WhatANerdGirlSays Comic Con Wrap Up!

This past weekend was the San Diego Comic Con extravaganza in San Diego, recipe California. Comic Con has been going on for over forty years. I have gone before, cialis 40mg of course, and this year, I was unable to attend. I was really bummed at this for a very long time, but I was a bridesmaid in my best friend’s wedding, and honestly, it was an amazing time. I caught the bouquet and it was amazing, and I’m incredibly happy for her.

1011472_405412292912972_2128884030_n

But I know so many of you guys were unable to attend as well! So I wanted to gather as much news as I possibly could to share with you guys, who couldn’t go or may have been too busy to keep up, or just couldn’t keep up with the crazy amount of news that was coming our way this weekend.

Just a note: all articles linked will be from Hypable, which is one of my favorite sites to follow, and kept me SO updated during Comic Con.

So here we go:

Catching Fire Full Length Trailer is Released

We finally got our first full length trailer for the next installment of the Hunger Games movie! This movie will be hitting theaters in November. Cast members like Jennifer Lawrence, Josh Hutcherson, Lenny Kravitz, Jena Malone and more were available during the panel and also for signings as well. They talked about different scenes they filmed and the various development of their characters.

Supernatural and Supernatural Spin-Off Series in the Works

url

I don’t know much about this show to be completely honest, because I’ve only watched the first couple seasons. From what I can tell, they talk a lot about the return of some characters, the idea of fallen angels, and the relationship between Dean and Sam. If you click the links above, you can find out way more information than I am able to share!

Details are in the bare minimum for the newly announced spin off show but apparently a new character will be introduced toward the end of the season that premieres on October 15th and the spin-off series will be based on this character.

The Marvel Panel Blows Everyone Away!

loki-comic-con-surprise-appearance

So Tom Hiddleston LITERALLY comes out, in FULL Loki costume, and milks it up, acting in his character for the entire couple minutes that he is up on stage. This was literally the only appearance he made so what an amazing rare treat that was. Of course, after, new footage of the Thor sequel was shown, the movie slated for a November release.

There was also cast appearances made for Captain America: The Winter Soldier and a full trailer shown. Hopefully we get the trailer VERY soon, because this is a movie I am definitely looking forward to.

The cast of Guardians of the Galaxy also made a SURPRISE appearance, where Karen Gillan of Doctor Who fame debuted her new hairstyle, and there was also a trailer.

Joss Whedon also came out and revealed the title of The Avengers sequel: The Avengers: Age of Ultron. He came out, showed an extremely short trailer that basically showed the Avengers reflected in the helmet of the villain, Ultron, and the title, and that was it. The film is set to release in May of 2015.

Surprise! Cast of X-Men: Days of Future Past Make an Appearance!

url

This is so exciting. I absolutely LOVED the first movie (its the only X-Men movie I own) and I haven’t heard much of what is going on for the second movie. A huge number of cast members made a surprise appearance at Comic Con, as well as director Bryan Singer. Appearances included: Jennifer Lawrence, Evan Peters, Peter Dinklage, Sean Ashmore, Nicholas Hoult, Michael Fassbender, Hugh Jackman, Ian McKellen, Patrick Stewart, Halle Berry, Anna Paquin, and Ellen Page.

Peter Dinklage, of Game of Thrones fame, has confirmed that he will be paying Bolivar Trask in the movie.

You can watch the entire surprise panel, which I believe, includes the full length trailer. It is low res but its better than nothing!

Doctor Who and Matt Smith’s Last Appearance

url-1

So Matt Smith basically is emotional feels the entire Comic Con weekend as he says good bye to everyone, as he just announced recently that he is leaving the show. The main focus of Doctor Who at Comic Con was the seriously anticipated 50th Anniversary special, which will be featuring Matt as the 11th Doctor and Jenna Louise Coleman as the current companion, but also David Tennant as the 10th Doctor and Billie Piper returning as former companion, Rose Tyler. Steven Moffat was on board to tease like crazy, telling us that he’s been lying his ass off for months about the special and that we could all be presuming wrong. They showed a trailer for the special, which hasn’t been released to the public yet, that includes banter between the two doctors, comparisons between their sonic screwdrivers, Daleks and more.

The Vampire Diaries: Season 5

TVDComicCon

Nothing overly new was announced at this, but they talked about the stuff that happened in season four, and talked a little bit about season four, what they liked about what happened, how they are going to explain some of the stuff, how other things are going to work out. I know this is super vague but I glanced through it quickly because I haven’t finished season 4 yet! Paul Wesley says he’s enjoying being a little evil, they have a plan for Jeremy’s story and more.

The Originals: A Vampire Diaries Spin Off

url

I don’t want to say too much because this article has a TON of spoilers if you haven’t finished watching the previous season of The Vampire Diaries but they obviously talked a lot about how this show came about and what to expect from it. The show was really built from the love that Daniel, Joseph and Claire have garnered in their characters on TVD. There is going to be a lot going in this spin off show, including episodes of flashbacks in previous TVD episodes, but told from different points of views. Read more above for full details!

Once Upon a Time-Season 3

url

Several videos were shown during the Once Upon a Time panel, including a preview for Season 3 and a parody of Good Morning, America but instead, Good Morning, Storybrooke. The teaser trailer shows an interaction between Leroy (Grumpy) and what is presumed to be Ariel (SO exciting). I am SO excited about this show, especially with so many of the characters traveling to Neverland, and a spinoff show premiering as well. You can watch all the different videos at the link above!

Ginnifer Goodwin says that Snow is focusing on herself this season, finding a balance to the good and bad in her. Lana Parilla says Regina makes her favorite kill this season. A love triangle between Emma, Hook and Neil is HEAVILY hinted and we will see Peter, the Darlings, Neverland and Tinker Bell. They also discuss including a LGBT relationship, but doing it in a very real and genuine way!

Good news as well: there won’t be so much mish-mash episodes like last season. There will be 11 episodes, a midseason break and then 11 episodes. Thank goodness.

Once Upon a Time in Wonderland

Once-Upon-a-Time-in-Wonderland-Comic-Con

We learn more about the Once Upon a Time spin off show. We focus more on Alice, but in the adult version of the character that we have grown to know in the adaptations that have already been made. The show is more of a cousin to Once Upon a Time, and less of a spinoff show. They say for now, there won’t be crossovers, but they haven’t completely ruled it out. An announcement that was made was Naveen Andrews, of Lost fame, is going to play Jafar.

Divergent: Movie News and Book News!

"Divergent" Panel - Comic-Con International 2013

The cast and author, Veronica Roth, gathered to talk about the movie and the last book coming out in November. The film has just finished up, and will be releasing in March of 2014. They talked about favorite moments during filming and who has been signed on for part two, Insurgent, though they couldn’t say too much, due to spoilers. Veronica Roth also confirmed that Allegiant, the last book, will be told in due point of views, Tris and Four. They also showed the very first footage of the film to be shown, though this has NOT been posted online.

Straight from Hypable, a description of the footage shown: The extended clip began with Tris’ jump onto and from the train as a new Dauntless with her friend Christina, and then continuing to volunteer and jump off the roof into Dauntless headquarters. The clip also introduced Four helping Tris off of the net, and Tris’s selection of her new identity. The clip continued into a sizzle reel of Dauntless training, complete with impressive flips, gunfighting, and crowdsurfing. Other snippets included a shot of Tris taking the Faction test and receiving her tattoos, and a shot of Kate Winslet as Erudite leader, Jeanine. The reel ended with Four hurling his knives at Tris, the final knife leaving her with blood on her ear.

Superman and Batman Movie Crossover!

superman-batman-new-logo

It was announced by director, Zack Snyder, this weekend that a Batman and Superman crossover movie, entitled World’s Finest, was in the making. It is being said as a sequel to the recently released Man of Steel, and Henry Cavill will be back as Superman. No word on who would play Batman, but Christian Bale has already he will not play the Caped Crusader again. Not much else is known, though this is the official logo, but they are aiming for a 2015 release.

Joss Whedon and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Agents-of-Shield-ABC-premiere-date1

One of the most highly anticipated shows, Agents of SHIELD made a surprise premiere of the pilot episode of the show, which will premiere on September 24th. Joss Whedon and the other guests were a bit reluctant to reveal details but Hypable did have a chance to sit down with them, and you can read all about it, if you click the link above.

The Amazing Spiderman 2

url

The directors, and a few members of the cast including Andrew Garfield and Jamie Foxx, hit Comic Con and discussed some of the questions that have been lingering in fan’s minds about the sequel. Jamie discusses what he wanted to accomplish with his character, Electro, and they talked about the need for both Gwen, played by Emma Stone, and Mary Jane Watson, played by Shailene Woodley. Woodley says she won’t return for part 3, but the producers say “time will tell.” Andrew Garfield also talked about Peter’s relationship with Gwen, and the possibility of Spiderman being gay, and exploring his sexuality. Read more above, for some really amazing insights to the new movie. The movie comes out May 2nd, 2014.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones Panel

url

Not much was revealed as far as the movie goes, with the release date only weeks away, but the cast discusses filming and playing their different characters and things like that. Jamie talked about the vulnerability of Jace and how Clary brings that out in him. Kevin mentions how they all sort embody their characters and Godfrey Gao confirmed this weekend that the Magnus and Alec kiss that occurs during the time of City of Bones, but was written as an outside story, will be in the film. Very exciting. Check out the entire panel.

Game of Thrones

url-2

The cast and author George R.R. Martin gathered to talk about the previous season, the nominations that were handed out to them for the Emmys and what we can expect in the future. They mostly talked about all the drama and tragedy that occurs at the end of the previous season, entitled the Red Wedding,w here basically all the characters die. Martin says killing all these characters really gives actors more opportunities to explore their characters more, and break boundaries. Emilia was surprised to find out she had garnered a nomination and the actor who played her on-screen husband came up on stage to congratulate her. They talked a little about Sam and Jon, and how their characters are, and their motivations. George also talked about the two remaining books in the series and the possibility of a prequel. If he makes it that far ;)

The Legend of Korra Season Two

korra-season-2-feature

Now, I just saw Michael DiMartino a few weeks ago, and he was so tight lipped about The Legend of Korra, season two, but now I realized they were waiting to reveal all of this at Comic Con. They showed the entire first episode of season two, and announced that the show would return in September and will be called “Book 2: Spirits”.

Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince Cover Reveal!

harry-potter-half-blood-prince-new-cover

I wrote a couple weeks ago about the anniversary covers of Harry Potter, with new artwork done by Kazu Kabuishi. I showed you all the covers that had already been revealed and now we finally have book six! The books are being released on August 27th, in a paperback box set. The last cover, for Deathly Hallows, will be shown at a party in New York City, celebrating Harry Potter’s birthday (and Jo’s!) on July 31st. It is open to the public, so if you are a Potterhead, and in the area, head on over!

Ender’s Game

"Enders Game" And "Divergent" Panels - Comic-Con International 2013

New footage of Ender’s Game, a Comic Con exclusive, was shown at the convention, with appearances by the director, producer, Harrison Ford, Hailee Steinfeld, and Asa Butterfield. The trailer is mostly about Ender, of course, and his training, but apparently there are glimpses of other characters as well. The audience asked a lot of questions about the film, especially of Orson Scott Card, but those were deflected easily. There were also a lot of questions aimed at Harrison Ford about Star Wars and Indiana Jones but those were deflected as well, but that makes a lot of sense. The guy is SO ready to move on.

Sherlock Season Three!

url

Neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor Martin Freeman were able to attend Comic Con but they had recorded a video message for the fans in attendance. However, Steven Moffat and the other guests, like Mark Gatiss who plays Mycroft Holmes, made up for it. Moffat says that Sherlock’s “death” has already been hinted at in season two and that the John and Sherlock reunion was his favorite part to make. However John is NOT going to be happy with Sherlock, of course, but his anger will be resolved by the end of episode one; they don’t want to drag it out. Moriarty is actually dead, and we will see more of Mycroft and Sherlock’s relationship as well as the relationship (not romantic) between Molly and Sherlock. The stars have also signed on for season 4, but of course, no word on that.

Firefly Video Game!

url-1

Oh yes, you heard that right, Browncoats. There is officially going to be a Firefly video game, releasing in the Summer of 2014. It is called Firefly Online and will be available on Android and iOS devices. There is not much more information besides that, but if you click the link, you can watch the trailer and you can find out how to register on the website for official updates!

*     *     *

There was SO much more on Comic Con, and I’m sure I only covered a drop in the bucket of what I’m sure was an amazing weekend. I hope that this was still helpful for everyone who was unable to make it to the convention or able to keep up with the constant updates.

I just wanted to shout out to my friend Becky for trying to get me Divergent and Hunger Games swag, what a rock star you are for even trying! I want to do a HUGE shout out to my girl, Erin, from That One Geek Girl, for thinking of me this weekend and doing the most amazing thing in the world by getting me a personalized autograph by the flippin gorgeous Godfrey Gao himself. Yes, the sexy man playing Magnus Bane in City of Bones. You are amazing, Erin, and I love you! You are such an amazing friend.

Tuesday Top Ten-Favorite TV Shows

Hello, this all. I hope that you had a wonderful weekend. Mine started off on a sour note but turned out to be okay :) I kept myself busy spending time with my boyfriend, my friends and a few books!

But now its that time again, time for the Tuesday Top Ten.

I’ve always told myself that I’m not a big TV watcher, that I’d rather read books. And while that is definitely true; I would rather pick up a novel and read it than turn on the TV and watch, that doesn’t change the fact that there are some seriously awesome TV shows out there. So today’s Tuesday Top Ten is

My Ten Favorite TV Shows

Honorable Mention: Glee

glee-season-1

The reason that Glee gets an honorable mention on this list is this reason: I adored the first two seasons. I own the first two seasons. The first season had a bunch of awesome songs and a fantastic quirkiness to it. Lea Michelle is just plain BRILLIANT in the first season as awkward but talented Rachel Berry. I like season two as well because it retains that quirkiness, and my old celebrity crush, Darren Criss, before fame got to his head and he broke my heart. Now, the show lost its quirkiness, the songs aren’t good (I mean, seriously, they did Rebecca Black’s Friday!) and Darren Criss just isn’t the Starkid that I used to know…Alas, this show just ended way too soon for me. Moving on…

10. Switched at Birth

switched at birth

Okay, so this show is seriously cheesy as hell and all that. For the most, ABC Family does have its share of cheesy shows. But I really like this one. Bae Kennish, dark haired and dark eyed, convinces her family to undergo genetic testing with her very light haired, light eyed parents and POOF! She learns she doesn’t actually belong to her parents. Instead, she was switched at birth and her birth mother, Regina, took home the Kennish baby, named Daphne Vasquez. Daphne, of course, looks JUST like the Kennish parents and doesn’t fit her Latina name in the slightest. To shake things up a bit, Daphne is deaf, due to illness when she was a toddler. Regina, her mother and Daphne all move into the Kennish’s pool house and drama breaks out as the two families learn to live with each other and live with the mistake that was made. Its juicy and drama filled and completely addicting.

9. Pokemon-Season One

pokemon-season-1-indigo-league

When I was twelve years old, this was the coolest thing in the world…to every kid out there. Not only was this a exploding hit show but it came paired with a card game AND a video game…not to mention a few movies that hit the actual theater, instead of just straight to DVD…or was it still VHS back then….Anyway, the story falls Ash Ketchum as he journeys away from home (at ten years old!) to become the greatest Pokemon master there ever was! He has to catch them all, all 150 Pokemon and train them the best he can, to fight in battles (which seems a little cruel…) so he can win all the badges he can in the Indigo League. Now, if you’ve played the game, you want to curse the show…how is it possible that Ash has a Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Squirtle AND a Charmanader? Ridiculous haha. But it still remains one of my absolute favorite shows, one that I actually own on DVD, and I continue to enjoy watching it, even if it isn’t the best show in the world.

8. The Vampire Diaries

THE VAMPIRE DIARIES

This is a VERY recent development in my TV love but it already is included in one of my favorites of all time. Its unbelievably cheesy and of course it has my least favorite plot device ever: the love triangle. But its sort of guilty pleasure, you know? Elena Gilbert leaves the ordinary life in her town, before vampires Stefan and Damien reappear after decades of traveling and it doesn’t take long before she falls in love with Stefan. Of course, falling in love with a vampire doesn’t mean things are going to be easy. Combine that with the fact that Elena is special on her own; she is a doppelganger and her blood holds special powers, and you have a TV show just chock full of very attractive people and a ton of drama. I’m not one for vampire stories but this one is seriously addicting, and its much easier to stomach when you consider that Elena is a much better female character than Bella Swan.

7. Madoka Magica

mahou-shoujo-madoka-magica-2002205

Another recent addition in the past six months, thanks to my brother and an extremely fun trip to Anime Expo to meet the voice actors of the English dub version. So far, its only the one series, where young Madoka goes to school with her friends Sayaka and Hitomi until she meets the strange creature, Kyubey. Kyubey comes from another world, and he can grant any wish you desire, ANY wish, and the trade is that you become a Magical Girl, a girl capable of defeating the witches of the world. Sounds like fun, right? Sounds like a great trade…you get a great wish and you basically become a super hero in the meantime. But, of course, this isn’t how it ends up. Kyubey is sharing secrets from the Magical Girls, and Madoka begins to learn of them through Sayaka, and other Girls like Kyoko, Homura, and Mami. What looks like a sweet and bubbly anime turns out to be a heart wrenching, action packed, dramatic anime that leaves you floored. I just recently went and saw it on the big screen, in its movie version and it was announced that a second installment, a second season/movie will be coming sometime this year. Excitement!

6. The Walking Dead

TheWalkingDead_Wallpaper_02

Okay, I’m sure there aren’t a lot of people out there who actually DON’T watch this show and there’s a reason for it. We’ve all seen the zombie movies; there’s only about a thousand of them in there. And the thing about this show is that it really isn’t that different from the others. The basic premise is still the same. But there are small things here and there that make it different; the fact that everyone has the zombie virus, that Lori gets pregnant, that Shane basically goes insane. Its more than just a zombie show. Its a character study. Sure, the world is overrun by zombies and you need to survive and everything is simply just going to hell. But its the characters that get you in, its the characters that keep you watching because you watch them as they make decisions and screw up, and go insane or stay calm and then go insane. Sometimes the best stories are told in the characters in themselves and The Walking Dead is proof of that, and that is what keeps me watching.

5. Sherlock

1753466

I started to watch Sherlock because I had just finished watching Doctor Who and I was ready to watch a ton of British television. That combined with the fact that Steven Moffat was the writing brains behind it, was enough to get me to watch it. And I LOVED it. It only has two seasons so far, and each season is only three episodes, though they are long episodes. For those of you who have no idea what this is, its an updated, modern version of the stories of Sherlock Holmes. And no, I’m not talking about the completely uncomparable US version, Elementary. Forget that show even exists. Sherlock. Sherlock Holmes is extremely smart, extremely lacking of any kind of tact and extremely obsessed with solving crimes and riddles that others can’t. Paired with his trusty sidekick, John Watson, they solve crimes and have a blast. And get into a TON of trouble, of course. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman have a great chemistry together and you completely believe in their partnership and friendship. Its been AGES since season two has premiered and we probably won’t get season three until 2014. Sad. Face.

4. Firefly

Firefly

Is there anything that Joss Whedon does that isn’t instant magic? I highly doubt it, and if there is, I don’t want to know about it. Think about it; this TV show aired a decade ago, and people still love, the Browncoats are still out there in large numbers and their numbers are constantly growing. The show never gets old. There’s something about the hodge podge crew of the ship Serenity that can keep you watching. There is someone for everyone on that ship. Captain Mal. Zoe. Wash. Inara. Jayne. River. Kaylee. And on and and on. I think Joss really had something going with this show and that maybe the time wasn’t right for it. Science fiction has always had its fan base but in the last few years, fantasy and science fiction has grown immensely in popularity and it contributes to Firefly’s surge in followers. Its a fantastic show; it has politics and human interest and love and action and drama and humor. So much humor. It is one of my favorite shows because of how quickly you are able to become attached to this rag tag crew and how sad you are when you realize that all you have are those fourteen episodes and a movie.

3. Arrested Development

AD-Widescreen-Wall-arrested-development-2053936-1280-800

I would like to thank my boyfriend for this one. I had never even HEARD of this show when we started watching it together five years ago. I didn’t watch a lot of TV five years ago, mostly because I didn’t realize what was out there amongst all the crap that is on TV. My boyfriend, who was not my boyfriend at the time, and I were hanging out, had nothing to do and so we started watching Arrested Development because it’s his favorite show and he insisted I watch it. It’s about the Bluth family, living in Orange County, California (where I’m from!), going from a rich family to a poor family and the hilarity that ensues. When I first watched it, I didn’t get it. I mean, sure it had its moments where it was funny but I just didn’t get it. But then we started watching it more and thats when it really started to be funny. The hilarity of the show is in the characters and the “inside jokes” if you will. Once you know these characters, the jokes about them become 100 times more funny adn the show is just pure comic brilliance. It is so very sad that this show only lasted three seasons (how is this possible when crap like Jersey Shore lasts for YEARS?) but happily, the show will return to Netflix in a new season this spring. I definitely am counting down the days.

2. Once Upon a Time

Once-Upon-A-Time-once-upon-a-time-28309802-1920-1080

Finally, a show I found on my own, with no help from anyone and that I’ve been watching since the beginning. I remember seeing a commercial for the show and wondering what the hell is this and wow it looks so awesome! It tells the story of Emma Swan, the daughter of Snow White and Prince Charming, though she’s unaware of this. She’s living in our world as a bailbondsperson, until the son she gave up for adoption comes looking for her and brings her back to his hometown, Storybrooke. Storybrooke is the home of all the fairy tale charcters that you’ve grown up with: Snow White, Prince Charming, Jiminy Cricket, Red Riding Hood, Belle, Rumplestiltskin, Cinderella, and on and on. But the bad thing is, they don’t know who they are because the Evil Queen is there and she brought them there as punishment. Its brilliant. The best part of it is the alternative fairy tale that comes along with this; its so different from those Disney classics that we all grew up with. But it also brings in a lot of themes and story points from the original stories that were passed on down through oral traditions, in folk and myth tales, before they were ever thought of as children’s stories. Its fairy tales for grown ups and it rocks.

1. Doctor Who

Doctor_Who_Wallpaper

LONGEST RUNNING SCIENCE FICTION TELEVISION SHOW EVER. 2013 will be the 50th year of this amazing, amazing show. And while I have yet to go back and enjoy the awesomeness of the original series, I am so in love with the 9th, 10th and 11th Doctors and I can’t get enough of this television show. It took me years to sit down and watch it, even though people were telling me for years that I would enjoy it. I finally sat down, queued it up on Netflix and literally watched six seasons of Doctor Who in about a month. It was amazing. And its because its so addicting and so much fun. The Doctor is an alien from the planet of Gallifrey, and he is a Time Lord, with a blue police box called the Tardis, that can travel anywhere in space and time. And where the Doctor goes in the Tardis, there is bound to be some universal catastrophe going on and the only person who can ever save the day is The Doctor. He’s serious and he’s brilliant and brave and hilarious and still very, very flawed as well. And he always has a band of companions that both help him and keep him from being lonely. Even though I’ve only been a Whovian for about a year, I can’t imagine what my life would be like without the Doctor.

So, that’s my list of favorite TV shows. I hope that the list changes over the years as I discover more shows and more shows hit the TV. There’s so many awesome ones out there that I love that I didn’t put on this list, like Game of Thrones and Gossip Girl, and my newer shows like Suburgatory and Arrow. There are great stories out there and I can’t wait to see more of them.

What is YOUR favorite TV show?

*      *      *      *      *      *      *

MidSeason Finales: Once Upon a Time and The Walking Dead

I both dislike and like midseason finales of shows.

I like them because they usually wrap up some part of the story that has been conflicting since the beginning of the season but then they introduce something new that is a cliffhanger that literally leaves you going WHAT THE HELL JUST HAPPENED??????

Which leads to the reason why I don’t like midseason finales. They always leave it off in a torturing cliffhanger that makes you desperate to find out what happens next. And of course, viagra approved the show won’t return for a month, two months, three months. It’s completely horrible. Some of the greatest TV writers can drive you insane. (I’m looking at you, Steven Moffat).

So two of my favorite shows just had their midseason finales yesterday: Once Upon a Time and The Walking Dead. And I was actually pretty impressed with both.

Once Upon a Time-The Queen of Hearts

I love my Once Upon a Time but I will say this: stories have been dragging like crazy. For instance, I think that Snow and Emma were stuck in the old world for way too long. I feel like it just lasted way too long, and they kept introducing new characters, with Hook and Aurora and Mulan. Don’t get me wrong: I like them but it seemed unnecessary. And Aurora annoyed the HELL out of me in the beginning. I wanted to see all the characters we already know deal with the curse breaking and all that. One of my favorite episodes so far this season was Child of the Moon, where Ruby deals with finding out she’s a werewolf in the past, and deals with her first transformation in Storybrooke. That’s exactly the kind of episode that I was hoping for this season.

So finally, in this episode, things are finally getting wrapped up. Regina is finally starting to show some changes, helping to bring Snow and Emma home, even though she knew how much Henry wants Emma as his mom. Emma and Snow finally make it home. Hook and Cora are on their way to Storybrooke. Honestly, if the whole Hook and Cora on their way to Storybrooke on the ship was supposed to be a cliffhanger, its not. They were going to find their way in, somehow or another. There was no way they were going to stay behind. They’re the villians this time around, since Regina is on the path to goodness.

However, we’re left wondering whats going to happen with Prince Philip. We know that he is not completely gone and that they is a way to get him back, so that is the mission of Aurora and Mulan. Okay, I admit that’s kind of exciting because there’s obviously an adventure going to happen there. But here’s the thing: Mulan and Aurora are both in love with Philip which leads me to my least favorite thing ever: the dreaded love triangle. My honest opinion on that whole storyline? I ship Aurora/Mulan :D We could use a homosexual couple in the show and I’m down for that one…and it avoids the ugly, unnecessary, annoying love triangle.

And hello? What the hell happened to August? You know, Pinocchio? He was kind of a big character and we saw him turn into wood at the end of last season and when Geppetto goes to see him, he’s gone. And that was it. We’ve literally NEVER seen him again. I mean, I thought he was the love interest for Emma, but then we have Hook and it’s just all weird and doesn’t make sense and its annoying. So I’m hoping we see more of that coming in to play in the second half of the season.

I’m glad we’ll finally get to the topic of Baelfire though, Rumple’s son. It’s about time for that one as well. This is obviously the first thing that Rumple wants to do as soon as the curse is broken, but he can’t leave Storybrooke without forgetting who he is. Which could be a problem because then he’ll forget WHY he left Storybrooke in the first place. So I’m excited to see if they can find a way to leave Storybrooke without losing their memories, in order to find August or Baelfire. Hopefully, if Rumple finds Baelfire, it’ll help him to become a better person.

I also hope they start showing others lives, now that they know the curse is broken. I want to see Ella again and Hansel and Gretel maybe, Leroy/Grumpy and his little fairy love and so on. I want to see more of Emma, Snow, Charming and Henry’s growth as a family. I want to see more of Regina’s change. I want to focus on the characters we already have, and less on new characters.

The Walking Dead-Made to Suffer

The newest TWD episode, the last one of this half of the season, was actually probably my favorite of the entire season. There literally wasn’t a moment where I was like “my god, please make it stop”. Finally, some action is going down, and finally I’m starting to care what is going on with these people.

And Walking Dead…they know how to do a really great cliffhanger.

The scene with the Governor and his daughter Penny just further solidified my thoughts that the Governor is insane, but that he legitimately believes in what he is doing. That is the most dangerous of all. It’s bad enough that he is pretty evil, but that he doesn’t think of himself as evil is the most dangerous part. It’s like Dolores Umbridge from Order of the Phoenix allll over again.

But Michonne, man, that girl comes in and kills his daughter and stabs him in the eye! Oh my, that was so disgusting. I don’t know why Michonne felt the need to go in that room. I’m not sure what her obsession with the Governor’s daughter was…and I don’t know why she was so surprised to find his daughter as a zombie. I mean, she didn’t see that coming? Even if you didn’t know, it seemed pretty obvious. She was making the noises that the walkers usually make and yet, Michonne doesn’t get all freaked out until she takes the bag off her head. Huh?

I’m getting super pissed off at Andrea. She acts like this badass, who can handle a gun and handle all of her shit but I think she’s a scared little girl. Instead of hitting the open road, she stays with the creepy people in the town, even after she finds out that they have a sick zombie killing sport, even after she finds out that the Governor has a tank of zombie heads and a zombie daughter. I don’t know; she’s annoying as hell. She watches the townspeople cry out for the deaths of Merle and Daryl and she just SITS there. I mean, I can see why she wouldn’t say anything; she doesn’t want to die herself. But I would be out of there so fast if I were her but she just SITS there.

I’m not quite sure how to feel about this new group of people that have come in to the prison. I’m not always the biggest fans of new characters because sometimes I just don’t see the point. There is enough going on now in the story for me to not see a reason to bring in new characters. Unless they feel the need to replace all the ones that are dying. But even then, I just don’t get it. I feel like its the farm family all over again, where we’ll pick and choose characters that will stay and be important like Hershel and Maggie. I suppose we just have to see.

But that ending…leaving with Daryl and Merle’s lives on the line. I’m just saying right now: if Daryl dies, I’m done. Daryl is my favorite character; I think he’s a lot of people’s favorite character. He is badass, with that crossbow, and his southern twang and his affection and loyalty at the same time. Here he is, with that redneck accent, stabbing zombies in the face and just being plain badass. But then he turns around and searches for Sophia and Carol and goes and gets formula for the baby and feeds her. Its freaking cute…and kind of sexy too. Ending the midseason finale with the possibilty of some bad things happening to Daryl was a fantastic way to do so. I can’t wait to see what happens next in the town, what happens to Daryl and Merle, what happens at the prison and so on.

The Tuesday Three

You know there is something that I noticed today. And it’s that Tuesdays are worse than Mondays. I mean, prescription sure, hospital Mondays feel terrible after the weekend, especially when your weekend has been awesome. But Tuesdays, Tuesdays are way worse. Tuesdays are like, oh you got through Monday? Well you still have four more days til the weekend! You’re still not even close! Ugh.

Not to mention the fact that it is still in the 80s here in Southern California even though it’s nearly November and meanwhile it’s raging storms on the east coast. Signs of global warming and climate change? I’d say yes.

Lucky for you, my readers, I have the Tuesday Three here for ya to pull you out of those Tuesday blues.
1. Once Upon a Time. Episode 5
So I wasn’t the biggest fan of last week’s episode of Once Upon a Time. I liked Captain Hook, though that was mostly because he was hot. I think adding more characters that fast is a little silly. We kind of have to revisit the ones we already know to see how they are all coping with the curse being broken and the fact that they are still in Storybrooke. And it’s like, okay, another person who is pissed off at rumplestiltskin? Surprise, surprise! He tends to piss a lot of people off…
But this episode was a lot better than the previous week. Mostly because its the second time I’ve felt true pity for Regina, the evil queen. The first time is the episode where you find out what her mother did to her fiancé, Daniel. (Though honestly, her reaction and anger to Snow is so ridiculous and unnecessary). But you feel bad for her. And I felt bad for her again. Because can you imagine losing someone that you loved very much, and you’ve spent years getting revenge for his death and he comes back to life…but it’s not him? It looks like him and feels like him but it’s not. How truly terrible for Regina honestly. And Dr. Whale as Dr. Frankenstein? Not at all what I expected but okay. I’ll roll with it…
2. Walking Dead, Episode 3
Oh wow, yay, I finally actually care about this show! If there was ever a way to discourage people from watching your show, it was having slow and boring opening episodes. Lori still annoys me and Carl with a gun and taking charge doesn’t make me like him anymore than I did before. Which, admittedly, was not a lot. I feel like it’s a repeat of last season but instead of settling on the farm and making the farm a livable, safe haven, they are settling in the prison. They even have that same original dwellers don’t want to share thing going on, Hershel and his family on the farm and the remaining convicts in the prison. It’s just been incredibly boring.
However, this most recent episode leaves the group behind and catches up with andrea and her companion. They’re taken to a settlement where a man known only as the Governor runs the place and with a firm hand and some strict rules. Finally, something interesting! Something with mystery. We don’t know anything about this settlement or the people in it, or this man who runs it. Especially since he claims he is going to save a man’s company of soldiers and instead shoots them all dead. Why is that? I finally feel this spark of curiosity and when I’m curious, I care. Revolution didn’t spark any curiosity at all and so I stopped watching that ages ago.
3. The Mortal Instruments
This isn’t exactly new or anything. I’ve been obsessed with Cassandra Clare and her two book series for quite some time. But every once in awhile I go through this spurts where I’m even more obsessed. I think I’m going through one now because I just reread City of Lost Souls, there is so much talk about the movie (which has been filming and is slated to be finished with filming on November 7th) and the fact that I am dying for a Mortal Instruments tattoo. Big time.
Now I’m not going to sit here and tell you that these books are fantastically written and are going to change the world and the way we read books but they’re entertaining and funny and I have a blast every time I read them. And hey, I get a little bit fangirl crazy for Jace Lightwood. He’s sexy, funny, sarcastic and a seriously badass Shadowhunter. And I love Clary Fray, the main character because she hates sitting around and waiting for stuff to go down; she dives right in even though she is an inexperienced Shadowhunter and doesn’t know what danger lies ahead more than half the time. And there’s the fact that she is a redhead. I have a weird obsession with redhead girls :)
But yeah, I’m working on saving some money up for a mortal instruments tattoo and I just bought a shirt I designed that says “Shadowhunters” on the front and “Looking Better in Black since 1294” which Jace jokingl tells Clary that the motto for Shadowhunters is “Looking better in black than the widows of our enemies since 1294”. So good. This sarcastic and dry humor is what makes me love this character.

The Tuesday Three

I know, healing I’m the worst blogger in the entire world. I totally introduce the idea of a weekly post called the Tuesday Three and I haven’t done it in weeks. I’m horrible. My only excuse is that I’ve been working hard in school and working hard to bring you awesome blog posts.

So here it is: The Tuesday Three :D

 1. Arrow: The Season Premiere

Okay, can I just say that my motivation for this show half about the fact that it was a superhero show and half about the main character, Oliver Queen, is portrayed by the extremely sexy Stephen Amell. I mean, have you seen the guy with his shirt off? No? Just look at the picture above and that will be enough to entice you at least a little bit. Not really into dudes? Okay, well, go ahead and look at Katie Cassidy, who plays the female lead, Laurel Lance. Now, of course, Oliver Queen is a billionaire playboy until a tramatic event (a shipwreck that leaves him stranded and preceived dead for five years) changes his outlook on life. He returns to Starling City, ready to right the wrongs that the rich, including his own family, have done to the city. The first episode follows him as he takes down Adam Hunt, a corrupt billionaire. The story is a bit cliche and corny so far but the action is there, the sexiness is there and the story has enough to keep me interested. So far, I’m ready to watch every Wednesday night.

2. The Walking Dead season 3 premiere

Season Two leaves us off with a super pissed off Rick. Rick did what he had to do; he had to kill Shane, his best friend. And yet everyone reacts like he made the biggest mistake ever, including his stupid wife, Lori (come on, I can’t be the only one who wants to punch her in face…). Rick is over being Mr. Nice Guy and he is taking over this group. Season three fast forwards a good amount. Lori is SUPER pregnant, ready to pop, the group has survived the winter, pillaging abandoned houses, Maggie and Glenn are still together and somehow, Carl and Carol are trusted with guns. I liked the beginning of this season because of all the zombie fighting, and the whole idea of the jail becoming a safe haven for them. I’m still annoyed at Lori; I kind of want to tell her to shut up. I miss Good Guy Rick. But I’m intrigued at how the prison is going to work out; its crawling with walkers and now there are actual surviving prisoners in there too. Can’t wait to see where it goes!

3. Once Upon a Time: Episode Three

The first two episodes of the season had made me very very nervous. I liked them, don’t get me wrong. I was all giddy at the awkwardness between Emma and Snow and Charming. I do entirely love this show. But Aurora was annoying me and Mulan was kind of a random, weird character. Episode Three, however, totally changed my mind. There were three different stories going on: Storybrooke, the Enchanted Forest and the flashback of the Enchanted Forest. Henry is spending his time in Storybrooke, trying to figure out a way to make the hat work again. Snow and Emma are trying to figure out a way to get back to Storybrooke, with the help of Aurora, Mulan and Lancelot and, in flashbacks, Snow and Charming are trying to take back the kingdom until Charming’s mother is poisoned. I loved the interlocking stories again; I live for those flashbacks. I also liked that Emma and Snow were finally starting to make a little bit of a connection! And Snow got to be badass again. That was great. I almost cried at the reunion between Jefferson (the Mad Hatter) and his daughter, Grace. THE FEELS! And the fact that Cora, Regina’s mother, is up to no good…well, I just can’t wait til next week.

See you all next week for the Tuesday Three :) Whats been rocking your nerd world this week?

Once Upon a Time Returns!

I love fall. I love fall because it has Halloween and Thanksgiving. I love fall because the weather starts to finally cool down (not today though, viagra dosage it was up at about 104 degrees today!) and I can put on cardigans and jeans and boots but not freeze my butt off. And I love fall because some of my awesome favorite television shows come back.

Doctor Who has come back and we allll know how I felt about that.

I’m still awaiting The Walking Dead and Suburgatory. I’ve enjoyed the beginnings of Switched at Birth and I am intriqued, if not completely sold, on Revolution.

Once Upon a Time though…that’s a great show.

I watched all of season one from the beginning and I fell in love with it as soon as it aired. The basic premise is this: we all know our favorite fairy tale characters, Snow White, Prince Charming, the dwarves, the evil queen, Red Riding Hood, Cinderella, Jiminy Cricket and so on. But do we know them as well as we think? This is an alternate view of all the fairy tales, but its also a modern view too.

The story begins with a woman named Emma, celebrating her 28th birthday. As she celebrates alone, she makes a wish and her son, the son she gave up for adoption ten years earlier finds her and brings her to the town of Storybrooke, Maine. Her son, Henry, says he brings her here for a reason, a purpose. She has to set all the citizens of Storybrooke free, for they are trapped fairy tale characters.

Rewind a little bit: the fairy tale characters live in their fairy tale world. But instead of getting the happily ever after she’s always dreamed of, Snow White is threatened by the evil queen. The evil queen is creating a curse, a curse to take all the people of that world and take them to a world without magic, our world, without any memory of who they are. Their only hope is Emma, the newborn daughter of Snow and Prince Charming, who they send into our world to come back to them when she turns 28 years old.

Usually an episode focuses on a conflict in the real world while flashing back to a conflict of that character as their true self in fairy tale world. The season ends with Emma breaking the curse and the people of Storybrooke remembering who they are. However, they stay in Storybrooke and the evil and cunning Rumplestiltskin brings magic to a land that has none. The season ends.

I couldn’t handle that kind of ending! How do you do that! Think about all the unanswered questions! What is it going to be like for Snow and Prince Charming to finally meet their daughter and know its their daughter? What is that going to be like for Emma, who has been friends with these people for so long? How are all these characters going to act on the evil queen, Regina, who brought them there? What is going to happen now that the magic has returned? SO. MANY. QUESTIONS.

I was very happy with the season premiere of season two. I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. They created such a fun and altnerate universe. How would this translate into the second season.

The Good:

I liked the way Emma reacted to Mary Margaret and David becoming Snow and Prince Charming. And I loved the way they reacted back. They are so insanely excited to see her again. The last time they saw her, she was only an hour old? Maybe? Now she’s 28 years old and they are so so happy to see her; she found them and she saved them. But Emma is so reluctant. She’s been friends with them for so long, she’s seen them as equals so its kind of weird for her. It’s extremely real. I liked it so much. Its really awkward and realistic. They are feeling so much and Emma literally has a perpetual “WTF?” sort of attitude about it.

Rumplestiltskin and Belle. I mean, need I say more? Cutest thing ever.

The fact that they just don’t kill Regina. Even though she literally has made their lives a living hell, both in fairy tale world and in real world and she deserves the worst punishment possible, they don’t do it. I feel like it makes them the better people. I also hope that means they make her life a living hell before she does eventually go. The fact is, they didn’t return to their world and they’re in our world with magic and they’re pissed, everyone is pissed at her and it makes for an interesting story.

The Bad:

There isn’t a lot of bad. The only bad about this episode was the kind of messy “flashback” fairy tale parts. They are flashing to Aurora being woken up by Prince Phillip, who is weirdly accompanied by Mulan. Technically these parts are happening about the same time, instead of being flashbacks. When Regina enacted the curse, it left some parts untouched and there were some people left untouched. They hint at a safe haven where the survivors have banded together in a world torn apart. That part is interesting, kind of a little teaser for the rest of the season.

However, the Aurora, Phillip, and Mulan story with the wraith and all that was so confusing and kind of weird. I know this is alternate fairly tale, but Mulan’s presence was random and her being in love with Prince Phillip really bothered me. I also didn’t like Aurora. She was super pretty and her acting was fine but the character itself was really annoying. She was super weak, too much the damsel in distress, not at all the way they portayed Snow and Red and Cinderella. And she has this weird jealousy. She seemed very stereotype. I wasn’t into that.

Besides that though, I definitely enjoyed the episode and I am most looking forward to the rest of the season. I can’t wait to see what happens with Regina, and I can’t wait to see the sort of family bonding that happens between Emma, Snow, Charming and Henry. Its going to be a good season and I can’t wait.
