Tuesday Top Ten-Top Fictional Families

So I gotta give credit where credit is due: my dad totally came up with this week’s Tuesday Top Ten, prescription again. I am seriously running out of ideas. Well, mind I guess that’s not true. I always have ideas but they are usually book related. I am trying to do my best to expand myself into movies and TV shows and all of that, and the best way to start is through the Tuesday Top Ten.

So here ya go everyone. Here is the Tuesday Top Ten, where I share all the fictional families that I think it’d be pretty cool to be a part of!

10. The Bennetts-Pride and Prejudice

bennet-family

Okay, there’s a huge part of me that’s like, do I really want to have FIVE sisters? I already have two sisters who, yes I love, but they drive me absolutely bonkers! We fight over clothes and make-up and who gets time in the bathroom and all kinds of fun stuff like that. Do I really want to deal with Jane, Elizabeth, Lydia, Mary and Kitty Bennett? And the answer to that question is: HELL YES! I LOVE the Bennett family, I absolutely adore them! I love that no matter how crazy life gets, and it gets CRAZY, they love each other so much. Jane and Elizabeth are really the only normal ones. Lydia and Kitty are just silly as hell, and fairly stupid at times too, Mary is a serious introvert, Mr. Bennett is social awkward and Mrs. Bennett is just NUTS. But they make for a realistic and fun family, and it all ends happily in the end and I just absolutely adore them. I’d be a Bennett, for sure!

9. The McFlys-Back to the Future

tumblr_lh6a2i42xc1qgl8g0o1_500

I’m not going to lie, there is a HUGE part of me that wants to be part of the McFlys because their last name is seriously cool. I have no idea why I think that, but I would totally be down to be Sara McFly. And maybe if I was a McFly, my cool older brother Marty would totally take me on cool time traveling adventures, and I’d totally get to see him save our parents marriage, and make it THAT much better. I don’t know, I just always liked how they were a loving family, and that even though Marty going back in time changed some stuff, they still remained a super loving family, and I love how at the end, George Sr is a badass dad, and Lorraine is super hot mom, and for some reason, Marty’s brother works in an office but still lives at home, and its just awesome.

8. The Stark Family-The Song of Ice and Fire

stark-family

Okay, this is totally not the best family in the world to want to be part of. For one thing, pretty much everyone in this family either dies or gets into a seriously precarious situation. Also, if I was a Stark, I couldn’t really make out with Jon Snow, because even though he’s a bastard, he’s still technically your brother by blood. Sigh. But seriously, I love fantasy novels like this, and I think the idea of living in a castle, with holdings and both learning to be a lady and learning to use various weapons would be awesome. I think the Starks are a great family, you know, before everything goes to hell. I think they all love each other, and they support each other, and they have such good values, and I think Ned and Cat take care of their children. And okay, all the Starks, including the unofficial one, Jon Snow, get these super awesome direwolves! I want a direwolf! They are so cute when they’re little pups and they grow up and they are connected with each kid, like Ghost is to Jon. I just love it. I can’t handle it. I would be  a Stark.

7. The Bluth Family-Arrested Development

Bluth_Family_white

I seriously thought about saying, look at this amazing family portrait. Really, this picture says it all. But I’ll write a little more because that’s unfair. I love the show, Arrested Development (thanks baby!) and I love that theme boils down to family, family, family but its done in SUCH a hilarious way. There is hardly a moment while you are watching this show and watching this family interact that you don’t laugh. They are literally the most ridiculous family to ever exist. The criminal father. The drunk mother. The kind of stupid magician brother. The naive, shopaholic sister. The even more naive, probably gay brother-in-law. The cousins in love. Its just a laugh factory the entire ride, and its never a dull moment. I swear that’s why Michael Bluth sticks around, just to be a part of the hilarity of his family.

6. The Baggins-The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings

frodo-baggit

I want to be a Hobbit! I’m already short as it is, and okay, I don’t have hairy feet because that’s just gross but I would make a seriously awesome Hobbit. I love to eat and I love to have a good time, and I would seriously love to go on adventures like Bilbo and Frodo do. I have the adventurous spirit in me, which means I’m already fit to be a Baggins. I mean, obviously, the Baggins have the BEST life, or at least these two do. And okay, Frodo has the most ridiculous burden as the Ringbearer and its not easy, and Bilbo almost gets killed by pretty much every creature possible in Middle Earth while helping Thorin and company, but come on, ADVENTURE! Plus, they have super cool friends (Thorin, the dwarfs, Gandalf, Merry, Pippin, Sam, Aragorn, Legolas, Gimli…) and they live in little hobbit holes. I seriously think hobbit holes are one of the COOLEST houses to exist in fictional world. No lie. I want one. I would love to live at Bag End.

5. The Skywalkers-Star Wars Saga

The-Skywalkers-the-skywalker-family-33851372-600-825

I couldn’t find a good picture of the Skywalkers, because let’s face it, they aren’t exactly the happiest family in the world and then I found this picture, couldn’t stop laughing and voila! There ya go! I don’t think I’d want to be really part of the family that is here, but I would like to be a Skywalker. Look, they are seriously badass and powerful, and they are capable of so much. Anakin/Darth Vader and Luke Skywalker are both trained late as Jedis and are incredibly powerful as Jedis. And my girl, my best girl, Princess Leia, who I wanted to be for so much of my life, is a Skywalker, and if you’ve read the books, she gets even MORE awesome. If you were going to be a Jedi Knight, and be part of that world, the Skywalkers are TOTALLY the way to go. Plus their last name is also really awesome too. Sara Skywalker :) I like the ring to it.

4. The O’Haras-Gone with the Wind

carreen plaid movie

I am so down to be an O’Hara, mostly because I totally want Scarlett as a sister and Gerald as a dad. I love both of them because of the Irish streak to their nature. While Ellen, Suellen and Careen all stick to being good Southern ladies, the honor and pageantry of the South doesn’t quite time the fiery father and daughter and I love that. They are my two favorite characters in the novel, plus Rhett Butler. I love that they try to blend in, and they manage to be a part of it but they aren’t ever full integrated into that lifestyle. They’re all ambitious and fiery and wonderful. Plus they live at Tara, which is so beautiful, too beautiful for anyone to handle, and I love those dresses. Scarlett’s dress at the Twelve Oaks barbecue…I love it so much. I would love to be part of that family to be part of that Southern culture, and to wear those pretty dresses, and go to parties where you could dance and all of that. I love it.

3. The One-Hundred Acre Woods Family-Winnie the Pooh

2

Winnie the Pooh is one of the most amazing animated features ever. I have a ridiculous obsession with Winnie the Pooh and I would seriously love to live in the 100 Hundred Acre Woods, where I could have adventures with the awesome stuffed animals that live there. I would feel bad for Christopher Robin though, because no lie, I would so try to replace him. I would be like, these animals love more now Christopher, what you going to do about that?

Wow, I’m kind of evil. But seriously, I loved these movies as a kid and I super love them now, and I loved the new movie they released in 2011, and I would love to have Winnie the Pooh in my life. I know they aren’t a technical family but they are :) They love and support one another, and put up with each other’s flaws and come on, Winnie the Pooh is awesome. His lack of a big brain makes for some silly and lovable moments. I want my own little Pooh Bear.

2. The Lightwoods-The Mortal Instruments/The Infernal Devices

tumblr_mnw5trxATL1rgbg31o1_500

The only problem with being part of the Lightwood family would be that I couldn’t date Alec or Isabelle. But then I couldn’t do that anyway because Izzy is perfect with Simon and Alec is gay. And I can still have Jace…even though I think of him as a Lightwood, too. Well, damn. Haha. I want to be a Lightwood because I think they are the MOST badass family in the Shadowhunter world. Gabriel and Gideon Lightwood in the Infernal Devices and Maryse, Max (cries), Alec, Isabelle, Jace…they are all such badass Shadowhunters and I want to be part of that family. Plus there symbol is fire (still working on getting a Lightwood ring from Vivi Hebel’s Hebel Designs!) I want to be a Shadowhunter so badly and I admire all the Lightwoods so much so if there was a Shadowhunter family that I’d be a part of, it would be the Lightwoods. The Herondales are a close second but always, always the Lightwoods. Then I could live in the New York Institute :)

1. The Weasleys-Harry Potter series

weasleys-harry-potter-9922787-1024-576

My dad and brother say that I’m totally biased in my Top Ten Lists because I usually choose Harry Potter in some form for number one. Well, Harry Potter is my number one fandom, easily. There’s a reason why I have four tattoos. So of course they’re going to end up in the number one spot most of the time. And here’s the thing. I love the Weasleys. I love that they love each other and they are so close, and they do so much together, and for each other. But I think it just reminds me of my own family. No matter how much money the family has, and like the Weasleys, we’ve never had a lot, they are still able to be so happy together. Sure, money can be a sore issue but they have each other and they have crazy adventures and they drive each other insane, and basically sleep on top of each other, and its just awesome. Its my family; we only have one less kid than the Weasleys. Plus, if I was a Weasley, I would be able to live in the Burrow, which is the coolest house in the world.

What are some of YOUR favorite fictional families? I can’t wait to hear, so share them in the comments!

Tuesday Top Ten-Favorite YA Female Characters

So I’ve totally already done this Tuesday Top Ten before, information pills but it was kind of my favorite one to do (besides maybe my favorite fictional boy crushes) because there’s SUCH an outpouring of strong, amazing, kickass, well developed awesome female characters out there and I want to be able to share the ones that I like so much with all of you.

I also did this list way back in November and I had probably, hmmm, like five followers back then, which included my dad and my boyfriend and maybe a few friends. Now I have nearly 1000 followers and so I want to write it again, so all my new followers can now see this :)

So here we go! My top ten (err…eleven) favorite female characters in young adult literature!

*

11. Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games

The Hunger Games: The Official Illustrated Movie Companion

Katniss is a badass, and she’s one of the first characters that comes to mind when you have strong female characters of YA, especially with the immense success of the Hunger Games movie and Catching FIre hitting theaters this fall. I like Katniss a lot, but mostly from the first book, not so much the next two. My personal opinion is that she gets a little whiny toward the end. Again, thats my personal opinion. But I do think she’s a great character. She’s a girl that doesn’t give up, even though most 12 year olds probably would. Instead of crawling into a hole, and letting her family starve or letting her and Prim be taken away, she figures out a way to survive and hunts, and trades and does whatever she can to help her family survive. And these skills that she learns for survival are the KEY to her survival in the Hunger Games. She’s extremely clever and she’s very caring as well, for her family, and for the people that come into her life like Peeta and Haymitch and Cinna and even Effie. She’s a GREAT character and Jennifer Lawrence is a great actress to play her.

10. Tessa Gray from The Infernal Devices

Picture 12

I love Tessa Gray because of her bravery, her resilience, her cleverness and the fact that she loves books so much. I love that Tessa Gray only wants to do the best that she can and that she cares SO much. The thing about Tessa is that she is unique, in so many different ways. First off, she’s an American in London. Then she’s amongst a bunch of Shadowhunters, which she is not. Then she’s not even sure what she is: possible a warlock, but without a warlock’s mark and no explanation of what she is. The Infernal Devices trilogy is not only the story of the London Institute and the Shadowhunters attempting to defeat Mortmain and his revenge plan but its also about the journey that Tessa takes in discovering herself and who she is and what she is and what her purpose is. I love that she loves with all of her heart and she loves her brother, even though he isn’t what she thought he was, and she loves the people she meets through the London Institute. I love that she loves both Will and Jem, and not in a whiny Bella Swan kind of way but in such a real, genuine way, the way people love in real life.

9. Luna Lovegood from Harry Potter series

url

J.K. Rowling once said about Luna Lovegood that she has an unbelievably rare quality of a person who just doesn’t give a damn about what people think about her and for that, she’s on my list. Because let’s face it, no matter what we say, no matter how much we profess it, we all care at least a little bit what people think of us. That or, we care what CERTAIN people think of us. Luna has the quality of being an absolute badass because she’s so sure of herself. She is teased and bullied, and people mess with her and think she’s weird but she doesn’t even notice. She’s so happy in her own world and I, for one, envy her for that. But she’s also a seriously loving and caring and brave person. When she finally makes friends, she is so good to them, and she is a pivotal character in my opinion. I don’t think the Harry Potter series would have been right without her in it, and there’s a reason why everyone calls me Luna <3

8. June Iparis from the Legend trilogy

url-3

Okay, June is an absolute badass, and honestly, I think she’s one of the strongest female characters I have read in a novel, especially in the overflow of young adult lit that is going on right now. I was amazed at June’s…tenacity and her fire and her strength. I was discussing June with someone online once and they said she was cold, she didn’t have a personality, that she wasn’t as easy to like as some of the other heroines that are out there, and that’s exactly why I like her. She’s different. She’s trained as a soldier and thinks like a soldier and has a hard time breaking that habit, even when things start stacking up against everything she ever knew. Its hard for her to be as trusting of people, especially someone like Day, who she is told over and over again is a criminal. I think she’s very human, and I love how her feelings for Day are always in question, always a work in progress. I like that there’s a love story in this novel, but not the kind that takes over the story. I love June because she has a head on her shoulders, and she uses it before she falls in love. I love how smart she is, and how reluctant she is to accept the truth…because she wants to know its the real truth before she believes it. She’s such a great character.

7. Tris Prior from the Divergent trilogy

url-4

I think one of the biggest reasons that I love Tris is because she’s so little, and people don’t really believe in her because of that, and she proves them all wrong. She’s the tiny, little, divergent (read: normal) girl, who takes a chance, leaves her parents behind for a different faction, a faction so vastly different than the one she was raised in and just…just rocks it. I mean, sure, not at first. She’s weak, scared, shy. But she does all the work she needs to do to not only become part of the Dauntless faction, but to be number one in the initiates. I love that. I love that she’s been taught so much about the act of being silent, being selfless, lacking of affectionate and all of that sort of thing, but when she comes to Dauntless, everything she does is so real, and so genuine. She makes friends because she is so genuine. And Four falls in love with her because of that, and that’s just too darn cute for life. I am jealous for Tris and her relationship with Four, because…well he’s Four, and do you see the picture above? Theo James is QUITE the looker. But in all seriousness, I admire Tris for her bravery, her cleverness, her selfishness and selflessness, and her never ending drive.

6. Clary Fray from The Mortal Instruments

url-1

I know that most of you know how addicted I am to the  Mortal Instruments series, and I’m sure you’re wondering why on earth the main character would not even be in the top 5, and there are reasons for that, and I totally have a TMI character in the Top 5. So hush. I love Clary, I super adore her. I enjoy watching as she takes the journey from normal teenager girl, to a budding Shadowhunter. I love that she’s brave and fearless, and she wants to save everyone: her mom, Simon, Jace, everyone. I love that the Shadowhunter world is SO confusing to her, but she goes with it, and she adapts quickly and that, I don’t know, she sort of grows into what is her natural heritage. She was born to be a Shadowhunter, even though her mom held that away from her for so long. I think the biggest reason why I love Clary is because of her loyalty. She is SO incredibly loyal and loving to the people she cares about: her mom, Luke, Simon. And when she meets the Lightwoods and Jace and Maia and Magnus, she cares for all of them as well. She just can’t help but care, and her caring is what makes her so brave.

5. Alina Starkov from The Grisha Trilogy

url-5

Alina is one of the most interesting characters that I have read in awhile. One, because she’s incredibly powerful…more powerful than pretty much every single person that she knows. And at first, she strays away from that power and is reluctant to use, reluctant to get any stronger. But as the story goes on, she almost begins to crave that power. She begins to grow addicted to it, and she feeds off of it. I think so many times we see characters that are so inherently good all the time, so good even when they make mistakes or make wrong decisions but Alina kind of represents a different sort of heroine. I think that we see Alina struggle more than any other character, because power is a dangerous thing. I don’t think that Alina is evil or a bad person, but that all depends on what happens in the final book of the series. We leave off, with all these people believing she’s a saint, a savior, and with her on a crazy, impossible quest to track down ways to make herself more powerful. This is incredibly dangerous and makes Alina a very complex, and addicting character. I just keep wanting to read and find out what happens next.

4. Alianne Cooper from The Tricksters Series

Picture 2

One of the strongest female characters that I’ve seen in the young adult genre, and just one of many that Tamora Pierce has created in her Tortall world: Alanna, Thayet, Buri, Daine, Maura, Keladry, and so so so many more. But when it comes down to it, Aly is easily my favorite and I think a lot of that comes down to that she was the first Tortall woman that I met, and she ushered me into a book series, and a book saga, that would seriously change my life. Aly is a sixteen year old girl with the kind of skills I could only dream of having at twenty-five years old. She’s incredibly clever, and has the knowledge and abilities to become a spymaster for a massive rebellion and be incredibly good at it. She knows about spying, and codes, and the sneakiness that comes with it. She knows about war and the way it goes, the way its run. She knows politics and crops and government and trade, social and culture, she’s just so incredibly smart. She can wield daggers and has wicked hand-to-hand combat skills. She’s quick on the spot, and can turn a lie in an instant. She’s charming and funny and relatable. She’s amazing, and one of the characters I always, ALWAYS bring up when talking about young adult literature.

3. Isabelle Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments series

url-1

Can I say that if this was favorite female CRUSHES, it would be Isabelle at number one, easily? One, Jemima West is absolutely gorgeous and I can’t wait to see her as Isabelle in the movie this summer. But I like Isabelle because she’s the badass of the books. She is one of the best Shadowhunters there is, gender aside. She has her awesome gold whip, and she takes down demons and fights with Jace and Alec. I also love her humor, her personality. She always has a smile on her face; she’s always finding a way to joke through things, and laugh her way around, even when everyone else is so down. She’s a fierce, strong character and I think sometimes is overlooked but she’s one of my absolute favorites. Alec and Jace both say, that though the Shadowhunter world has changed, that it is still hard for girls to become true warriors, and yet Isabelle works her ass off for it. And she’s another fiercely loyal, and caring person as well. The amount of love that she feels for her family: for her parents and Alec and Max and Jace is unparalleled. She is willing to do anything for them. Plus I just want to be HER: sexy, strong, brave, fearless, charming, a fighter…a fierce, fierce fighter.

2. Raisa ana’Marianna from The Seven Realms series

523786_253926611403027_1675677967_n

Raisa is seriously….I can’t even…she’s just so awesome. I knew from page one that I was addicted to this character. She’s everything realistic about being a teenage girl plus SO much more. She is young, and pretty and wants to enjoy both of those. She wants to flirt with boys and have fun, and not worry about taking the throne just yet. But then drama goes down (as it is wont to do) and Raisa is forced to run away from her kingdom, hide herself from her own mother, and eventually come back to take her rightful throne. She is so much stronger than a lot of the characters we’ve seen in YA in that…even though she falls madly in love with someone she can’t be with, she doesn’t really cave to that. Her duty comes first and foremost through it all, and she follows the rules, to keep a hold of her unsteady claim on the throne. Spoiler: I honestly didn’t think she was going to end up with Han, for a VERY long time. We really don’t figure out that Raisa is willing to push buttons until she has fought for her throne and she feels the strength to do so. But she has fire and passion and a good head on her shoulders, even as she makes the same mistakes that any human would do. She is a character that I would LOVE to see her on the big screen.

1. Hermione Granger from the Harry Potter series

url-7

I don’t think its any surprise that she is the best YA female character, at least according to myself. She is the first female character that I really read that I connected to, and that I still continue to connect to. Before I discovered Harry Potter, I was reading formula books like Sweet Valley High, Baby-Sitter’s Club, Pony Pals and the Boxcar Children. In other words, books that weren’t challenging me in the slightest. I first read Harry Potter when I was 10 years old, just one year younger than the characters themselves and Hermione immediately jumped out to me. One, she really was the only female character that we got to know in that book, besides, like McGonagall and Mrs. Norris haha. But I loved how smart she was, especially since she wasn’t born into that world. I loved how, even though she was teased and bullied, and had no friends, she didn’t stop being smart just for that. I love that she was always proud of her brain and her intelligence and she never, ever dumbed herself down for a boy, ever. I loved that she was brave, and loyal and kind and selfless and quick thinking and all of that. She is AWESOME and Emma Watson did a wonderful job portraying her :)

Top Ten Valentine’s Day Crushes

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone!

I have some things to say today, pharm on this day of love. One, order tell everyone you love that you love them. You should be doing this every day, not just on Valentine’s Day but you should do it today anyway. And two, if you’re single, honestly, hush up. Valentine’s Day isn’t just about relationship or romantic love. Its about friendship love and family love too. I always make sure to tell my friends that I love them to today and my family as well. My mom always makes me a little thing of cookies and candy and I always get a box of Sweethearts (the good ones, not the gross chalky ones) from my Dad, guaranteed.

I just hate when single people cry on this day. And maybe some people will get all uppity because I’m not single so I don’t know what I’m talking about. You’re talking to a girl who was dumped three times on Valentine’s Day; trust me, I can understand the Valentine’s Day hate. But you have to move on from that, and realize that there IS someone out there and you WILL find them, when the time is right. And, remember, just because maybe you’re not in a relationship, doesn’t mean you aren’t loved. Because you are; there’s always someone out there that loves you.

And besides, if you’re a nerd girl like me, you are bound to have some fictional crushes and whats better than a curling up with a book and falling in love with your favorite fictional character ALLLLLL over again :D

So I’m doing another top ten this week, forgoing the Book of the Week, in honor of Valentine’s Day.

Ever since I became a Mortal Instruments fan, I have to stop thinking of the evil guy, Valentine Morgenstern, every time I hear the word “Valentine”. Its so bad haha.

Moving on, my top ten Valentine’s Day crushes are:

Mr Darcy from Pride and Prejudice

images

This was one of the very few books I actually enjoyed in high school and probably because its a timeless story. Some people don’t get the love of this story and to them I say, DID YOU NOT READ THE SAME BOOK AS ME? I mean, sure, the story takes place in an era that barely exists anymore. I don’t need to make a debut and I don’t need to have my “season”. There aren’t appropriate matches for me and I don’t have to worry about not being rich enough for a man to marry me. But the messages that come across in this novel are still true: that we need to stop judging people right off the bat, that we need to let go of our pride and let go of our prejudices and see whats in front of us. Mr Darcy is one of  my biggest fictional crushes because of how you watch him fall in love with headstrong Elizabeth Bennett and how you watch him struggle with it…and when he finally comes to terms with it, and the lengths that he goes to make her happy, its just beautiful. Sigh. One of the most romantic books of all time.

9. Caroline Forbes from The Vampire Diaries

images-1

Candice Accola is absolutely gorgeous. Its funny; when it comes to guys, I tend to go light hair, light eyes…I like me some white boys I guess haha. But with girls, I like dark hair, dark eyes so I was surprised to find myself with a HUGE crush on Miss Caroline Forbes from Vampire Diaries. She’s soooo gorgeous and she plays a vampire, and instead of sparkling or being so beautifully tormented, she’s NORMAL and SEXY. Its awesome. When she’s turned, she still stays so wonderfully normal and she genuinely cares about all her friends and when she loves, she loves fully. She’s brave and smart and committed to her family and friends and sometimes you even forget that she’s a vampire. She took what was handed to her, even though she didn’t want it, and she lives with it. She’s so much better than the brooding and tortured vampires of most vampire novels and shows and so she’s a breath of fresh air ot me…and a super hot one at that.

8. Percy Jackson from Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus

tumblr_mctes9YUhA1r4l70eo1_500

Okay, I’m gonna make myself clear here: Percy is only hot at the end of the Olympians series and through the Heroes of Olympus series. Because he can’t be hot as an eleven year old because I would feel creepy as hell. And I know a lot of people were super disappointed in the first Percy Jackson movie. i do not think it was great but I don’t think it was THAT bad, either. And I think Logan Lerman makes a good Percy, a HOT one, even if he’s too old by the book standards. The picture above is awesome. And I want one of those shirts really badly. I think Percy becomes really brave and loyal as the books go along and if though its his fatal flaw, he’ll do anything for his friends, especially his girlfriend, Annabeth, and its so gosh darn cute, its hard to manage haha. That helps to guaranteed him a spot on this list.

7. Rhett Butler from Gone with the Wind

Rhett1

Another one of the most romantic books of all time. Not this stupid Fifty Shades of Grey crap. Gone with the Wind…probably the MOST romantic book of all time. And of course Rhett Butler is the hero of the book. Charles Hamilton and Frank Kennedy are barely a blip on the radar and Ashley Wilkes…my god, Ashley Wilkes makes me alternately want to throw up and punch him in the face. Rhett Butler is a man’s man, he doesn’t give a damn what anyone thinks of him, not until he finds people to love enough to change. He loves Scarlett and he loves his daughter, Bonnie, enough to become a gentleman to take care of them. He loves Scarlett enough to put with her craziness, which not many men will do in this day and age, let alone during the Civil War/Reconstruction period. Plus he just exudes sexiness.

6. Han Alister from the Seven Realms series

Couldn’t find a picture for Han, nor a fan art that I liked enough to put up here on my blog. I adore Han Alister because of everything that he is and everything that he works so hard to be. He was a criminal for so long, the king of the criminals and he did some seriously terrible things. Then he gives up the crime life, and tries to get some honest work to feed and take care of his mother and little sister. And when they die and he learns of his wizarding heritage, he does everything he can to learn his skill and to please everyone: the tribes who feel like they own him, the wizards who want to control him, Raisa who he loves and can’t have, and on and on and on. He works so hard to do the right thing, and he works so hard to protect the people he cares about, especially Raisa. You have to admire his courage and his guts, his talents and his intelligence.

5. Isabelle Lightwood from the Mortal Instruments series

444c3d20dd2e44fb5c5667fdf098c14f

I have a thing for the Lightwoods. One of them makes the number one spot on this list (I’m sure you totally know who it is). I also completely adore Alec Lightwood but you know, he’s gay so that doesn’t really work out in my favor haha. But Isabelle Lightwood has to make the list because she’s sexy as hell and she’s a badass. They say that even in the modern times of Shadowhunter that women HAVE to be trained to fight and if they aren’t, they’ll be relegated to jobs that keep them away from the action. Isabelle is trained to be a good Shadowhunter and she is a GREAT one, almost as good as Jace and probably better than her brother, Alec. She’s brave and she protects her family above anything. Her family loyalty to her parents, to her brothers (all three of them), is so admirable. I wish I had the bravery of Isabelle. Then there’s the fact that she fights all these demons in stilettos and sexy outfits doesn’t hurt in the slightest. I’m also really hoping that in City of Heavenly Fire, the last TMI installment, that her and Clary become parabatai. it would be SERIOUSLY awesome.

4. Sirius Black from the Harry Potter series

iPhone, Blackberry, wallpaper, 480, 320, pixels, high, vertical

I have no idea what it is about Sirius Black but he is one of my favorite characters in the entire Harry Potter universe besides Luna Lovegood and Ron Weasley. I love Luna for her uniqueness and I love Ron for his loyalty and his humor. But Sirius, I don’t know, that’s the man I have a crush on. I think its because he’s the bad boy, you know? But in a good way. Like, I’m not sitting here with a crush on Draco Malfoy (although, whew, Tom Felton is HOT). He was the hot bad boy when he was at school at Hogwarts and he’s sort of the same kind of guy when he grows up. He still has that casual arrogance, that cockiness that he used to have that is so sexy but he’s also extremely brave and intelligent and he’s a good father figure for Harry. I know that everyone agrees with that because he was cruel to Kreacher and he could be selfish at times but he was HUMAN. I think we like to put our favorite characters on pedestals but some of my favorite characters are the ones with the biggest flaws. Sirius Black…sexy man.

3. The Doctor from the Doctor Who series

The Doctor is hot for one big reason: he can do something for women that no other man can do. He can take them anywhere in time and space, whenever, wherever. He can take them on the most amazing of adventures, he can take them to see the most amazing places. If the Doctor showed up on my doorstop, I’d be like, “Let me grab my books and let’s go!” Because, you know, I can’t live without my books! They keep the stories fresh and the characters fresh with new companions and new regenerations of the Doctor, each one of them uniquely awesome and uniquely sexy. I am also on a Doctor Who high because I’m going to Gallifrey One, the Who convention, this weekend and I am SO excited! The Doctor is awesome, smart, sarcastic, funny, god he’s even sexy when he gets angry. And he has a blue box that can go ANYWHERE. And he has a damn British accent! You just don’t get better than that.

Except the maybe the first two on this list…below…haha

2. Han Solo from Star Wars

Original Trilogy - Han Solo 06

I have said it over and over again that this was my first nerd crush. I watched Star Wars when I was really young and I really started getting into it when I was about seven years old. My little brother had broken his leg when he was two (long crazy story haha) and he pretty much couldn’t do anything and the only thing he ever wanted to do is watch Star Wars. So we watched a ton of Star Wars, the original masterpieces that were on VHS. And this is where I met Han Solo. Mark Hamill as Luke was okay but I was already into that rugged, sarcastic man. Do i sense a pattern here? Yes, yes, I do. I like the sarcastic, humorous, bad buy who is really good kind of guy and that fits Han Solo perfectly. He has that bad boyness and the humor but he’s also sweet and he also cares and loves his friends. But he’s not mushy at the same time. And yet I still totally melt into a puddle every time he looks into Princess Leia’s eyes and says “I know”. SIgh. And now there are rumors of a stand alone Han Solo movie? Love it, as long as Harrison Ford doesn’t return. The man was SEXY as Han Solo and Indiana Jones but he’s a bit old to reprise that role…

1. Jace Wayland Morgenstern Herondale Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments series

Picture 4

Surprise, surprise. This guy is going to be my number one for a very, very long time. You may notice that I picked a picture of Jace on the cover of the novel, City of Lost Souls. I love Jamie Campbell Bower and I think that he’ll do a great job as Jace. But because Jace Lightwood is my ultimate fictional crush, I have my own vision of him in my head and that’s exactly how I like him. Jamie will do a great job but he isn’t at all what I pictured. Moving on, Jace fits the pattern of sexy, sarcastic badass bad boys that make my list. I like the sarcastic ones and I like the ones that are fighters, but are mushy enough to be super romantic. Jace Lightwood is a badass Shadowhunter, the best one, in fact, and his fighting skills are unparalleled. But he’s also fiercely loyal to his adopted family, the Lightwoods (Maryse, Robert, Isabelle, Alec and Max) and he becomes so protective of Clary, and he loves her so much. And I can’t lie, he says some of the sweetest things. I can’t wait to read more of them when City of Heavenly Fire hits stands in 2014.

So there’s my list of Valentine’s Day crushes but my biggest Valentine’s Day crush is this guy right here:

IMG_1485

We just celebrated five years of being together on Monday and this will be our sixth Valentine’s Day together. Five years ago, Jon asked me to be his girlfriend on February 11th. He was my best friend and became so much more than that. He had told me he wanted to wait until Valentine’s Day so I could finally have a good V-Day (remember, dumped THREE times…) and that he couldn’t wait. so that’s why our anniversary is the 11th. We had our first Valentine’s Day three days later…where we spent all day together…sort of. Jon got really SUPER sick, like super high fever, upchucking kind of sick. And that’s why I spent our first Valentine’s Day taking care of him. But no matter who you throw my way, no matter how many times I have crushes on fictional characters, at the end of every single day, this is the only boy I need <3

Happy Valentine’s Day everyone :D I hope that it was good and that you remember, no matter what your relationship status, you are loved! You will always have people to love and if you’re reading this, there’s a damn good chance that I love you :) Spread the love. There should always be love in the world, family love, friendship love, romantic love.

And always remember, that these fictional characters we read, they’re awesome and lovable but they are just that: fictional. There are amazing people in this world to love, full of flaws and awesome. No one is perfect and no one is ever going to measure up to your favorite fictional man because he’s not real. They are never going to say the things that you read in the books but that’s okay. Because when you do find the right one, you’ll love them 100%, flaws and all.
