MY REVIEW

Okay, confession time – this novel was highly influenced by the movie, Four Weddings and a Funeral and I admit, I’ve never seen it. I’ve heard great things and now there’s a tv show remake but I just never have. That being said, I want to watch the movie and tv show because I super LOVED this book. Kasie always writes such fun, light, GREAT romances and when this book came out, that’s exactly what the book doctor ordered.

Sophie works for a florist and this was my first connection to the story. My first job ever was working for my aunt in her floral business and when I say first job, I mean, I was 12 years old and helping her with her first wedding she ever did flowers for and I worked with her consistently until I was about 22, even when I started getting other jobs at 17 years old. I felt that connection so much. I did think that Sophie’s job was a lot less…chaotic and tiring as a florists job is, especially on the day of an event OMG, but I still felt SUCH a connection with it. Its a fun job, especially since it really puts you into places that are special. You are an outsider because you’re working but you still get to see people married and that sort of thing. It’s great and I really loved that about Sophie and the layout of the book.

I LOVED the layout of the book. I thought it was super unique that instead of having this linear storyline of Sophie’s life, it was all about the major events that she does for work and how it brings her into contact with Andrew. I think your emotions tend to be heightened at events, even if you’re working them, and I think that makes for an interesting dynamic for all of the characters and it’s what causes all the good and bad times that they have with each other. I liked that it wasn’t just a love story too. It was the relationships that Sophie had with people in general, not just Andrew, but her boss, Andrew’s dad, her best friend, her brother, her mother. Kasie’s stories are always so human, so full of life because all of her characters are so genuine and real.

Lastly, I felt a deep connection to Sophie with her relationship to her mother. I have had my ups and downs with my own mother, felt like I needed to escape her and whatnot and so the frustration, the impatience, the resentment that Sophie often feels is something that felt really familiar to me, as familiar as wearing a old t-shirt. I understood her and I understood what she was going through and it was one of my favorite parts of the story because it felt so close. I liked that Kasie didn’t vilify Sophie’s mom and didn’t make her a bad character but made her complicated and made their relationship complicated because that’s just life and I really really enjoyed it.
