Books

I’ve been SO bad at reading lately – I’ve been busy and dealing with a lot of different things so I haven’t had a chance to really read, even though I have a ginormous stack of books to get through. I’m currently making my way through my millionth time rereading Harry Potter and am on Goblet of Fire.

I also just got the ARC for Austin Siegemund-Broka and Emily Wibberley’s sophomore novel, If I’m Being Honest, and I literally finished it in a matter of hours because it was so so good. It comes out next month on the 24th and I should *fingers crossed* have a review for it up soon. In the meantime, you can read my Waiting on Wednesday post about it!

Right now, I have no idea what to read. I’ll probably continue to read Goblet of Fire and I’m roughly 100 pages into Jessica Khoury’s new book, Last of Her Name, which I’m enjoying so hopefully I can pick that up again!

Sara’s Newsies Corner

Here I share the news in the nerd world that I got excited about this week! It may not contain every bit of news – that would be insane!

Hmm, what is happening in the world this week!

I recently saw Captain Marvel and because I’m behind on my Sunday posts, I didn’t share that I had seen it! I’m up to 3 times so far, and I definitely want to see it more, once funds allow me to do so. I bought a TON of merch and just seriously love it. I’m excited with how well its done in the theaters. You can read my spoiler free review here.

Big news for me, and for anyone who happens to read this blog and is an Angels  baseball fan, which is probably just me. Mike Trout is genuinely considered the best athlete in baseball right now and one of the best of all time and I love love love that he’s been with the Angels so far in his career and I’ve been nervous about where he’ll go in the future. Well, it was announced this week that he’s not going ANYWHERE and he’s staying here! He’ll be an Angel until he’s 40 – until 2031 – and I couldn’t be more excited that he chose to stay with us for his entire career.

WonderCon Anaheim repeated what they started last year, with online lottery for exclusive signings. I’m still undecided how I feel about it but I signed myself up for ones and crossed my fingers. I only ended up getting one that I wanted, a signing for Marvel Rising, this one focusing on Ironheart, the female Ironman. I really really wanted to get into the Dark Phoenix signing, because I super super want to meet Sophie Turner, and I *might* have a way to make it happen but we shall see… In the meantime, I’m so stoked to meet Ming-Na Wen, who has been in a million amazing things like Joy Luck Club and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. but also did the voice of Mulan!!!!

There was a cover reveal for Leigh Bardugo’s first adult novel! I normally don’t read adult novels but I follow my favorite YA authors when they venture outside of YA and this book sounds truly, truly amazing. The cover is below, and you can read about the book, including an excerpt, at this link.

Oh!!! I Marie Kondo-ed my books! I pretty much never get rid of books but I had so many, books I was never going to read, books I was never going to read again, a ton of ARCS I knew I was never going to touch so I got rid of a TON and donated to a local high school teacher. Hopefully she’ll get some use out of them. I’m not planning on putting a hold in book buying anytime soon but it did feel good to get rid of so many books that I just did NOT need.

Watched

I can’t remember all of what I’ve watched in the past week exactly but I’ve been super super super obsessed with true crime documentaries lately, especially those about abductions. I’ve never been super into that so I’m not sure where that came from but I decided to watch Mommy Dead and Dearest, about Gypsy Rose Blanchard, a girl who was basically tricked into thinking she was sick her entire life by her mom and ends up killing her mother. Its crazy and it was fascinating.

So then I ended up watching the Ted Bundy Netflix series, the documentary, Abducted in Plain Sight, and The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann and then rewatched Broadchurch. There are so many more documentaries I want to watch. I’ve become totally obsessed!

I also watched Amy Schumer’s newest comedy special on Netflix and totally adored it. She gets a lot of hate and I just don’t understand why, I adore the crap out of her. Her comedy special was so so funny.

Listened To

So admittedly, I started to tire of the Disney music. I know, I was surprised. I adore Disney music. I think I really miss working there or even just having an annual pass – I had one for about a decade but its just too expensive now – that I felt better listening to the music. But I got over it. Fast. Plus my coworkers got over listening to the Disney music too so I had to change the Pandora station. I decided to just switch it to Fall Out Boy, because they’re one of my favorite bands, and it ended up being SUCH a great station – total high school/early 20s nostalgia of my emo and scene days. I’ve been enjoying it so much.

You can listen to Fall Out Boy radio here.

Favorite Picture of the Week
It was Ravenclaw Pride Day on Saturday the 23rd! I shared my pride by running 3 miles and adding some mileage to my Ravenclaw running team. There is this really cool group of people that run fandom themed running clubs and donate to charity with a combination of using the app Charity Miles and doing virtual 5Ks and 10Ks and so forth. Its amazing, I love being a part of the Potterhead Running Club and I love being a part of the Ravenclaw team and it was a great way to show some eagle pride that day. Im hoping to have a post about Fanthropy and the running clubs soon so keep an eye out!
