I’ve been thinking about it for quite some time and I’ve decided that its almost overdue now for What A Nerd Girl Says to go on Patreon!
Patreon is great. I discovered it when I went to go support some of my favorite podcasts and realized that it was easy to use and it was a great way for creators like myself to get paid for what they do…because even though the internet has created this entire space for creators of every kind to do their thing…its really, really hard to get paid for it.
,I’ve been doing What A Nerd Girl Says for nearly six years now, which still blows my mind. What started as an angry girl rant blog for me to defend YA literature to the masses became something that is my passion and is my access to the community that means the world to me. Having this blog and constantly creating the content that I do keeps me in the world that I want to make a career in and its been a hard struggle to keep doing it over the years.
When I first started this blog, I was 24 years old and I was probably working at Panera, I still lived at home and my goals were pretty average sized. Now I’m 30, working a full time receptionist job, paying rent and utilities and groceries and all that other boring adult stuff and my dreams are bigger…making a career out of this blog, and becoming a successful enough author for that to BE my job. My dedication to this blog has been harder in the past. Of course, I can’t imagine ever giving this up but there are times when its hard to justify the time and money spent on it when I have myself to take care of, rent and bills to pay, groceries to buy, a car to keep running, a little kitty to keep care of and more.
So when I discovered Patreon, I thought, well, that would be a nice start for me. Its SO easy to donate and its created FOR creators, which is the best part. I’ve heard pretty much nothing but good things about it and so now I’m reaching out to YOU to help me keep the dream going.
