Book of the Week-The House of Hades

I was so excited to read this book, viagra sale and have been waiting so long for it to come out that I decided, what a wonderful idea to start reading it as soon as it downloaded to my Kindle and stay up ALL night reading it. At 3 am, I finally finished reading it, my eyes were bloodshot, and I was exhausted, both physically and emotionally.

But I will tell you this: it was definitely worth, it.

But don’t worry, I realize that its very very early in the release of this book to be posting this review, so its COMPLETELY spoiler free. I mean, this took me a painstakingly long time in order to make sure that I didn’t reveal anything to anyone.

If you DO want to talk about the book, send me a message, post on the forum, or hit me up on Facebook.

For now, enjoy this review!

Age Recommendation:

12+; I know that a lot of kids will read this book, but I will warn you, this book is a LOT darker than any of the previous books. Be aware of this with your children.

Plot Summary:

From GoodReads:

At the conclusion of The Mark of Athena, Annabeth and Percy tumble into a pit leading straight to the Underworld. The other five demigods have to put aside their grief and follow Percy’s instructions to find the mortal side of the Doors of Death. If they can fight their way through the Gaea’s forces, and Percy and Annabeth can survive the House of Hades, then the Seven will be able to seal the Doors both sides and prevent the giants from raising Gaea. But, Leo wonders, if the Doors are sealed, how will Percy and Annabeth be able to escape?

They have no choice. If the demigods don’t succeed, Gaea’s armies will never die. They have no time. In about a month, the Romans will march on Camp Half-Blood. The stakes are higher than ever in this adventure that dives into the depths of Tartarus.

The Bad:

I wish I could have gotten a little more of Piper. Piper is one of my favorite characters, as you may have seen in my most recent Tuesday Top Ten. I think that she has way more to her than she thinks she does. She does have a moment where she really proves herself, and its seriously awesome. I just wish I could have gotten more of her.

The Good:

The hardest part about doing this particular review is that I have to be spoiler free, since I have finished it before most other people. I started reading at at 10 pm, which was midnight EST, when it released. I finished it at 3 am. Most people couldn’t even go to a store and buy a book to even begin reading it.

So I need to be careful. Its only been out for two days and so I just want to make sure I tell you how much I loved it without spoiling it for anyone.

Bottom line: I LOVED this book, and it was way worth the year that it took to get here. The Mark of Athena leaves off on the most ridiculous cliffhanger EVER, which left me staring at the last page, thinking, “No. No way. There’s NO way he just did that!” Yeah, yeah, he did. And he enjoyed it too. Check out the dedication page of The House of Hades

photo

That made me laugh. I knew I was in for a good ride once I saw that, and you all will be too.

This book is considerably darker than the books that we’ve seen before. We are left with this ridiculous seemingly impossible task: Leo, Hazel, Frank, Piper, Jason and Nico are racing to The House of Hades to get to the door, while Percy and Annabeth fall into Tartarus, with the plan to meet them at the Doors of Death. Both are crazy, dangerous, impossible tasks. Even though our heroes are demigods and they wield powers and weapons that are beyond this world, they are also just kids, and they make mistakes and their world gets hard and complicated. Demigods don’t usually get to live very long.

The journeys that each group takes are both incredible. The twists and turns, the warnings. The help they get along the way, the help that they may or may not be able to trust. The weapons that are used, and the obstacles they must all face. Its incredibly. Every time you think it can’t get any worse, or any better, or any more nerve wracking or entertaining, it does.

And all the characters grow so much in this novel. They are older teens, at the verge of adulthood, and in this book, you see them all grow up a lot. Everyone is faced with so much in this novel, and in different ways. Each character is tested, and the way they handle it is amazing, and you’re literally watching them grow up before your eyes. This is especially notable with Annabeth and Percy, the characters that we’ve known since they were children. I also think the growing up that Leo does in this novel is also HUGE.

I’m starting a thread on my forums, that you can access here, for those you want to discuss the books with spoilers and all that fun stuff. I hope to see you there, because I love this book, and its so hard to write this without wanting to burst out all the spoilers!

Rating:

5 out of 5 Stars. Duh!

Recommended or Not?

Yes. I mean, if you’ve already read the first three in the series, I’m sure you’re dying to read this one. So go out, buy a copy and dive in. It was definitely worth the wait. Now I just need to sit back and wait for the fifth book, The Blood of Olympus, which is set to release sometime in 2014.

Tuesday Top Ten-Favorite Percy Jackson Characters

Happy The House of Hades Release Day! I am so happy! I can’t wait to go diving into this novel! I’ve been waiting SO anxiously for this book to release ever since I finished The Mark of Athena last year. Such a cliffhanger.

Now, dosage to celebrate the awesome release of this book, information pills I have decided to have a Percy Jackson themed Tuesday Top Ten today.

I honestly thought this was going to be an easy Top Ten and I was soon proven to be completely wrong. But all ten are awesome, stuff and all the characters not on the list are STILL awesome.

10. Sally Jackson

010TLF_Catherine_Keener_002

Sally Jackson is a seriously awesome character in the novel. I think most middle grade/young adult heroes or heroines tend NOT to have parents. Its that orphan status that gives them the innocence and the drive to do the things they need to do. It also gives them the ability to do all these crazy things. There’s no authority there to watch them, really. But Percy is different: he has a mother, and a super loving and caring and sacrificing mother, and I think its awesome. Sally LOVES Percy, and does everything she can to make sure Percy is happy and safe. She marries gross and cruel Gabe in order to keep Percy safe for so many years. That right there is intense dedication. I also think its cool how, even though she loves and cares for him so much, she realizes who he is and what he needs to do, and knows that he can take care of himself. Plus there’s all the blue food. Any mom who goes out of her way to make all this food blue, because a jerk said something mean, is awesome!

9. Apollo

Dimitri_Lekkos_as_Apollo

Okay, so this isn’t at all what I picture Apollo to look like BUT I couldn’t find good fanart of him, so this is what we’re stuck with. I freakin LOVE Apollo. I love when he shows up with his convertible, bringing the sun with him every day. I think he’s like a ridiculous frat boy, or that boy in school that drives you crazy because he’s clowning around all the time. Or he even reminds me of my brothers, when they’re driving me insane. I like that he is joking around a lot. His ridiculous poetry, and his bursting into songs randomly. Please tell me that this made other people crack up too? Its like, this guy is a GOD. The SUN god. He brings the SUN everyday. Plus he annoys the heck out of Artemis and is always making moves on her Huntresses and its just all fun. I love that Rick will yank you from heartbreak to humor, and I love the humorous moments with Apollo. They never fail to make me smile.

8. Rachel Elizabeth Dare

Rachel_Elizabeth_Dare

You know why I like Rachel Elizabeth Dare? Okay, one is that her middle name is Elizabeth and that’s my middle name, which automatically equals cool factor. But I think I really like her because she’s so brave, and she’s so strong and she’s just a regular human (at first). You know, most people would meet Percy Jackson, and the situations he’s in, and FREAK out but she takes it in stride, helps him out, and then just continues to be there. I admit, I was a little frustrated when she was hitting on Percy, because I’ve been a Percabeth shipper from the beginning, but I love her as a character, and as a best friend for Percy Jackson. When she steps up to be the Oracle, and she continues to be a part of the world, I’m super stoked. I think she’s one of the best and strongest characters, because she’s a human. Its been confirmed that she’ll make an appearance in The House of Hades, which I am SO excited for!

7. Grover Underwood

brandon-t-jackson

Aw, who doesn’t love good ‘ol Grover. I like Grover because he isn’t the obvious hero. He’s bumbling, and he’s klutzy and he gets nervous and starts chewing on soda cans and paper, and he doesn’t always believe that he can do it. He is determined to find Pan, and to follow Pan’s mandate, and there are times when he can’t believe it, and its hard for him, but no matter what happens, he pushes on. He’s a great friend to Percy and Annabeth too. Both Percy and Annabeth are super brave and kind of crazy and reckless and Grover just kind of sucks it up and follows them. But on their journeys, he always has importance and he always kind of surprises everyone and prevails. He’s a strong character, and he’s intelligent and he’s Percy’s protector and he’s determined to do that. And he’s just so adorable too. Apparently he’ll have a slight appearance in HoH too, so yay!

6. Leo Valdez

Leo-Valdez-leo-valdez-16176443-1600-1200

Leo! You know why I love Leo. Okay, well there is a lot of reasons why I like Leo. One, I like that he’s kind of the loner in this group of couples, and I swear, I don’t mean that in a mean way. I know its hard for him, and that’s why I like him. I can understand that. I can understand being lonely and being the third wheel again and again and again, and not feeling like he’s important enough. But I think there’s a lot to Leo and I hope he can find someone. I think he’s extremely intelligent and the abilities he has with his hands, to build things, and to fix things is awesome. Its not as obvious as Percy controlling water, or Jason being able to fly. Its like a talent that is just reinforced by his parentage, from his dad, Hephaestus. I think its one of the best talents amongst the demigods that we get to know, because its not like he magically fixes things. He still has to tinker and figure it out, and he’s good at it. I also think he has a great heart, and its going to be great to see what happens next for Leo, and to see how his story evolves. And come on, Rick, let’s give him a girlfriend, okay? Haha.

5. Piper Mclean

Piper_McLean

Piper! Yes, I do like Piper, and I like her more than Hazel, which you will notice because Hazel isn’t on the list. (Though I do love Hazel, don’t get me wrong). I like Piper because her god parentage, and her powers, are so opposite of what she would want. She is the daughter of Aphrodite and can transform herself into perfection, and can charm speak anyone. And all of this is VERY begrudging to her at first. She does NOT like this at all. And I think that’s what endears me to her. I think if I found out that Aphrodite was my mother, and my power was beauty and persuasion, I’d be like, “how did I end up with the short end of the stick?” It just doesn’t seem like a great power, and because she hasn’t ever really displayed an obsession with her appearance before, she is just less than thrilled. I do love that she uses her persuasion to just get things like cars and such. That cracks me up. But I love that she learns to use this to her advantage. She doesn’t take advantage of people, but she uses it to gain the upper hand, to control situations and she’s good at it. So I love Piper. I love Piper because she has to build her confidence, unlike most of her siblings who just seem born with that confidence.

4. Tyson

Tysonsom

I LOVE Tyson, and honestly that’s helped along that Douglas Smith, who portrays him in Sea of Monsters, is just plain adorable. But I really do like Tyson, and I think that comes from what he teaches everyone and thats the idea of acceptance, tolerance and even friendship. Percy is totally fine with Tyson for a long time, until Poseidon claims him as a son, and its very annoying and frustrating to Percy. Then you have Annabeth and her fear and hatred of Tyson, and all Cyclops. Eventually his personality and loyalty and dedication wins everyone over, and its a learning experience for both Percy and Annabeth. Plus I think you’re apt to think Tyson is useless because he’s a Cyclops and he doesn’t talk very well, but he proves again and again how worthy he is to be claimed as a son of Poseidon.

3. Zoe Nightshade

Zoe_Nightshade_by_naiubl

Zoe! I miss Zoe. Zoe was one of my favorite characters probably because I tell myself all the time that I would not be a demigod, but instead I’d like to be a Huntress of Artemis’s and I would love to be the leader. I think Zoe is amazing, strong, brave, but still learning after all this time. Plus her grudging hatred of men, and her slow build in trust of Percy is just fun to watch. It goes back to that idea that people can change, and they can learn new things from each other. But more than that, she’s brave and so loyal to Artemis and she fights hard, so hard to get her back, and will do anything to get back. I like that she’s stubborn too, and that she is stuck in her old fashioned ways and says things like “thou” and “thee”. One of my favorite parts in all of the books is when they’re at the Hoover Dam, and keep saying things like “dam water fountain” and “dam tshirt” and Grover, Thalia and Percy are cracking up, and Zoe is so confused. I love that they mention it again in The Mark of Athena.

2. Percy Jackson

Percy-Jackson-Sea-of-Monsters-Image-0111

PERCY! I adore Percy, and yes, that is in part because Logan Lerman plays him, and he’s adorable and he was SO super sweet when I met him a few months ago. But Percy is the hero of the whole series, and one of the heroes in Heroes of Olympus series, and he’s a great character. Its his humor from page one of The Lightning Thief that really captures you into the entire series. No matter what is going on, he’s making you laugh. His sarcasm and humor keeps me addicted from page one to the very last page. And sure, his fatal flaw is his loyalty to his friends, but I love it. I love how loyal he is. He risks everything all the time for his friends and for his family, and even for people he barely likes such as Clarisse. I like that he fights so hard, and risks so much, and he does it all with such sarcasm and humor, and that he’s willing to push buttons. And I love his dedication to Grover and Annabeth, especially Annabeth. He really believes in her, and trusts her, and she’s the only person who scares him, which is how it should be ;)

1. Annabeth Chase

Stars On The Set Of 'Percy Jackson: Sea Of Monsters'

Annabeth is the best character in the entire novel because she’s so STRONG and FUNNY and WITTY and just plain awesome. I love that her strength is her cleverness and her ability to strategize. I love that she keeps up with the boys all the time, and its not like she’s a girl, she’s an equal with everyone else. She’s stubborn and hopeful and she is so determined. I always thought it was kind of funny that Annabeth is blonde, and that sort of “dumb blonde” connotation but she’s incredibly smart. I also like her hat, even though its a Yankees hat, and just…no haha. But she’s prideful and stubborn and can be judgmental but she always eventually realizes her judgements and her pride, and she does the right thing. Plus, she’s really nerdy with her obsession with architecture. And her relationship with Percy, the way she’s so in love with him, but she doesn’t let it control her, and she’s totally in control, and Percy can be SUPER scared of her, is just great. Percabeth for life.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Movie Review

Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monster

Rated:

Rated PG for fantasy action violence, help some scary images and mild language

Thor Freudanthal

Cast:

Logan Lerman, more about Alexandra Daddario, Brandon T. Jackson, Douglas Smith, Levin Rambin, Nathan Fillion, Jake Abel, Stanley Tucci, Anthony Head.

My Review:

I’m really sad to say this. I’m breaking down to say this, because I had such a great time at the red carpet premiere/meet and greet yesterday. The five actors (Logan, Alexandra, Brandon, Douglas and Levin) that I met were super nice, and awesome, and took the time to talk to each person, even though the line was SUPER rushed, and they didn’t really have time to talk to everyone. I had such an amazing time.

We got to see the movie for free as part of the meet and greet, and the red carpet premiere. It was a small premiere but they had the five main kids, and a couple others and the director and it was a seriously fun time.

Unfortunately the movie didn’t deliver, and I was fairly disappointed.

Here’s the thing: the movie itself wasn’t bad. It was actually pretty good. The acting skills of the kids have gotten a lot better since the first movie, which hit theaters in 2010, three years ago. They’ve all done movies since then, movies that have done pretty well and you can tell the acting skills have just gotten so much better.

The movie itself was really great too. The effects were much better than the first one, there were well timed jokes, and I really liked the hippocampus, Rainbow, and I liked the cyclops, and the sort of stunts that they all pulled. I loved Douglas Smith as Tyson. Granted Tyson was a bit smarter in the movie than he is in the book, but I think he still captured the sweetness and innocence that is Tyson. I was really impressed with him, and Levin as Clarisse. She wasn’t at all what I pictured for Clarisse because she’s SOOO insanely beautiful and Clarisse is supposed to be huge, and ugly and MEAN. But I still liked her.

Also, Logan was super adorable and way attractive. It feels a lot less creepy to have a crush on Percy Jackson as 21 year old Logan Lerman than 12 year old Percy in the books haha. Also, Jake Abel makes an extremely sexy villain.

But here’s the thing: the movie was good if you’ve never read the book, or have absolutely no attachments to the beautiful story that is the books. There was so much that was changed, I couldn’t handle it. I know its been awhile since the last time I read it but I’ve read it several times and I didn’t remember a lot of the stuff that was happening in the movie, and I remember feeling really confused. I remember thinking, okay, maybe I’m wrong and I don’t remember the book. But then I talked to my friend, Deb, who was at the movie with me and is a bigger PJ fan than me and she was devastated, disappointed and pissed off, and I knew that I wasn’t the only person who wasn’t remembering things differently.

There was also the end. I don’t really want to get into it too much, because the movie doesn’t come out til Wednesday and I don’t want to give away spoilers or anything. But honestly, I thought, with the way the ending was going, that they were never going to make another movie, and this was how it was going to end. They made assumptions about Percy’s Riptide that were NOT true. I was about to cry, I was so disappointed in the direction that they were taking the story at the end. The very end of the movie ended up being the most accurate ending to the movie, as it was the exact ending of the book, but it has made it clear that they are only going to make one more movie, if they make any more at all. Which makes me incredibly sad, because The Titan’s Curse and The Battle of Labyrinth are my two favorites, really, and I think they’ll skip straight to The Last Olympian.

I will say though: Nathan Fillion has a barely veiled joke about Firefly and it made me and a few others in the theater crack up and that was the highlight of the movie to me.

Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters Meet and Greet and Red Carpet Premiere

I’m pretty sure that was the longest title I’ve ever written as the beginning of a blog post.

So I’ve been really super busy this week and I’ve been trying to keep up with the blog and various related social media pages but I’ve had such a busy, cialis 40mg fun week so that didn’t totally work out the way that I wanted to. So I’m trying to make up for that now.

Wednesday, I journeyed down to the Americana at Brand, in Glendale, with my sister, Jessica, my friend Deb and my friend Sylvia (from FanGirlFeeels) to meet the cast of Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters at the Barnes and Noble there. We got in line fairly early (oh yes, 5:30 am) to ensure we’d get wristbands, and to try and get wristbands to the advance screening.

As we walked up, we saw ginormous posters of City of Bones and we had to take pictures with them, of course.

1013186_497050383717160_579101862_n

The security on duty spotted us doing this, and was just like “no judging”, which was REALLY funny.

994261_497050827050449_1698591079_n

We hung out in line, sleepy as heck, wrapped in our blankets, waiting for the doors to open to get our wristbands. We were able to get them, and we got a Sea of Monsters book, a poster, and guarantee into the advanced screening, which we discovered, while waiting for the signing to start at 2 pm, was a red carpet premiere!

1002156_497050467050485_1187096322_n

Meeting the cast was absolutely fantastic. Logan Lerman (Percy Jackson), Alexandra Daddrio (Annabeth Chase), Brandon T. Jackson (Grover Underwood), Douglas Smith (Tyson), and Levin Rambin (Clarisse la Rue) were all in attendance, and they were all SO nice, and such sweethearts. Brandon T. Jackson shook every single fan’s hand, and asked them their name, and they were all too pretty to look at it! They also were really cool and not judging about my serious freak out over the bug flying around in the book store. I really really really hate bugs. I’m just saying.

1001902_497050480383817_1492761050_n

We weren’t allowed to take pictures up front, in front of the table or with the cast or anything, we could only take them from the line. Well, my friend Deb had a great idea, to record on her phone, while putting it in a convenient side pocket in her purse. I didn’t have a side pocket on my purse so I pressed record on my own cell phone, and stuck it in my jeans pocket, and I got some decent shots. Here’s one of Logan and Alexandra signing a poster.

531784_497050730383792_155838657_n

We are so innovative. Deb got a TON of really good shots on her own camera, since hers wasn’t in her pocket, and you can check them out on her Twitter here.

524337_497050900383775_622313054_n

Then it was time for the screening of the Sea of Monsters. I figured we would be taken into the theater to watch the movie, but since we were toward the front of the line, we were ushered into a fan section, where we got to be right at the barricade, which was really cool. I was hoping to try and get pictures with most of the cast, but they eventually did corral us into the theater to watch the movie. We did get to see them again though, and I did manage to score a selfie picture with Douglas Smith, who is SUPER tall, absolutely adorable and did a great job of playing Tyson in the movie.

1000873_497051000383765_667819261_n

All in all, it was an absolutely wonderful afternoon. I had a great time hanging out with my friends, waiting (since that was most of our day), eating Wetzel’s Pretzels and playing Bang! and getting excited for some exciting Percy Jackson fun. The cast was super nice and beautiful, I got a cool signed poster, and got to see the Percy Jackson movie early, and for free!

There’s a movie review of Percy Jackson coming today or tomorrow so wait for it!

Tuesday Top Ten-Favorite Romantic/Sexy Scenes!

Apparently I am in a super romantic mode right now because I am continuing the romantic Tuesday Top Tens. I got the idea for this one from my dear author friend, check Erin Albert, sildenafil who read last week’s top ten and suggested something very similar to this one that I am doing right now.

I liked the idea because there are so many movies and books, cure TV shows, etc, where you wait and wait and wait for that moment, the moment that we’ve been building up to for way too long and when it finally happens, you want to squeal with happiness. Or there are those scenes that surprise you out of no where and you’re suddenly blushing. I love it. I love that a book or movie can make you feel that way and so I’m counting down some of my absolute favorite moments.

Also, most of the pictures that are posted today are fan art pictures, and I tried to find the artists but its really hard to find them when you Google the pictures. If you know who these pictures belong to, please let me know, so I can credit them! Especially since these are so beautiful :)

Here we go:

10. Harry and Ginny-Kiss After the Quidditch Match

url

Seriously? I did not see the Harry and Ginny thing coming at all in the slightest. We all knew Ginny had a crush but she moved on, and dated Michael Corner and Dean Thomas and then out of no where, Harry is super in love with Ginny and I was way into it. I feel like I am one of the only people who actually like Ginny and Harry together. I think it was both the most obvious and yet the least obvious thing to happen. And their first kiss was the first romance we really get in Harry Potter. Harry and Cho’s kisses are “off screen” and same with Hermione and Krum. Ron and Lavender is just straight up annoying. But Harry and Ginny’s first kiss after they win the Quidditch Cup, where Ginny goes sprinting across the common room and into his arms, is SO hot and so awesome. I was so incredibly disappointed in the movie kiss. SO lame. Harry and Ginny straight up have a juicy, beautiful first kiss and the kiss in the movie is too tame for me.

9. Samantha and Jake-After the Wedding

6a00e54ee7b64288330168ec048f39970c-800wi

When I was a young teeny bopper, from the age of about 12-18, I loved this movie with a huge passion. It still remains a movie that I adore but in high school? This was MY movie. I watched it so many times that even now, I can quote it on command. This moment in the movie is always the one that gets me every single time. Not the moment where they’re sitting on the table, and blowing out the candles and the kiss. This one. I remember seeing it for the first time and getting so excited. You’re not expecting it and Samantha is totally not expecting it and the music starts and Sam is so excited because the boy that she’s madly in love with is waiting outside the wedding for her, and you’re just filled with happy tummy bubbles. Plus, Jake Ryan was so hot. So so hot. I loved the name and he was so yummy to look at it and I so wanted to be Molly Ringwald and I just adore this moment.

8. Jace and Clary-City of Glass Moment

url-1

This moment (spoiler if you haven’t read these books) when Jace comes to Amatis’ house, after walking alone for hours, to tell Clary what they’ve both known all along? I die. Every single time. Jace is about to leave, to track down his father and kill him, to stop the war from happening and he has to tell Clary before he goes. He has to tell her. And at this point, we still believe Clary and Jace to be brother and sister, and I know I was shipping incest SO hard. When Jace cuts Clary off and says “There is no pretending. I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is a life after that, I’ll love you then.” Literally my favorite quote in the entire series because you’re just like, YES FINALLY! They can both stop denying it. Of course, then we learn that they aren’t actually brother and sister, and they can be together, but this is my moment. Its such a simple sweet moment, and Jace and Clary sleep together in the bed, barely touching, and its so simple, and it doesn’t have to be overly sexy to be perfect.

7. Magnus and Alec-First Kiss

url-2

This is an outside story, taking place during the events of City of Bones, but written as supplemental material. Alec is one of my absolute favorite characters in the Mortal Instruments series and I admire Cassandra Clare so much for including LGBT characters in her novels. I love the relationship between Magnus and Alec and the dynamic and all of that, and when I discovered that there had been a story written of their first kiss, I loved it. I was so happy, and I’m happy to hear that there will be more of Alec and Magnus in the Bane Chronicles. But this story of Alec’s first kiss ever is amazing because its so…real. Alec is so awkward and unsure, and he’s fumbling around and when Magnus kisses him, he reacts in such a cute and awesome way, and then he grabs Magnus and plants a messy kiss on him….its just too much for my Malec feelings to handle haha. And Godfrey Gao (who is playing Magnus in the movie) confirms that this scene WILL be in the movie. Oh.My.God.

6. Scarlett and Rhett-Dance at the Bazaar

url-3

I LOVE this moment. Its one of my absolute favorite parts in the book and the movie. I love that Scarlett is so different. I love that she wants so badly to be a pretty, popular, perfect Southern Belle but she isn’t. She’s not overly attractive, but she’s feisty and flirtatious and selfish and she likes to break the rules. When she’s in mourning for a husband she most definitely didn’t love and just wants to dance, its hard not to feel for her. I know, you should feel some sympathy for dead Charles Hamilton for a woman who married him and didn’t even care about it. But well, Charles is dead and Scarlett is seventeen years old and already a widow with a baby. So when Rhett purchases her to dance with him at the bazaar, and she’s not allowed to and yet she screams out “Oh, yes I will”, I just died. Its SUCH an amazing part. And they dance together all night. I think this is the moment when they both SHOULD have realized they were meant to be, and it was such a beautiful moment they shared, scandalizing all the respectable families of Atlanta.

5. Percy and Annabeth-You Dropped This

url-4

My Percy friend, Deb, would totally appreciate this, and we constantly fangirl about this part together. It took five books in the Percy Jackson series for Annabeth and Percy to finally get together, and then in the Heroes of Olympus series, we don’t get to see Percabeth until the Mark of Athena because they have been separated. That was just too hard to handle. So every little interaction, every kiss, every conversation is just too cute for me in Mark of Athena…in all the good ways. I just really love this part because it’s so…its so Percy and its so hilarious and its always so ridiculously romantic. Annabeth is being attacked, along with Hazel and someone else, I can’t remember, and she drops her dagger in the water because she knows Percy is in the ocean. Percy leaps out of the ocean, with the dagger, to save her, but says in a straight face “You dropped this.” Demigod in shining armor. Then Annabeth throws her arms around him and tells him she loves him and its just one of those moments that we had been waiting for for so long.

4. Will and Tessa-Balcony Scene

url-5

Okay, Cassandra Clare built up this scene for ages. She referred to it as the Dirty Sexy Balcony Scene and released a tiny little snippet to tease us about it and I was like, can this scene really be that good? Then I read Clockwork Prince, and I was practically panting by the end of this scene. We had been waiting to see some affection from Will for so long, and I was a major Wessa shipper once I had figured out why Will was so mean. I mean, if you thought a demon had cursed you so that everyone you loved and loved you died, you would act the way he would. But he loves Tessa so much that its tearing him apart and he’s killing himself trying to find the demon who placed that curse on him. So when this moment happens, I just was so happy. All this build up for this scene and it definitely delivered and it definitely did not disappoint. They both let go of their inhibitions during this scene (okay, and it was totally the punch, but whatever) and it makes for one sexy, beautiful scene.

3. Ron and Hermione-First Kiss

url-6

I had to put up this fan art of the scene instead of the movie scene, because even though I actually did like the movie scene, the book scene is better, and this artwork of it just made me crack up so much. I think it was so typical Hermione and Ron, and it took way too damn long to get there. I remember breathing really hard, and I had tears in my eyes and I squealed with excitement. This was a scene that had been built up for so long and when it finally happened, I was so happy. Through all the war, and the dying, and the crying, and all of that that was going on in Deathly Hallows, you had Ron and Hermione finally falling in love and being together, when Hermione realizes how much Ron has changed, how compassionate he is, and how they both just love each other so much. Its such a perfect moment. I really love the book scene because of Ron’s concern for the house elves, which everyone knows is SO important to Hermione and she just throws herself into his arms and they have an amazing kiss. Then there’s the awesomeness of Harry standing there, like, “Um, guys, there’s a war going on…” Such a great moment.

2. Jace and Clary-Seelie Court Scene

url-7

Again with the incest! Seriously, Cassandra Clare, you are such an amazing and talented writer that you got a ton of people to ship incest for two and a half books. We’ve just found out Jace and Clary are brother and sister at the end of City of Bones and we spend the first half of City of Ashes watching the ANGST of these two characters as they can’t even look at each other anymore, because they are so obviously madly in love. We get to the Seelie Court (which is faeries, if you don’t know), and the Seelie Queen says Clary has to say because she has consumed some of their drink. The only way to free her is with a kiss. There’s a debate on what that means, and Simon, who is kind of dating Clary, tries to kiss her but that’s not the kiss that works. “The kiss that will free the girl is the kiss that she most desires”. Meaning Jace, of course. And you think, they want to save Clary so Jace’ll kiss Clary real quick and it’ll be done. But NO, its a gut wrenching, sexy, beautiful, amazing kiss that is so heartbreaking and amazing. Oh god. I love that scene so much. The amount of pain and confusion and emotion that is going through Jace and Clary and Simon and Isabelle and Jace makes this easily one of my VERY favorite scenes. It MUST be in the City of Ashes movie, or I will be SO disappointed.

1. Han and Leia-The “I Know” Moment

url-8

I literally find this to be the most romantic scene EVER. Like, I thought this scene was so incredibly romantic that all I wanted my entire life was to find a guy that would say “I know” to me when I said “I love you”. And not the way my high school boyfriend said it. He said it because it was the easiest way for him to completely avoid what I said to him haha. When Jon said it to me, and he had a smile on his face, I so knew I had found the right guy because he was saying it like Han Solo. George Lucas talks about how the original script had Han saying “I love you” back, but after several takes, it just wasn’t working. So they decided to just go with it, and this is what came out of Harrison Ford’s mouth. And I don’t think there could have been any other way for this to work. Its SO Han Solo, and so romantic because he is totally saying it back but in his scoundrel, bad boy ways and I just love it. Han Solo <3 Sigh.

Things to Look Forward to in 2013

The year is halfway over. Its July and its full on summer mode here in Southern California. The 4th of July is that turning point of the year; its half way over.

And I’m sitting here, viagra approved enjoying my summer vacation before I start my last two years of college, thinking about all the awesome things that have already come out and happened this year. Clockwork Princess. WonderCon. Meeting SO many authors. Star Trek premiere. So many cool things.

But then I was thinking about it, and I was like, there is still SO MUCH MORE to look forward to with the rest of the year. So much more.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones

Premiere Date: August 12, 2013

Release Date: August 21, 2013

url-1

I am SOOOO insanely excited for this. The Mortal Instruments series is one of my absolute favorite book series and I cannot wait to see it on the big screen. When they first started making it, I admit I was extremely wary. I was afraid of them making another Twilight, and while this series keeps getting compared to Twilight, its nothing like it and it looks amazing! I was also super wary of some of the casting, especially the casting of Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland but I ended up being proven so wrong, at least of what I’ve seen so far. So far, the directors, producers and movie studio have gone out of there to stay connected to the fans, to see what we’d like to see and what we like about we’ve seen so far and they’ve responded in kind. And the trailer shows me a seriously badass movie. I am looking forward to this movie adaptation because its looking like the best that I’ve seen in awhile.

Doctor Who 50th Anniversary and 12th Doctor Announcement

Release Date: November 23, 2013

url-1

I LOVE DOCTOR WHO, and my love for Doctor Who only increased when I went to Gallifrey One, the Doctor Who convention in February. I enjoyed Series 7, though it wasn’t my favorite, and I have been eagerly anticipating the GREAT 50th anniversary special that is sure to come this year. That is when they announced that David Tennant (the 10th Doctor) and Billie Piper (Rose Tyler) would be joining Matt Smith (the 11th Doctor) and Jenna-Louise Coleman (Clara Oswin Oswald) for the 50th. I literally squealed with fangirl excitement. David Tennant is amazing, and his rendition of the Doctor is just…its the best and I ADORE Rose and I can’t wait to see the shenanigans that these four get up to. Then Matt Smith announced that he would be retiring as the 11th Doctor and all eyes and ears in the DW fandom are anxiously awaiting the announcement of the 12th Doctor. So much amazing DW coming our way :)

Tammara Webber’s Here With You

Ebook Release: August 6, 2013

Paperback Release: August 27, 2013

url-2

I wasn’t even aware that there would be a fourth book in this series but I am so excited that there will be, especially since Reid Alexander is a main player in this book again. If Reid Alexander were a real celebrity, I’d: A, want him to play Jace Wayland in City of Bones and B, I’d be WAY obsessed with him that way girls are obsessed with Justin Bieber. I have a feeling a lot is going to be going on with this book, and I think the past that Reid has with his ex, Brooke, is going to come up big time with this book. I think we’re finally going to see more of that then we’ve ever seen before.

Sarah J. Maas’ Crown of Midnight

Release August 27, 2013

17167166

The first of these books, Throne of Glass, is an absolute masterpiece and its no wonder, as it took Sarah nearly 10 years to write. Its an epic fantasy, with a badass character in Celaena, who is literally a legendary, almost mythical assassin. She can fight, and kill and she has a wicked sense of humor and she likes to curl up with a book. And she has two very different men falling in love with her, and she’s too busy trying to get her freedom. And…even though I absolutely loathe love triangles, I can’t decide which man I like better: Dorian or Chaol. But what a wonderful world that Sarah has created and I can’t wait to see this story continue and to see what other wicked adventures Celaena gets herself into.

Jennifer L Armentrout’s Origin

Release Date: August 27, 2013

url-3

I can’t WAIT for this book (did I mention that this book and the previous two mentioned ALL COME OUT THE SAME DAY!). If you’ve read the end of Opal, the third book in the Lux series, you’ll understand. MAJOR cliffhanger, and you just know that Daemon is PISSED and he’s ready to take on the world to get Katy back and its going to be amazing. Just the differences in covers alone shows that this is going to be a VERY different novel from the previous. I hope it’ll be more action packed and it’ll take the story in completely new directions. I am SO excited for this book; I’m counting down the days.

Veronica Roth’s Allegiant

Release Date: October 22, 2013

url-4

I read Divergent TWO days before the release of Insurgent and stayed up til 3 a.m. reading Insurgent on its release day. It was released on May 1st, 2012 and I’ve already been waiting for over a year for this book. I know plenty of other Divergent fans who haven’t waited nearly as long as I have, so trust me haha, I’m dying for this book to come out, especially with the damn cliffhanger this book leaves you with! I remember reading this SO late at night and thinking, “No…no way. No, Veronica Roth, you don’t do this to me.” This is one of the most anticipated releases of the year in the YA genre, and with the movie wrapping up filming this month, its sure to be a best-seller within minutes. I canNOT wait to see the conclusion of this epic dystopian series.

Rick Riordan’s The House of Hades

Release Date: October 8, 2013

url-5

Again with the cliffhangers. The Mark of Athena, the book right before this one, leaves off with an EPIC cliffhanger. Sorry I’m about to spoil it so if you haven’t read the previous books, I would move on to the next time on the list. I’m warning you. Okay, we leave off with Percy and Annabeth (one of my OTP!) literally FALLING INTO TARTARUS, the deep depths of the Underworld and the Romans of Camp Jupiter charging toward Camp Half Blood, with attack the only objective on their minds. What a way to leave off. Only a year in between books but it is SO hard to wait. And this cover, with an extremely beat up Percy and Annabeth, running from…something, just gets me wriggling with anticipation. Rick Riordan has never failed to disappoint me so this is definitely a book to count down on.

Catching Fire Release

Release Date: November 22, 2013

url-6

I can’t wait for this movie for three reasons. One, I loved the first one but I wasn’t incredibly impressed with it. I’m hoping CF is better :) Two, Finnick Odair. Do I need to say anything else? And three, my friends all went to the Hunger Games premiere last year and had an awesome time and now we are going to the CF premiere and its sure to be a FANTASTIC time. This is a great book series, and the movie is chock full of great actors like Jennifer Lawrence, Woody Haralson, Donald Sutherland, Jenna Malone and so much more. I am excited to see how they accomplish the build up that Catching Fire is. I also am really curious to see how well they pull of the Quarter Quell and the ridiculous arena that is the 75th Hunger Games. I remember reading it and thinking it was crazy, and its going to be epic on the big screen.

The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug Release

Release Date: December 13, 2013

url-7

Okay, I don’t care what any of those so-called fancy Hollywood movie “critics” say. They aren’t fans of the Tolkien universe and they just don’t know. This movie wasn’t made for the critics; it was made for the fans and all the fans that I know…LOVED the first movie. I know I did. I was incredibly impressed and I wanted it to go on forever and I loved the extra stories they added from The Silmarillion and the appendices. This movie is bound to be epic because we get to see more elves (including Thandruil and Legolas) and Benedict Cumberbatch’s sexy dragon voice and so much more. I just know that the movie will continue to be as epic as the first one was. My super cool friend, Kathleen, from New Zealand got me some epic Hobbit shirts and I can’t wait to wear them when seeing this movie for the first time.

Cinda Williams Chima’s The Enchanter Heir

Release Date: October 1, 2013

url-8

I am so incredibly…okay I’ve said it like a hundred times now…excited for this book because Cinda Williams Chima is a fantasy GENIUS. Seriously. I will push her on you until the day I die because she is an absolutely brilliant and talented writer and I don’t think its fair that she doesn’t get the credit that she deserves when there are extremely popular YA authors out there, with huge fandoms, that aren’t even good. Okay, moving on, this is the 4th book in the Heir Chronicles, though it can be read without reading the first three. Its an urban fantasy, a brilliantly crafted fantasy world wrapped up in modern day worlds. I read all seven of Cinda’s previously released books in a matter of about a month and so now I am dying to have my socks knocked off again by this amazing writer.

Anniversary Edition Harry Potter Books

Release Date: August 27, 2013

url-9

I hate change. I really do. I would rather things just be left alone and kept the way they originally were meant to be. Like the original Star Wars trilogy. Why George Lucas, why, did you add all that unnecessary CRAP  to that movie? Ugh. So when they announced that each book in the Harry Potter series would be getting updated covers for the 15th anniversary of the Sorcerer’s Stone’s publication in the US, I wasn’t really thrilled. Until the covers started to be revealed and I was thoroughly impressed. As much as I believe that Mary Grandpre’s covers are the best and will always remain my favorite, these covers (so far, five have been released) are just so beautiful done and are so incredibly impressive and full of artistic talent. I went from shaking my head, to looking at these with eyes wide and immediately rushing to Amazon to place my pre-order. And of course, this box set comes out the EXACT SAME DAY as Origin and Crown of Midnight and Here Without You…

Marie Lu’s Champion

Release Date: November 5, 2013

champion.indd

This is going to be the most epic finale to the BEST dystopian series that I have ever read. Yes, better than The Hunger Games, and yes, better than Divergent. Marie Lu creates a one of a kind dystopian universe (she actually talks about countries besides the US!) and she creates two conflicting, yet in love characters, and her back and forth point of views just leave us with a breath taking, addicting story. I adore both June and Day and the cliffhanger she leaves us with (SPOILER: Day is dying…and he didn’t tell June) is just too much for me to handle. Luckily, after reading Prodigy on its release day in January, I didn’t have to wait long for Champion’s release, which is in November! Not even a year. That, my friends, is possibly the best news a reader can get.

Percy Jackson: The Sea of Monsters

Release Date: August 7, 2013

url-11

I was incredibly disappointed in the first movie. I don’t think its as TERRIBLE as everyone makes it out to be but it definitely isn’t a good movie. Its kind of one of those guilty pleasure movies; plus, Logan Lerman is so adorable, I just want to eat him up. But it wasn’t great, and it failed in the box office, so it surprised me immensely when they announced that the second book, Sea of Monsters, was being filmed. Pleasantly surprised but also wary. Now, I’ve seen stills and trailers and I’m not completely sold yet but I do like this book a lot and I am hoping that they are able to revamp this movie series and we can get to Titan’s Curse, which is my FAVE of the Olympians series. I hope, I hope!

Meg Cabot’s The Bride Wore Size 12

Release Date: September 24, 2013

url

Heather Wells is one of my idol characters to look up to because she makes me feel better about myself, both inside and out. Heather is a bigger girl, and she used to be a smaller, famous pop star who basically lost everything but as the books go on, she gains more and more confidence, and becomes so happy in the skin that she’s in and I love that. I love that the more I gain confidence in the size that I wear (which is, a size 12), the more I feel like this badass heroine. Now, after all these books, I am so happy that she is finally getting married and to the person that she’s always wanted to be married to, and I can’t wait to see what adventures she is bound to get into because its Heather and someone is bound to die and Heather is bound to catch them.

I am also looking forward to the return of Once Upon a Time in the fall for season 3, the new series, Once Upon a Time in Wonderland, as well. I am excited for Vampire Diaries and the new series, The Originals. I am also anticipating the return of Sherlock, season 3, though I believe that may be in 2014. So much is coming!

So that was a really long, epic post but I hope you all enjoyed it! There are just SO many cool things left to look forward to in 2013!
