WonderCon Day Two Highlights-City of Bones Day!

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all having a good weekend!

As you all may know, buy information pills I’ve been hitting up WonderCon in Anaheim, patient California this weekend (thank goodness its so close to home!), and trying to keep you guys as updated as possible on the awesomeness that I’ve been experiencing.

Yesterday was a Harry Potter day, where I wore my Ravenclaw outfit, completely with blue and silver tutu, and manned the Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army table!

Today, was all about the Shadowhunters.

Today, I wore my Shadowhunters shirt, which you can see below:

The back said “Looking Better in Black Since 1234”. I covered my arms in runes, and  showed off my actual Fearless tattoo.

Because today was ALL about City of Bones.

There was a City of Bones panel today at WonderCon where Cassandra Clare, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lily Collins, and Kevin Zegers talked about the movie and the books.

Here’s our lovely author now:

Yeah, I know, I just saw her last Friday at the Mission Viejo library (read all about that here!) but I’m a stalker…I mean, a HUGE fan :)

And can I just say that…they seriously picked some attractive people to play the  characters in the books?

It was a SERIOUSLY fun panel. I am actually really proud to say I am part of this fandom, and not just because of how much I love the books and how much they’ve done for me, but for the mature and intelligent cast that we have collected. Jamie, Lily and Kevin are all fairly young and yet they have such poise and maturity and all of their responses dripped with intelligence. I am proud of the actors that were selected for these roles.

Lily was super sweet, and said that Clary has been her favorite role to play, and that she hopes this movie does well so they can make sequels (I HOPE SO!) because she enjoys the role so much. She also says its the role she’s grown so much with, that she became more of an adult while making the movie. She also mentioned again how she likes Magnus as a character, not only because of how fabulous he is, with all that glitter, but because he has such a back story and such a history.

Jamie and Kevin were just plain hilarious. Jamie was cracking jokes and calling Kevin sexy, and staring at himself in the video screens, saying that he was vain and liked to look at himself. You know, I’ve always expressed confidence in Jamie as Jace, but he wasn’t at all what I pictured and I’ve had some hard times wrapping my head around it but after this panel, I was 110% convinced. Jamie IS Jace. He had the right attitude, knowing that Jace is arrogant and snarky but also knowing that he has a vulnerability too.

And his chemistry with Kevin, who plays his parabatai (a pair of warriors closer than brothers), was fantastic, as they made jokes about how they couldn’t stand each other. AND when asked who their favorite character from the series was (besides the one they play), Kevin said “Well, I have to say Magnus, don’t I?” with a big smile on his face. Spoiler alert: Alec and Magnus are the best couple in the books.

I think Jamie’s response was the best though. He talked about Isabelle and how BADASS and strong she is, and then he said, “You know, I just really like my sister. In the books.” Of course, he was referring to his adopted sister, Isabelle, but the irony of the brother-sister-incestuous relationship between Clary and Jace that comes up in the books made all the fans laugh. It was just too funny to handle.

Another awesome highlight from the panel was one of the fans that came up to the microphone for the Q and A part of the event introduced her baby to them, and her baby’s name was Jace. I LOVE it, even though I totally want to do it. And I can! Jace comes from Jonathan Christopher—>J.C.——>Jace. My boyfriend’s name is Jonathan and his brother’s name is Christopher. It totally works.

Okay, moving on…

Then afterwards, they had their meet and greet. It WAS a limited thing, and you had to go earlier in the day to try and get a wristband or ticket for the event. Luckily, I had gotten my way into the front of the line meet and greet and was able to meet them without that hassle. yay! I hate lines!

They were all SUPER fabulous to meet and really awesome, and so good looking that it was hard to get a sentence out without tripping over my words. They signed a poster and a book for me, and it was just super cool. I was excited to meet Cassie again, and VERY excited to get a chance to meet some of the cast.

Here are the awesome things I got signed.

A GINORMOUS City of Bones poster that was just too big to take a picture of the whole thing:

Lily and Kevin’s signatures. Kevin’s is so LIGHT in the picture but it comes up well on the poster!

And also the City of Bones book they signed:

Kevin Zegers had to be cool and have his own page! Haha.

They also released two NEW posters today too, featuring Lily and Jamie:

I also went to another panel today, one that talked about LGBTQ subtext in comics and fantasy. We all know that I feel strongly in this subject and my friend Erin told me about the panel after we’d stalked Cassie Clare, so we went to check it out. The guests included Jane Espenson (Buffy, Angel, Once Upon a Time), Brad Bell (Husbands), and Wendy Pini (ElfQuest), among others.

It was really interesting, especially because of the way that I feel about this subject and because I’m sensitive to those relationships in books and movies, or when there is subtext or subtle clues to same-sex relationships. It wasn’t a panel I had planned on attending but it was one that I ended up really, really enjoying. It also made me REALLY want to watch Husbands, which both Brad Bell and Jane  Espenson worked on.

All in all, a TRULY awesome day, I am super tired, which is normal for a convention weekend but I am REALLY excited about tomorrow, for the last day of the convention. I want to see The Spotlight on Jane Espenson and Brad Bell, especially after today’s panel and I really want to go to a panel that talks about writing for tweens and teens, which is what my main focus is in novel writing.

Its been a GREAT weekend and I can’t wait to continue it.

What have been some of your favorite parts of WonderCon?

Also, don’t forget! I still have an AUTOGRAPHED copy of CLOCKWORK PRINCESS up for grabs. Click HERE to find out how to win it; the last day to enter is April 1st!

Newly Released Clockwork Princess Snippet

Clockwork Princess, check the third and final installment in Cassandra Clare’s Infernal Devices series, try will come out in bookstores in March of this coming year. The Infernal Devices series takes place about a hundred years before the Mortal Instruments series (though TMI came out first) and follows the story of Tessa, a Downworlder, and her friends Will and Jem, both Shadowhunters.

I’ve been counting down the days until this book comes out, especially since the original publication date was for this December and then was postponed until March. Bit of a letdown if you ask me.

Cassandra Clare has recently said that she has some secret that she wants to reveal to her fans. Honestly, I don’t follow it that much but apparently it had TMI and ID fans in an uproar.

I love TMI and I love ID and I think Cassandra Clare is a fun and entertaining authors and I obviously enjoy the books well enough to get a tattoo of a Shadowhunter rune on my back. But I don’t personally love her. She is supposedly really, really accessible to her fans but I’ve written and emailed and sent her messages on facebook and twitter and tumblr and I’ve never once got even a wisp of reply so I don’t pay attention TOO much to what goes on in her social networking world.

However, today she shared a little snippet from Clockwork Princess and here it is for you:

Picture 1

Here’s my thing: Clockwork Princess is going to have a lot going down in the Shadowhunter world and all that. But it is also going to have a lot going down with the fact that Tessa has two boys, Jem and Will, fighting over her. However, when we left off the last book, she was engaged to Jem right before Will declared his undying love to her.

To make it clear, I am for Will. I think Will loves Tessa more than Jem does. I think Jem loves Tessa but not to the extent that Will does. Will so believed that he was cursed to have everyone who loved him die that he did the best he could to make it so she hated him. I think Will deserves to be with Tessa.

But here’s the thing. Tessa is engaged to Jem, and this is the Victorian age, so you can’t just let that go. And Jem is sick, really sick and he probably doesn’t have much longer to live. I think some fans will be mad if Tessa stays with Jem, because of Will’s intense love for Tessa. But I think a lot of fans, including myself, will be pretty pissed if Tessa gets with Will, either while Jem is alive or dead, because let’s face it…that’s messed up. Big time.

So my hope is that the choice that Tessa makes is of no choice. I think the focus of Clockwork Princess should be on the defeat of Mortmain and figuring out exactly what Tessa is and more about her past. Is she a full warlock, is she half Shadowhunter, who are her real parents, and over and over and over again. There are so many unanswered questions and yeah, Mortmain is a psycho and she needs to take him down. I think bouncing back and forth between Will and Jem is completely unnessary.

And let’s face it, most teen girls in TV shows and movies and books spend most of their time whining over what boy to choose and its gets so annoying…the ugly, annoying love triangle. I think that if Tessa chooses no one, that’ll be good for the audience. I think most of the audience would be pretty pissed but I think it makes sense. No one gets hurt, no one gets chosen and Tessa does the mature thing, as to not hurt either boy. Besides, she’s immortal, she’s going to live forever, and neither Will nor Jem will. No choice to me makes sense.

What do you think?

And Then I Got Another Tattoo…

Yes. Oh, buy yes. I went there guys. I definitely went there.

I got my sixth nerd tattoo. I so went there. I have 4 Harry Potter tattoos (one of them is half HP and half Something Corporate) and a Star Wars tattoo.

And today, see I got my sixth tattoo.

I got my Mortal Instruments tattoo today. I got my Shadowhunter rune, order Fearless.

Thats me! With my new tattoo!

And there is a close up.

I am insanely happy with it. I had an appointment today to get my tattoo and it worked out perfectly, because I was having a terrible day. This cheered me up immensely. It looks freakin fantastic, didn’t hurt at all and was fairly reasonable priced. If you live in Southern California, I truly recommend Bob at Above All Tattoo in Fullerton. Amazing job and a super cool guy.

Some of you might be wondering, what the hell is that anyway? So you all know how obsessed I am with Cassandra Clare and her Mortal Instruments/Infernal Devices series. The series focuses on a group of warriors called Shadowhunters. They are humans, with angel blood, who fight demons and keep the peace between warlocks, fae, werewolves and vampires.

Now they use a variety of weapons to accomplish it: daggers, seraph blades, whips, bow and arrows, etc. But they also have these object called a stele: a wand like object that draws both permanent and temporary Runes…black tattoos that give Shadowhunters various “powers”…they can give them strength or stealth or silence or they can open things, etc.

I chose the Fearless rune to tattoo on my body. The superficial reason is that its one of the best looking ones.

But the real reason I got this tattoo (besides my LOVE for this author and her series) was that I would love to be fearless.

Two of my tattoos, my Harry Potter tattoos, have to do with death: Deathly Hallows symbol and “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death”. I did these because I’m terrifed of death and I want to be unafraid of it, the way Harry and his parents were. They greeted death, they didn’t try to cheat death, like Voldemort and I think that’s something that’s extremely admirable. Death scares me more than anything.

But I’m also scared of so much else. I’m scared of my future, I’m scared of bugs, I’m scared of heights, I’m scared meeting new people and I’m scared of the dark. I’m kind of an anxious and scared person. And I don’t want to be that kind of person. Over the last year, I’ve definitely tried to change that. I’m trying to overcome my fears and become a better person. i don’t want my fears to hold me back from experiencing and loving life.

So that is why I chose the Fearless rune tattoo. I want it to be a sort of reminder that fear is temporary and that you can overcome it. I can never be completely fearless…but I can begin to overcome these fears, and tackle them and handle them. And the Fearless rune, while temporary for Jace and Alec in the books, gives both of them the courage to overcome their fears. Alec eventually realizes that he can come out as gay and he can be honest about his relationship with Magnus. Jace can overcome his fear of showing love for others, not only just his romantic love for Clary, but also his family love for the Lightwoods. And it gives me the courage to overcome my own fears.

And damn it looks so badass!

If you haven’t had a chance to see my tattoos or some of my friends’ awesome nerd tattoos, check out this blog post here.

And feel free to share your nerd ink with me. I’m always down to do another post about some epic nerd ink!
