Tuesday Top Ten-Favorite Fandom Labels

Hey guys, treat how is it going everyone? I hope you’re all having a wonderful week so far.

I want to warn you! Its five days into NaNoWriMo, order and both myself and Christina Marie are participating, this web in our different ways. Well, because of this, there may be less posts. We are going to do our best this month to keep up as best as possible, and that you’re incredibly patient with us.

This week’s Tuesday Top Ten is the top Ten Fandom Identifiers that I love. You know, when you meet Harry Potter fan and they immediately ask what house you are in? Or a Percy Jackson fan will ask you what god you’re a child of? You know what I’m talking about!

So here are ten groups that I am proudly a part of and why! Share with me what yours are!

10. Mage from the Tortall Series

Image 10

Here’s the thing about the Tortall series: its like a YA version of Game of Thrones, except that Tortall came out first. But who is keeping track? Anyway, the point is that there are knights and soldiers and noble ladies and merchants and all of that fun stuff. And all I can think of is, do you really want to put ME of all people near a sword? I tripped and twisted my foot when walking down Main Street in Disneyland. I’d probably chop my own head off, no lie. But the one thing that always stood out to me was the mages. I loved that they were born with this magic and it was deep within them and they had to learn to wield it and control. I also love that your Gift would be a certain color. I’d like to think mine would be pink. Because that would be SERIOUSLY awesome. But yeah, I would be a mage if I lived in Tortall. I would make it so that I was born that way. Somehow.

9. Elf from Lord of the Rings

Image 9

I’m not going to lie, a huge reason why I want to be an elf is not even about the immortality or the beauty or even the sexy sexy Orlando Bloom as Legolas. Those are all great reasons as well but my main reason is…do you see where they live? Its like a beautiful Impressionist painting. I remember seeing it the first time in The Fellowship of the Ring and dying of happiness at how incredibly beautiful it is. If I lived forever, Rivendell is definitely on the list of places to spend that forever. Plus, like I said before, they are incredibly beautiful and full of a ton of wisdom, which, you know, totally describes me. And hair…its like a damn shampoo commercial up in there!

8. Pokemon Trainer from Pokemon

Image 8

Okay, is there anything else to be in that world? Seriously? Like, the people who work in the Poke Mart or who are working in the casino or Safari Zone and that…why would you do that! Why would you not be a Pokemon master? Or trainer? Or something? I just want to own all the Pokemon and have a Pokemon party, and dress them up in a little costumes and name them all after book characters…and…okay I’m slightly obsessed with Pokemon. Its fun. I first got into it when I was a kid and I’ve continued to love it. I think it was just kind of a fun concept as a kid, going out into the world, on an adventure, and catching these amazing creatures.

7. Amity from Divergent

Image 7

It was really hard for me to pick a faction in Divergent because I want to be Divergent! I think, legitimately, everyone is divergent and embodies multiple characteristics. But in the spirit of the book, I eventually thought Amity fit kind of well, and I took a test and I was mostly Amity with a splash of Erudite. The Erudite value wisdom and knowledge, which seems to go hand in hand with some of the other ones you’ll see on this list. But Amity really fits me too. Amity is the peaceful and the friendly. They created the peace serum. They grow food and love to eat awesome foods, and they were bright colors and they just kind of sound like hippies. I am a very peaceful person, really, I hate drama and fights and confrontation, and I love food. Plus do you see their symbol? Its absolutely beautiful!

6. District 4 from The Hunger Games

district 42

I realize that no matter what district you live in, it pretty much sucks because everyone is hungry and poor and could possibly compete-and die-in the Hunger Games. But even so, I choose District 4. I wanted to pick whatever district that was California since this is future-USA but when I saw a map of Panem, it was under water…you know, like most dystopian novels. So the next best thing was district 4 because its the fishing district, which equals ocean! Gotta have my ocean. And I only eat fish when it comes to meat so that works out too! Plus is Finnick Odair is my favorite character of the entire series so I’ll hang out with him in that district.

5. Huntress of Artemis from Percy Jackson

image 5

Yeah, I wouldn’t be a child of god or goddess. Mostly because since I was a kid, I was obsessed with Artemis. I got really involved with feminism and women’s rights when I was young and Artemis was like a badass Greek feminist, and she had her cool pack of hounds, and her silver bow, and denounced men. Its all just awesome. I do realize that if I actually became a Huntress, I would have to give up my boyfriend and that really sucks, and that part is kind of lame. Boys are awesome, at times. At least to look at, if nothing else. But I like the idea of having a bow, and working with Artemis. She has the best stories and she’s the goddess of hunting (which makes no sense as a vegetarian but whatever) and the moon, and I love her. I would follow her for sure.

4. Companion of the Doctor from Doctor Who

Image 4

Come on! I could be MYSELF! I could literally be myself! I want the Doctor to show up on my doorstep, and open the door and say “Allons-y” or “Fantastic!” or “Geronimo!” and I would shout back “YES!” and run right down into the TARDIS, in pajamas, most likely. I would be so excited. I wouldn’t even know where to go first, but I would let the Doctor get us lost through time and space, and do amazing things. The best part of Doctor Who is the beauty of the impossible and the encouragement of imagination and creativity, and it would be amazing to be a part of that. Being with the Doctor is like having your wildest dreams come true, and so much more. Plus I could spend lots of time exploring the TARDIS, which would be super fun, and maybe visit the ginormous library, or take a dip in the swimming pool. Sigh.

3. Shadowhunter from The Mortal Instruments

image 3

I would KILL to be a Shadowhunter. Its such a cool thing to be. I mean, sure, werewolves, and vampires and warlocks and faeries are all really cool. There are a lot of really cool things in The Mortal Instruments but being a Shadowhunter is top dog. They are badass, they get to wear black all the time and no one says they’re stupid or a mall goth or anything. They have the Runes, which are beautiful and make them fast or agile or help with their precision, and things like that. They get use all kinds of cool weapons like daggers and knives and long seraph blades and bows and whips, and they keep the world safe from demons. They live in beautiful churches, and travel around the world, and the homeland, Idris, is beautiful and perfect. Plus they have cool names like Herondale and Lightwood, Fairchild, Morgenstern, Penhallow, and such. Its so beautiful. I also think I could be myself if I was a Shadowhunter. Sara Shadowhunter.

2. Jedi Knight from Star Wars

image dos

What I really want to be is Princess Leia but that’s not really a category in Star Wars to be so….a Jedi Knight is really awesome. Plus, Leia eventually gets Jedi training, and can use a lightsaber and such so THAT is awesome. I’ve been watching Star Wars since I was a child, and I always thought Jedis were so great. They were warriors but peaceful warriors. Warriors that are in control, and wield these awesome weapons, made of LIGHT, like lightsabers. They have the power of the Force. They get to navigate the coolest vehicles, like X-Wing fighters and such. And their costumes are pretty awesome too. I would also like to think that I’d be part of the Rebel Alliance, a hidden Jedi come to save the Galaxy from the evil Galactic empire.

1. Ravenclaw from Harry Potter

1683_353580488096153_904545234_n

My ultimate identifier. I have a Doctor Who tattoo and a Star Wars tattoo but I have a Ravenclaw tattoo. This is one that I embrace all the time. I represent it all the time. I try to put blue and silver into my every day outfits. I tend to pick out blue when it comes to choosing colors. When I get married, my colors are going to be blue and silver. I feel like I represent Ravenclaw in so many ways. Smart, always reading, wanting to learn, keeping to themselves, because they’re wrapped in learning and books. Its so me. They live in the highest tower, facing the mountains and little professor Flitwick is the head of House. I have so many amazing friends, from different walks of life and with different talents and careers, that are all Ravenclaw. We are unique and awesome. Wit beyond measure is man’s greatest treasure.

Nerdy Childhood – Pokémon

Welcome back to Nerdy Childhood where we take a look into our crystal ball and look into our past! Last week we looked at Alice in Wonderland, cure and this week we are looking back at Pokémon!

When I think back at my own childhood my mind goes straight to Pokemon. It was a huge part of my life and still is. To be honest this should have been the first entry Nerdy childhood but I was so hooked on Alice in wonderland because I had just reread it.

Pokemon was the first game I EVER got. I remember going to cash converters (Like a pawn shop but more socially acceptable) and buying a gameboy black and white. You heard me. Black and white. Now that’s not because I am old, it was because my family at the time was a very low income family and I had saved up ALL my pocket money for MONTHS to buy this gameboy. Just the gameboy. It seems like such a small thing, kids now a days get iphones and 3DS’s all the time from such a young age. I was soooooo happy to buy this gameboy black and white. It didn’t come with any games but I was so happy just to have it. So I waited and waited, saving up all my pocket money again and then finally could afford Pokemon blue. Yes, pokemon blue. My first ever gameboy game.

This game was THE BEST pokemon game ever created! Now children these days may challenge this with their fancy graphics and 3D technology but they truly do not know how amazing it was to go from a computer game to a game which you could take places. A handheld device instead of something you had to sit and play. You could play it outside, in your room, in a car (on a loooooong car ride), you could play it anywhere. And that is exactly what I did. I played this game everywhere! I took it in the car, to school, when we went on family beach trips, out to see my grandparents. I was attached to this game. To think, it was released so long ago and I still have my gameboy black and white, and my pokemon blue in a box in my wardrobe. It still has its internal battery (unlike most of the older generation pokemon games), it was made to last the long haul. I have since upgraded my gameboy situation, obviously… to a green gameboy colour which use to be my brothers, then to a pink DS but I really want to get a 3DS. Heaven forbid! Lord do not strike me down for wishing to cross the generation barrier!

Let’s just say I am 20 (which I am), and that when I was a kid pokemon had just come out, I mean I went to the movie release. So my first pokemon generation was gen 1. It’s just like in dr who. You first generation will always be YOUR generation. Then gen 2 came along, I was still pretty young, I was like “Oh yeah, there’s some pretty cool new pokemon to catch, after all, got to catch them all to be the pokemon master,” and that was fine. Then gen 3 came out and everyone was like “Oh hell no! There are not pokemon!” But I was still pretty young so I accepted the challenge yet again to catch all these pokemon! What had seemed like a manageable task of 151 pokemon was now a whole lot more then that and almost impossible for a 10yr old to grasp.

I, like so many other children my age got into this hopeless poke-pression. We would never be pokemon masters, not if they kept ‘finding’ these new pokemon! And as a 10yr old, I wondered, “How had they not found all these islands yet?” I mean they had pokemon which could swim, and yet every time I got CLOSE to becoming a pokemon master they would find a new region of pokemon!

Let us talk about generations of pokemon for a second. For those of you confused, who maybe were not as obsessed with pokemon as I was, or maybe not at all. Maybe you are reading this to understand why all the weird kids at your school kept fighting with these virtual things, arguing about whose team was stronger. Well generations are tricky. For people who grew up when pokemon was first released the first generation is the official generation. This included the games, Yellow, Red, Blue and Green. Then the second and third gen are widely accepted. These were games like Silver, Gold and Crystal, then the third gen was Ruby, Sapphire, Leaf Green, Fire Red and Emerald.  Then it all gets down to opinion! Because this is where the second generation of children got interested in pokemon, they started watching the 4th gen, and they played the 4th gen games. Like Diamond, Platinum, Pearl, HeartGold and SoulSilver (not to be confused with silver and gold). Then the recent 5th gen which was black and white and black and white 2. After all that you would think there can not be more pokemon! SURELY they have discovered them all! But you would be wrong! Just a few days ago they released X and Y! Raising the total pokemon count to 694! What child in their right mind thinks they can become a pokemon master now? I may not be a child, but I WILL be a pokemon master… As soon as I get my hands on a 3DS.

download

This is apparently generations 1-5.

For those of you around my age, you may remember the Poke rap. Now I don’t know about you but I have that on my iPod… Not gonna lie. I try and rap it every time I hear it. Not gonna lie. I’m not that great. BUT I still try! As a kid I remember practicing that so much, I wrote down ALL the names in order and practiced saying them really fast. I could do it. Maybe as I got older I stopped raping and it all went down hill. I can not rap the poke rap any more. But I will keep trying! I cannot let my 10yr old self down by looking like a complete loser by not being about to do the poke rap.

I set you all a challenge. If you read this all the way to the end, comment just one pokemon which you love. From any generation at all. And most of all, do not let your 10yr old self down. Learn the Pokerap!

Nerdy love y’all,

Kat.

Tuesday Top Ten-Hottest Animated Crushes

So lately I’ve been running out of ideas for the Tuesday Top Ten, for sale and I’ve been wanting to make them more than just book related. I’m trying to bring people in to make sure I’m not always writing about books. And the biggest fan of this particular segment is my dad, information pills easily. So I asked him for help and he gave me a really good one: cartoon crushes. Of course, store he had a stipulation and it had to be characters NOT in Disney movies.

I tried. I really did. And I failed miserably. So sorry, Dad, this is my Tuesday Top Ten of cartoon crushes, that includes Disney characters :)

I’ve always discovered…I have weird taste…

Seriously though, if you have Tuesday Top Ten ideas, please please PLEASE help me out :) Until then, enjoy my top ten!

10. Ash Ketchum from Pokemon

Eight

I feel like this a little bit awkward because Ash Ketchum is supposed to be like ten years old but I’ve been obsessed with Pokemon since I was a kid so let’s just go with that. I always thought it would just be the coolest thing in the entire world to be able to have a Pokemon and go on adventures and all of that. I still watch the first season (I have them on DVD!) and love them. Its cheesy and ridiculous but I love it. I think my “crush” on Ash comes from wanting to be his traveling buddy. And maybe I could keep him from always getting rid of his Pokemon…and maybe even steal that cute little Pikachu!

9. Li Chang from Mulan

Nine

Come on, is it any wonder that Mulan falls in love while pretending to be a guy and trying to save China? Shang is the tough, often shirtless captain of a team of hopeless soldiers and yet manages to whip them into shape. And yeah, he gets super pissed off when he finds out that Mulan is a woman, but he doesn’t kill her, like the law demands, and eventually he realizes, awww, he loves her too. That’s pretty badass, and let’s just say, Disney? Way to go with those shirtless scenes. Seriously. Way. To. Go.

8. Dimitri from Anastasia

Ten

I know that I was not the only girl to totally fall head over heels for Dimitri in the movie Anastasia. Okay, first off, the name Dimitri just SCREAMS hot guy. Then he’s totally the boy who saved her life and then brought her home, and he does it for reward money but then realizes its actually her and can’t do it, and its too sweet for life. Then, as I got older, I realized John Cusack, the ridiculously adorable John Cusack did the voice for him and I fell even more in love with this animated hottie. Dimitri. I would runaway from a princess title too to be with that guy ;)

7. Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty

Seven

I love that every time I bring up my crush on Prince Phillip, my boyfriend points out that he doesn’t talk for majority of the film. And hey, maybe that’s the appeal there. It would be nice to have a boyfriend who just swept you off your feet, danced with you in the woods, saved you from a crazy dragon lady and never said a word to argue with you. Works perfect for me. He has it all, the good looks, he’s a great dancer, fabulous fashion sense and he must be a good enough kisser to wake Aurora up from her sleep. I probably wouldn’t say no to a stranger that hot who came up to me and wanted to dance with me in the woods.

6. Twister Rodriguez from Rocket Power

Six

Okay, this one is weird and I completely acknowledge that. I blame this on my obsession with this show when I was a teenager. I think it was a hint at what my taste would be like in the future. I don’t like the popular boy, the one that always gets all the attention. I like the best friend, the goofy one. I like the one that maybe not everyone notices right off the bat, but then as time goes on, you realize that he’s the bets one of them all. Twister was kind of the joke character of the show but I loved him! He was goofy and hilarious and I loved that he hated to be called by his real name and I loved him WAY more than Otto Rocket. Way more. So yes, I know this is a weird one but don’t judge me haha.

5. Roger Rabbit from Who Framed Roger Rabbit?

Five

Okay, I know, I’m so weird! I LOVE Roger Rabbit. I love how ridiculous goofy and hilarious he is. So yeah, I totally have a crush on Roger Rabbit. So sue me. Me and Jessica Rabbit obviously have something in common, and she’s on every top animated girl crush list I saw out there so…ha! Okay, that was a ridiculous argument, but I adore Roger. He makes me laugh and he makes all these ridiculous mistakes but in the end, he ends up a hero and when I was a kid, I loved that. I also really loved the ride at Disneyland so voila, Roger Rabbit. Don’t judge me.

4. Batman from Batman the Animated Series

Four

Okay, nothing against Christian Bale, because seriously I think he is a SUPER hot Batman, but the hottest Batman there is is the Bruce Wayne of Batman: The Animated Series. I watched the hell out of this show as a kid (and have been wanting to watch it again lately) and I always had SUCH a crush on Batman. Maybe it was just the voice of Kevin Conroy, who also voiced him in the two Batman Arkham games, because I was just always super into Batman on this show. Plus he also always saves the day, and without any actual super powers and his Batmobile is the BEST.

3. Flynn Rider from Tangled

three

I’m sorry Rapunzel but I just can’t call him Eugene Fitzherbert.  There is absolutely nothing sexy about the name Eugene. But come on, Flynn Ryder is SO hot. He is the bad boy gone good for LOVE. Its cheesy as hell but its amazing. He has an awesome sense of humor, is cocky as hell but is brave and adventurous and falls in love with Rapunzel and gives her the best 18th birthday a girl could ever want. Oh yeah, and he totally saves her life and she saves his life and its all super cheesy but its a Disney movie so we excuse it. But I love Flynn Ryder, and all the super attractive boys cosplay as him, and so that’s a win-win situation in my book.

2. Howl Pendragon from Howl’s Moving Castle

Two

Oh, Howl. Oh, Howl, Howl, Howl. You heartbreaker. He goes around, breaking hearts, stealing them but in the end, its a plain girl named Sophie who ends up stealing his. He’s magical with a fantastic taste in clothing and a bravery that comes out at the best moment. He’s selfish and vain and stubborn and spoiled but he’s real. He’s such a real character, and he’s kind of an emo boy and I’ve always kind of had a thing for emo boys, and when his hair turns black instead of blonde, I kind of found myself cheering a little bit. Then there’s the whole magical powers thing. You’ll win me over anytime with magical powers.

1. The Beast from Beauty and the Beast

One

Honestly, there’s one huge reason why Beast (not Adam) gets the number one spot and that is because Belle is my favorite Disney princess, because I always felt the closest to her as a girl, and he gives her the best present a boy could ever give a girl. I’m serious, what a better present than giving her an ENTIRE LIBRARY!!!!! I would have fallen in love with this huge, monstrous bear, lion man if he gave me an entire room, stacked to the ceiling with BOOKS. Okay, and the Beast is also really cool too. He overcomes his anger and selfishness and all that, and becomes a better person and breaks his curse, but ends up being way more attractive as the Beast than he ends up being as Prince Adam. I’m just saying. Look at him in the spiffy blue and gold outfit he’s got on. Totally looks better as a Beast. And he gives her a LIBRARY! Enough said.
