Everyone says I’m a bad girl. They’re only partly right—I don’t let fear rule me, and I certainly don’t care what people think. But I draw the line at sleeping with the enemy. As the daughter of Briar’s head hockey coach, I’d be vilified if I hooked up with a player from a rival team.
And that’s who Jake Connelly is. Harvard’s star forward is arrogant, annoying, and too attractive for his own good. But fate is cruel—I require his help to secure a much-coveted internship, and the sexy jerk isn’t making it easy for me.
I need Connelly to be my fake boyfriend.
For every fake date…he wants a real one.
Which means this bad girl is in big trouble. Nothing good can come from sneaking around with Jake Connelly. My father would kill me, my friends will revolt, and my post-college career is on the line. But while it’s getting harder and harder to resist Jake’s oozing sex appeal and cocky grin, I refuse to fall for him.
That’s the one risk I’m not willing to take.
Just a quick side note – I didn’t know that Elle self published these books. She’s SO good and so popular and the Off-Campus series was so great and popular. I am so proud of her and proud of all the badass indie authors out there, especially in the romance genre, for kicking ass all the time. There’s been some serious sh*t going down in the romance world right now and I just wanted to say that real quick.
OMG I adore Jake Connelly so much. I love a cocky athlete, which is probably why I read so much sports romance because all the guys are so damn cocky and its so hard not to love them all. But genuinely, I do love Jake and I love that his dilemma in the book is that his life is great and he’s afraid that the addition of another great thing will throw everything off. Its a real issue. Its super self sabotage. He does all the wrong things even though everything is so great for him. God, how many people do this all the time?? Its like a car crash on the side of the freeway and you literally cannot look away and that’s exactly what it is to watch Jake fall in love with Brenna.
I love Brenna because I understand what its like to be Brenna. I wish I had the balls that Brenna has in the entire novel, from beginning to end. I wanted to be a sports journalist for ages, because, like Brenna, I was raised my dad to love a sport, but for me, it was baseball. I wanted to cover the Angels, I wanted to go to the World Series. But it is a crazy, competitive, and a super insanely sexist world. Elle’s portrayal of what its like to be a girl who likes sports, who knows sports and wants to be a professional in the sports world is so real and so genuine. It feels so incredibly familiar and it made me so frustrated at times because I 100% understood what Brenna was going through. I love that we got a sports journalist in this series and I love that it was Brenna.
At the end of the day, I come to Elle and Briar U for my romance. I’ve been in such a slump this month, I’ve started about eight books and I literally cannot get myself to keep going in any book but the second that I remembered the newest Elle book came out, I bought it, downloaded it on my Kindle, and I finished it in a matter of hours. Elle writes compelling characters, characters that are always crushworthy. I like this series because its college and because its young adults trying to figure things out and I’m still trying to figure my shit out. I like that she knows hockey so well and she writes it SO well and she makes the hockey in the book so damn exciting. I’m never ever disappointed by Elle’s book and this was yet another really amazing book.
