Favorite and Least Favorite City of Heavenly Fire Moments! (Spoilers!)

8755785

I don’t really think I need to warn you but I’m going to do it anyway because I know people just don’t pay attention.

This entire post is literally spoilers for City of Heavenly Fire. If you havent’ finished the book, buy more about or don’t want to be spoiled, sildenafil please turn back now!

Okay, buy information pills jumping in. With both of my spoiler filled vlog and my spoiler free review here on the blog, I tried to be as vague as possible, to talk about as much as I could in a short amount of time and space. So I wasn’t really able to get into all my favorite and least favorite parts. That’s the purpose of this post, to share exactly what I loved and what I didn’t.

I hope you’ll share yours as well!

FAVORITE:

Isabelle’s Vision

When Jace, Clary, Alec, Isabelle and Simon enter into the demon realm to rescue Luke, Jocelyn, Magnus and Raphael, and find Sebastian, they are immediately stopped by a demon that force them to see sort of visions. Clary sees the family that she could have had: Jocelyn married to Luke, a real brother in Jonathan, a little sister. Alec sees himself as loved by everyone that he’s wanted to love him, to be appreciated and praised, and to be the person that is the center of attention. Isabelle’s is the most heartbreaking because its the one that you honestly wish was real. Its her birthday and Simon has thrown her a party, and at her party is Max. Max, frozen at 9 years old, when he died. And I lost it. I couldn’t stop crying. I was so heartbroken. Max’s death has been the most hard hitting in all six books for me, and it hurts when you know how much he is missed and how responsible Isabelle feels for his death. It was beautiful.

Simon’s Band Name

Simon’s memories have been taken from Magnus’ father, as payment for them returning to their world. Its heartbreaking (until you read the epilogue), but when you see the flyer for Simon’s band’s show…I just had this half laugh, half sob thing going on, because I thought it was SO funny and so awesome. His band name? The Mortal Instruments. It was too perfect. It’s been a fan theory for so long and its one of those things that I was actually kind of glad made it into the book.

Jace and Clary-Cave Scene

Um, can we say about time? I mean, I know, they’re like 17 years old, and that’s not exactly old or anything but we’ve all been hoping for some steamy Clace sex for six books now and I’m glad it finally happened and IN A CAVE. The first thing I thought of when they had sex in the cave was…did they really just have sex in a cave like the way Will and Tessa did in Clockwork Princess. Plus it was just beautiful. It was the right moment for it to happen. The world was falling apart around them, and they could die at any moment, and they truly love each other, and it was perfect. I could never write a scene like that, and that’s okay. My sex scenes are going to be a bit rougher, realistic, but Cassie’s are beautiful and I loved every detail of it.

Sebastian’s Redemption

I didn’t expect that, and while it was cheesy, I actually liked it. When Clary stabs Sebastian with the sword that contains the heavenly fire, and Sebastian momentarily becomes Jonathan Morgenstern, complete with green eyes. He expresses his grief, his wish that he hadn’t been born with the demon blood and his hope that there would be another dimension where he was the good son and brother. It was SO cheesy but I actually kind of liked it. It was sweet, and sad, and it was another blow of loss to Jocelyn and to Clary, of what could have been. It was both expected and unexpected and I enjoyed it.

Jem and Jace Talking For the First Time

I LOVED THIS. I had to stop and breathe in and out about this. I loved hearing Jem talk about his past, the people in his life, and all of that. If I had thought for even a moment that I was okay with the feels that Clockwork Princess had brought me, I was so very wrong. All the feelings from just the CP2 epilogue alone came rushing back, and it was beautiful to see him again. I loved his reuniting with Tessa and their appearance and Luke and Jocelyn’s wedding. Just all those feels from Clockwork Princess. I couldn’t handle it.

Maia’s Transformation

I was talking to a few people and they weren’t happy with the Maia thing in the book. I do admit, her relationship with Jordan was weird, especially since he died, and she appeared to be making something happening with Bat, but I was just proud of her as a character. Having the guts to take over the NY wolf pack, and to lead it, and to inform the Shadowhunters of the plans going down. I was really proud of her, and the way she stepped up and became a force to be reckoned with. I think Maia has always been sort of a background character but she really proved herself in this book and I honestly really loved it.

Jem Stealing Church

You don’t really need to go further than that. I honestly just couldn’t stop laughing. It was such perfection.

Clary and Jace Fighting Side by Side

I LOVE THIS. Before this, Clary and Jace had an inequality about them. Jace was an amazing Shadowhunter, Clary had her rune powers but there was always something kind of separating them in the Shadowhunter world. But watching them fight side by side, was just truly beautiful. I really felt like…its not about Jace protecting Clary physically or Clary using her powers to save Jace…they’re equals and fighting together and taking on the world together. They can protect each other. They recognize the strengths in each other and I think its awesome. There no angst, none of that struggle. They had finally reached a balance in their relationship and it was all about keeping themselves safe while taking Sebastian down.

Simon’s Sacrifice

I really liked this part, until the epilogue, which you’ll see later. By the time we had gotten to this part, I was kind of disappointed that no one had died. Again, see later. But when Simon steps up to sacrifice not only his immortality as a vampire, and his memories of everything of the shadow world, I was heartbroken. This, to me, was even worse than death. Simon had found his confidence in being part of that world. He would never remember his absolute best friend, Clary. He wouldn’t remember the girl he loved, Isabelle. That would be all gone. What a fate to fall upon one of the best characters in this series.

Anytime Emma is On the Page

OHMYGOD. I am absolutely adoring of Emma. I have been excited for so long for The Dark Artifices. This is the Shadowhunter world in Los Angeles, the place that I love. This is my home. Of course, I am so excited about it. But now after reading CoHF, I’m even more excited about it. We got to see so much of Emma, Julian and the Blackthorn children and so many hints at what to expect in TDA. I adore Emma. She’s a little spitfire and she’s going to be a great Shadowhunter and I want to see her climb rooftops again…haha. I can’t wait to see her grown up in TDA. I eagerly await it.

LEAST FAVORITE:

Lack of Deaths

Seriously? Who dies? WHO DIES? No one really. Jordan. Maureen. Amatis. Raphael. Andrew Blackthorn. Sebastian. All sad deaths, to be honest. Well, not Maureen. She was just insane. But none that hit me. None that made me feel heartbroken. I felt…like Cassie went way too safe with this ending. They were in the demons realms, there was Endarkened EVERYWHERE, and no one hugely important died? That bothered me. A really good author knows when to make a good sacrifice. Look at JK Rowling. Its war, and the deaths that she did: Sirius, Dumbledore, Mad-Eye, Fred, Tonks, Lupin, Colin Creevy, Hedwig. All important deaths that make cringe just typing them.

But Cassie went super safe and that made me sad. I wanted to feel the heartbreak, I wanted to feel the true loss of war. People lose friends, family members, lovers when there is war, and no one really had that. I honestly felt that Jocelyn, Luke, Jace, Clary, Alec, Magnus, Simon, Isabelle…one or two of those people should have died. It would have made the story that much better.

Simon’s Memories Coming Back

Which brings me back to Simon. I was feeling the disappointment in the lack of sacrifice in this book, when Simon decides to give up his memories and I almost felt like that was worse than death. Simon is one of the VERY first characters you meet, right after Clary. He’s important, and to have him lost to them, and have him lose all memories…it was heartbreaking. It was perfect. Then I read the epilogue, and I was disappointed again. I could see Simon having some memories buried deep, look what happened with Clary and her memories. But the idea of Simon ascending and suddenly remembering a good amount of Clary, Jace and Isabelle just kind of bothered me. It was TOO happy. It was a great sacrifice that was wasted by being wrapped up too quickly.

Magnus’ Dad

Did anyone expect way more than what he was? I expected this big scary guy that was mean, someone that Magnus didn’t want to claim himself to, someone that he was afraid of but it didn’t really turn out that way. He was just kind of silly, and Magnus seemed more annoyed with him than frightened. So that was a slight letdown.

Why The Mortal Instruments Series is Important to Me

Pre-warning: there are NO City of Heavenly Fire spoilers in this post!

****

This past Tuesday, shop May 27th was the day that City of Heavenly Fire hit bookshelves. It is the very last book of The Mortal Instruments series. While we are going to be in the world of Shadowhunters for years to come, sale what with The Dark Artifices and The Last Hours series coming to bookshelves, this series is the one that started it all. I will get to read more of Shadowhunters and the Shadow World but it was bittersweet to say goodbye to Clary, Jace and the rest in this series. If you haven’t had a chance, you can check out my spoiler free review here, or my spoiler filled vlog here.

I haven’t been this sad of a series ending since the day that I finished Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and that’s because I think the Mortal Instruments come in at a close second to the Harry Potter series, in what they mean to me and what they have done for me. The Mortal Instruments will NEVER touch Harry Potter for me, but Harry Potter has been in my life since I was 10 years old so…I highly doubt anything will ever be as important as that book series.

But the Mortal Instruments. I first picked up the books about four years ago. Four years ago, my life was….difficult. Not really hard. I have always been fairly lucky in the life that I’ve had, even during the hard times, even during the struggles. But four years ago, I went through something that was pretty hard for me. My boyfriend and I both went through something hard, and instead of turning to each other, we turned against each other. We stopped showing affection to each other, we were fighting all the time, it was awful. We broke up. And what was the worst about it was…I not only had the task of dealing with the heartbreak but no one understood, really, why it was more than just a normal heartbreak. I was dealing with so many emotions. My boyfriend had gone on tour with his band, so he was well distracted but I was at home, stuck in my own thoughts, miserable.

So what do I do when I’m miserable?

Head to a bookstore, of course. I went on a trip to Borders. (Oh Borders, how I miss you). I needed to get out of the house, I needed a distraction, to get out of my own head. Back then, I wasn’t a blogger so I wasn’t as involved with the book world as I am now. Now I go into a bookstore and I recognize so many titles that I despair that I can only purchase one or two. Back then, I had to rely on just looking on titles and things like that. I was wandering the Young adult section and the title “City of Bones” jumped out at me. I read the back, decided that I liked it well enough and purchased it. I went home that night, and dove into it for the first time.

The next time, I was at the bookstore and purchasing City of Ashes. I went back the VERY next day to purchase City of Glass. I read the snippet of Clockwork Angel at the end, and waiting eagerly for it to come out a couple months later. I waited patiently for the release of Fallen Angels the next year, and met her for the very first time. The speed in which this books came crashing into my life and stayed there permanently is incredible and it still kind of blows my mind. Only one book series had done that since then, and still not with the way that this series did.

I loved the story, I loved how it weaved the familiar world that we know with this beautiful fantasy world. I wanted to be a Shadowhunter. I love tattoos and the fact that they could bring you strength and agility and things like that blew my mind. I loved the weapons and the Institute. I loved Idris and this country tucked away from everything else. Everything about this world was fantastic to me. There was romance and action and lots of humor and sarcasm. I fell in love with all the characters.

But I especially fell in love with two.

First off, I love Alec Lightwood. The person that Alec Lightwood is…unsure and scared, afraid to be the person that he is, afraid to share the emotions buried deep within him…it all felt so familiar. He felt like the most real character in the books. I know people didn’t like him at first, because of the way he treated Clary, and the obsession he had with Jace but I thought he was real and raw and genuine. His story reached out to me and watching him grow and change over the course of six books.

And then there was Jace Wayland Morgenstern Herondale Lightwood, whatever you want to call him. I don’t know if I would have fallen in love with as much as I did as a fictional boyfriend and a fictional character if I wasn’t in the middle of a breakup with my boyfriend. But I loved everything about him. I loved that he was this badass warrior, and that he was raised to not believe in love and Clary was changing that in him, and that he said the sweetest things and that was also kind of crazy. Come on, let’s think about…going into Hunter’s Moon and picking fights with werewolves? That’s kind of crazy. He’s been one of my absolute favorite characters since then, and definitely my number one fictional crush.

But he was also kind of my escape, from the misery that I was feeling at the time. It made me think that boys could say still say cute things, even when they mess up, and I lost myself in the romance of Jace and Clary. It kept me sane. I devoured those books and they kept me from wallowing in even more misery that I already was. I wouldn’t say they saved my life, because I had never considered that my life was over, but they saved my emotions, my sanity, my well-being. I was a wreck and these books helped to put me back together.

And they still do that.

When I’m having a really bad time, a tough time, there are two book series that I turn to: Harry Potter and the Mortal Instruments. They both can make me feel better even on the darkest of days. Even when I feel the worst.

But the books did more than just be books that will sit on my shelves forever, and stories that I’ll dive into again and again. They inspire me to be a better write, they inspire me to write beautiful books. I want to write books that have characters that are loved like these, and have stories that are addicting and stories that make people cry the way I cried while reading City of Heavenly Fire. I am inspired every day by Cassandra Clare.

She also taught me so much about fear, about accepting your fears, in order to overcome them. This is a huge part of the first trilogy in this series. Clary’s fear of fitting into the Shadowhunter world. Isabelle’s fear of love. Jace’s fear of letting anyone. Valentine’s fear (and jealousy) of the Downworlders. Jocelyn’s fear for Clary’s safety. Alec’s fear for being himself. Simon’s fear of being left behind. SO much fear, but by the time we reach the end of City of Glass, they have either accepted those fears, are working on them or have conquered them. She shows us that we don’t need a Fearless rune to do this but that courage and bravery come from inside of us, to overcome those things that make us so afraid. This is why I have a fearless rune tattoo, to remind myself that I can strong enough and brave enough to over come anything.

They have also brought me into a world I never expected. I had been blogging for nearly a year when I met Cassandra Clare for the second time. I was able to interview her (you can check out that video here), and it opened a lot of doors for me as a blogger. Then I met her about three weeks later, at the Los Angeles Times Festival of Books, and put together a Shadowhunter meet-up, where I met some new friends, most importantly, my fangirl bestie, Sylvia from Fangirl Feeels.

Not only did her books bring me to some amazing friends BUT they in turn introduced me to a world bigger than the one I had known. I showed them the beauty of all the book events and they introduced me to movie premieres. Without that meetup, and meeting all those friends, I would have never even thought to go to premieres like City of Bones, Catching Fire, Vampire Academy and Divergent. These books have given me a community of friends all over the world. I’ve been messaging online and texting on my phone nonstop for the last 48+ hours about the release of City of Heavenly Fire, and I love this community and what it has given to me, and what I hope I have given back. I have met so many amazing friends because of it.

So some people think I’m crazy and some people probably look at me and think “its just a book”. But its so much more than that, so much more. I loved the finale of the series, though I admit I did have some beef with the ending, but whatever I feel for this book, it is so sad and bittersweet to see it end. I know that we will continue into the lives of Lucie and James Herondale in The Last Hours and the lives of Emma Carstairs and Julian Blackthorn in The Dark Artifices. I know that we have not yet left the Shadowhunter world but leaving behind the world of Clary, Jace, Alec, Magnus, Isabelle, Simon, Jocelyn, Luke, Maia, Jordan, and so many many more is heartbreaking. I will miss them and their romances and their antics and their adventures. Its hard to say good bye because of how much this series meant to me.

Tuesday Top Ten-Fictional Male Crushes

So this was one of my first blog posts way back in May of 2012, viagra 100mg when I first started my blog.

The reason that I’m doing it again is this: when I first started my blog, unhealthy I had about 15 followers, for sale that were mostly my friends and family, and most of my friends and family were just like, “Okay, Sara, we’ll follow your blog but we don’t really get it…” Now, I have a lot more followers, and I’ve met more girl bloggers and I’ve really expanded myself out there. More people are coming to WhatANerdGirlSays than before.

I’ve also had a HUGE increase in followers in the last few weeks because of the contest I just held and because I’ve been passing out my blog business cards. Which means a lot of people haven’t seen the other lists that I’ve made. And I know that my blog mostly attracts girls, nerd girls, fan girls, you know? This is a girl blog, though I do write for both genders, and one of my favorite parts of reading books and watching my shows and movies, is having that character crushes, both male and female.

This time, I’m going to be doing an updated, though not super changed, top ten of my favorite male crushes in fictional worlds. I’ll probably do an updated top ten of my favorite female crushes soon too. But I’ve decided to kind of update some of the older ones for you new followers to enjoy :)

I’m laughing a little while I write this because one of my biggest followers is my dad, and he loves reading the Tuesday Top Ten because its my more gender equal posts, and he’s always bugging me about that post, like he did today. I think he’ll be a bit disappointed in this.

But for the rest of you awesome people, enjoy!

Top Ten Fictional Male Crushes

10. Han Alister

I couldn’t find a photo for Han Alister, mostly because he’s a book character, and a book character that has not been made into a movie, so its near impossible. I also couldn’t find any fan art like I really liked. So Han doesn’t get a picture. Oh well. Han Alister is one of the main characters, besides Princess Raisa, in the Seven Realms trilogy by Cinda Williams Chima. Princess Raisa is the heir to her country, and determined to become a good queen, to be good to her people and help them, and to find a person who she can marry that will benefit the kingdom. Han is a former streetlord, suddenly discovering his magic powers and learning to harness them and fighting hard to make something of himself. Their stories intertwine as unrest both outside and inside the borders of the country threatens them both. What I like about Han is the sort of…confidence he has and the way he holds himself. He still has that confidence and easiness of a streetlord, that casual arrogance but he also has determination and ambition to BE someone, especially when he realizes how he feels for Raisa, and knows that his station doesn’t permit him to have her. I like ambition in a man :)

“So here’s the truth – I love you. I love everything about you – the way you stick up for people even when it costs you. The way you keep trying to do the right thing even when you’re not exactly sure what the right thing is. I love how you put words together. You’re as skilled with words as any knife fighter with a blade. You can put an enemy down on his back, or you can raise people up so they find what’s best in themselves. You’ve changed my life. You’ve given me the words I need to become whatever I want.”

9. Tony Stark/Ironman

tony_stark_iron_man_2-wallpaper-1600x900

So awhile back, I was watching TV and one of those entertainment shows, E.T. or whatever, did a piece on Robert Downey Jr, and all the drama he once went through and how everyone thought he was done and would never recover and whatnot. They showed a People magazine that was something like, Robert Downey Jr will never bounce back, or recover, or be important again, or something. Then they showed a People magazine that came out probably after Ironman, and they were like “Oops! We were Wrong!” And its so TRUE. Robert Downey Jr came back with a vengeance and the Ironman movies are my favorite to come out of this comic book character storm. One, they’re just great movies, and two, Tony Stark is an awesome character. He’s cocky and arrogant but wicked smart and honestly, I do believe he wants to save the day. I like him because he doesn’t have super powers, much like Bruce Wayne/Batman but instead of having just the heaps of money, he really does have the brains as well. He is seriously intelligent. And hot. So hot.

“All right. Yay. All right. Good job, guys. Let’s just not come in tomorrow. Let’s just take a day. Have you ever tried shawarma? There’s a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don’t know what it is, but I wanna try it.”

8. Sherlock Holmes

Benedict-Cumberbatch

I’m starting to see a trend in my crushes, and I’m only on #7. For those of you who don’t know, or are basically living under a rock, this is Benedict Cumberbatch (also appearing as the necromancer and Smaug in The Hobbit) as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC show, Sherlock. This is the show that inspired the American adapation, Elementary (because god forbid we come up with new ideas here haha). Anyway, it seriously must be his dashing good looks and charming British accent because Sherlock Holmes the character is kind of a jerk, and definitely arrogant. Not even a little bit, he most definitely is arrogant, and in the beginning, is almost lacking of humanity. He gets excited when there’s a serial killer because its interesting and gives him something to do with that big ‘ol brain of his. But I like that, as the show goes on, he gains more of his humanity, which I think comes a lot from his partner in crime, John Watson. He makes jokes and laughs, and cares. I mean, sure, he’s still Sherlock and he’s still a JERK but he gets better and I adore him.

Sitting on a couch in Buckingham Palace
John Watson: Are you wearing any pants?
Sherlock Holmes: …No.
John Watson: Okay.

7. Will Herondale

tumblr_static_-the-infernal-devices-clockwork-angel-cover-the-infernal-devices-10976341-804-692

Yeah, there’s a trend. There is so definitely a trend. William Herondale is one of the main characters in Cassandra Clare’s second Shadowhunter series, which takes place in the Victorian age and features people who may or may not be related to those in the Mortal Instruments, her original series. Will starts off as an asshole. Excuse the language, but he really is. He isn’t just mean, he’s cruel at times. He casually uses the drug that is KILLING his best friend, he treats Tessa like nothing more than a prostitute. He has harsh jokes and sometimes you are just like…how could this be happening? And he’s the first male character that you, and Tessa, meet and he’s abnormally handsome, with the dark hair and blue eyes and you’re hoping that this is the one for her and he’s just so mean. It gets better though in Clockwork Prince when you realize that he is under a curse, that everyone he loves will die and so he is cruel to them, to save them. Once he realizes that he was lied to, and has never been cursed, the real Will comes out and you realize what a loving, and caring and selfless person he is, especially in Clockwork Princess. And you feel sympathy for him…how hard would it be to convince people NOT to love you?

“Jem told me what Ragnor Fell said about my father,” Will said. “That for my father, there was only ever one woman he loved, and it was her for him, or nothing. You are that for me. I love you, and I will only ever love you until I die…”

6. Rhett Butler

rhett2

Rhett. Butler. Totally doesn’t fit this list in the slightest but is one of my absolute favorite male characters of all time. I can’t even remember how young I was the first time I watched this movie, and I read the book for the first time when I was 13, and have read it several times since then. Its one of my absolute favorite books of ALL time. I like Rhett Butler because, straight up, the guy has more guts than anyone in the entire book. Ashley Wilkes is all about honor and serving his country even if he doesn’t actually believe in what he’s fighting for. Charles Hamilton is just a big softie and was just not the match for Scarlett in the slightest. Frank Kennedy was smart but bland. There wasn’t much to him. The most amazing man in the book was Rhett. He had the intelligent and charisma and cleverness and slyness and all of it. He made his money, on his own after his family disowns him, and even if its not the “proper” way, he still does it. He does things for himself and I like that. He has ambition and guts. He doesn’t have his hand up in the clouds, he’s going to do what he has to do!

“Well, my dear, take heart. Some day, I will kiss you and you will like it. But not now, so I beg you not to be too impatient.”

5. Sirius Black

Sirius-Black-sirius-black-22405728-1156-1700

Even though I think Gary Oldman is sexy man, he’s not what I pictured as Sirius Black. I always pictured Sirius as a youngish, slightly arrogant and just funny as hell. (Damn, there goes my trend again…). Sirius is arrogant and he is immature. He never quite grows up from his popular days at Hogwarts and he never really gets over his childhood hate of Snape. But I still think that he is a really good person. So many people complain about his inconsistencies but people in general are inconsistent. And I think he was trying his very best to be a good godfather to Harry. He spent 12 years in Azkaban and he went in at a young age, only 21 or 22 years old and he came out as a middle aged adult but he never really got the time to truly grow up. He was beginning to grow up, in his time outside of prison. And he truly loved Lily, James and Lupin, and Harry. He was trying to do his best by them and it was admirable. And he was supposed to be good looking as hell and he had that cockiness and easy goingness, and he was a loyal, loyal friend.

“Then you should have died! Died rather than betray your friends, as we would have done for you!”

4. Michael Moscovitz

MM

Michael Moscovitz, I think, was one of my first fictional crushes. Definitely one of my first book crushes. I discovered The Princess Diaries and Meg Cabot when I was 12 years old. I loved Michael. He was the super good looking senior who fell in love with super awkward and geeky freshman, Mia, and it was like a dream to me. I was super awkward and gangly and shy in middle school and high school. Hell, I still am, minus the shy part. But I’ve always been geeky, with my head in my journal or a book and wrapped up in my fictional worlds and I always wished some good looking older guy would come out of nowhere and love me despite my awkwardness haha. But Michael is great. He’s hot, he’s smart as hell. He gets into Colombia, early admission, and invents a robot arm that assists in heart surgeries. He’s musical and in a band. He’s really really really good at math and helps Mia pass math, because she can write a good story but she couldn’t solve the quadratic formula if her life depended on it. He’s geeky and quotes Star Wars and Star Trek and loves Buffy and he’s awesome. He’s just awesome. And now that I’m 25 and its been over a decade since I first read these books…I get a kick out of the similarities between me and Mia and the similarities between Michael and my boyfriend Jon.

“Mia, I’m not sorry. And I’ll wait.
Love, Michael.”

3. The Doctor

images

I don’t see how a girl who loves Doctor Who could NOT have a crush on The Doctor. He can give you the entire universe. He offers you the most appealing deal in the history of all deals. He has a spaceship that can go anywhere in time and space. You can go to any time, any planet, any where. Wherever you want to go. And sure, every time you go somewhere, things inevitably go wrong, but his life is interesting and fast paced and different. Its so different from this “boring, monotonous” life. He’s hundresds of years old and he’s been everywhere and seen everything. He’s smart and funny and selfish and selfless at the same time. He’s always determined to save the day, but he always has fun while he’s at. And he cares SO much. The depth of his emotions and his caring is what makes him so real. He’s an alien, not even human and he’s older than any human can even begin to understand but its his emotions, and passion that give him his humanity. If The Doctor showed up on my doorstep, you bet I’d want to see the galaxy.

“Amy Pond, there’s something you better understand about me ’cause it’s important and one day your life may depend on it…I am definitely a mad man with a box.”

2. Han Solo

hansolo

My first fictional crush, easily. I was about seven years old when my little brother Joey broke his leg at 2 years old, so severely that he was in a full body cast. The kid was a toddler and couldn’t even move. It was just the saddest thing and as the eldest child, I’ve always kind of felt…a responsibility to take care of my five younger siblings. And the only thing my little brother ever wanted to do was watch Star Wars, the original trilogy…over and over and over again. As soon as one of the movies would be over, I’d press the rewind button on the VCR (wow, I feel old) and we’d watch it again. It became something we did together, and we’re both big Star Wars nerds now. And while so many other girls I’ve known have fallen for Luke (though, Mark Hamill did NOT age well), I was a Han Solo girl, through and through. He was the funnier one, the more handsome one and he was more confident than Luke was. Even though he was still trying to figure out things himself, he was confident and he found his way through it. And he was just plain funny. He always had some of the funnier lines in the movies…and he had the cocky attitude as well, its so irresistible.

Princess Leia: I love you
Han Solo: I know

1. Jace Wayland Morgenstern Herondale Lightwood

images-1

Its funny, a week ago, I would have put the picture of Jace on the cover of City of Lost Souls as the picture. I was happy with Jamie Campbell Bower, but not 100% convinced. After meeting him at WonderCon this past weekend, and seeing him in person, I’m convinced. Sure, he’ll never be my perfect Jace that I pictured in my head but he’s great and he’s going to be a perfect Jace. I found the Mortal Instruments in the summer of 2010 when my boyfriend and I broke up for a period of time and I was miserable and needed some serious distraction. I picked up these books, literally devoured them in a matter of a few days and fell in love with Jace Wayland (and many other names depending on the book). He was that guy that you didn’t want to like but couldn’t help but liking. He was cocky and super arrogant and had that sarcastic humor that you don’t want to find funny but its totally funny. And he’s so hot, so so hot. And exactly what I needed at the time, which is why he’s probably stuck with me. Its like Maia says in City of Ashes, “Some guys look at you like they want sex. Jace looks at you like you’ve already had sex, it was great, and now you’re just friends-even though you want more. Drives girls crazy.” So. True. And he says some of the sweetest things, once he lets his guard down, and lets people in. Once he loosens up a bit on the bad boy-ness and the cockiness, he is such a loyal friend to the Lightwoods, and so protective of Clary, and just brave as hell. Sigh.

There is no pretending,” Jace said with absolute clarity. “I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I’ll love you then.” -City of Glass

All right, well apparently I have a type: hot, sarcastic, cocky, arrogant, ambitious, bad boys or something haha. I like the boys who have that sexy arrogance and don’t give a crap attitude, but when you look, are totally sweethearts. Man, am I obvious haha.

What are some of YOUR favorite fictional crushes? As always, share in the comments!

Okay, I totally got to see this, in all its glory, on the gigantic screen at WonderCon, the volume so loud, your chair was vibrating, but I was still so very excited for the trailer to come out today. One, so I finally can talk to you all of YOU about it and two, so I can watch it over and over and over again :)

This is the first full length trailer that we’ve gotten for the movie. We’ve gotten the teaser trailer, which I loved, but this trailer…it just blows it out of the water.

The panel for Sony included City of Bones, Evil Dead and This is the End. Those that were there for the other panels seemed pretty annoyed at the City of Bones part. You could just tell that they thought we were Twilight fan girls, part two. After the trailer, however, a lot of those annoyed faces turn to ones that seemed pretty impressed.

So even if you aren’t a TMI fan, or a YA fan, or just don’t seem like you would like it, I urge you to watch the trailer below because they did some serious work with this trailer. It looks BADASS.

Here’s the trailer:

Seriously? How can you NOT be super excited about this? In the book, its told from Clary‘s point of view, in third person so you get a lot of her attraction and interaction with Jace Wayland. However, in the movie, you can see more of the other characters, which seems like it’ll be attractive to guys as well as girls.

I love that we finally see more of Aidan Turner as Luke, and especially Lena Headey as Jocelyn, Clary’s mother. We haven’t seen much, if anything, and it was awesome to finally see that.

I love that Alec is SO Alec. He has that dislike for Clary that he has in the books, and he expresses that to Jace and straight to Clary’s face.

I LOVE the demon, the Ravener demon that comes flying into the room after Clary. I was honestly worried about how the demons were going to look. Were they going to look cheesy or stupid or I don’t know. Those are the biggest CGI elements of the movie and honestly, that demon was scary as hell. Very SLIGHTLY bummed about Jace killing it instead of Clary but honestly, I was more stoked at how damn scary that demon was to care that much.

I like that we’ve seen more of the vampires and werewolves, SUPER awesome.

I LOVED the way that the demon blew the door off its hinges and flung Jocelyn across the room.

I love Eric‘s reaction to Clary, looking all hot in all that black leather.

Valentine! More Valentine, which was great. I’m glad we got to see more of him. I kind of wish he was all clean cut, and in his suit, not all…I don’t know, raggedy? But he still looks great.

Spoiler For those who haven’t read the book and don’t want it ruined: I also liked that they were setting up the Jace and Clary love story in the trailer, and obviously the movie. They show that cute little scene of them on the motorcycle, and the moment that they have in the greenhouse, and even just the way Alec reacts to Clary, and how he tells her off. And especially when he says “We need you. I need you.” It really sets it up well, or so I hope, for the huge shocker that they are brother and sister at the end of City of Bones.

My favorite part though had to be Simon, toward the end of the trailer, saying “The werewolves are here to save us. Never thought I’d say that.” One, it just made me crack up, and it was the first thing Cassie talked about after we watched it at WonderCon. And two, that line was so classicly SIMON. It was such a thing that Simon would say. I mean, after he finds out about Shadowhunters and demons, werewolves and vampires and all that, he says “That is SO cool”. So that part…it was just awesome.

So, I’m really, really super happy with the trailer. EXTREMELY happy. Any time a book that I love is made into a movie, I get extremely nervous, and sometimes it just doesn’t work out (cough cough Percy Jackson cough cough), so I’m really excited because this looks like its going to be a GREAT movie, and that’ll mean sequels which means CITY OF GLASS, which is my favorite TMI book.

I also see a lot of things from the book. I do see changes, but in the grand scheme of things, I see mostly things that make me feel like its going to be great. I don’t think I’ve ever felt so great after a trailer before, and I have confidence in this movie.

Now, we only 144 days until the movie release…

Three New City of Bones Stills!

Three more stills have been released through the MortalMovie instagram, ask the official Sony Pictures profile for the City of Bones movie adaptation hitting theaters August 23rd of this year.

I showed you Robert Sheehan as Simon Lewis and Jemima West as Isabelle Lightwood a few days ago and now I have a few more to share with you all:

photo

Monday’s still was a picture of Kevin Zegers, case from the Air Bud series, thumb Dawn of the Dead and Gossip Girl, as Alec Lightwood, the older brother of Isabelle Lightwood and the best friend of Jace Wayland. Alec also is the parabatai to Jace as well. Parabatai are a pair of warriors that are closer than brothers, bound together to fight and for the ultimate friendship. I think Kevin Zegers is adorable and he does have that dark hair and blue eyes. Not at all what I had pictured for Alec at all. I never pictured Alec to show his bare arms; sounds silly but Alec is so lacking in confidence in himself. He’s in love with Jace, he’s in love with Magnus but he can’t admit either and he can’t admit he’s gay. But I really like Kevin Zegers as Alec. Alec is my favorite character after Jace and this picture was definitely drool worthy.

photo-1

Yesterday the still released was of Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace Wayland. Honestly, I’m happy and accepting of the casting of Jamie as Jace. For a loooooooooooong time, I was not okay with it in the slightest. I was like, ugh, Jamie is SO not Jace. But I like Jamie and I think he’ll do a good job so this was a fun picture to see. I think the part of this picture that was the most exciting was that this was the first chance we really got to see what a seraph blade looked like. We got a super fast quick glimpse of it during the teaser trailer but it wasn’t enough, of course. Seeing this picture was awesome and I really want a seraph blade now. Its just so badass looking.

Picture 11

Today, we FINALLY got to see the super insanely sexy Godfrey Gao as Magnus Bane. Gao has not appeared in any trailers or anything. This is the first released picture of him as Magnus EVER. And they did not disappoint. I know a bunch of people who are disappointed because he isn’t super glittery, his hair isn’t all spiky and he isn’t wearing rainbow pants or neon blue tight pants. I get it. But he looks sexy as hell and as soon as I saw this picture, I felt extreme jealously that I was not Alec Lightwood, who totally gets to make out with this fine piece of warlock. I know a lot of people aren’t really that happy with this but I totally am. It may not be exactly what I pictured in the book but Gary Oldman wasn’t what I pictured for Sirius, or Jennifer Lawrence as Katniss Everdeen but they both ended up impressing me just like this picture is already impressing me. And not just because he’s totally hot…though most because he’s totally hot. Whew.

I’ll be keeping you updated as more stills are releaseds :)
