you go to baseball games, its why you go to the movies…and its why you go to conventions. And its always that much better when the convention is a good as Gallifrey One was. Tickets go on sale for next year, this Friday the 8th, and I’m already really excited about next year. They are 80 dollars for the whole weekend, which may seem hefty but they’re a WHOLE lot cheaper than Comic Con and this convention is way more personable and awesome than Comic Con. (Not that I’d turn down free tickets to Comic Con…) This con will be hitting its 25th year, just months after the Doctor Who 50th anniversary so there will be so much in store.

I can’t wait.

Doctor Who returns for the rest of series 7 on March 30th.

The Tuesday Top Ten: Doctor Who Episodes

In honor of the fact that I just attended my very first Gallifrey One, seek the Los Angeles Doctor Who convention, recipe this past weekend, I decided to make a Doctor Who themed Tuesday Ten this week.

I swear, a blog post telling you alllll about my seriously awesome times at the con will be coming very soon. I’m hoping tomorrow but let’s not get too optimistic, shall we? I do have some exams this week.

Moving on though, because of Gallifrey One, I’m on a Doctor Who high right now.

Can I just say that it was really hard to narrow this down? And now I really want to go back and start watching some of the old school Doctor Who episodes, especially that of the 7th Doctor, because Sylvester McCoy was the funniest little British man alive. Hilarious.

Anyway, here are my top ten favorite Doctor Who episodes. Enjoy!

10. Vincent and the Doctor by Richard Curtis

doctor-who-vincent-and-the-doctor_article_story_main

If you didn’t shed a tear while watching this episode, you are a heartless person. I ADORE this episode. One, I really like the period episodes. I like the ones where the Doctor goes back and time and meets someone famous like Charles Dickens or Shakespeare or Winston Churchill or Van Gogh. I love the history episodes. They are so much fun. Van Gogh is one of my favorite artists, though don’t hate me for being so cliche. (Renoir is my favorite, if you care haha). I think it was really cool to see Van Gogh as a person, a real person, and a person fighting a monster with the Doctor. You see some of his most celebrated paintings, almost as a casual thing, instead of behind some glass at a museum. Even though its fiction, it makes these people feel so real. And everyone had to have shed a tear when the Doctor and Amy show Vincent how much he means to the world nowadays and he just sobs. Its beautiful. Damn you, Richard Curtis. It’s not even fair…

9. Fires of Pompeii by James Moran and Russell T. Davies

fires-of-pompeii

This is one of the earliest episodes of Donna Noble and its one of my favorites because it convinces you of her worth as a companion long before she’s convinced of it herself. I think Donna spends most of her series thinking how unimportant she is, how insignificant she is, but I never bought into that. I felt she was more important than she knew and it came from this episode. The Doctor is ready to book it out of Pompeii, letting the events unfold as they were meant to, and Donna is so determined to save everyone. She is so determined to make a difference, even if only a little bit. She’s strong in her own determination and she convinces the Doctor to save at least one familiy, and there aren’t a lot of people who can change the Doctor’s mind. Donna is my favorite companion and this episode really brings in the love for her.

8. The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances by Steven Moffat

empty child

Okay this episode is one of my favorites because it is so damn creepy. I don’t like creepy little kids. I could do without them. Poltergeist is one of those movies that freaked the hell out of me because of that stupid creepy little girl. Anyway, I liked this episode because it kind of gave me the heeby jeebies and they kept sort of creeping up on me as more and more people grew these gas masks out of their faces. Let’s also add to this fact that its the first episode that we get to see the super charming, super awesome and extremely sexy Captain Jack Harkness. He is also one of my favorite Who characters and he comes swooping into the episode, dancing with Rose on top of an aerial in the sky next to Ben Ben. And I liked the resolution of this episode, that the little boy just wanted his mummy, that he was tearing apart the world just to find his mummy. So adorable…even after being fantasically creepy.

7. Doomsday by Russell T. Davies

doomsday

Another absolutely heartbreaking moment in the Doctor Who world. Damn you, Russell T. Davies, damn you. We’ve spent the entire second series of the newer Doctor Who, rooting the Doctor and Rose on, just wanting them to be together, forever, traveling in the Tardis and just when you think its possible, that despite all the odds, they’re going to be together forever, they aren’t. They are ripped away from each other, sent to two completely different dimensions, two different worlds and they will never see each other again…as far as anyone knows. They get one last moment, on a bay in Norway, where they get to say their final goodbyes, which are just tear-inducing. Rose worships the Doctor, loves him, her entire existence had been wrapped around him, and now she has to say goodbye forever. And we finally get to see her tell him that she loves him and just seconds before you just KNOW he’s going to say it back…he fades and thats it. I was crying like crazy watching this episode…and then of course, a few minutes later, Donna Noble randomly appears in the Tardis and reminds us that the adventure is never really over.

6. Rose by Russell T. Davies

doctor_who_screencap_1

I’m going to be completely honest right now: this is not one of the best Doctor Who episodes of all time. In fact, sometimes, when I go back and watch this, I find myself giggling a bit. Its just so bizarre and hilarious, this living plastic idea. The mobile mannequins just make me laugh; its so silly. But its one of my personal favorite episodes because its the first ever episode that we get to see of the new series and its the first ever episode I have seen of Doctor Who. Whether it is one of the best or not, it was good enough to keep me watching. It was enough that I continued to watch and finished six seasons in a matter of weeks. Its the episode that introduced me to a fandom that I never, ever want to leave. Its the episode where I first fell in love with the Doctor, where I first fell in love with Rose, and where I saw the Tardis for the first time. It was the first time and you know what they say…”you never forget your first Doctor”. Christopher Eccleston was my first Doctor and I will never ever forget :D

5. The Girl in the Fireplace by Steven Moffat

Again with the period pieces. I love the historical pieces and its probably because I am a history nerd. I think this an episode where we really get to see the human aspect of the Doctor. He watches the Madame de Pompadour grow up, her entire life, while it only takes him hours. She holds a very special place in his heart so fast, he wants to take her way in the Tardis, show her the universe and she dies before he can come back and do that. You can see the heartbreak on his face and its very human of him. He does feel, of course, but I think he forces himself to continue to move on, no matter what happens: when he regenerates, when he loses a companion. He is sad but he moves on. I think you can see his humanity in his quick attachment to Madame de Pompadour and his loss of her in this one episode. Plus its just a fun episode, the quick time travel through the portals, the history in the episode, the Doctor bursting through the portal on a horse. I love this episode.

4. The Eleventh Hour by Steven Moffat

The-Eleventh-Hour-doctor-who-for-whovians-33441803-944-531

This is one of my favorite episodes because there was so much lying on this episode. There isn’t just a new companion in this episode; there is a new Doctor, and TWO new companions. Its been awhile since David Tennant and Catherine Tate were in the Tardis, having adventures, as Journey’s End premiered in July of 2008 and Matt Smith’s first episode as the 11th Doctor hit the television in April of 2010. Plus David Tennant was such an amazing Doctor. It was huge shoes to fill..and for me, I moved on right away. I was on a David Tennant high. But this episode really was great, and completely sold me on Matt Smith as the Doctor, Karen Gillan as Amy Pond and Arthur Darvill as Rory Williams. It was a bit of new, showing the change since David Tennant and Russell T. Davies left, but it also remained that classic Who awesomeness, especially with the montage of all 11 Doctors. And they’re such an attractive trio :P

3. The Stolen Earth/Journey’s End by Russell T. Davies

drwho_journeysend

The biggest part of why this is one of my favorite episodes is because of everyone that comes together in this episode: The Doctor, Rose Tyler, Martha Jones, Captain Jack Harkness, Donna Noble, Jackie Tyler, Mickey Smith, Sarah Jane Smith…they’re all there and its beautiful. They all work together to save the day, to save the Earth and to bring it home. They all work together to defeat the Daleks. Its all of the favorite people in one place. But its also Rose reuniting with the Doctor and getting her happily ever after, even though its not quite the way anyone expected. Its the awesome moment where you see how many people love the Doctor, how many of them band together to help save the world, to help him. But its also a very sad moment when Donna becomes the most important woman in the universe, saves the day when no one else can and then she has to forget everything. She can’t remember all the amazing adventures she’s had and the amazing thing she’s done. And its one of the last episodes that David Tennant has as the Doctor and it holds a very special place in my heart.

2. The Pandorica Opens/The Big Bang by Steven Moffat

images

I think I have a love affair with Steven Moffat, because his episodes keep appearing…and I love this double episode because of everything that sort of happens in this. I love that all these episodes of this series sort of culminate into one. Some of the seasons just have these standalone episodes and end in a different story and some don’t, like in series two with Bad Wolf or Donna with her importance, her coincidences and all that. I like that the end of series 5 ends with all the events of the season coming together in one important story. Things are happening because of this points of time all over time, and I just love how it all comes together. I love that this is the moment when we see the Doctor with his fez, a very iconic moment in the Who moments, I love that we finally see Amy and Rory married. And it holds one of my favorite moments ever, when Amy is at her wedding and she is remembering the Doctor, and by remembering the Doctor, she brings him back…and as the Tardis is appearing, she says the old wedding saying “something old, something new, something borrowed, something blue” and its an absolutely perfect way to describe the Tardis.

1. Blink by Steven Moffat

tumblr_lu7x5ex7YM1qmgukso1_500

Damn you, Steven Moffat, again, but this time not for the heartbreak but for creating one of the scariest monsters of all time. So simple, this angel statues, but still one of the scariest things I’ve ever seen in a movie or a tv show. I  think Carey Mulligan is absolutely adorable as Sally Sparrow in this episode; I almost wished she could’ve been a permanent companion in some aspect. I say they bring her back. Its a fun episode, even though the Doctor is only in the episode in the form of easter eggs on DVDs but the story is great and the Angels are super scary and they introduce a fan favorite villian that appears several more times. The Weeping Angels are my favorite bad guy of the series and so this makes this episode my favorite because Steven Moffat does a great, great job of introducing them so that every time that you see them again, you know to be afraid.

Top Ten Valentine’s Day Crushes

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

I have some things to say today, pharm on this day of love. One, order tell everyone you love that you love them. You should be doing this every day, not just on Valentine’s Day but you should do it today anyway. And two, if you’re single, honestly, hush up. Valentine’s Day isn’t just about relationship or romantic love. Its about friendship love and family love too. I always make sure to tell my friends that I love them to today and my family as well. My mom always makes me a little thing of cookies and candy and I always get a box of Sweethearts (the good ones, not the gross chalky ones) from my Dad, guaranteed.

I just hate when single people cry on this day. And maybe some people will get all uppity because I’m not single so I don’t know what I’m talking about. You’re talking to a girl who was dumped three times on Valentine’s Day; trust me, I can understand the Valentine’s Day hate. But you have to move on from that, and realize that there IS someone out there and you WILL find them, when the time is right. And, remember, just because maybe you’re not in a relationship, doesn’t mean you aren’t loved. Because you are; there’s always someone out there that loves you.

And besides, if you’re a nerd girl like me, you are bound to have some fictional crushes and whats better than a curling up with a book and falling in love with your favorite fictional character ALLLLLL over again :D

So I’m doing another top ten this week, forgoing the Book of the Week, in honor of Valentine’s Day.

Ever since I became a Mortal Instruments fan, I have to stop thinking of the evil guy, Valentine Morgenstern, every time I hear the word “Valentine”. Its so bad haha.

Moving on, my top ten Valentine’s Day crushes are:

Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice

images

This was one of the very few books I actually enjoyed in high school and probably because its a timeless story. Some people don’t get the love of this story and to them I say, DID YOU NOT READ THE SAME BOOK AS ME? I mean, sure, the story takes place in an era that barely exists anymore. I don’t need to make a debut and I don’t need to have my “season”. There aren’t appropriate matches for me and I don’t have to worry about not being rich enough for a man to marry me. But the messages that come across in this novel are still true: that we need to stop judging people right off the bat, that we need to let go of our pride and let go of our prejudices and see whats in front of us. Mr Darcy is one of  my biggest fictional crushes because of how you watch him fall in love with headstrong Elizabeth Bennett and how you watch him struggle with it…and when he finally comes to terms with it, and the lengths that he goes to make her happy, its just beautiful. Sigh. One of the most romantic books of all time.

9. Caroline Forbes from The Vampire Diaries

images-1

Candice Accola is absolutely gorgeous. Its funny; when it comes to guys, I tend to go light hair, light eyes…I like me some white boys I guess haha. But with girls, I like dark hair, dark eyes so I was surprised to find myself with a HUGE crush on Miss Caroline Forbes from Vampire Diaries. She’s soooo gorgeous and she plays a vampire, and instead of sparkling or being so beautifully tormented, she’s NORMAL and SEXY. Its awesome. When she’s turned, she still stays so wonderfully normal and she genuinely cares about all her friends and when she loves, she loves fully. She’s brave and smart and committed to her family and friends and sometimes you even forget that she’s a vampire. She took what was handed to her, even though she didn’t want it, and she lives with it. She’s so much better than the brooding and tortured vampires of most vampire novels and shows and so she’s a breath of fresh air ot me…and a super hot one at that.

8. Percy Jackson from Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus

tumblr_mctes9YUhA1r4l70eo1_500

Okay, I’m gonna make myself clear here: Percy is only hot at the end of the Olympians series and through the Heroes of Olympus series. Because he can’t be hot as an eleven year old because I would feel creepy as hell. And I know a lot of people were super disappointed in the first Percy Jackson movie. i do not think it was great but I don’t think it was THAT bad, either. And I think Logan Lerman makes a good Percy, a HOT one, even if he’s too old by the book standards. The picture above is awesome. And I want one of those shirts really badly. I think Percy becomes really brave and loyal as the books go along and if though its his fatal flaw, he’ll do anything for his friends, especially his girlfriend, Annabeth, and its so gosh darn cute, its hard to manage haha. That helps to guaranteed him a spot on this list.

7. Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind

Rhett1

Another one of the most romantic books of all time. Not this stupid Fifty Shades of Grey crap. Gone with the Wind…probably the MOST romantic book of all time. And of course Rhett Butler is the hero of the book. Charles Hamilton and Frank Kennedy are barely a blip on the radar and Ashley Wilkes…my god, Ashley Wilkes makes me alternately want to throw up and punch him in the face. Rhett Butler is a man’s man, he doesn’t give a damn what anyone thinks of him, not until he finds people to love enough to change. He loves Scarlett and he loves his daughter, Bonnie, enough to become a gentleman to take care of them. He loves Scarlett enough to put with her craziness, which not many men will do in this day and age, let alone during the Civil War/Reconstruction period. Plus he just exudes sexiness.

6. Han Alister from the Seven Realms series

Couldn’t find a picture for Han, nor a fan art that I liked enough to put up here on my blog. I adore Han Alister because of everything that he is and everything that he works so hard to be. He was a criminal for so long, the king of the criminals and he did some seriously terrible things. Then he gives up the crime life, and tries to get some honest work to feed and take care of his mother and little sister. And when they die and he learns of his wizarding heritage, he does everything he can to learn his skill and to please everyone: the tribes who feel like they own him, the wizards who want to control him, Raisa who he loves and can’t have, and on and on and on. He works so hard to do the right thing, and he works so hard to protect the people he cares about, especially Raisa. You have to admire his courage and his guts, his talents and his intelligence.

5. Isabelle Lightwood from the Mortal Instruments series

444c3d20dd2e44fb5c5667fdf098c14f

I have a thing for the Lightwoods. One of them makes the number one spot on this list (I’m sure you totally know who it is). I also completely adore Alec Lightwood but you know, he’s gay so that doesn’t really work out in my favor haha. But Isabelle Lightwood has to make the list because she’s sexy as hell and she’s a badass. They say that even in the modern times of Shadowhunter that women HAVE to be trained to fight and if they aren’t, they’ll be relegated to jobs that keep them away from the action. Isabelle is trained to be a good Shadowhunter and she is a GREAT one, almost as good as Jace and probably better than her brother, Alec. She’s brave and she protects her family above anything. Her family loyalty to her parents, to her brothers (all three of them), is so admirable. I wish I had the bravery of Isabelle. Then there’s the fact that she fights all these demons in stilettos and sexy outfits doesn’t hurt in the slightest. I’m also really hoping that in City of Heavenly Fire, the last TMI installment, that her and Clary become parabatai. it would be SERIOUSLY awesome.

4. Sirius Black from the Harry Potter series

iPhone, Blackberry, wallpaper, 480, 320, pixels, high, vertical

I have no idea what it is about Sirius Black but he is one of my favorite characters in the entire Harry Potter universe besides Luna Lovegood and Ron Weasley. I love Luna for her uniqueness and I love Ron for his loyalty and his humor. But Sirius, I don’t know, that’s the man I have a crush on. I think its because he’s the bad boy, you know? But in a good way. Like, I’m not sitting here with a crush on Draco Malfoy (although, whew, Tom Felton is HOT). He was the hot bad boy when he was at school at Hogwarts and he’s sort of the same kind of guy when he grows up. He still has that casual arrogance, that cockiness that he used to have that is so sexy but he’s also extremely brave and intelligent and he’s a good father figure for Harry. I know that everyone agrees with that because he was cruel to Kreacher and he could be selfish at times but he was HUMAN. I think we like to put our favorite characters on pedestals but some of my favorite characters are the ones with the biggest flaws. Sirius Black…sexy man.

3. The Doctor from the Doctor Who series

tumblr_lvaq06HHdX1r1tsa1

The Doctor is hot for one big reason: he can do something for women that no other man can do. He can take them anywhere in time and space, whenever, wherever. He can take them on the most amazing of adventures, he can take them to see the most amazing places. If the Doctor showed up on my doorstop, I’d be like, “Let me grab my books and let’s go!” Because, you know, I can’t live without my books! They keep the stories fresh and the characters fresh with new companions and new regenerations of the Doctor, each one of them uniquely awesome and uniquely sexy. I am also on a Doctor Who high because I’m going to Gallifrey One, the Who convention, this weekend and I am SO excited! The Doctor is awesome, smart, sarcastic, funny, god he’s even sexy when he gets angry. And he has a blue box that can go ANYWHERE. And he has a damn British accent! You just don’t get better than that.

Except the maybe the first two on this list…below…haha

2. Han Solo from Star Wars

Original Trilogy - Han Solo 06

I have said it over and over again that this was my first nerd crush. I watched Star Wars when I was really young and I really started getting into it when I was about seven years old. My little brother had broken his leg when he was two (long crazy story haha) and he pretty much couldn’t do anything and the only thing he ever wanted to do is watch Star Wars. So we watched a ton of Star Wars, the original masterpieces that were on VHS. And this is where I met Han Solo. Mark Hamill as Luke was okay but I was already into that rugged, sarcastic man. Do i sense a pattern here? Yes, yes, I do. I like the sarcastic, humorous, bad buy who is really good kind of guy and that fits Han Solo perfectly. He has that bad boyness and the humor but he’s also sweet and he also cares and loves his friends. But he’s not mushy at the same time. And yet I still totally melt into a puddle every time he looks into Princess Leia’s eyes and says “I know”. SIgh. And now there are rumors of a stand alone Han Solo movie? Love it, as long as Harrison Ford doesn’t return. The man was SEXY as Han Solo and Indiana Jones but he’s a bit old to reprise that role…

1. Jace Wayland Morgenstern Herondale Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments series

Picture 4

Surprise, surprise. This guy is going to be my number one for a very, very long time. You may notice that I picked a picture of Jace on the cover of the novel, City of Lost Souls. I love Jamie Campbell Bower and I think that he’ll do a great job as Jace. But because Jace Lightwood is my ultimate fictional crush, I have my own vision of him in my head and that’s exactly how I like him. Jamie will do a great job but he isn’t at all what I pictured. Moving on, Jace fits the pattern of sexy, sarcastic badass bad boys that make my list. I like the sarcastic ones and I like the ones that are fighters, but are mushy enough to be super romantic. Jace Lightwood is a badass Shadowhunter, the best one, in fact, and his fighting skills are unparalleled. But he’s also fiercely loyal to his adopted family, the Lightwoods (Maryse, Robert, Isabelle, Alec and Max) and he becomes so protective of Clary, and he loves her so much. And I can’t lie, he says some of the sweetest things. I can’t wait to read more of them when City of Heavenly Fire hits stands in 2014.

So there’s my list of Valentine’s Day crushes but my biggest Valentine’s Day crush is this guy right here:

IMG_1485

We just celebrated five years of being together on Monday and this will be our sixth Valentine’s Day together. Five years ago, Jon asked me to be his girlfriend on February 11th. He was my best friend and became so much more than that. He had told me he wanted to wait until Valentine’s Day so I could finally have a good V-Day (remember, dumped THREE times…) and that he couldn’t wait. so that’s why our anniversary is the 11th. We had our first Valentine’s Day three days later…where we spent all day together…sort of. Jon got really SUPER sick, like super high fever, upchucking kind of sick. And that’s why I spent our first Valentine’s Day taking care of him. But no matter who you throw my way, no matter how many times I have crushes on fictional characters, at the end of every single day, this is the only boy I need <3

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone :D I hope that it was good and that you remember, no matter what your relationship status, you are loved! You will always have people to love and if you’re reading this, there’s a damn good chance that I love you :) Spread the love. There should always be love in the world, family love, friendship love, romantic love.

And always remember, that these fictional characters we read, they’re awesome and lovable but they are just that: fictional. There are amazing people in this world to love, full of flaws and awesome. No one is perfect and no one is ever going to measure up to your favorite fictional man because he’s not real. They are never going to say the things that you read in the books but that’s okay. Because when you do find the right one, you’ll love them 100%, flaws and all.
