One of the best parts about running this blog is having the ability to meet some really cool people, generic and some of the coolest people that I have met have led me to really cool blogs. I’ve said it before, cialis 40mg no one’s blog is 100% original but everyone’s voices are different so there are blogs that I love to read because I love the writer, and I love the passion that they show for what they are writing. They are fun and interesting to read and they inspire me to get better and better in my blog.

Not only do I get to find out more about them, but I also get to share them with you guys! Most of the bloggers that I follow are like me, nerd girls, fan girls and they enjoy the same things as me, and you! Megan Christine Herondale/Lewis/Ivashkov/Black/Ryves/Shaw/Odair/Collins/Parnell …okay so my name’s only Megan Christine Kaniasty and I tried to steal a couple of fictional last names – arrest me (and then ask me what ever I say can and will be held against me…because in that case I would say…)

Sara: Tell me a Little Bit About Yourself:

Megan: I am a 22 year old full time student. I am going to school at a private Christian college called Biola University, and in two years I will be the proud owner of a BA in elementary education with an emphasis in special needs, a minor in Biblical studies, and a certification to teach. My earliest memory was of me wanting to become a published writer, and that is exactly what I plan on doing. I am working on a trilogy now, but I have also been keeping up other book ideas in my journals as they come along. I write everyday, whether it is for a blog, in my diary, or for my novels – I need to write, it is my forever love. My other love is this boy Sean Patrick Sugg. In my phone he is known as “Jace Herondale”. We’ve been together for almost 6 years now, and even though he isn’t an alien, a shadowhunter, or some awesome downworlder, we have one of those real life fairy tail stories. Oh yeah, I also love to read. Obsessed with it actually; books are my heroine. I know how blessed I am and I thank God every single day!

Sara: Tell me about your blog:

Megan: Of all the blogs I am apart of, or that I write for, LuxenArmy.net is my baby because it is something that I had created. I brought on three other very talented girls from different time zones to help me run the website at all hours of the day, so that this becomes the best lux fansite out there! Luxenarmy.net is a fansite based on Jennifer Armentrout’s Lux series novels – it even has approval of author Jennifer Armentrout! The site offers everything from news on Jennifer Armentrout’s novels (specifically focusing on the Lux series, and the Arum series) to forums for fans to live chat in with one another, and even a place to submit lux series fanfiction and fanart! The luxen army has a twitter @LUXENarmy , a tumblr, a facebook page that you should like and, luxenarmy.net ‘s origins, the facebook group.

Sara: What inspired you to start your blog?

Megan: I started the luxen army after interviewing Jennifer Armentrout for ifandomscollide.com. I have called Lux fans the luxen army before, but after the interview, I really wanted to create a real life luxen army. I did it for fun, not expecting many people to see it because who am I? I am nobody really, just this nerd girl in LA. Well little did I know Jennifer Armentrout would catch wind of my facebook group and share about it over twitter. This facebook group of mine turned into a website, a facebook page, tumblr, and twitter because of the amount of unbelievable support that flooded in. I asked Tatiana, one of my best friends to help me out because I was new at this, she has a blog, and she was there when the luxen army invaded my life. Two other girls came to me asking if I would like help with the site, and thank God for them. Erin has designed the website beautifully, and Jessica has an AMAZING talent that I can’t wait to be shared with everyone in the Luxen Army!

Sara: What is your favorite nerd memory?

BKgye3QCcAECgis

Megan: My FAVORITE nerd memory is Wondercon 2013. The Mortal Instruments is my favorite book series, Cassandra Clare is my favorite author, The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones is being made into a film, and they were having a panel at wondercon AND a meet and greet (if you happen to be lucky enough to win tickets TO the meet and greet). Lets just say I was really, REALLY lucky. Long story short, I was dressed up as one of the characters, Isabelle Lightwood (this is the nerdy part, me in cosplay. Well, I guess being at Wondercon is pretty nerdy as well…) I had an unbelievable time meeting the cast, and got kicked out for having my custom phone case signed. A security guard took my badge, and walked me out of Wondercon. We were talking the whole way out, and before I left I ended up talking my way into getting the security guard to give me my wondercon badge back so that I could still get back in. I met the cast, hugged the cast, and made a memorable exit. BEST. NERD. MEMORY. EVER…I have another amazing nerd memory meeting the director of The Mortal Instruments…I am a truly blessed nerd girl.

Sara: What are you most looking forward to, as far as new books/movies/etc?

Megan: I can’t even fathom an answer to this question. I get butterflies in my stomach and see lots of pictures flashing in my mind of new books, movies, movie trailers, interviews, and such, when I think of this question. I am looking forward to it all.

Sara: As my blog is mostly about books and reading, what are some of your favorite books or authors to read?

Megan:  Series: The Mortal Instruments, The Infernal Devices, The Lux series, The Shades of London, The Demon’s Lexicon, The Divergent series, The Hunger Games series, The Morganville Vampires, The Hush Hush series, The Vampire Academy series, The Mara Dyer series, The Feather Trilogy…the list can go on and on. As for Authors, well that list can go on and on as well, here are just a few (not including the authors of the series I’ve listed above): Sara Dessen, Nicholas Sparks, Morgan Matson, Andrew Smith, Leigh Bardugo, Lex Thomas… and again I say the list will go on and on (I know there are a TON more authors I absolutely LOVE but did not list, please PLEASE know you’re in my heart, but if I continue to list authors I love, well this would turn into an encyclopedia length blurb!)

Sara: What are some of your favorite blogs to follow?

tumblr_inline_mn42qeu7I01qz4rgp

Megan: I don’t really follow blogs other than those I write for, my best friends’ blogs: whatanerdgirlsays.com and fangirlfeeels.wordpress.com, OR select authors. Cassandra Jean is the exception being neither a blog I write for, my best friend, or an author – I just think she is absolutely brilliant!

Sara: Who is your fictional crush (what, we’re nerd girls, we all have one!)

Megan: Now THIS list will be quite long, I have more than one fictional crush. I guess I will give you my top ten – narrowing it down to only 10 is quite hard by the way.

1. Will Herondale (TID)

2. Jace Herondale (TMI)

3. Daemon Black (Lux)

4. Four (yes I put Four on 4 on purpose) (Divergent)

5. Jem Carstairs (especially after reading the Clockwork Prince graphic novel!) (TID)

6. Simon Lewis (TMI)

7. Cam Hamilton (Wait for You)

8. Adrian Ivashkov (Vampire Academy)

9. Finnick Odair (THG)

10. Nick Ryves (Demon’s Lexicon)

…OH WAIT! I have more, TONS more fictional crushes! Oh boy, I believe I am a fictional whore…

Victoria: I was inspired to start my blog & vlog from my love of sharing the things I enjoy with others.
Sara: What is your favorite nerd memory?
Victoria: I have 3 favorite nerd memories. One was back in 2010 when I met Jamie Campbell Bower. There were already whispers that he’d be playing Jace from The Mortal Instruments, so I was having an inner FanGirl attack the whole time! Next was when I met Kellan Lutz aka Emmett Cullen from The Twilight Saga because I’m Team Emmett and a huge fan of Kellan Lutz. My heart was racing from excitement and I got weak in the knees. Another favorite nerd memory of mine was when I saw Stan Lee in person at Dragon*Con 2012!

I went to my grandma’s 80th birthday party wearing The Sorting Hat AND my MockinJay pin! Fandom Pride!

Sara: Tell me a Little Bit About Yourself:

Tatiana: I really LOVE reading, writing, singing, dancing, acting and being creative. BIG fan of the arts! Harry Potter, and Disneyland are probably my two favorite things in the world (but I’m not really sure, I mean, I haven’t really traveled the world yet, but for now, we can go with that)! My hobbies include reading TONS of books & attending book signings. I also like going to movie premieres/red carpet events (especially for book based films). I enjoy making new friends pretty much anywhere I go! <3

Sara: Tell me about your blog:

Tatiana: City of Shadowhunters is a Mortal Instruments fan site that I launched early this year. It follows the latest news and updates on The City of Bones film along with all of Cassandra Clare’s latest projects, including TMI, TID,TDATLH and The Bane Chronicles! From the moment I picked up Cassie’s books, I just really fell in love with the world of Shadowhunters and Downworlders. I mean, the stories really had such an impact on my life and the way that I viewed the world. The stories really filled my heart with something that might have been missing before I ever read them; and I really wanted to share that and pay it forward, so I started up a fan site! :D

shadowhunterpose1

Posing at WonderCon, showing my Shadowhunter pride. ;)

Sara: What inspired you to start your blog?

Tatiana: I’ve been attending book signings and movie premieres/ fan camps for quite some time and I really felt like sharing the experiences with my closest friends. When I noticed that my friends weren’t listening, I decided to get online and share these awesome personal experiences with any fangirls that would listen (hehe). The idea for a fan site really just came from me wanting to share my experiences with friends; it just grew from there.  I have some really awesome memories that I didn’t just want to keep to myself. The Mortal Instruments IS my favorite book series (since Harry Potter) so I wanted to start up a fan site dedicated to that. I fell in love with this series, and its very close to my heart.

Sara: What is your favorite nerd memory?

THGpose

At fan camp for The Hunger Games movie premiere, just met the tributes!

Tatiana: Being a TOTAL geek, I’m not in short supply of nerdy moments, but my favorite has to be when I went to The Hunger Games movie premiere. I had spent the entire weekend I at fan camp, and we were running low on sleep and energy. The absolute BEST moment was when I was in the fan section on the red carpet and a news channel came to interview me asking why I decided to camp out. She had interviewed me, and then asked where I was from. Here’s how that went:

Newscaster- “So, where are you from?”

Me- “I’m from District 7! We harvest wood!”

Newscaster- “No, where in the United States?’

Me- “There is NO United States! We live in a dystopian world– We have Districts! …I am from District 7… “

It wasn’t until after she’d wrapped up our interview that my friends let me know she was talking about my actual hometown. I was so embarrassed when I’d realize what I’d actually said. It was definitely a laugh that my THG fans and I still talk about. hehe.

Sara: What are you most looking forward to, as far as new books/movies/etc?

Tatiana: I am MOST looking forward to release of The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones movie! I really cannot wait to see it. I predict that it is going to be AMAZING!  As far as movies go, I’m also look forward to Catching Fire and Divergent! For books, I’m looking forward to Allegiant (Divergent 3),  and The Mortal Instruments: City of Heavenly Fire. I’m being as patient as I can until CoHF comes out, but I really cannot wait to read it! In the meantime, I’m having a lot of fun predicting all possible outcomes with the rest of the fandom. <3

Sara: As my blog is mostly about books and reading, what are some of your favorite books or authors to read?

Tatiana: I’m SO excited about this question because I really really enjoy reading! I LOVE reading classics, anything written by Jane Austen or the Bronte sisters. Harry Potter is my ABSOLUTE favorite series, ever (JK Rowling is a GENIUS)! The Mortal Instruments (anything by Cassandra Clare, really). I find that I am a big fan of a lot of the YA series’ out there like: The Divergent series, The Hunger GamesDelirium and Chaos Walking (to name a few). :)

TwilightWasted4

Here I am at the Twilight Fan Camp, feeling a little Twilight Wasted after meeting some of the film’s stars. :)

Sara: What are some of your favorite blogs to follow?

Tatiana: “WhatANerdGirlSays” of course!

I really love following my friends’ blogs: “IAmDivergent” and “FangirlFeeels“. I also keep up with Page to Premiere for a good mix of all the fandoms and the latest movie/casting news. “MockingJayNet” & “Down With The Capitol (DWTC)” are my favorite Hunger Games fansites (I’m a HUGE THG fan). And, of course, “TMI Source” for The Mortal Instruments news! <3

Sara: Who is your fictional crush (what, we’re nerd girls, we all have one!)

Tatiana: The Herondales (William and Jace)! I just cannot get enough of them. It’s hard to pick, but I can honestly say that Will Herondale is my ALL TIME favorite character! I just LOVE him! <3

One Last Word From Tatiana:

Special THANK YOU to my Fangirl Twin Sara for featuring me! You’re a DOLL! ILY! <3

What Really Happened in Peru Review!

17334079

Yeah, physician we finally get to see some background information on our favorite sexy warlock, ed  Magnus Bane, of the Mortal Instruments and Infernal Devices series by Cassandra Clare.

Magnus Bane is a pretty big character in both series. You first meet him in The Mortal Instruments, when he comes to the aid of Clary, Jace and the rest of them, and is the warlock that erases Clary’s memories of her Sight. Then he starts dating Alec. Then as Cassie started to release the Infernal Devices series, you meet him again, in the Victorian age, years before Clary’s time, and he helps out Tessa, Will, Jem, Charlotte and the others and is involved with a lusty vampire by the name of Camille. We’re never really sure of Magnus’s real age, it could be anywhere from 300 years old to 800 years old and he makes odd and random references to his past that leave us dying for more.

And so Cassandra Clare, along with her dear friend and fellow author, Sarah Rees Brennan, decided to write stories about Magnus Bane called The Bane Chronicles. The Bane Chronicles will release a chapter at time over the course of the next few months, starting today (April 16th) and ending with the last story on December 31 of this year (check out the list below).

Eventually all of the stories will be bound together in one print book, but there isn’t any concrete information on that quite yet.

But anyway, the first story that was released was What Really Happened in Peru, where we finally will learn why on earth Magnus is banned from Peru, something he mentions very briefly in the Mortal Instruments series.

Now there ARE spoilers ahead, so if you haven’t had a chance to read it yet, go ahead and skip this part, and check out the future release dates for the next installments and their titles!

I LOVED the first installment of The Bane Chronicles…mostly because they were so absolutely random but so…so…so Magnus. They live and breathe Magnus. This story tells of a few adventures that Magnus has in Peru, mostly with Ragnor Fell, and another warlock by the name of Catarina, who sounds like an awesome character and I hope makes more appearances.

The first adventure takes place in 1791, where Magnus and Ragnor explore Peru, and Magnus gets in trouble with a monkey and then they get a job protecting a ship carrying guano, or bird poop. Of course, only madness can occur. We are informed that this incident is NOT the reason Magnus is banned from Peru.

The second adventure takes place in 1885, so after Magnus’s part in the Infernal Devices trilogy. He’s back in Peru but with Ragnor and Catarina. This story is the shortest and involves breaking into an ancient tomb to acquire a lost treasure. Still no word on what got him banned…

Next adventure is in 1890, with both Ragnor and Catarina again. Magnus has fallen in love with a local musician named Imasu who plays the charango…and of course he’s a black haired, blue eyed man (oh Alec Lightwood). This story is the longest and the BEST. It showcases Magnus falling in love with Imasu and his relationship with the man, and even though I’m a HUGE Malec shipper, you can’t help but ship Magnus and Imasu too. And then after Imasu breaks Magnus’s heart, he goes on a crazy drinking bender and has the craziest adventures ever. He does…he does the craziest things. He enchants a carpet to fly and sets guinea pigs free, and its just fantastic. I was cracking up the entire time while reading this story…and yet…he still isn’t banned from Peru…

The last story takes place in 1962, where Magnus runs into tourists and steals away the girl to go on a sort of Bonnie and Clyde adventure for the summer. Its short, and sweet and just…its just SO Magnus.

I think that’s the best part of these stories. Magnus is an eccentric but wonderful character and he’s just so mysterious and obviously has a lot of history. He casually mentions his past often, doesn’t really tell anyone what his real age is and is just one of my absolute favorite characters in the novel, and one of the favorites of most Shadowhunter fans. Obviously Magnus is old, though we don’t know exactly how old, and he’s had to have experienced a lot and we get a little piece of his random and awesome life.

We also start to get a little bit of his past and the way he is kind of damaged by his parents: his mother, who committed suicide after realizing that she had not had a child with her husband but with something ungodly, his stepfather, who obviously wanted nothing to do with him and his father, the demon, whose identity we don’t know yet but obviously isn’t a great friend of Magnus’s. Its very consistent with the Magnus we get in TMI and TID; we get the charming and funny and sexy Magnus but the complicated one as well.

But, oh, Cassie and Sarah, you WICKED wicked wonderful women, how dare you! The stories end with us finding out that the Peruvian government sends Magnus a letter, saying that he is banned from Peru for “crimes unspeakable” but we don’t know what they are and they remain a mystery!

We still don’t know why he was banned! After all of that, we get to see a ton of Magnus Bane’s adventures in Peru but we still don’t know why he’s banned! What brilliance and poppycock! I think if the stories weren’t so good, I would have been so mad but I just laughed and shook my head, thinking of what clever little girls that Cassie and Sarah are.

All in all, five out of five stars for this first installment and I canNOT wait until the next one comes out, which you can see on the list below!

*      *      *      *     *

Fandom Friday-The Shadowhunter Chronicles

So I’ve decided to start a new segment of my blog called the Fandom Friday

This basically comes from my desire to find more fandoms…and this doesn’t necessarily mean that I’m trying to fill my life with more fandoms but I’m trying to be more open to other ones.

The biggest reason I’m doing this is because I’ve always felt like…so many fandoms preach acceptance and tolerance and equality and respect and all that. And yet…I’ve found that a lot of us nerds can be kind of judgemental on other fandoms, sick myself included. I mean, some people are REALLY judgemental and mean about it, sometimes.

And I’m trying to be better at it. And I’ve decided I want to learn more about different fandoms and kind of have people…backing up the fandom? That doesn’t sound quite right. I guess I just want people to write of the fandoms that they like and say why they like them, and what they mean to them, and maybe we can all start to understand each other.

Hey, I’m not saying that you have to like the fandoms. There are some things that we’re just not going to like. But I’m hoping that we all learn about some new ones, understand the ones we don’t like and finally figure out the ones that we don’t really understand.

So the first one is my own. I’m looking for anyone and everyone who would like to contribute to this. You can do any fandom that you’d like, except Harry Potter, Stars Wars and Doctor Who…ONLY because these are my three biggest fandoms and they are also really, really popular and I write about all three of these all the time. Any others though, free game, and leave a little comment below (make sure to click “email me for replies”) and we’ll get this going!

So this week’s first Fandom Friday is The Shadowhunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare. And I know its Sunday but its been a busy weekend and we’ll just forget the days of the week just this once okay?

*      *      *      *

526080_10150694218929376_351263854375_9234298_896591125_n

Now, the reason that I pick the Shadowhunter Chronicles as my first fandom of the week, instead of Harry Potter or Star Wars or Doctor Who is that I have almost never had to really defend my obsession with these. These are VERY popular fandoms and very highly accepted fandoms and some people may shake their head at HOW obsessed I am, but I never really have to defend it as a whole.

The Shadowhunter series…those I am always, always, always defending. They are honestly a big reason why I’m trying to be more accepting of other fandoms, even the ones that I just think are plain awful. Then I realized…a lot of people have a problem with Cassie and her books. It goes both ways.

Officially right now, there are 8 Shadowhunter books in two different series. The Mortal Instruments takes place in present time and is as follow: City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, City of Fallen Angels, City of Lost Souls and the 2014 finale, City of Heavenly Fire. The Infernal Devices is a companion series, taking place in Victorian England. This series is complete: Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince and Clockwork Princess. Cassandra has three more series planned: The Dark Artifices, (Lady Midnight, Prince of Shadows and The Queen of Air and Darkness) which is a Los Angeles series taking place five years after the finale of the Mortal Instruments, TLH, which is acronymed and not named and will be following the children of the Infernal Devices series and a completely secret series, that will take place three years after the Dark Artifices series.

The books are an urban, contemporary fantasy. Its a world that we all recognize and know, but there’s more to it than we know. Demons roam our world, along with vampires, werewolves, warlocks and fae. And there are those that would protect the world from those demons, called Shadowhunters, humans with a dash of angel blood, warriors trained their entire lives to fight these demons. They have their own secret world, can shield themselves from us and have their own secret country, Idris. They use special weapons like seraph blades, blessed by angels to defeat demons, and use steles to draw “Marks” or “runes” on their body to give them extra or enhanced abilities in battle.

Picture 2

The Mortal Instruments takes place in countemporary world, with Clary Fray, a sixteen year old girl who suddenly can see people and things she wasn’t able to see before. She stumbles upon some Shadowhunters while they are on the hunt, when she shouldn’t be able to see them. Shortly after, her mother is kidnapped and it is revealed that her mother is a Shadowhunter and once was married to a man named Valentine, who has a desire to “purify” the race of Shadowhunters and begin a superior order. Clary has to find her mother, and help to defeat Valentine, along with the help of her human best friend, Simon Lewis, the warlock, Magnus Bane, and her new Shadowhunter friends, Jace Wayland, Alec Lightwood and Isabelle Lightwood. The first book in the series, City of Bones, will be hitting theaters this summer, on August 23rd.

The Infernal Devices takes place in Victorian England at near end of the 19th century. Tessa Gray, again, is a human girl, who leaves New York to join her brother, Nate in England. She is kidnapped as soon as she reaches the dock, and soon learns that she has abilities she was never aware of: shape-shifting. As long as she’s holding the personal item of a person, she can change into them, and access their memories. According to her kidnappers, she’s being prepped to become the wife of a man called the Magister, who has a use for her and her talents. She is rescued by the Shadowhunter boys, Will Herondale and Jem Carstairs and, just like Clary, is suddenly aware of a world that she wasn’t before. Her story  shows her trying to figure out what she is and why the Magister wants her, and what he has planned for her and the Shadowhunters.

I first discovered these books three years ago, in 2010. To keep a story short, my boyfriend and I had broken up, and lets just say it wasn’t a nice break up. It was kind of a messy one and a lot was going on at the time. My boyfriend and I had gone through a tough time, and broke up due to that, and a couple other reasons. I was feeling crappy at my job. I was taking five classes in college and was overwhelmed. Everything was just kind of down in the dumps and I was absolutely miserable. It SUCKS to break up with someone that you had plans for in the future. Of course, it all worked out, in the long run because we ended up back together and have been together for five years :)

But at the time, I just needed to be distracted. I didn’t want to think about all the crap that was going on; I needed distractions. I discovered Starkid during this time, and became super addicted to their Harry Potter musicals because of how much they made me laugh. And I found Cassandra Clare. I went to Borders to pick up a book, and I found City of Bones. I read it that night, and picked up City of Ashes the very next day, and picked up City of Glass the day after. Then I read Clockwork Angel. I got addicted FAST.

Now, a big part of the reason that I was addicted so fast, and that it remains one of my biggest fandoms, is because of what it did for me at that time. It really helped me. I needed to be distracted and it did just that. It kept me from being absolutely miserable. The stories are super funny, especially with Simon and Jace and their sarcasm. The pop culture references are always awesome, makes me think of Boss Joss Whedon and his pop culture references in everything that he does. Its action packed, and it has a lot of biblical and mythological aspects (though I do think she could go further with these). The world she builts is sexy and addicting and she spins a romance that I’m in love with. And Jace Wayland is a character that you just can’t get over, especially when you’re single and lonely haha.

But its also more than that. Despite what a lot of people say, I think Cassandra Clare is a great writer. I think she’s very contemporary and that’s the way I write. Not all of us are going to write like Jane Austen or whatever. Not all of us can write classically but that doesn’t mean we aren’t great writers and I think she’s a great writer. I also don’t think that she’s “stolen” all the things people believe she has. I believe she used a lot of it in her fan fiction but that was her fan fiction and let’s move on. And yes, there are allusions to different worlds from different books, but doesn’t everyone do that? There are no 100% original stories anymore. We all tell the same stories, but HOW we tell it, and the characters we have, in the places we have…that’s what makes our stories unique. Cassandra Clare pulled from J.K. Rowling who pulled from J.R.R. Tolkien who pulled from Norse mythology which…and on and on.

But sometimes, we just enjoy things that aren’t literary masterpieces. Not every book I read is going to be an excellent example of literary prowess. Sometimes I just want my not so guilty pleasure book. I enjoy these books. I love the stories and I love the characters and they’re good for me.

And I do like the ideas that Cassie brings in. She talks about fears a lot. She talks about bravery and courage and the idea of fears. Clary is afraid of loving Jace, she’s afraid of her father, she’s afraid of a lot of things. Jace is afraid of letting himself love and be loved, both in family and romantic ways and he’s afraid of Clary. Isabelle is afraid to let her tough girl guard down. Simon is afraid of losing his best friend. Luke and Jocelyn are afraid for Clary‘s safety and what Valentine is capable of. Alec is afraid of his sexuality and coming to terms with it. Valentine is afraid of not having control. And a lot of times these fears hold them back, and cause more problems than anything.

And she doesn’t preach of just overcoming your fears, but learning to accept them and learning to live with them. This is a huge reason why I have the Fearless rune tattoo on my arm. I really agree with the way she approaches fear, and courage and bravery, and overcoming and accepting fears. These people aren’t fearless, no one can be fearless but you can learn to live with your fears.

One last thing, I do like that Cassie has included gay, bisexual and lesbian characters. Alec is gay, and Magnus is bisexual and Aline and Helen are lesbian. I really like how a familiar concept can be presented in an unfamiliar territory. I do love that more and more authors are exploring these in books, not just in subtext but in more obvious ways. I love that even though Cassie gets letters from parents complaining about the LGBT characters, she continues to write about them. Its fantastic.

Tuesday Top Ten-Fictional Male Crushes

So this was one of my first blog posts way back in May of 2012, viagra 100mg when I first started my blog.

The reason that I’m doing it again is this: when I first started my blog, unhealthy I had about 15 followers, for sale that were mostly my friends and family, and most of my friends and family were just like, “Okay, Sara, we’ll follow your blog but we don’t really get it…” Now, I have a lot more followers, and I’ve met more girl bloggers and I’ve really expanded myself out there. More people are coming to WhatANerdGirlSays than before.

I’ve also had a HUGE increase in followers in the last few weeks because of the contest I just held and because I’ve been passing out my blog business cards. Which means a lot of people haven’t seen the other lists that I’ve made. And I know that my blog mostly attracts girls, nerd girls, fan girls, you know? This is a girl blog, though I do write for both genders, and one of my favorite parts of reading books and watching my shows and movies, is having that character crushes, both male and female.

This time, I’m going to be doing an updated, though not super changed, top ten of my favorite male crushes in fictional worlds. I’ll probably do an updated top ten of my favorite female crushes soon too. But I’ve decided to kind of update some of the older ones for you new followers to enjoy :)

I’m laughing a little while I write this because one of my biggest followers is my dad, and he loves reading the Tuesday Top Ten because its my more gender equal posts, and he’s always bugging me about that post, like he did today. I think he’ll be a bit disappointed in this.

But for the rest of you awesome people, enjoy!

Top Ten Fictional Male Crushes

10. Han Alister

I couldn’t find a photo for Han Alister, mostly because he’s a book character, and a book character that has not been made into a movie, so its near impossible. I also couldn’t find any fan art like I really liked. So Han doesn’t get a picture. Oh well. Han Alister is one of the main characters, besides Princess Raisa, in the Seven Realms trilogy by Cinda Williams Chima. Princess Raisa is the heir to her country, and determined to become a good queen, to be good to her people and help them, and to find a person who she can marry that will benefit the kingdom. Han is a former streetlord, suddenly discovering his magic powers and learning to harness them and fighting hard to make something of himself. Their stories intertwine as unrest both outside and inside the borders of the country threatens them both. What I like about Han is the sort of…confidence he has and the way he holds himself. He still has that confidence and easiness of a streetlord, that casual arrogance but he also has determination and ambition to BE someone, especially when he realizes how he feels for Raisa, and knows that his station doesn’t permit him to have her. I like ambition in a man :)

“So here’s the truth – I love you. I love everything about you – the way you stick up for people even when it costs you. The way you keep trying to do the right thing even when you’re not exactly sure what the right thing is. I love how you put words together. You’re as skilled with words as any knife fighter with a blade. You can put an enemy down on his back, or you can raise people up so they find what’s best in themselves. You’ve changed my life. You’ve given me the words I need to become whatever I want.”

9. Tony Stark/Ironman

tony_stark_iron_man_2-wallpaper-1600x900

So awhile back, I was watching TV and one of those entertainment shows, E.T. or whatever, did a piece on Robert Downey Jr, and all the drama he once went through and how everyone thought he was done and would never recover and whatnot. They showed a People magazine that was something like, Robert Downey Jr will never bounce back, or recover, or be important again, or something. Then they showed a People magazine that came out probably after Ironman, and they were like “Oops! We were Wrong!” And its so TRUE. Robert Downey Jr came back with a vengeance and the Ironman movies are my favorite to come out of this comic book character storm. One, they’re just great movies, and two, Tony Stark is an awesome character. He’s cocky and arrogant but wicked smart and honestly, I do believe he wants to save the day. I like him because he doesn’t have super powers, much like Bruce Wayne/Batman but instead of having just the heaps of money, he really does have the brains as well. He is seriously intelligent. And hot. So hot.

“All right. Yay. All right. Good job, guys. Let’s just not come in tomorrow. Let’s just take a day. Have you ever tried shawarma? There’s a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don’t know what it is, but I wanna try it.”

8. Sherlock Holmes

Benedict-Cumberbatch

I’m starting to see a trend in my crushes, and I’m only on #7. For those of you who don’t know, or are basically living under a rock, this is Benedict Cumberbatch (also appearing as the necromancer and Smaug in The Hobbit) as Sherlock Holmes in the BBC show, Sherlock. This is the show that inspired the American adapation, Elementary (because god forbid we come up with new ideas here haha). Anyway, it seriously must be his dashing good looks and charming British accent because Sherlock Holmes the character is kind of a jerk, and definitely arrogant. Not even a little bit, he most definitely is arrogant, and in the beginning, is almost lacking of humanity. He gets excited when there’s a serial killer because its interesting and gives him something to do with that big ‘ol brain of his. But I like that, as the show goes on, he gains more of his humanity, which I think comes a lot from his partner in crime, John Watson. He makes jokes and laughs, and cares. I mean, sure, he’s still Sherlock and he’s still a JERK but he gets better and I adore him.

Sitting on a couch in Buckingham Palace
John Watson: Are you wearing any pants?
Sherlock Holmes: …No.
John Watson: Okay.

7. Will Herondale

tumblr_static_-the-infernal-devices-clockwork-angel-cover-the-infernal-devices-10976341-804-692

Yeah, there’s a trend. There is so definitely a trend. William Herondale is one of the main characters in Cassandra Clare’s second Shadowhunter series, which takes place in the Victorian age and features people who may or may not be related to those in the Mortal Instruments, her original series. Will starts off as an asshole. Excuse the language, but he really is. He isn’t just mean, he’s cruel at times. He casually uses the drug that is KILLING his best friend, he treats Tessa like nothing more than a prostitute. He has harsh jokes and sometimes you are just like…how could this be happening? And he’s the first male character that you, and Tessa, meet and he’s abnormally handsome, with the dark hair and blue eyes and you’re hoping that this is the one for her and he’s just so mean. It gets better though in Clockwork Prince when you realize that he is under a curse, that everyone he loves will die and so he is cruel to them, to save them. Once he realizes that he was lied to, and has never been cursed, the real Will comes out and you realize what a loving, and caring and selfless person he is, especially in Clockwork Princess. And you feel sympathy for him…how hard would it be to convince people NOT to love you?

“Jem told me what Ragnor Fell said about my father,” Will said. “That for my father, there was only ever one woman he loved, and it was her for him, or nothing. You are that for me. I love you, and I will only ever love you until I die…”

6. Rhett Butler

rhett2

Rhett. Butler. Totally doesn’t fit this list in the slightest but is one of my absolute favorite male characters of all time. I can’t even remember how young I was the first time I watched this movie, and I read the book for the first time when I was 13, and have read it several times since then. Its one of my absolute favorite books of ALL time. I like Rhett Butler because, straight up, the guy has more guts than anyone in the entire book. Ashley Wilkes is all about honor and serving his country even if he doesn’t actually believe in what he’s fighting for. Charles Hamilton is just a big softie and was just not the match for Scarlett in the slightest. Frank Kennedy was smart but bland. There wasn’t much to him. The most amazing man in the book was Rhett. He had the intelligent and charisma and cleverness and slyness and all of it. He made his money, on his own after his family disowns him, and even if its not the “proper” way, he still does it. He does things for himself and I like that. He has ambition and guts. He doesn’t have his hand up in the clouds, he’s going to do what he has to do!

“Well, my dear, take heart. Some day, I will kiss you and you will like it. But not now, so I beg you not to be too impatient.”

5. Sirius Black

Sirius-Black-sirius-black-22405728-1156-1700

Even though I think Gary Oldman is sexy man, he’s not what I pictured as Sirius Black. I always pictured Sirius as a youngish, slightly arrogant and just funny as hell. (Damn, there goes my trend again…). Sirius is arrogant and he is immature. He never quite grows up from his popular days at Hogwarts and he never really gets over his childhood hate of Snape. But I still think that he is a really good person. So many people complain about his inconsistencies but people in general are inconsistent. And I think he was trying his very best to be a good godfather to Harry. He spent 12 years in Azkaban and he went in at a young age, only 21 or 22 years old and he came out as a middle aged adult but he never really got the time to truly grow up. He was beginning to grow up, in his time outside of prison. And he truly loved Lily, James and Lupin, and Harry. He was trying to do his best by them and it was admirable. And he was supposed to be good looking as hell and he had that cockiness and easy goingness, and he was a loyal, loyal friend.

“Then you should have died! Died rather than betray your friends, as we would have done for you!”

4. Michael Moscovitz

MM

Michael Moscovitz, I think, was one of my first fictional crushes. Definitely one of my first book crushes. I discovered The Princess Diaries and Meg Cabot when I was 12 years old. I loved Michael. He was the super good looking senior who fell in love with super awkward and geeky freshman, Mia, and it was like a dream to me. I was super awkward and gangly and shy in middle school and high school. Hell, I still am, minus the shy part. But I’ve always been geeky, with my head in my journal or a book and wrapped up in my fictional worlds and I always wished some good looking older guy would come out of nowhere and love me despite my awkwardness haha. But Michael is great. He’s hot, he’s smart as hell. He gets into Colombia, early admission, and invents a robot arm that assists in heart surgeries. He’s musical and in a band. He’s really really really good at math and helps Mia pass math, because she can write a good story but she couldn’t solve the quadratic formula if her life depended on it. He’s geeky and quotes Star Wars and Star Trek and loves Buffy and he’s awesome. He’s just awesome. And now that I’m 25 and its been over a decade since I first read these books…I get a kick out of the similarities between me and Mia and the similarities between Michael and my boyfriend Jon.

“Mia, I’m not sorry. And I’ll wait.
Love, Michael.”

3. The Doctor

images

I don’t see how a girl who loves Doctor Who could NOT have a crush on The Doctor. He can give you the entire universe. He offers you the most appealing deal in the history of all deals. He has a spaceship that can go anywhere in time and space. You can go to any time, any planet, any where. Wherever you want to go. And sure, every time you go somewhere, things inevitably go wrong, but his life is interesting and fast paced and different. Its so different from this “boring, monotonous” life. He’s hundresds of years old and he’s been everywhere and seen everything. He’s smart and funny and selfish and selfless at the same time. He’s always determined to save the day, but he always has fun while he’s at. And he cares SO much. The depth of his emotions and his caring is what makes him so real. He’s an alien, not even human and he’s older than any human can even begin to understand but its his emotions, and passion that give him his humanity. If The Doctor showed up on my doorstep, you bet I’d want to see the galaxy.

“Amy Pond, there’s something you better understand about me ’cause it’s important and one day your life may depend on it…I am definitely a mad man with a box.”

2. Han Solo

hansolo

My first fictional crush, easily. I was about seven years old when my little brother Joey broke his leg at 2 years old, so severely that he was in a full body cast. The kid was a toddler and couldn’t even move. It was just the saddest thing and as the eldest child, I’ve always kind of felt…a responsibility to take care of my five younger siblings. And the only thing my little brother ever wanted to do was watch Star Wars, the original trilogy…over and over and over again. As soon as one of the movies would be over, I’d press the rewind button on the VCR (wow, I feel old) and we’d watch it again. It became something we did together, and we’re both big Star Wars nerds now. And while so many other girls I’ve known have fallen for Luke (though, Mark Hamill did NOT age well), I was a Han Solo girl, through and through. He was the funnier one, the more handsome one and he was more confident than Luke was. Even though he was still trying to figure out things himself, he was confident and he found his way through it. And he was just plain funny. He always had some of the funnier lines in the movies…and he had the cocky attitude as well, its so irresistible.

Princess Leia: I love you
Han Solo: I know

1. Jace Wayland Morgenstern Herondale Lightwood

images-1

Its funny, a week ago, I would have put the picture of Jace on the cover of City of Lost Souls as the picture. I was happy with Jamie Campbell Bower, but not 100% convinced. After meeting him at WonderCon this past weekend, and seeing him in person, I’m convinced. Sure, he’ll never be my perfect Jace that I pictured in my head but he’s great and he’s going to be a perfect Jace. I found the Mortal Instruments in the summer of 2010 when my boyfriend and I broke up for a period of time and I was miserable and needed some serious distraction. I picked up these books, literally devoured them in a matter of a few days and fell in love with Jace Wayland (and many other names depending on the book). He was that guy that you didn’t want to like but couldn’t help but liking. He was cocky and super arrogant and had that sarcastic humor that you don’t want to find funny but its totally funny. And he’s so hot, so so hot. And exactly what I needed at the time, which is why he’s probably stuck with me. Its like Maia says in City of Ashes, “Some guys look at you like they want sex. Jace looks at you like you’ve already had sex, it was great, and now you’re just friends-even though you want more. Drives girls crazy.” So. True. And he says some of the sweetest things, once he lets his guard down, and lets people in. Once he loosens up a bit on the bad boy-ness and the cockiness, he is such a loyal friend to the Lightwoods, and so protective of Clary, and just brave as hell. Sigh.

There is no pretending,” Jace said with absolute clarity. “I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I’ll love you then.” -City of Glass

All right, well apparently I have a type: hot, sarcastic, cocky, arrogant, ambitious, bad boys or something haha. I like the boys who have that sexy arrogance and don’t give a crap attitude, but when you look, are totally sweethearts. Man, am I obvious haha.

What are some of YOUR favorite fictional crushes? As always, share in the comments!
