GOODREADS SUMMARY:

With unmatched suspense and her signature cinematic storytelling, #1 New York Times–bestselling author Marie Lu plunges readers back into the unforgettable world of Legend for a truly grand finale.

Eden Wing has been living in his brother’s shadow for years. Even though he’s a top student at his academy in Ross City, Antarctica, and a brilliant inventor, most people know him only as Daniel Wing’s little brother.

A decade ago, Daniel was known as Day, the boy from the streets who led a revolution that saved the Republic of America. But Day is no longer the same young man who was once a national hero. These days he’d rather hide out from the world and leave his past behind. All that matters to him now is keeping Eden safe―even if that also means giving up June, the great love of Daniel’s life.

As the two brothers struggle to accept who they’ve each become since their time in the Republic, a new danger creeps into the distance that’s grown between them. Eden soon finds himself drawn so far into Ross City’s dark side, even his legendary brother can’t save him. At least not on his own . . .

MY REVIEW

To this day, the Legend trilogy, now series, is my favorite of all the dystopian universes to come out when dystopia was the hot commodity – Hunger Games, Divergent, etc. I loved that it took place in Los Angeles, I loved the dual points of view. I loved it. I reread the entire trilogy just recently to prepare for the release of this book and still totally love it.

It was great to be back in that world but with enough differences to feel like a brand new book. Antarctica and their bizarre civilization felt familiar – we know it from the previous books and it was a heavy precursor to Warcross – but it also felt like a brand new place for our main characters to explore. As bizarre as their system is, its also incredibly fascinating and I found that I was hooked into learning more about how the different levels of society worked. It just felt so fleshed out and I bet writing Warcross in between the end of Champion and this book totally helped with that. It also felt really plausible too and I think that’s also why I like it. It has enough science fiction, fantasy, dystopia to remind you that its not our world but it could so be our future.

I loved being back with Day – though he’s fully Daniel at this point and that does take a little getting used to. If I’m being honest, I loved the book mostly for Daniel and June and I was a little sad that we didn’t get to be in June’s head at all – she’s my favorite and I missed being able to know what she was thinking. But it was great to see the two of them together again, working their way back to each other after the devastating end to Champion. I feel like I’ve waited an eternity for this to happen!

I liked Eden but I don’t know. I feel like I wanted more from him. There was so much more to him than just being incredibly smart and incredibly in the shadow of his older brother and I wanted to know more. I loved his friend whose name is escaping me at the moment but she was one of my favorite parts of every time Eden was the point of view. She had this spice that I really wanted more of. I liked the story a lot – I think breaking down the system that exists in Antarctica and showing that even though it might seem better than the Republic, it has its flaws – there’s no perfect society. Its a great storyline and it really parallels everything that is going on in today’s society and I really appreciated that and really connected with that. I just wish I would have gotten more! I liked Eden and Daniel working together and I really liked the big bad and I just wanted more. It wasn’t bad – it was just one of those things where I was like, I just need more.

Either way, it felt so good to get some closure from Champion, it felt good to be back with characters that are so familiar and it was so great to expand the world of Legend and learn more and grow more and see how that world has changed in a decade. I am SO glad that Marie wrote this and even more glad that I’ve added it to my collection!
