MY REVIEW

One of my goals this year in 2019 is to try and keep my reviews short, sweet and to the point so hopefully more people read them! So here we go.
Everless was easily one of my favorite books that I read in 2018. It was one of the first books I read in the year and it was still burned into my brain at the end of the year. I still did a reread of it prior to reading Evermore so I would be fresh and I’m definitely glad I did – I felt way more prepared.
There are several things I liked about Evermore. I love Jules as a character. I love her strength and her tenacity and her constant willingness to move and to learn and to get more information. There are times when I feel like she’s scared shitless but she keeps going and it feels very real and authentic. She’s not a fighter, in the physical sense, but the fact that she keeps going, no matter what this world hands her, is just immensely gratifying. I like that she’s willing to change her opinions based on what is placed in front of her and she doesn’t often get in her own way.
I also really like Liam. I think there’s a lot to that character and I’m sad we didn’t get to explore him more. He is complicated and there is definitely more to him than we see. I also love Ina so much – there’s a part where you kind of learn more about her than you would have expected and I just loved it. I loved that she wasn’t just a princess, she had her own inner strength and she also had the ability to adapt as well.
I really felt the story wrapped up well. My only small beef was that it just seemed so fast and anti-climatic. I’ve been a huge fan of duologies lately but I do honestly think this series could’ve really worked as a trilogy. That being said, the ending was very satisfying and I think the flashback visions that Jules experienced throughout the novel really enhanced the ending, it really brought it full circle and made you feel the loss at the end. Again, I wish there was more to it but honestly, the two books as a whole are really fantastic and I truly loved this book. I think Sara made a great world, an interesting magical system and her writing is rich and vibrant and Everless still remains one of my favorite reads of 2018 and I think Evermore is a very satisfying sequel and ending.
