That Time I Baked Blue Cupcakes for Percy Jackson’s Birthday!

Happy Birthday to one of my absolute favorite characters pretty much ever, sale Mr. Percy Jackson himself! He is turning 22 today (whoa, adiposity when did I get so old…) and what’s even better is that a brand new book, remedy Greek Heroes, hits bookstores today! Learn all the stories about the Greek heroes of the past from your favorite demigod himself, Percy. To learn more about that book, check out my spotlight on the book!

But yes! It is Percy’s birthday!

I was trying to decide how to celebrate his birthday and it hit me! Percy Jackson loves the color blue. He loves blue Coke, and blue chocolate chip cookies and all the blue candy in the world. It would stand to reason that he loves blue cupcakes as well right.

Half Blood Book Review

Half Blood by Jennifer L. Armentrout

GoodReads Summary:

The Hematoi descend from the unions of gods and mortals, information pills and the children of two Hematoi pure bloods have godlike powers. Children of Hematoi and mortals–well, not so much. Half-bloods only have two options: become trained Sentinels who hunt and kill daimons or become servants in the homes of the pures. Seventeen-year-old Alexandria would rather risk her life fighting than waste it scrubbing toilets, but she may end up slumming it anyway. There are several rules that students at the Covenant must follow. Alex has problems with them all, but especially rule #1:Relationships between pures and halfs are forbidden. Unfortunately, she’s crushing hard on the totally hot pure-blood Aiden. But falling for Aiden isn’t her biggest problem–staying alive long enough to graduate the Covenant and become a Sentinel is. If she fails in her duty, she faces a future worse than death or slavery: being turned into a daimon, and being hunted by Aiden. And that would kind of suck.

My Review:

I absolutely love the Lux series by Jennifer L. Armentrout. I do. I remember feeling really apprehension about buying it because I didn’t like the cover, and some people had said it was too romantic and mushy but I ended up really liking, and I think a big part of that was the fact that the main character, Katy, was a book blogger, and Daemon was a hot alien who reminded me of Jace Wayland. But I do enjoy the series, and I eagerly await the final installment.

That being said, I’ve had quite a few people bugging me to read her other series, the Covenant series, for awhile now, some of them a little more demanding than others (I’m looking at you, Erin and Eilidh). I read a lot of books os it was on my “to-read” list but I just couldn’t make time for it. Then yesterday, for some reason, even though I have a huge stack of books to read, I decided to pick up the first in the series, Half Blood.

I finished it last night.

I think I’m already way more in love with this series than I am with the Lux series. and I do genuinely love that series. But oh my god, Half Blood absolutely blew me away. There’s something different that Jennifer Armentrout captures in these novels that I just don’t think comes across in Lux, and its just a great book. I immediately went to my friend, and was like “I’m broke, help me find the others” and she lent me the second one on Kindle, which I am EAGERLY waiting to read once I’m done reviewing it all for you.

The main character, Alexandria who goes by Alex, is just a seriously awesome character. She is so, excuse the language, but badass. She’s a fighter, she has a tough attitude and she’s stubborn as all hell. She has to prove that she is worth to stay at the Covenant and she has to work hard to prove that, but her temper and her stubbornness gets in the way of that sometimes and it makes you love her as a character. I hate perfect characters that always tend to do the right thing, and even when they do the wrong thing, its because they were trying to do the right thing. Alex is a very real character, and she has her own doubts and ideas and she gets distracted and she flies off the handle and she doesn’t always do the right thing, and I absolutely love that. I love that you’re so in her head that you feel her confidences and her doubts and her emotions. She feels so real to you.

I love all the other characters as well. Seth is pretty interesting and I’m curious to see how the interactions between him and Alex continue in the future of the books. I can’t say much more than that about him because it would be wicked spoiler like. I adore Aidan, because well, you’re totally supposed because he’s super hot, and a badass fighter and Alex is mad about him, and yeah, now I’m mad about him. Caleb is a fun character, who I wish I had as my best friend. There are so many characters, and even if you only see them for so long, you know them. That’s a mark of Jennifer L. Armentrout. She creates these massive worlds but she builds all the characters to seem real, and she does it so quickly.

I really enjoyed the story, and really whipped through it. Its a very different view of the whole demigod idea, which is a popular choice of story telling in the past few years but its interesting to see the different approaches that you get and I really like this one. I think its interesting how there’s almost a hierarchy based on if you’re a pure blood or a half blood, and even when you’re a half blood, whether you’re a servant or a Sentinel. Its so interesting which makes me believe that there’s going to be way more to this story than just Alex’s struggles but perhaps the struggle between the different classes of demigods. It should be super interesting. Now, I’m going to urge all of you to go read this book, so I can stop writing this review and go read the second one!

Tuesday Top Ten-Fictional Places to Live

Hello everyone! How’s it going? I hope you are all fantastic and happy and all that.

I’m pretty happy. Things have been…just really good lately. I’ve been really working my butt off to do things that I want to do. I am almost done with this semester of school and I feel that I did well in both of my classes. I am working on this blog harder than ever, store working on getting it out there, ed getting my hands on ARCs and getting interviews with authors, doctor and making it as awesome as possible for you guys that read it. I’m also working hard on my third novel, the novel that I really want to be good and successful, because I want to look for an agent this summer and maybe get my book sold :)

Its also going to be my blog’s one year birthday on Thursday, which is SO exciting and I can’t wait to share the super AWESOME giveaway that will be coming your way in celebration of it all.

I also have a really cool interview with Unremembered author, Jessica Brody, coming VERY soon :)

So things are doing good.

But now on to the purpose of this blog post: The Tuesday Top Ten!

One thing that is really great about books is the worlds that they create. Authors have a way of creating worlds that are so real and so believable and you can’t help but just want to be a part of them. You wish these worlds were real because in your mind, they are real. You can pick up a book and escape into these fantastic worlds and these fantastic places and its just awesome.

So here are some of the fictional places that I wish were real!

10. Westeros-Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire

got_winterfell_final2

Okay, I realize that so far, Westeros isn’t exactly the most fun place to live. You have all these people dying and political strife and this crazy weather thing where you have years of summer and years of winter. But I love the world the George R.R. Martin creates in his Song of Ice and Fire series. Because we get such a realistic world but with such fantastical things as well. We have political strife, and castles, and holdings and a kingdom and knights and all those sort of things but we also hive these gigantic wolves and the white walkers and dragons and its just a world that is so dark and sexy and desirable, despite all the bad shit that is going down in these books. Its that knights and castles and kings and queens world that you loved when you were a kid but better because it recognizes the adult world, and that there was famine and diseases and whore houses. I don’t know, I like it a lot because of both the fantasy and realistic nature of it. I’d be super down to live there…except the whole winter thing. I’m not a big fan of winter.

9. The Shire-The Hobbit/The Lord of the Rings

url

If anyone makes a comment on my height, I’ll punch them in the face. Especially since I wouldn’t doubt that most hobbits are actually taller than me. How tall are hobbits anyway? I’d probably fit in so well there. I think I want to live in the Shire of all places in Middle Earth because it has such a homey feel to it. I love Rivendell, and how absolutely gorgeous it is but its very…intimidating, I think is the word I’m looking for. Its too much for me to handle. But there’s something comfortable and homey and familiar about the Shire. And the houses are so cute. I would love to live in a little hobbit hole. In the Shire, its all about food and happiness and reading and relaxing and who wouldn’t be into that, especially since I do love reading and I do love food :) It just seems like a very pretty and pleasant place to live. And who knows, maybe I could become best friends with Bilbo or Frodo and go on epic adventures…though I think I’d rather go on adventures with Bilbo and not Frodo. Bilbo had the less scary adventure. And I really want to have a pet rabbit named Bilbo Bunny…okay, I’m getting off topic…

8. Narnia-The Chronicles of Narnia

url-6

I really like Narnia because even when things are going down, its still a pretty and gorgeous world with talking mice and centaurs and beavers and badgers and all that. I’ve already kind of made it clear that I’m not the biggest fan of the books; I understand it was the times but C.S. Lewis had some serious issues with girl characters, especially Susan. And its a little too religious for my tastes. But I do really enjoy the movies and I think they picked some gorgeous locations to shoot the movie. I remember when I watched The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe for the first time and the Pevensie children leave Narnia when they’re older and I’m like “WHERE ARE YOU GOING?!?!” I was so mad. I think Narnia is appealing because its such a magical world. It gives me the same kind of feeling that Disneyland does, that feeling of magic and imagination and that feeling of being a kid again and feeling like anything is possible, like children leaders or talking animals and centaurs and good overcoming evil and that sort of thing. Its nice to disappear into such a wholesome and wonderful world for a little bit.

7. Camp Half-Blood-Percy Jackson and the Olympians

url-1

I want to go to Camp Half-Blood so badly! I want to be a demigoddess so badly! I’ve always been fairly obsessed with Greek myths; there’s just something so fascinating about them. I wish I had been born in those times, those were the kind of gods and goddesses that I could really get behind. But I really enjoy the stories especially when you learn how they are the root of some of the words we use or the myths and superstitions that we know now and things like that. They’re really fun stories, especially since these gods and goddesses…they aren’t these perfect beings, they make mistakes too. But anyway, I’d be pretty stoked to have a god/goddess as a parent and have these super cool powers and go on adventures and live in this super cool camp with all these other children who have god parents too. I mean, sit around at home, watching TV and basically do nothing on summer vacation or go to this cool camp where you learn to fight and harness your powers and play a badass version of Capture the Flag and all that? I think you know which one I would pick. I would really like to be Artemis‘s daughter too. I know, not possible, since she swore to be a maiden, and to abstain from men and she would never have a child but…Artemis is such a badass. I remember wanting to name a pet “Artemis” once and my mom was just like “Seriously?” Yes, seriously. Greek myths are awesome and Camp Half-Blood would be a super cool place to live.

6. Enchanted Forest-Once Upon a Time

url-2

I LOVE fairy tales and I would love to live in the Enchanted Forest, where all the fairy tale characters come together and basically live in one spot, especially since Once Upon a Time makes all the girl characters super awesome and kickass. I mean, Snow White? I love her and all but in the Disney movie, she’s SO annoying and she’s SO incredibly dumb in the original story. Ginnifer Goodwin‘s Snow White is super awesome and battle ready and just as strong as the Prince Charming she comes to love. Belle is whip smart, and ready to do what she needs to do to help her father and her kingdom. Red Riding Hood is a werewolf, who learns how to harness her transformation and use it as a tool of survival and battle. Ella (Cinderella) is a whole lot stronger in the show, and is ready to do anything to preserve her family. All of the characters are so different in this show than any other adaptation we see of them. And I’d love to live in this place where magic and fairy tales are real but in a way that I can enjoy them and in a way where I can learn from these seriously amazing and strong female characters. Even though Regina, the Evil Queen, is an evil character, you can still even empathize with her and you can still see her as a strong character. Again, its one of those magical worlds that you’d love to live in.

5. The Queendom of the Fells-Seven Realms Series
url-3

I think a big reason why I would love to live in Cinda William Chima‘s Queendom of Fells is because…well its called the Queendom! The lineage passes through the women of the royal family, not the men, which I find to be VERY interesting and something that we don’t see often. I love that the reason behind is because they worship the first woman of the line, Hanalea, who was their savior. Throughout the year, they hold steadfast confidence in Hanalea and her line of successors and even when things start to get rocky, there are still so many people who are by Raisa‘s side and helping her and supporting her, even though she is only a sixteen year old royal. I also like the diversity that Cinda creates in her kingdoms especially between the people of the capital and then the wizards and the clans. We don’t get this straight across the board sort of country but a country that is full of diverse people. She creates kind of your typical white kingdom with royals and nobles and balls and that sort of thing but she throws the clans in there, and I love the clans because they have such different feels to them. I feel like they have some Native American to them, maybe some African, even some of the Asian cultures as well. I’d be really interested in exploring the very corners of this realm.

4. Tortall-Song of the Lioness, The Immortals, Protector of the Small, Trickster series, Beka Cooper series

url

I would absolutely positively die to live in the Tortall realm. Tamora Pierce has written five series that take place in the realm of Tortall (although, admittedly, one mostly takes place in the Copper Isles but the main character is FROM Tortall), and she has created five extremely strong female main protagonists. You have Alanna who disguises herself as a boy for eight years in order to earn her shield and become a knight, the first female knight in a hundred years. You have Daine who has an incredible magical ability to communicate with animals, heal them and to shape shift into any animal of her choice and who is incredibly brave and intelligent and uses it to defend the country she loves. You have Keladry who is the first female to openly try out for her shield to become her knight and to earn her place rightfully. You have Aly, who earns her place as a rebellion spymaster to restore a country’s rightful owners back in place and overthrown the tyrant rulers. Then you have the prequel stories of Beka, who is a soldier of the Provost Dogs, who is fantastically intelligent and brave and able to solve crimes and bring the bad guys down in a time, long before Alanna and Daine, and the rest were even alive. Add in magic, fair and just king and queens, knights and dragons and griffins, fancy dresses, adventures, horses and all sorts of awesome stuff and who on earth wouldn’t want to live in a place like this?

3. Idris-The Mortal Instruments/The Infernal Devices

url-4

Idris. Alicante. The City of Glass. The home country for Shadowhunters, their Jerusalem. A small country nestled in Europe, unnoticed by all us mundanes, its a place of beauty and of a world that holds on to the past in looks, while the bustling world goes on around them. In a world where we have square, boring builds, traffic and smog, there’s Idris, a small beautiful country where the Shadowhunters can be themselves and hold a little bit of Mother Earth’s beauty to themselves. And there’s something so appealing and magical about a place that is called the City of Glass. It is very old school. It reminds me of an old French town or Venice, Italy. I imagine canals and little houses and shops and this beautiful private community of extraordinary people. I want to be a Shadowhunter only less than I want to be a wizard or a Jedi and I think the fact that they have this small hidden away country is so awesome. I would love to grow up there, have a country home where I could have a horse to get around and I could learn what it took to be a Shadowhunter and go to dances in Alicante and feel safe and at home. It just seems like a wonderful place to live.

2. The Universe-Star Wars/Doctor Who/Star Trek/Etc.

url

I know, Sara, way to narrow it down there. I mean the universe, the galaxy, as in Doctor Who or Star Wars or even the new Star Trek. There is something really amazing about the fact that there is SO much out there, so many planets and stars and galaxies and there could be absolutely anything out there. There’s so much out there to explore. I wish I lived in a world like Doctor Who or Star Trek where they can explore these worlds and learn new things and see what else is out there besides just us. We are so centered on this planet, we think of ourselves as so important and big but we are so tiny in the grand scheme of things. There is so much out there that we don’t know about and I think it would be an amazing thing to have a TARDIS or a Millennium Falcon or an Enterprise to take us around to see these new worlds and to go on adventures and see the other beauties of the universe. I’m not going to lie, I think I’d be pretty scared at the idea of open space but also incredibly excited as well. The possibilities of the universe are absolutely endless. And when you’re with the Doctor or the Rebel Alliance, you really have the chance to make a difference, to save lives and have incredible adventures.

1. Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry-Harry Potter series

url-5

There is literally no other place in the world, both real and fiction, that I would rather be than this school. When you’re 9/10 years old and you’ve just moved from a roomy house to a house with your grandparents where you are sharing a room with your five brothers and sisters and your parents are fighting all the time, and you go to school and you’re teased all the time because, let’s face it, you’re not very girlie and aren’t really sure how to dress yourself properly and you have your nose in a book all the time and reading just isn’t cool, and life just seems to SUCK all the time…and you pick up this book and you find this incredible, amazing world…who wouldn’t fall in love? I would love to go to Hogwarts. I would love to learn magic and explore this ancient and fantastic castle and learn about hippogriffs and unicorns and make crazy potions and all of those things. These books have taught me more than anything else has and Hogwarts was the home that I would go to when reality just seemed to suck too bad, and its where I continue to go when life sucks and I’ve had a bad day. There’s a line in Deathly Hallows where Harry is looking up at Hogwarts castle and recognizing it as his home, as the home of Voldemort and Snape, the abandoned boys. That part gets to me every single time. Its a home for all of us, JKR created a home for us all. “Hogwarts will always be there to welcome you home” is what she said at the Deathly Hallows Part 2 premiere and she is so right. There is no place I’d rather be than at Hogwarts :)

Tuesday Top Ten-Favorite Fictional Bromances

I was reading one of my favorite blogs to follow, sickness over at The Urge to Write (which, incidentally, you should all check out. She’s a great writer and her blogs always keep me interested) and she recently did a list of top ten fictional bromances and I loved her list, which you can see here.
But anway, I really liked her list so I decided to make it one of my Tuesday Top Tens. I’m starting to write and plan my top tens before its even Tuesday because I can get SO busy. Like, I haven’t done a Book of the Week in a couple weeks and I meant to write a post about my experiences at Gallifrey One (which I finally did yesterday!) and I just went to a Conan taping on Wednesday for my birthday and I just haven’t done it. I’ve just been busy and when I’ve had a free moment, I just want to do NOTHING. Or read. I am SO far behind on my 200 books this year goal…I think six books behind. I gotta catch up.
And now that I’ve gotten sufficiently off topic…here is this week’s Tuesday Top Ten, my favorite bromances.

10. Damon and Stefan Salvatore

Damon-and-Stefan-damon-and-stefan-salvatore-8271473-1450-966
Okay besides the fact that these two are insanely hot and look absolutely nothing alike…well okay a big factor is the fact that they’re hot. But what I like about this pair of vampire brothers is that they are actually legitimately brothers. They were close before they were turned and even though their relationship grew tumultuous afterwards, you can tell they would still do anything for each other and they both do. When Elena chooses Stefan, Damon concedes even though you know it has to hurt. Stefan makes a terrible deal with Klaus, an evil Original vampire, in order to save Damon’s life. They’re obviously important to one another and they accomplish so much more when they work together. And they fight like normal brothers do, which gives them some humanity. And they are so pretty to look at.

9. Grover and Percy

Percy-and-Grover-pjo-the-lightning-thief-movie-17283407-1262-542
Percy’s fatal flaw, according to the series, is his deep and unwavering loyalty to his friends. We see that in his love for Annabeth and we see it in his love for his Cyclops brother, Tyson. But we also see it in his friendship with Grover. He firsts friends Grover at their school because he is handicapped, shy and nervous. He sticks by his side no matter what, and when he finds out that he is a demigod and that Grover is a satyr and his protector, he continues to stick by his side. These two are basically inseparable and are even connected at one point. I was sad to not really see Grover in the Heroes of Olympus, even though he doesn’t really need to be. Percy just seems kind of empty without his best friend. Grover and Percy are an awesome bromance because they stick together no matter what and have crazy, dangerous adventures together.

8. Will and Jem

will_and_jem_by_daubiss-d3hazd4
Will and Jem have an epic bromance because I swear at times, I think they’re going to just ditch Tessa and start making out with each other. Actually, sometimes, I kind of wish that would happen. Ha! What kind of ship name is that? Willem? Jemill? Anyway, I like the bromance of Will and Jem from the Infernal Devices because of their epic loyalty to each other. Will loves Jem, would do anything for him. He never stops believing there could be a cure for Jem’s illness and he is the one who gets the drug for him. Even though Will thinks he is cursed so that everyone he loves will die, he lets himself love Jem, as his greatest sin, because he can’t help loving him. They are parabatai, warriors closer than brothers and you can see that. Jem loves Will, no matter the horrible things he does and says to push people away. That’s brotherhood and love right there. Will also is the same way back, even though he can’t show it for most of the first and second books. Even though he is madly in love with Tessa, he toasts in happiness her engagement to Jem.

7. Buzz and Woody

2427135-2010_toy_story_3_001_big
Is there a better pair of best friends than Buzz and Woody? I honestly don’t think so. Sure, they’re toys. Not only are they fictional characters, but they aren’t even people or beings of a sort, they are TOYS. And yet they have one of the most real and beautiful friendships that we see in fictional worlds. The friendship starts off rocky, with neither one willing to become friends with the other, both of them thinking they are better than the other. But through out the trials and tribulations of making their way back to Andy’s house before they move, they realize they are more similar than they know and become the best of friends. Throughout the two following sequels, they fight, bicker, both trust and distrust each other and say goodbye to each other. They make fun of one another and help one another and they have a great, great friendship. Its what I would imagine a friendship between two guys to be and you kind want to be their friend too.

6. Legolas and Gimli

lotrelfs
Haha I picked this picture because its SO funny. I love the dynamic of Legolas and Gimli only because I kind of feel like its similar to that of C3PO and R2D2 (who, incidentally, do not make the list…if only because sometimes my patience wears thin on C3PO haha). Middle Earth is literally going to HELL and there are some serious things going down here: death, starvation, annhilation, sacrifice…this are some epic, epic stories. But you have the friendship of Legolas and Gimli, which is both completely endearing and touching, but also hilarious as hell. They are the comedic relief in the epic battles. While everything is going to shit, they are laughing and counting how many enemies they are taking down, in a contest. I can imagine that Gimli and Legolas stayed friends for years after the war. I can imagine both of them helping to create a less hostile relationship between the elves and the dwarves. They’re both so funny, and they remind us of the heart of the story. I do believe that the hobbits show a lot of the heart but I also think that of Legolas and Gimli. While they are obviously taking things so seriously and fighting hard, they remind us what it is that they are fighting for.

5. Sirius and Lupin

lupin_and_sirius_by_potterpreacher-d4g6zbr
For some reason, I actually kind of like this as a ship. Like…I totally ship Remus and Sirius. Wolfstar. That’s so weird haha. I mean, let’s make this clear, I love how everything turned out in the novels, and who ended up with who. I know all you Neville and Luna shippers were disappointed but I was okay with it. That being said, I totally ship Remus and Sirius outside of canon. But moving on, I think that these two make a great twosome, a great pair of friends. These two have lost so much, have been through so much. They’ve lost two of their best friends to death, James and Lily, and they lost a best friend to cowardice, Peter. Sirius has spend his entire life in prison for a crime that he never committed…right after hearing of the deaths of his friends. Remus has spent his entire life being judged for being a werewolf. And yet these are two of the strongest men in the book, some of the best teachers for Harry, and even though they’ve lost so much, they have each other, and it shows when they reunite. They are whats left of the Marauders and when they die too, they complete the circle.

4. Jace and Alec

Picture 5
I like the friendship between Jace and Alec for several reasons. One reason is that they are parabatai, just like Jem and Will, which makes them closer than brothers. But I also think they have such a great brother dynamic. Alec is the first child that Jace as ever seen in his life, when he comes to live with the Lightwoods, and they become best friends. Jace would do anything for Alec and vice versa but I also think they need each other. Alec is shy, sometimes lacking of courage. He is afraid of his own sexuality and he’s even afraid of killing demons, because he is so busy protecting Jace and Isabelle. But Alec is loving and caring and passionate. He is so true and pure, even if he doesn’t even believe in himself all the time. Jace, on the other hand, is so avoidant of emotions, of love, that he is overly confident and overly outgoing. He pushes people away, even those who just wish to be his family. Without each other, maybe Alec would have never had the courage to come out, accept his love for Magnus and tell the world. Maybe Jace wouldn’t have let his guard down and become brave instead of just reckless. I have them this high up because they are best friends, brothers, parabatai and they need each other.

3. Sherlock and Watson

sherlock-101-07924
Okay, I’m just going to say one thing first: when searching for a picture of John and Sherlock for this post, I had a hard time finding something that’s appropriate and that’s because people ship Johnlock like no other. I must admit, I kind of do too. For anyone who has never watched the show Sherlock, you need to. The first two seasons (which are 3 episodes each) are available on Netflix and the third season probably won’t be out for awhile. But its fantastic; and much, much better than the US version, Elementary. Trust me on this. Its so good and Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have excellent on screen chemistry. They need each other. John Watson is content to wallow in self pity, living a half life. Sherlock doesn’t have a whole lot of humanity in him, because he’s so busy showing off his intelligence all the time, using it to figure out impossible puzzles. Together, they make a great time. John gives Sherlock some humanity, though Sherlock still is kind a jerk. Sherlock gives John an exciting life, as part of their crime solving duo. They’re equals in a way; even though Sherlock can spout off some crazy information about a person or a situation, John can often times see a humanity behind, a reason behind it. I am dying for the third season to come so I can have some Johnlock again.

2. Han and Chewbacca

han-solo-chewbacca
What would Han Solo be without his Chewbacca, huh? Nothing, I tell you. Han Solo is a badass smuggler but he wouldn’t be half as intimidating if he didn’t have a 7 foot 3 wookiee by his side. If you know anything about their relationship, basially Han saved Chewbacca’s life and so Chewbacca owes him what you would call a life debt, and will serve him for his life. But I think its much more than that. I think that Chewbacca and Han Solo have a serious friendship. They copilot the Millenium Falcon together and go on crazy, dangerous smuggling runs together. Chewbacca is beyond upset when Han is frozen in carbonite and does some serious work (along with others, of course) to get him back from Jabba the Hutt. I think they make a good pair because they are an unlikely pair but it just works for them…especially since I’m pretty sure Han Solo is the only person who actually understands what the hell a wookiee is saying. “You said it, Chewie”. I’ve always wondered what exactly Chewbacca says when Han responds. I guess we’ll never know and that’s the beauty of the friendship.

1. Harry and Ron

article-0-02E3EAE700000578-58_468x453
Is there a better friendship between two guys than Harry and Ron? Don’t answer that; you all have strong opinions and I don’t want to hear it haha. I love the Potter universe above any and all other fandoms and that makes the bromance between Harry and Ron my absolute favorite. They need each other, just as much of the pairs before. Harry is THE Harry Potter and his entire life is laid out before him, and he has to be so serious at times. All the pressure is on him. Its opposite for Ron, he’s one of seven children, the youngest of the boys, and he’s more apt to make jokes than anything else. Ron is there to usher Harry into the wizarding world and to help loosen up, and be happy, even when it feels like it can’t be happy. Harry is there to help Ron believe in himself, to help him because the badass wizard that he can be. Even when they are pissing each other off, they always end up friends again: The Triwizard Tournament debacle, the Half Blood Prince drama, the separation in Deathly Hallows.

What do you think? Do I realllly want to ask? You guys are so opinionated! Haha! But I really do want to know so tell me your favorite bromances below!

My Top 11 Favorite Fictional Pairings

Today’s post is going to get a little corny. Why? One, sale because I’m in love and I have been for a very, information pills very long time and it makes me feel a little corny. And two, patient this is my blog so I’m pretty sure I’m allowed to do whatever I want.

So recently I finished the third novel in the Heros of Olympus series, Mark of Athena, and one of my favorite pairings in all the books that I’ve read is the Percabeth pairing: Percy and Annabeth. I waited allllll through the Olympians series for those to finally get together and when they did, I was so happy. And now that we’re seeing them as a couple in Mark of Athena….its the cutest thing in the entire world.

I mean, yeah, of course I read books because they are fun and adventurous and I like to be transported into a different world and because books make me think and they give me things to think about and they help me discover my own morals and values. I read for those and so many more reasons.

But, come on, you can’t sit here and tell me that you don’t read books and just wish and wish for so-and-so to finally fall in love with their one true love, so-and-so.

So, since I’m being corny and silly today, I’m going to talk about my favorite book pairings. Some of you will agree, some of you will look at me like I’m crazy person. I’ll repeat what I said earlier, my blog, my rules :D

11. Gemma and Kartik-A Great and Terrible Beauty

The biggest reason why I loved Gemma and Kartik’s relationship was the slow build up of it. Nothing happens until the third book in the series, The Sweet Far Thing. I love that they are from two totally different social circles-Gemma is an English girl, preparing for her debut into society while Kartik is an Indian boy, looking for his place in the world-and yet they fall in love and yet they work together to beat Circe and to create peace in the realms with the magic. They’re relationship is so sweet and every single time they kiss or hold hands or open up to each other, I was squealing all happily. Spoiler alert: right when they finally are together, they finally are going to be together and Kartik sacrifices himself for Gemma…I was dying. TEARS!

“Kartik puts his hands on either side of my face. “To each his own magic,” he says and kisses me again.”

10. Snow and Charming-Once Upon a Time

I love this relationship between Snow White and Prince Charming much better than the original stories or the Disney version (though I do like both! Don’t get me wrong!) One, Ginnifer Goodwin is badass as Snow and Josh Dallas is sexy as hell as Prince Charming. But the best part is, yeah Snow is a damsel in distress and needs the prince to save her. But the more and more you watch the show, you see how much Snow saves Charming as well. You see how much they love each other in the flashbacks in the enchanted forest and its so hard to watch their Maine counterparts, Mary Margaret and David, screwing up over and over. The best moment ever was when the curse was broken and they are finally brought back together. True love conquers all. Sigh.

“Let’s take back the kingdom like we should do all things…together.”

9. Katniss and Peeta-The Hunger Games

One of the biggest reasons that I love this pairing is because Katniss is such a badass and she fights this kind of emotion and affection over and over again. And she is mean as hell to Peeta, even when she is trying to save his life. Oh and Peeta, he is so sweet and he loves Katniss so much. No matter what she throws at him, he just takes it and continues to love her. And for someone who is pretty difficult herself (yeah, I said it), its like, hey, if Peeta can love Katniss even though she is one messed up girl, then a girl like me can be loved too (oh and believe I am).

“I just want to spend every possible minute of the rest of my life with you.”

8. Aly and Nawat-Trickster Series

Aly and Nawat also kind of remind of Katniss and Peeta, but instead of being kind of a bitch, Aly is a lot stronger and has a damn good reason for keeping her distance from Nawat. Nawat is a crow turned into a man and is sweet and loving toward Aly. And Aly has finally found a man who can keep up with her and keeps her interested, but she’s in the middle of a rebellion and she’s the rebellion spymaster. And once they really are together, it works in the best way possible because it’s at the best time for both of them, the right time.

“Nawat turned his head sideways and pressed his lips to Aly’s. His mouth was soft and warm, his breath lightly scented with spices, his smell clean, with hints of beeswax and wood oils from his work. Aly’s usually distant and observing mind focused completely on the feeling of his mouth against hers.”

7. Tessa and Will-Infernal Devices series

Okay, let’s just be clear on this: in the first Infernal Devices, Clockwork Angel, I hated William Herondale with a burning passion and I loathed that Tessa was already so in love with him. He was so mean, so incredibly cruel to her. Then in Clockwork Prince, when you learn that Will is cursed, and everyone who loves him will die, and that’s the reason he is so mean to Tessa, because he loves her so much that he can’t stand to see that happen to her. And suddenly, this girl was on Team Will. That is so insanely romantic and I just wanted Will to get that curse lifted so damn much so he could finally tell Tessa that he loved her. And then you find out he was never cursed and he runs to tell Tessa but its too late, she’s engaged to Jem and I just wanted to cry. I actually might have cried…all I gotta say is, Wlll and Tessa. Will Herondale. They better end up together. I have to wait til March to find out but they better.

“Don’t say that.” His voice was half a whisper. “I love you, Tessa. I love you.”

 6. The Doctor and Rose Tyler-Doctor Who

I know the Doctor is supposed to be free of this sort of thing, but hey, the 11th Doctor marries River Song so whatever. The 10th Doctor is made to be with Rose Tyler. They were meant to be together. They were on the same page the entire time they were together. They had the same humor and they made an amazing team. Majority of my favorite Who episodes have been with Rose and Ten. They have such an underlying romantic relationship, it builds slowly and they never are actually together. But its there, and you’re waiting, every single moment of an episode waiting for it to finally happen. Worst ending for a couple ever…stuck in two different universes.

The Doctor: “How long are you going to stay with me?”
Rose: “Forever.”

5. Princess Leia and Han Solo-Star Wars

I think everyone probably thought that Leia and Luke were going to end up together, you know, before the whole finding out they are brother and sister thing. It seems right. Luke is the hero, the future Jedi Knight and Princess Leia is the princess, the heroine. Han is the scoundrel, the bad boy. And the fact that the bad boy gets the girl is pretty awesome. Princess Leia isn’t exactly the damsel in distress: she can handle a blaster pretty well and she can handle pretty much anything that is thrown her way. If anyone is going to be able to handle Princess Leia, its Han Solo…and vice versa. Plus Harrison Ford is pretty hot.

“Princess Leia: I love you
Han Solo: I know”

4. Mia and Michael-The Princess Diaries series

I started reading this series when I was 13 years old, so I had some crazy weird ideas about relationships and love and all that crazy stuff. I was a bit too young to even be thinking about love, haha. But as I grew older, I started to appreciate Mia and Michael’s relationship more and more. And I wanted it to happen to me more and more. Mia is awkward, nerdy, a good friend, trying to figure stuff out, but freaking out and worrying during most of it. Her favorite thing in the world is writing too. She literally is me. It’s insane how much she is me…except for the whole 5’9 and no boobs thing. And Michael is nerdy too, and he’s smart as hell (can we say majoring in chemistry), tutors Mia in math, musically talented and sweet and ugh, I wanted him bad. So I adore their relationship…and I’ve learned to love it even more since dating my boyfriend. My boyfriend is nerdy, incredibly smart (majoring in math), helps me with my own math homework and is insanely musically talented :D

“Mia,” he said, looking down at me with his dark eyes filled with something I was almost afraid to put a name to, and his chest going all up and down like he’d just been runnin. His hands were in my hair. He was cradling my head. ‘You have to know. You have to know I lo-‘”

3. Percy and Annabeth-The Olympians/Heroes of Olympus

Oh Percy Jackson. I loved him from the moment I read about him. He is insanely loyal from the start, starting with Grover, and Annabeth, and his mother, and everyone in Camp Half-Blood, and then Camp Jupiter and so on. He’s a troublemaker and has that sarcastic wit, which makes him sexy as hell. Plus the whole dark hair, blue eyes thing (see: Jake Kennedy in my new novel). And there’s Annabeth, who is badass, and smart and wants to build amazing buildings and kicks ass. Put those two together, and you have an awesome, awesome couple.

“Afterward, I had the last laugh. I made an air bubble at the bottom of the lake. Our friends kept waiting for us to come up, but hey-when you’re the son of Poseidon, you don’t have to hurry. And it was pretty much the best underwater kiss of all time.”

2. Clary and Jace-The Mortal Instruments

I don’t know how much more I can tell you, my little followers, how much I love Jace Lightwood. He’s sexy as hell, and sarcastic and funny, in a dry way, and he fights so hard over and over again. And Clary, I want to hate her because I want Jace but I love her too. She is dramatic and all over the place and messy but she’s sixteen-years-old and she is supposed to be. But despite that, she does everything she can to save her mom, and save the Shadowhunters and the Downworlders. And she’s pretty badass with her rune-creating. I was pissed as hell when it came to light that they were brother and sister…and then it came out that they weren’t and they could be together and I was like HELL YES! Man, they were the most dramatic, most tumultous relationship but they were meant to be from the beginning. And some of the stuff that came out of Jace’s mouth just made me want to melt.

“There is no pretending,” Jace said, with absolute clarity. “I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I’ll love you then.”

1. Ron and Hermione-Harry Potter series

All right, all you Harry and Hermione shippers, you can shut up. I wanted Hermione and Ron from the beginning. Harry and Hermione seemed obvious: the Boy Who Lived and the smartest witch ever. There was way too much going on there. I just didn’t see that working out at all. But Ron…Ron is my favorite character in the HP universe and he’s so wonderful and funny and loyal but flawed just like any other normal person in the world. And he loves and adores Hermione but has no idea to tell her or go about it. I mean, isn’t this how we all felt at some point in time when talking to the one we love? He’s so relatable. And Hermione loves him back, no matter the flaws. I waited ten damn years for this to finally work out so I leapt for joy when it finally happened.

“There was a clatter as the basilisk fangs cascaded out of Hermione’s arms. Running at Ron, she flung them around his neck and kissed him full on the mouth. Ron threw away the fangs and broomstick he was holding and responded with such enthusiasm that he lifted Hermione off her feet.”

What do you all think of my list? Do you agree with some, disagree with others? Do you have some better pairings that maybe I didn’t think of? As always, let me know in the comments.
