Goodbye November, Hello December!

Hello everyone! I love you all and I’ve missed you all!

You may have noticed that for nearly a month now, I’ve been pretty MIA, both here on the blog and on instagram. I have been really good at writing a lot on the blog and keeping up with bookstagram posts but last month was November and I was overwhelmed by life.

You may be saying, well, what’s November, Sara?

Well, November is this little thing called NaNoWriMo aka National Novel Writing Month. Its where people all over the world challenge themselves to write 50K words in 30 day. For some people, that’s an entire novel, for others, its just a portion of a novel. The tradition started as writing a complete, 50K novel in 30 days so there are people that challenge themselves to start and complete a full novel, regardless of word count, in one month. Its a lot of fun and there’s a great sense of community and camaraderie about it.

I’ve participated for the past six years in a row, since 2013. I say every year, and I mean it, that any words written during the month of November is considered a victory, even if its less than 50K, because that word count is more than what you started with that and I genuinely believe that. However, I haven’t had a successful NaNoWriMo since 2013, when I wrote my 7th novel, The Awakened, which went on to be my debut novel. I also haven’t written a complete novel since I finished its sequel, The Sanctuary, back in 2016. I’ve been trying to write a brand new fantasy novel for years and it just hasn’t worked.

This year, it did. Legacy, my young adult fantasy, takes place in a world where its modern day California but there are dragons involved. Its a story I’ve been wanting to tell for so long. I changed a major plot point, switched up some characters and…damn, it worked.

So most of my month was spent with that novel, living and breathing it. Adding that in with my fitness journey (more on that at a later time, but if you follow me on instagram, you’ve most likely seen some of it) and the fact that its a holiday season…I just fell off the blog and bookstagram bandwagon.

I’m hoping this means I’m back though. I still have a lot of focus on Legacy, but with a goal of finishing it early next year, I’m not in cram mode like I am for NaNo and can focus more on reading!

I’ve missed you all and there is a load of amazing things to come and I can’t wait to share it with you all!

Happy Reading!

xx
