My Review:

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and it was worth the wait and I literally zipped right through it. I was lucky enough to win an eARC from Heather Riccio, who is a senior publicist at Entangled Teen (Thanks Heather!). Because it was in PDF form, it was WAY too tiny to read on my phone, my Kindle wouldn’t charge and the only logical solution was to read the book on my computer…until 4 am. That’s how good this book was. I kept reading, I wanted to see what was going to happen.

I really like the direction that Jennifer went with in this novel. I loved the dual point of views. Lately, that has been kind of a trend, with later books switching off into dual points of view and I haven’t been the biggest fan of it. But I think it really fit with the story. Daemon and Katy are into two different places and it was really essential to the story to get both points of view as they try to fight their way back to each other. It was also so nice to get into Daemon’s head. Daemon’s head is a complicated place and I think that it was seriously fun to dive in there, especially during a time like this, where he’s anger and scared and on a mission to save Katy. Its like, the best and worst of Daemon is going to come out at that moment because of her being taken and we get to see all of that from HIS point of view.

I also loved the direction that she took in this book. In the previous books, there were always these threats, but they were kind of unknown or they sort of sneaked up later in the books. They weren’t always the main focus, and the story wasn’t always wrapped around in whatever the threat was. But this book was so different. You know who the threat is from page one. Katy is taken by Daedalus and you get inside the minds of these people that we’ve really only heard about. Now we get to see first hand what their plans are, why they are doing what they are doing, and all that sort of thing. Before we really only had Dawson and Blake to go off, but now we’re really delving into it.

And, without spoilers, I really was intrigued and caught up in what was going on. I really felt there was more of a story building, more action to come, and more drama to come. I love the love story between Daemon and Katy a LOT (seriously, Daemon Black can make any girl swoon) but I felt it overpowered a lot of the stories in the other books. Not that it made dislike the books in any way but you know how I can get if the romance starts to overpower the stories. I swear, I get an eye twitch or something. This book really starts to prove that the Lux series is not just a romance book, but a seriously awesome, action-packed sci-fi novel. The amount of action, the amount of tension, the crazy stuff that kept going down…I couldn’t stop reading. Things are getting tighter and tenser and I am so stuck to the novel.

Also, the cliffhanger? I hate you Jennifer L. Armentrout (not really, of course). I thought the cliffhanger in Opal was bad, and that there was no way it could get any worse. I was so insanely wrong! I couldn’t believe it was the end. I kept trying to scroll down in the PDF. I should have known that Jennifer would want to leave me with these heightened emotions and the sudden urge to rip all of my hair off my head. I can’t believe how amazing it was. I need a release date for book #5 soon so that I can start obsessively counting down the days until I can find out what happens next.

I did have one issue, and its the reason the book gets a 4.5 out of 5 instead of a 5 out of 5. I don’t want to ruin the book, as it obviously doesn’t come out until Tuesday and I do spoiler free reviews. But something happens in Chapter 25 that I don’t agree with. I have made my opinion VERY clear on stuff like that and as much as part of me was a little happy, I still don’t agree with it. I know that sounds super vague and stuff but it honestly made me stop reading for about a half an hour before returning to the book. The rest of the book was SO good that I felt better, but every time I think of it, I get a kind of pissed off feeling. I just…I don’t like when that sort of thing happens in teen books. I don’t think its appropriate or a good example. Its just something that is a real book turn-off for me.

Other than that though, really, this was a great book. It was worth the wait and I was so excited to be able to get the eARC before the book releases on Tuesday. Now that I’ve had a chance to read ARCs of this book and Rae Carson’s The Bitter Kingdom, the only book that I have to worry about on Tuesday is Sarah J. Maas’ The Crown of Midnight.

Seriously though, definitely read this book. If you’ve read Opal though, I’m sure you’re just DYING for this book and trust me, its way worth the wait. I can’t wait for book #5…whenever that happens!
