My Nerd Christmas Wish List

So I know I’m nearly twenty-five years old and I’m just a little bit too old for Santa Claus and Christmas lists.

But that doesn’t really stop me from thinking of the really cool things I’d like for Christmas.

So I made a short list of the things I’d like for Christmas. All nerdy, find of course. I am putting the prices on them, ampoule not because I’m telling you to buy them for me…because that’s crazy! I’m doing it because I know that a lot of you would like the same things I do and I’m helping you all out :) Click on any of the titles and it’ll take you to the Amazon page.

Indiana Jones: The Complete Adventure

All four movies in one box set and on Blu-Ray sounds pretty awesome to me. I deplore the fact that Crystal Skull has to be in there but eh. The other three are so good that its oka. There don’t seem to be a ton fo extras in this set but its all of them in one convenient set, and its the only blu-ray available and that’s pretty awesome.

Amazon Price: Normally 60 dollars, but on sale for 40 right now!!!

Game of Thrones: Seasons One and Two

I borrowed season one from a friend of mine and I loved the show right away. I wasn’t really able to get into the books but the show is great, pure fantasy…and lots of sex. Not that that is a reason for me to watch it haha but it adds flavor to an already cool show. I haven’t watched the second season, which is why both are on my Christmas wish list. I need to catch up for the third season and I’d really like to add these epic seasons to my growing collection of TV and movies.

Amazon Price: Season One varies, Season Two is 50 dollars

Wonderbook with the Playstation Move Bundle

Here’s the thing: I’m not really dying to have this. I never really liked the Wii or the Kinect and I wasn’t jumping up and down for the PlayStation Move. I don’t really need it. However, they came out with the Wonderbook which pairs with Pottermore, J.K. Rowling’s interactive Harry Potter site, so you can keep your own House and wand. You get to experience what its like to be a witch or wizard in at Hogwarts. JKR said its the closest thing a muggle can have to an actual spellbook. Plus it includes all new content from JKR herself. Not. Fair.

Amazon Price: around 100 dollars.

The Dark Knight Trilogy

I’m not the biggest Batman fan in the world (that title could possibly belong to my best friend’s fiance) so this simple box set is perfect for me. It includes all three movies (which are super badass) and some bonus features. Christian Bale makes an awesome (and sexy, sexy, sexy) Batman and the stories are all great. Christopher Nolan is a Batman god. Definitely something I want in my collection. Especially because of its awesome, awesome price.

Amazon Price: 29 dollars

Once Upon a Time: Season One

This is definitely one of my favorite shows. From the very first episode, I was captivated and drawn in. The alternate fairy tales are awesome, especially kickass Snow White who saves Prince Charming as much as he saves her. The season comes with a bonus features and I just have to have this for my collection. I know, this is on Netflix but there’s just something better about actually owning a season of your favorite show to pop into the dvd player whenever you so want.

Amazon Price: 45 dollars

WonderCon Tickets/Anime Expo Tickets

I love going to conventions. Its one of my favorite things to do as a nerd. Unfortunately, conventions are not cheap. Between tickets, parking, cosplays, food and all the amazing things you can buy there, your wallet starts to feel a little empty. So having tickets to these conventions bought as a gift would be pretty cool. Anime Expo tickets are available now and are pretty cheap when compared to other conventions: 40 dollars a day, or 55 dollars for all four days (at least until January 1st, when the price goes up). WonderCon tickets aren’t quite on sale yet but should be on sale soon, considering it hits Anaheim in late March.

The Heir Chronicles Box Set

I am on a serious Cinda Williams Chima binge right now. She is so incredibly talented and I literally consumed her Seven Realms series. Pure, awesome fantasy. I became addicted fairly quickly. The Heir Chronicles is her other series, fantasy but set in the modern world, unlike the pure fantasy of the Seven Realms. However, Chima is such a good read that I have no doubt that that series will rock just as much.

Amazon Price: 15 dollars

Harry Potter: Page to Screen: The Complete Collection

If only, right? 600 dollars easily spent. Not. More proof of sucking money out of dedicated, addicted, ready and willing Harry Potter fans. Its 600 dollars! that’s ridiculous. Sadly, this does not stop me from wanting it. It has several books, telling the story of the ten years of film making magic to create the 8 movies we love so much and it even has a prop replica book of the Monster Book of Monsters. It looks cool as hell. It has all these never-before-seen pictures and never-before-known information all about the making of the movies. Its a Harry Potter nerd’s wet dream. Did I mention its 600 dollars? Doesn’t stop a girl from watching though…

Amazon Price: 600 dollars

Harry Potter Ultimate Editions: Prisoner of Azkaban, Goblet of Fire, Order of the Phoenix, Half Blood Prince, Deathly Hallows Parts 1 and 2

No, I do not want the extensive HP wizard colletion. Its 350 dollars, and I have some beef with it. One, all the digital copies for the movie are Ultraviolet. Take it from me, Ultraviolet sucks. Its super lame and you need an account to watch your digital copy and I just want to watch it on my laptop without any hassle. Two, the only extended editions available are the first two movies. Lame. So I want all the Ultimate Editions of the movies instead. I already have the first two, so I need 3 to 7. I like the cases they come in better and the special features and the books and so on. Forget the huge collection.

Amazon Price: around 40 dollars

Doctor Who: Limited Edition Gift Set

All six seasons on DVD, plus the specials plus three documentaries plus the 11th Doctor’s sonic screwdriver. It was 175 dollars on amazon (which is an amazing deal) but it sold out fast and is now sold by outside vendors for about 350 dollars. However, I have seen it at Best Buy for about 180. The fact is, its Doctor Who in one wickedly great box set-all six seasons. I don’t care that they’re all on Netflix…I want them for myself. And it has the specials and a sonic screwdriver. If you can pick it up at Best Buy for the cheaper price, its an incredible deal, you can’t get any better than that!

So that’s it. That’s my nerdy Christmas list and it would be really cool to see any of those under the Christmas tree.

But the things I want the most for Christmas: some good grades this semester, good times with my family, relaxation, a wonderful time with my boyfriend and yummy, yummy food. Oh, and to not get sick on Christmas. I always seem to do that.

I mean, what else could I want?

What about you guys? What are you hoping the good ol Saint Nick brings you for Christmas? Or what you’ll get for Hanukkah or Kwanzaa or what ever other holiday you may celebrate in the month of December?

As always, let me know in the comments :)

Best Nerd of 2012…So Far…and What I Can’t Wait For!

Now that we have reached early July, information pills I’ve realized that half the year is over and damn, approved it went by fast. The beginning of 2012 has brought me many awesome things and there is still so much to look forward to these next six months. So now that I am smack dab in the middle of the year, I figured a nice countdown of some of the fantastic things that the year has already brought me and what I am most looking forward to.

Best Things About 2012…So Far

5. Avengers movie

The Avengers was an unbelievably amazing movie and of course it would be with nerdtastic Joss Whedon at the helm. It is packed full of action but not in an extremely annoying Michael Bay kind of way. It has drama, it has humor. All the actors do just a fantastic job. And let’s face it, Captain American, Ironman, Hawkeye, Thor and Bruce Banner made very geek girl out there feel a little hot and bothered. Then the awesome Avengers de Mayo party held by the ever fantastic Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army was superb, especially since my team, Team Hawkeye, won :D

4. The Secret World of Arrietty

I feel like its been ages since a new Studio Ghibli movie has been released so I was dying with excitement to see this one. I would definitely say its one of my favorites (after Howl’s Moving Castle, of course). It’s based on the great children’s book, The Borrowers, by Mary Norton and its sooo much better and more fun than its 1997 counterpart. Although…Tom Felton as a little redhead? Adorable.

3. City of Lost Souls by Cassandra Clare

This is the fifth installment of Cassandra Clare’s Mortal Instruments series and I warn you, if you have not read them all yet, there are definitely spoilers ahead. (SPOILER ALERT!!!). Now, the series is about Clary Fray, a normal teenager who suddenly gets swept up in the world of Shadowhunters, half human, half angel demon hunters. It’s no surprise when it turns out that she has Shadowhunter blood and the story unfolds from there. The series was originally supposed to be a trilogy and the third book ended pretty perfectly, in my opinion. Then the 4th book came out and I absolutely loathed it. The plotline seemed to focus more on whether Clary and Jace were going to have sex or not and less on actual demon hunting. I really debated on getting Lost Souls and I’m glad I did. It doesn’t quite reach the epicness of the first three but it did redeem the series. Now if only Alex Pettyfer was playing Jace and not Jamie Bower…

2. Hunger Games

I love love love LOVE Hunger games and I could not wait for the movie. I couldn’t wait so badly that when it did eventually come out, I saw it three times in one week. And I really liked it. I thought it was a good adaptation. The book centers on a country, Panem, that uses the Hunger Games-a contest to the death featuring the nation’s children-to keep its citizens subdued. Its a sort of brutal idea, kids fighting other kids to the death and the nation watching it on television like a fun reality show. I was impressed on how they did it, portraying the violence but not throwing it in your face so all the young readers could still go to the a movie that wasn’t rated R. The icing on the cake was the epic Capitol party held by the Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army, where I represented District 4 and partied all night long.

1. Once Upon a Time

I know that the season started in 2011 but it finished in 2012 so pooh on your technicalities. This is the best new show, easily. The cast was perfectly selected and each episode kept me watching. It follows Emma Swan, a 28-year-old bail bondsperson, who meets her son, Henry, for the first time after giving him up ten years ago. She soon gets swept up in the life of Storybrooke, Maine, where cursed storybook characters have been living the past few decades, unaware of their real identities. Of course, Emma is the only one who can save them. It was so awesome to get alternate views of fairy tales and hell, I loved the romance. My pony-wanting, prince-seeking, little girl princess heart loved this.

Best Things in 2012…To Come…

5. Clockwork Princess

Please keep in mind that this is NOT a legitimate cover for this novel. The cover has not yet been released and this is a cover generated by a fan on Okay, now that that’s taken care of. this is the last installment of the Infernal Devices series, the Victorian age counterpart to the previously mentioned Mortal Instruments. This one follows Tessa Gray, a young girl who gets pulled into the Shadowhunter world when she discovers she has shape-shifting powers. I LOVE this series even more than I love the Mortal Instruments. I’ve been counting down the days til the last novel since the previous one came out this past December. I can’t wait to see how this ends as Tessa battles Mortmain and his robot army and figures out exactly what she is. This will hit stores in December of this year.

Just kidding, I’ve just learned that this has been delayed until March 2013. I’m still leaving it on the list though. I dare you to argue with me :D

4. Once Upon a Time, Season Two

I’m warning you, if you have not watched Once Upon a Time and you plan to (and why wouldn’t you plan to!), I would warn you not to read further. I’m gonna spoil allll of season one for you. So now that I’ve warned you…I seriously cannot wait til season two. Season one ended on a crazy note! Emma finally believes in her destiny, finally breaks the curse, all the fairy tale characters remember who they are. Snow and Charming are back together finally! Belle and Rumple are finally together! Regina is finally going down! What could go wrong? Everything, apparently, as Rumple returns the magic to the land and you see that sly little smile from Regina and then it ends. I can’t wait to see how this changes everything. Regina is obviously not going anywhere and now that the people of Storybrooke know who she is, how is that all going to play out? And I can’t wait to see Emma accept David/Charming and Mary Margaret/Snow as her parents :D. Once Upon a Time seems likely to return in October of this year.

3. Doctor Who, Series 7

Now that I’ve busted my way through the first six series in about a month and now consider myself a Whovian (and I’m considering a Tardis tattoo…hey, why not?), I am dying to have the Doctor back. This season should be great and the previews for it have looked exciting so far. Halfway through this season, the Doctor’s current companion’s Amy Pond and Rory Williams will depart and the Doctor will get a new companion played by Jenna Louise Coleman. I’m looking forward to seeing how awesome Jenna is and I’m dreading the tears that will inevitably come as Amy and Rory depart, in what has been revealed to be a heartbreaking departure involving the freaky Weeping Angels. Rumors are abound as to when it returns but it seems likely to return between September and October of this year.

2. The Hobbit

Its been nearly ten years since The Return of the King came out in theaters. Now, Peter Jackson is likely to impress us once more with his amazingness (and yeah, that’s word. try and dispute that, I dare you, I’ll just ignore you haha). The Hobbit is one of my favorite books, this one is a little simpler than the LoTR series. Where the LoTR is all about saving the very existence of Middle Earth, The Hobbit is about Bilbo going on an adventure. Yes, it’s dangerous and yes, he gets his hands on the one Ring, that leads to the LoTR series, but its more adventurous by far. I’m seriously looking forward to it, and you know I’ll be out there at midnight, cosplaying as a Hobbit or Elf. I’m also really excited to see Martin Freeman as Bilbo because I already love him as John Watson on Sherlock. This movie comes out December 14th.

1. The Casual Vacancy by J.K. Rowling

Now I know its going to be completely different from Harry Potter. I get that. I’ve accepted that. From what I’ve read, its a political thriller about a mysterious murder in a small town and how it reveals a whole web of conspiracy in the town. Definitely in a different realm of wizards and magic. But I’m so excited for it. I love reading mostly everything I can get my hands on and JKR is a phenomenal author. She’s a magician with words. So the fact that this is the first thing she’ll have put out since Deathly Hallows back in 2007 has got me going fangirl crazy. I’m sure that its going to be wonderful and I’m hoping that the millions of HP fans out there will accept it as a separate thing from Harry Potter. Nothing will ever touch HP in my mind and heart but I have every faith that this will be a great novel. I’m counting down the days til the release on September 27th.

So those are the things I’m most looking forward to for the rest of the year, and I’ve just hit the tip of the iceberg of exciting things coming. I mean, there’s a TON of movies coming out, like the new Batman and Leo Dicaprio’s The Great Gatsby and Logan Lerman and Emma Watson in Perks of a Wallflower . There are epic video games coming out and so so so much more. There is so much to look forward to. What are some of the best things about 2012 so far and what are you guys most looking forward to? As always, let me know in the comments. And thanks for reading guys!

E3: My Favorites

Its that time of year guys. Summer. The time of the big cons, find the ones I always live for and love: E3 and San Diego Comic Con. This is when my full nerd comes out; when all the announcements for new games, books, movies, etc. come out and giving me nerdgasm after nerdgasm. With E3 basically wrapped up (and of course, I didn’t go. You have to be so-and-so’s second cousin twice removed to get into that guy haha), I’ve compiled a short list of what excited me the most, what I’m looking forward to the most.

Disclaimer: This is a list of things that I personally am excited for. This is in no way the best of the best of E3. You’ll notice that I’ve left out the new Halo stuff, the previews of Black Ops 3, and virtually nothing to do with Nintendo. I’m not a hardcore gamer, nor do I ever claim to be one. There are video games out there that I enjoy playing and I get excited for but I’m not an authority or an expert at all. So don’t judge me on the silly video games that I’m looking forward to.

All right, nerd rant over. Sorry. Whew.

Moving on to the seven things that caught my eye at this year’s E3.

7. Lego Lord of the Rings

I know, I know, I know, another Lego game. Lego just seems to churn them out the way Danielle Steel churns out terrible cheesy romance novels. In the beginning, the Lego games were awesome, unique and fun. As they’ve released more and more (Indiana Jones, Batman, Harry Potter, etc), they haven’t been as fantastic as they were in the beginning. However, they are extremely fun…especially for kids and for those, like me, who aren’t the best at video games. (Hey, I love video games, but it takes me AGES to beat one and play one, I just suck haha). So the Lord of the Rings Lego game actually looks pretty awesome. The developers explain that they built the entire Middle Earth world to play the entire saga and instead of going from level to level, you actually walk the land. Sort of like a little kid RPG. And to make it even better, instead of having those ridiculous ‘voices’, they actually speak. Which means, yes, yes, indeed we will be able to see a Lego Gandalf say “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!” Fantastic.

6. Wonderbook

Now don’t get me wrong. I love to read. I love books and I love the SMELL of books. And for the most part, I’ve been pretty happy with the Kindle. As a person, who reads super fast, the Kindle works wonderfully for me. Now the new Sony Wonderbook isn’t exactly tickling my fancy but it is kind of intriguing. The idea is that this device is book-shaped “controller” that will be complemented with the Playstation Eye and Move controller to help make books more of a virtual reality. That sounds both interesting and weird at the same time. Bringing to life those familiar images of loved books is the reason we go to see the movies based on books. This could be similar. But I also like reading books because I have my own idea in my head of what this character looks like and what that place looks like, etc. So my interest in this device is only half there. However, the Wonderbook has one thing going for it. One of the first platform books available for this device is the Book of Spells, which is going to be linked with J.K. Rowling’s Pottermore, the interactive Harry Potter website that is hosted by Sony. This hands-on book is going to have new Harry Potter info and stories, including Aesop-like stories of wizards making mistakes, which ultimately leads to a teaching lesson. This alone, as a HUGE Potterhead, is almost enough for me to spend the money. This is also the only reason it got the number six spot. I’m just not interested enough in this for it to be any higher but it does have Harry Potter. That, is enough, to catch my interest.

5. Playstation All Stars Battle Royale

Let’s be honest: this is exactly like Super Smash Brothers for Playstation. Its Sony’s answer for it. Now other games that are similar have been created before but this one has been getting way more attention, mostly because it is Playstation and because it includes notable characters like Kratos from God of War, Sly Cooper, Mael Radec from Killzone 2, Fat Princess, etc. Just announced Monday at E3, Nathan Drake from the epic Uncharted games (LOVE those games), and Big Daddy from the equally epic Bioshock games will be joining the teams. Now the preview and images already released from this game reveal a cool looking fighting platform and the levels look pretty creatively designed. I’m excited for this game because games like this involve my favorite style of gameplay: button mashing. I’m a damn good button masher.

4. Assassin’s Creed III

I’ve never played any of the Assassin’s Creed games before. I know, insert shocked and angry gasps here. I know, I know. I’m sure it’s a great game. I’ve watched my sister and brother play the games and they look awesome. The reason that this game catches my interest is because of when this game takes place: The American Revolution and the continuation of American history after that. From what I’ve seen and read about, it includes a new protagonist named Connor and the gameplay, while different, is still familiar enough that fans of the series will feel comfortable. Those who have demoed it have said the gameplay is extremely impressive and that the new naval warfare aspect of the game is pretty awesome. I’m looking forward to finally experiencing an AC game, especially in this time period. As a history major, and a complete nerd for the American Revolution, it’s looking like a game that I definitely want to pick up on October 30th.

3. Star Wars 1313

This game is in extreme early development, and there wasn’t a huge demo to preview at E3 but the concept of this has got me excited. Most Star Wars games have been pretty disappointing to me. I wasn’t a fan of the Force Unleashed games and I haven’t had a chance to play Old Republic. This game, though, has caught my attention. For one, it breaks away from the games centered around the Force, with the protagonist being a bounty hunter instead of a Jedi or Sith. The identity of the bounty hunter is yet unknown but the content is said to be more mature than any of the previous Star Wars games and the images already released are GORGEOUS. I’m definitely looking forward to the future and am hoping for more content to be released soon.

2. Resident Evil 6

I’m sure this comes as shock that this is my number two, especially when you see my number one. Leave me alone. Moving on…literally, I’ve been waiting for this game forever. FOREVER. Resident Evil 5 came out about a billion years ago and I’ve been dying for some good ol awesome Resident Evil gameplay. So the Resident Evil gameplay at E3 got this girl super excited. Now in this story, they’re bringing back two of my favorite characters, Leon and Chris, (hubba hubba), and introducing a new character, Jake. Each of these characters are in a separate storyline: Leon is in the U.S. working with the president during an attack of bioware terrorism, Chris is in China, fighting a similar attack, and Jake is in a European country called Edonia, meeting up with an old character that fans will be excited to see. Eventually all these stories will meet up and interweave and you’ll be able to play as all the characters. Game Developers say that they’ve fine-tuned the co-op, making it possible to jump in and jump out of gameplay without having to wait for a cut scene. They also touch on being able to play as a foursome when the different characters meet up in the story. Watching the various gameplay looked really cool, the good ol’ fashioned fighting style is there but you can see that that are new attacks coming, especially in the melee category. I honestly haven’t seen anything to make me feel wary about this. There This game is going to be awesome, and I’m seriously counting down the days until it comes out on October 2nd.

1. LittleBigPlanet Karting

Carting isn’t exactly new to the realm of gaming. One of the most iconic games in all of video game history is Mario Kart. And of course this game is probably going to be along the same lines. However, this is the most exciting to me for two reasons. One is that I’m a huge LBP fan. These are my favorite games. They are fun, silly and hard enough to be a challenge but not so hard that I get frustrated. And the second reason I’m looking forward to this game is because it has something that Mario Kart doesn’t have, something that is going set it apart from that game. It has the customization of the other two LBP games; you can customize maps, characters, karts and weapons. This is what makes me anxious for this game to come out. This is my most anticipated game of the year and the highlight of my E3.

Now I know that I missed a lot of things and I’m sure there are some of you out here, glaring and yelling at your computer screen. Well, let it out in the comments and tell me what has gotten you all excited at E3?
