Fictional Crush of the Week-Peeta Mellark from The Hunger Games Trilogy

In spirit with the rest of my posts this week, check I’m keeping The Hunger Games and Catching Fire trend going by featuring one of my favorite fictional crushes, this Peeta Mellark. By the time this posts, I’ll have seen it twice, and I know I’ll go to see it more times than that. It was a brilliant movie, Peeta is amazing and Josh captures Peeta SO perfectly.

As always, all Fictional Crushes of the Week will have spoilers. Sorry :(

Character Name:

Peeta Mellark

New-Official-Catching-Fire-Poster-Peeta-peeta-mellark-33706581-500-633

Book or Series They Appear In:

The Hunger Games Trilogy

The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay

Author/Creator:

Suzanne Collins

Played By:

Josh Hutcherson

Who They Are:

Peeta Mellark is the secondary main character of The Hunger Games Trilogy, the counterpart to Katniss Everdeen. He is a boy from District 12, the son of the baker, and is reaped into the 74th Hunger Games with Katniss. He has a very open and genuine attitude, and we find out in book one, that he is in love with Katniss and has been for years. He doesn’t have the survival and hunting skills that Katniss has but is incredibly intelligent, and clever, and has a way of being so genuine and sneaky at the same time. He’s caring, and sweet, and the most loving, most deserving character of all the characters in this trilogy.

Why I Am Crushing On Them:

Why would anyone crush on Peeta Mellark? Peeta is the PERFECT boyfriend in that there is literally no boy in the entire world who will ever be even close to what Peeta is to Katniss. There’s just now way. He’s kind and gentle and incredibly intelligent and he’s so loving and genuine and he is so sacrificing and real. He’s the best person in the books, which people recognize over and over again. He knows how to handle every person that comes his way. He knows Katniss and his parents and Haymitch and Effie and his prep team, and the other tributes, and everyone. He knows how to open himself up to all of them, and to gain their trust, but in such a real way. He’s not sneaky. He makes clever moves but they’re never to harm, only to help.

Plus does anyone love anyone else the way Peeta loves Katniss? Honestly? I think not. He genuinely loves her and it takes more than being hijacked by tracker jacker venom to keep him from loving her. Sure, it makes it quite difficult but eventually his love for her survives, and they survive together. Its beautiful. He’s perfection in the form of a male lead character, and I think that’s why Katniss has a hard time with him, because he’s so GOOD, and she doesn’t feel like she deserves him. Hell, no one deserves him. But it doesn’t stop him from being this week’s crush :)

Notable Quotes:

“If you die, and I live, there’s no life for me at all back in District Twelve. You’re my whole life. I would never be happy again.”“It’s not necessary. My nightmares are usually about losing you,” he says. “I’m okay once I realize you’re here.”

“I’m more than just a piece in their Games.”

“So after, when he whispers,” You love me. Real or not real?”
I tell him, “Real.”

“I just don’t want them to change me, if I’m going to die I still want to be me.”

“She has no idea. The effect she can have.”

“I remember everything about you. You’re the one who wasn’t paying attention.”

“I just want to spend every possible minute of the rest of my life with you.”

“I wish I could freeze this moment, right here, right now, and live in it forever.”

“So that day, in music assembly, the teacher asked who knew the valley song. Your hand shot right up in the air. She stood you up on a stool and had you sing it for us. And I swear, every bird outside the windows fell silent…and right when your song ended, I knew – just like your mother – I was a goner.”

“Actually I painted a picture of Rue. How she looked after Katniss has covered her in flowers. I just wanted to hold them accountable, if only for a moment. For killing that little girl.”

Book of the Week-Catching Fire

In spirit of the release of Catching Fire in theaters tomorrow (or for some of us, viagra 100mg today), pharmacy I decided to do an oldie for the Book of the Week.

Okay, I also haven’t read anything new this week. I know. Its awful. I’m trying to catch up, and I’ll have book reviews up soon, I promise! I just gotta get back in the groove!

But until then, let’s talk about Catching Fire, and why I think its the best book in the trilogy. Don’t forget to see the movie this weekend; it is SO amazing. You can read my review of the movie here.

Plot Summary:

From Good Reads:

Against all odds, Katniss has won the Hunger Games. She and fellow District 12 tribute Peeta Mellark are miraculously still alive. Katniss should be relieved, happy even. After all, she has returned to her family and her longtime friend, Gale. Yet nothing is the way Katniss wishes it to be. Gale holds her at an icy distance. Peeta has turned his back on her completely. And there are whispers of a rebellion against the Capitol – a rebellion that Katniss and Peeta may have helped create.

Much to her shock, Katniss has fueled an unrest she’s afraid she cannot stop. And what scares her even more is that she’s not entirely convinced she should try. As time draws near for Katniss and Peeta to visit the districts on the Capitol’s cruel Victory Tour, the stakes are higher than ever. If they can’t prove, without a shadow of a doubt, that they are lost in their love for each other, the consequences will be horrifying.

In Catching Fire, the second novel in the Hunger Games trilogy, Suzanne Collins continues the story of Katniss Everdeen, testing her more than ever before…and surprising readers at every turn.

The Review:

This is the strongest book in the trilogy, easily. We’ve had the world established in the first novel. We know Katniss and Peeta and the world they live. We understand the cruelty of the Capitol and the heads of Panem, and President Snow and the Gamemakers. We know all this. The Hunger Games is a great book, something that grabbed me from the very first page.

But Catching Fire takes it to a whole new level. For one thing, the entirety of Panem grows in this novel, which opens our eyes even more to the cruelty of President Snow and his government. The Victory Tour shows us all the various different districts, and I love that. I think that this is where Katniss really begins to see what effect she had, and that her effect isn’t necessarily a bad thing. All she’s ever known is District 12 and the small amount of time she spent in the Capitol. Seeing the other districts only fires her up more.

I also love that we meet so many new important characters in this novel too like Johanna and Finnick and Plutarch, and people like that. Not only does it open us up to new victors besides Haymitch, but we see how the Games have effected other people as well. Plus its good to meet characters that you can get attached to like Katniss and Peeta. My favorite character in the entire series is Finnick Odair and he’s introduced in this novel.

The Games! The Games in this novel just takes it to a whole new level too. It was scary enough in the first book, but at least Katniss seemed to feel almost at home. She knows woods; she can’t hunt and she can take care of herself. Not only is she in the unfamiliar territory of the jungle but the arena also has that clock twist to it, which is awful! A new horror every hour? No thank you! Crazy killer monkeys, jabberjays that sound like your loved ones being tortured and poisonous fog? Its insanity.

I think the most important part of this book though is Katniss’ transformation. She goes from being focused only on herself, her familiy and her own survival (which is NOT a bad thing at all) to being concerned about so much more. She becomes concerned with Peeta, and Haymitch, and her prep team, and Cinna. She even begins to be concerned about the other tributes, even though they’re trying to kill her. Remember who the real enemy is.

Lastly, I think this book has one of the BEST cliffhangers ever. I remember reading it and wanting to throw the book across the room. How could this possibly be happening? What? What?! WHAT? I couldn’t handle it. Luckily enough for me, Mockingjay was coming out within a month, and I didn’t have to wait too long to find out. But an epic cliffhanger, and they nailed the cliffhanger in the movie, just an FYI.

Rating:

5 out of 5 Stars

Recommended or Not?:

Of course. And I recommend seeing the movie too, which is out in theaters tomorrow!

Catching Fire Fan Camp and Red Carpet Premiere-Day 3!

Finally! The day I’ve been waiting for!

It was an absolutely EPIC day and I am so excited to share it with you guys.

Day #3:

5 am: My friend Jade wakes me up. Its time to put all the stuff away, link and get packed up to leave. 5 am is incredibly too early to think about this sort of thing, but somehow I manage to get it done!

6 am: The security guys come around to give us our numbers for the red carpet. I was number 104, which wasn’t too bad actually! We were instructed to come back at 3:30, which was great, because we were all so tired!

1456517_554268971328634_1698777930_n

I love that you can see my ticket (the yellow one) from the City of Bones red carpet. I was #2 for that one and was proud of that, and I like keeping it in my phone!

7 am to 2 pm: Sleeping. Eating. Showering. The basic needs of a human being that were ignored in the last two days.

2:40 pm: Arrive in line for the red carpet. Getting really excited because its finally almost time!

1460021_554269011328630_2044064623_n

3 pm: Get a call about a job interview for Barnes and Noble. This is completely unrelated to anything to do with Catching Fire, but I was insanely excited, and it put me in a good mood for the rest of the day.

3:30 pm: Head into the fan section. Second row behind the barricade which honestly isn’t that bad. Sure, I would have liked to have been right up against it, but beggars can’t be choosers. And usually the people in the front row are nice. Its a little bit of a give and take. Fandom love

374489_554269064661958_1592131781_n

4 pm: Realize the people in front of us are NOT fandom love people, and are kind of rude. Whatever. Time to do some awesome work, and get my poster signed.

5:30 pm to 8 pm: RED CARPET!!!!!

I saw SO many people.

It was nearly impossible to get pictures with anyone, mostly because the people in front of me, were not really nice. BUT I got my poster signed by SO many people on the carpet, including: Jennifer Lawrence, Liam Hemsworth, Josh Hutcherson, Donald Sutherland, Bruce Bundy, Stanley Tucci, Stef Dawson, Bruno Gunn, Maria Howell, Amanda Plummer, Megan Hayes and Trish Summerville.

1454553_554269581328573_1749066568_n

Don’t ask me which signature belongs to who. I know some of them but most of them, I have NO idea. It was chaos on the red carpet, haha, but the good kind of chaos!

I also, sadly, didn’t take a lot of pictures either because it was SO hard to! But I was glad to get my poster signed. I did get a few pictures! I think I was too busy trying to get autographs and ogling celebrities to actually take pictures with them!

I also saw other celebrities like Sarah Hyland, Joe Jonas, and even some Laker players, like Xavier Henry and Steve Blake!

1457648_554269204661944_2011808627_n

Laker player Xavier Henry!

There were also some past tributes from the first movie that hit the red carpet too, like Dayo Okeniyi (Thresh), Isabelle Fuhrman (Clove), and Jacqueline Emerson (Foxface). Even though they all die in the first movie, they’re part of the family, and they’re part of the beginning of this beautiful movie experience.

Oh and I got an extra poster signed by Francis Lawrence, the director, and Jena Malone, Sam Claflin and Stephanie Leigh Schlund. I think a giveaway may be in order *wink wink*

1470355_554269631328568_131914008_n

8:30 pm: MOVIE TIME!!!!!!!!!! We get free popcorn and drinks and head into the most ginormous theater in the history of all theaters. Seriously. Its huge. Not really in a good way. I like small theaters, for sure. This place was…uncomfortably big haha. BUT I was lucky to see the movie early so its all good.

1450804_554269591328572_1634539905_n

11 pm: Get out of the movie. I have literally cried from happiness, from heartbreak, from laughter. This movie is absolutely brilliant. I won’t say more than that because I’m doing a review but ohmygod, the movie was SO good. So happy and satisfied, I can barely handle it.

12:30 am: Finally make it home. Am so happy to see my house, to see my own bed, and especially to see my boyfriend. I am so excited for all of this, I literally fall asleep without even trying.

Thank you for following me all weekend, in the journey of the Catching Fire Fan Camp and Red Carpet Premiere.

Catching Fire Fan Camp and Red Carpet Premiere Diary-Day Two

Hey everyone! Guess what? Day #2 of the CF Fan Camp is coming to close and I’m gonna write my fan camp diary for you again! Okay, physician I’m not going to lie. Its actually only 7 pm, adiposity which means I won’t get to bed for another, advice hmmm, at least five hours.

So this will probably eventually be longer as the rest of the night unfolds. But for now, this is my exciting day!

Enjoy!

Day Two

8 am: I woke up, and I felt like I had been hit over the head with a brick. I actually kind of forgot where I was, until I remembered and I was like OHMYGOD.

9 am: Charging my phone. This is not exciting, but this is a huge part of the day haha. I spend a lot of time at fan camp charging things.

10:30 am: Corner Bakery comes to bring us breakfast. It sadly reminds me WAY too much of Panera, and I’m like, NO. LOL. We get in line to get some swag, because, remember, my young padawans, free swag is the best thing ever.

We got TimeWarner Cable iphone cases and bags, and even better, we got Catching Firek shirts. I’m pretty low on the wallet side and haven’t able to spend too much money at Hot Topic, so I was so excited to get a free shirt. No lie.

photo 3

10:31 am: I molest Katniss Everdeen. Sort of. She kind of enjoys it.

1476486_461735160614018_1001444881_n

11:30 am: Lining up for the cast signings. We had no idea who was coming but I was banking on my boy, Sam Claflin to show up.

12 pm: Sam Claflin (Finnick), Jena Malone (Johanna) and Jeffrey Wright (Beetee) show up. Pretty much die of happiness because I really wanted to meet Sam. I was close in the front of the line, so I knew I would make it through fairly easily.

12:20 pm: I meet Sam Claflin. This was pretty much the BEST moment of the day. Finnick Odair is easily  my favorite character, and its not just because he is hot. He has so much to his character, and there’s depth to him that you don’t normally see because of his looks. I adore Finnick. Plus he’s got his badass tridents, and he saves Peeta’s life.

We totally talked about Disneyland; he went for the first time yesterday. I told him it was my favorite place in the world and he asked me what my favorite ride was, and I say Winnie the Pooh. He was like, “I didn’t go on that!” and I was like, “Oh no! You should have!” and he laughed. We’ll be announcing our engagement any day now ;)

1003896_461769480610586_1502352141_n

12:21 pm: Met Jena Malone and Jeffrey Wright. Both SO nice, and signed my poster. I wasn’t able to get pictures with them, sadly but they were really awesome, and I’m glad I was able to meet both of them.

1:00 pm: Josh Hutcherson, aka the beautiful Peeta Mellark, shows up. Pretty much die of excitement.

1:15 pm: They start putting up the epic Mockingjay for the red carpet. They eventually lit it up for a bit but I missed it. Because I wasn’t pay attention. That was my bad. But it still looks cool without the flames!

1422443_461827687271432_1734430029_n

1:40 pm: Josh leaves when there is only ten people in front of me and my friends. Pretty much die of sadness. Resolve that I WILL see him on the red carpet tomorrow, and it’ll be amazing. There are no losers in fan camp!

2:00 pm: Francis Lawrence, director of Catching Fire, hits the signing table! I was happy to meet him, of course, and I can’t wait to see the movie, and to see how he takes the helm. The previews for this movie make it look simply brilliant and he’s the brains behind the operation.

1424424_461821457272055_963876338_n

3 pm: We had heard rumors that Jennifer Lawrence was going to show up. Attempt to start a “just-in-case” line. Totally get yelled at. Not really. The security is usually provided by SEM at movie premieres and they are seriously amazing people, like Charles, who is the head.

4 pm: Try to do another “just-in-case” line. It fails again, and so I start playing Pokemon Blue because…well, why not? I should be reading. I have two books that I need to review really soon but this place is so distracting and awesome.

6:00 pm: Dinner. The first real meal I’ve had since eating at iHop yesterday. I had a cheddar cheese cup o’noodles, which was the first time I had had one. It was really weird. No lie. I was like, what IS this? I liked it haha and when you’re hungry, its the best meal ever.

6:30 pm: Practically tackled this lady who was handing pieces of the red carpet that they have already set up. I am a sucker for souvenirs and mementos so I knew I had to have one!

photo 1

6:45 pm: Realized, as I was writing this post, I keep switching from 1 pm to 1:00 pm. I should keep some consistencies. I’ll blame it on the fact that the only real food I had today was a Cup o’Noodles and let’s face it, that’s probably not considered real food. Sad face.

8:00 pm: We find out what is going to happen tomorrow. This is not exciting. I have no idea why I’m sharing this with you. I mean, do you really want to know the 411 of lining up for a red carpet premiere? Its really boring. Moving on…

8:30 pm: The Laker game finished, and the Lakers won. This is exciting because the Lakers aren’t that good and Kobe Bryant is out, and it kind of sucks. It was kind of funny though to take a bunch of our stuff back to our car, in the middle of the Laker crowd. I’m not sure they knew what to do with that.

830-1030 pm: I have been on my computer for awhile haha. After discovering free wi-fi, I realized I now had unlimited access to facebook, and tumblr and twitter, and well, it was straight up trouble.

Somewhere Between 830 and 11 pm:  Uno and too much giggling ensues

10:30 pm: Literally spend two whole minutes of non-stop laughing as Sylvia attempts to take a picture of me in my Hunger Games shirt. This is the fail picture (of many) that was the road to the semi-decent one above.

photo 2

Bedtime: I go to bed. I’m so exciting, huh? Tomorrow is the premiere!

*      *      *      *      *      *

I hope you enjoyed this recap of Day #2. Tomorrow is Day #3, which is movie premiere day! Its going to be amazing!

Happy Hunger Games!

Catching Fire Fan Camp and Red Carpet Premiere Diary-Day One!

Hello from the Catching Fire Fan Camp in Los Angeles! How are all my lovely followers this weekend? I hope you are fantastic! I’m cold, sickness a little hungry and definitely tired but I know that tomorrow is going to be worth all of this. It totally always is.

So I know I said you wouldn’t hear much from me this weekend but I brought my laptop to work on NaNoWriMo (which I haven’t done, because lets be real, its fan camp and there’s no way I’m getting any work done on The Reawakened this weekend). Well, we discovered that there is FREE wi-fi in fan camp, and so here I am. I decided, instead of writing one big post on Tuesday once I’m back from Fan Camp and the Premiere, I’ll do a daily diary of my adventures at Fan Camp.

So here we are:

Day One

6 am: Alarm goes off. I stare it with the meanest death glare that I possibly can. I went to sleep at 2 am and now I’m exhausted. But also insanely excited. It’s finally Fan Camp Day!

8:30 am: Arrive in LA. District 2 (my district for the weekend) doesn’t start checking in until 9 but we are SO cool that we were able to go in.

8:45 am: Set up tent. Try and remember how to put up tent. It looks beautiful.

9 am: Sylvia, Erin and I attempt to carry ALL the things we brought from my car parked a couple blocks away. Hilarity literally ensues as we drop water bottles all over the place, and laugh at how incredibly dorky we look. I had a beach chair backpack. Enough said.

10 am: Discover the Denny’s, with cheap 2 dollar pancakes and free wifi, is closed. Go to IHop instead. Find its totally inadequate in providing cheap food haha. Accidentally knock over an entire thing of syrups and cause a maple syrup fiasco in iHop. Get slightly embarrassed but also can’t stop laughing. Possibly this is because I have had no sleep.

11:30 am: Adventures in Target. Trouble ensues. Of course. Its me and my friends. Also discover there is a Sprinkles cupcakes over here, which pretty much makes me the happiest person ever. Open my wallet and fall into despair that I can’t afford a cupcake. Consider buying a cupcake with all quarters. This may still happen.

12:30 pm:  Get free swag. You know how I am with free stuff. I got the US Weekly special edition magazine with Catching Fire and all the posters, and the especially sexy Sam Claflin as Finnick Odair. My goal of this camp experience is to meet Finnick. I also got a backpack, and candy, and all sorts of weird stuff.

3 pm: Meet Willow Shields, who plays Primrose Everdeen in the movies. Super adorable. She was incredibly sweet, and I swear, she has the prettiest blue eyes ever. Like…ever. Its adorable.

photo 1-1

4 pm: Meet Stephanie Leigh Schlund who is playing Cashmere in the Catching Fire movie. She was SO nice, and incredibly beautiful. It’s hard to remember that, like, she’s kind of a “bad guy” in the movie, because she’s an obstacle in Katniss saving Peeta. Because she was SO pretty!

photo 5

5 pm: Hang out in tent, make friends, talk books, be incredibly awesome. Someone is passing out district themed chocolate bars. District 10’s is….interesting.

photo 2

6 pm: Leave to go see a play. Some security lady tells me that there is a STRICT 10:30 curfew and I will be locked out if not back in time. Freak out.

7:30 pm: Go to see Potted Potter (a 70 minute parody of all 7 Harry Potter books, more on that later when I get back from fan camp). Hitch a ride to Irvine to see this with my friend, Katie. Make it time to see the show, which was HILARIOUS. I try to do as much fandom stuff as possible, in a short amount of time. I’m just cool like that.

photo 4

9:30 pm: Realize we only have an hour to get all the way back to LA before our “STRICT” curfew. Freak out.

9:31 pm: Decide that an In n Out stop is totally worth it. Deliciousness in the form of perfect In n Out grilled cheese and friends happens. Decide California is brilliant once again because of In N Out.

10:25 pm: Get off the freeway and discover that the Clipper game has just been let out. We are at Nokia Theater, which is RIGHT next to Staples Center, where the Clippers play. Major traffic. Also major freak out from myself and Katie, reason: “STRICT” curfew.

10:26-10-30: Katie and I proceed to JUMP from her sister’s car, and run through the sidewalks of Los Angeles, basically weaving in and out of the masses of Clipper fans coming from the game. I’m panting, and sore, and this is possibly the most exercise I’ve gotten in a month. Oh, who am I kidding? Probably all year.

10:32 pm: Reach the gate and flash our wristbands. The guy at the gate asks us why we’re out of breath and we explain that we wanted to make it back before curfew. He gives us a weird look and says that there is no curfew. Decide that the security lady was working for President Snow.

10:45 to 2 am: Hang out with all my super cool friends. I have my friend Katie here, and Sylvia from FangirlFeeels and Erin from That One Geek Girl, and my friend Jade from Dhampirs and Dragomirs, and all kinds of cool people. Literally spend a TON of time talking about books and movies, and all sorts of fangirl stuff.

photo 3

Also, tent city? It’s awesome. Its seriously so cool. Its literally a bunch of people together, hanging out, with the same love and passion for The Hunger Games. Its so awesome.

2 am: Go to sleep. Sort of. I miss my bed, and my three pillows, and my Winnie the Pooh to cuddle with. I also miss cuddling with my boyfriend. But onward to day two!

Tuesday Top Ten-Scenes I Hope to See in Catching Fire!

So this week, visit I’m kind of on a one track mind. I’ve got Jennifer Lawrence, story Josh Hutcherson, approved Liam Hemsworth, some districts, and an epic rebellion on the brain.

Next week, the highly awaited sequel to The Hunger Games, Catching Fire will be releasing in theaters. However, this coming weekend, I will be attending the red carpet premiere, and participating in my FIRST EVER fan camp. I am so excited about it, and I literally am having so much trouble thinking of anything else.

So this week’s Tuesday Top Ten is counting down the ten things I hope to see in the Catching Fire movie!

I warn you: if you haven’t read Catching Fire, I will ruin the book for you. So please do not read this if you don’t want it spoiled for you!

10. The Victory Tour

One of my favorite parts of Catching Fire is the Victory Tour, and I think that’s because it really opens up the world that Suzanne has created. In the first book, we get District 12, a small portion of the Capitol and then the Arena. In this, we are able to see the vastness of the country of Panem, and the problems that is going on. I like the Victory Tour because Katniss and Peeta start to see so much more than District 12, and the Games. Its where the idea for a rebellion begins. I really want to see this in the movie because I want to see all the districts! Especially District 4!

9. Katniss and Haymitch Drinking

The moment when Katniss and Haymitch realize that she and Peeta will be going back into the arena is such a pivotal moment for the two of them. Its when Katniss finally understands Haymitch, and why he’s so drawn to drinking, and its why she drinks herself in that moment. She had been given a little bit of hope, by surviving, before the hopelessness sets in again. The moment that Haymitch and Katniss decide to make sure Peeta lives…its a beautiful moment. Its when they, and the readers, really realize how much better Peeta is than most people.

8. Jabberjays and the Tick Tock Arena

The Arena of the Games in Hunger Games is insanely enough, with flying fireballs and tracker jackers, and mutts that are made to look like fallen tributes, and so much more. But this one…it blows me away at how intricate and how seriously messed up it is. Its a clock, and each hour of the clock is a totally new horror. There’s the poisonous fog, and the bloodthirsty monkeys, but the one thing that killed me during the Games is the jabberjays. The fact they can match the exact tone of voice of someone and can make the tributes think they’re hearing their loved ones be tortured? Its pure evil. It doesn’t literally kill them, but it kills them emotionally. I can’t wait to see the Games in this movie.

7. Gale Being Whipped

Okay, I know that sounds super messed up but hear me out. Suzanne has Gale whipped for a number of reasons. It shows Katniss the feelings that she has for Gale, feelings that she is going to need to work out. It shows the levels of cruelty that exist in Panem. It shows that standing up and fighting, not running away, is the answer. So I had hoped that they would not take this scene out because of the violence of it. There’s a reason this scene is there, and I think its pivotal to the story and extremely pivotal to the character development of Katniss. I’ve seen enough previews and TV spots to know that it’ll be in the movie, and I know that despite my desire to have it in the movie, I will definitely be upset when I see it.

6. Victors Holding Hands

I think this is just an unbelievably beautiful scene in the book. Twenty-four people from twelve different districts that are going to be pit against each other to the death come together and band together for one moment, and show the injustice of the government. They may not have remained that way in the Games, but for a brief moment, they were united. I can’t have been the only one that was moved by that scene.

5. Peeta Proposing to Katniss

I know its not real, because they have to do that in order to protect each other, and the people they love, but come on, I have shipped Katniss and Peeta since the beginning, and I’m sure that its going to be a squeal worthy scene anyway. We know Peeta. We know how caring and loving and sincere he is, and how much he truly does love Katniss. I can imagine, even in a fake proposal (real proposal?), he expresses all of that so eloquently and I can’t wait to see it.

4. Katniss Being “Pregnant”

I hope, I hope, I hope this doesn’t get kicked out of the movie. I hope it made it in. I think its so important. I think it has so many purposes. First off, it just shows how incredibly clever Peeta is. He knows exactly how to garner attention and cause mayhem. He’s brilliant. By telling everyone that Katniss is pregnant, right before the Games, he is stirring something in all the people around the country who love her. If they didn’t already feel the injustice of seeing the victors they love going in to the arena, they are feeling the injustice now. I also think it shows how much Peeta is willing to do for Katniss, to keep her safe, to save her life and protect her. And separately, by letting Katniss go in, while carrying a child (though we know she isn’t actually), the Capitol and President Snow show their cruelty but not even sparing an unborn child. This better be in the movie!

3. Katniss and Peeta on the beach

Okay, this is totally the sexy scene of the book, but its more than that too. Its the moment that Peeta tries to convince Katniss not to save him, to save herself, because she has Gale and her mother and Prim to go home to. He tells her that no one will miss him, the way people will miss her. Its the moment when Katniss really realizes how much Peeta means to her, and that she’s the only one who will be completely affected by Peeta’s death. She’s confused; she has feelings for both Peeta and Gale, but I think this is the first moment that she really realizes her feelings for Peeta. The intimacy they share in that moment is so real, and raw, and not just because of their feelings for each other, but because of the hopeless situation they are in. I know this scene will be in there, because we will riot as fans if they aren’t.

2. Wedding Dress Into a Mockingjay Outfit

I think this is really the first moment that the idea of rebellion is more than just a spark. There are uprisings in some of the districts, and there’s unrest now that the Capitol is forcing former victors to compete in the Hunger Games. But Katniss is a hero to the districts, a person who beat the Capitol at their own game. I think everyone just sort of waits to see what she’ll do, to follow her lead, and by transforming from a young girl, in her wedding dress, to a powerful and beautiful mockingjay, she creates a visceral reaction. Its a very powerful moment, and thats a pivotal point for President Snow. Katniss has to die in the Games. This is also a moment that leads to a very important, very heartbreaking death.

1. Finnick Odair

Finnick Odair is my absolute favorite character in the entire series, and for so many reasons. Everyone has the image of him as the good-looking heartbreaker from District 4, because he’s a great fighter, a compassionate person and in love with the most unlikely of people, a girl gone crazy from her own trip into the games. He is incredibly charming and sexy, and he has the blond, surfer boy thing going on that I can’t help but love but he’s also an incredibly complex person too. I can’t wait to see him fight with his tridents, carry Mags on his back, save Peeta’s life, and just be the amazing Finnick that he is. I think Sam Claflin will do a great job!
