Hi! My name is Sara. Welcome to my blog!
What A Nerd Girl Says was born over seven years ago when I realized I had a lot to say and nowhere to say it. I was twenty-four years and I’d really begun to discover what was important to me, what I was passionate about and I wanted to share that with the world and this blog was born from that want. My blog has changed immensely over the years but at heart, it is a place to share my love and passion for all things nerd – especially young adult literature. I am personal and I’m not afraid to share how I think but I’m always kind. I never set out to become famous or make a career at this and that’s good because it definitely has never happened haha! I love what I do and while there are small perks from it – advanced readers copies of books, free entrance to events – I do it solely because I absolutely love doing it. I hope you like what you see!
But about me! I’m 31 years old and I live in Southern California, born and raised. I work full time as a hiring coordinator for a home health agency and live with my boyfriend and our two cats, Kaz and Kai – yes, they are both named after book characters. I am one of six children. I have brown hair and brown eyes, and I think I look pretty mixed between my Mexican and Irish heritages. I am bisexual and incredibly proud of it. My passions and hobbies include writing, reading, listening to music, blogging and running.
I am a Type 2 diabetic and discovered a love for running while working on getting healthier. This has become a huge part of my life and inspired me to start an off-shoot blog called A Nerd Girl Gets Fit.
I am a published author! I write young adult fiction, of all genres. I wrote contemporary most of my life, after my 4th grade teacher told me I was a good writer and I basically became obsessed with being a writer. However, my first ever published book was called The Awakened, a young adult zombie sci-fi novel published in 2015. The sequel, The Sanctuary, was released in 2017 and a companion novella, The Survivor, was released in 2016. You can purchase those here. Nowadays, I write in all genres. I am currently working on a fantasy novel and a contemporary novel!
I have been reading my entire life – I wish I had a specific book that started the obsession but I’ve been reading long before I even have a memory of it. Reading Harry Potter at 11 years old in 1999 and discovering authors like Meg Cabot, Sarah Dessen and Tamora Pierce in high school led to the love of books that I love now and led to the absolute passion that I have for young adult literature. I read it, I write it, I write about it.
