Waiting on Wednesday {51}

This week’s Waiting on Wednesday is Well-Played, the sequel to Jen Deluca’s Well Met, a wonderful, sexy and hilarious romance centered on a small town Ren Faire. I LOVED this book and immediately needed book two and was so sad when I realized I had to wait a whole six months for it. I actually just recommended it to my roomie, Chad, who expressed an interest in trying a romance novel and whose favorite place in the world is Ren Faire so I’m anxiously awaiting his thoughts because well, if he doesn’t like it, he’s SO wrong. The sequel comes out in just two weeks – agh, the same day as MY book – and I just can’t wait for it.

SUMMARY:

Stacey is jolted when her friends Simon and Emily get engaged. She knew she was putting her life on hold when she stayed in Willow Creek to care for her sick mother, but it’s been years now, and even though Stacey loves spending her summers pouring drinks and flirting with patrons at the local Renaissance Faire, she wants more out of life. Stacey vows to have her life figured out by the time her friends get hitched at Faire next summer. Maybe she’ll even find The One.

When Stacey imagined “The One,” it never occurred to her that her summertime Faire fling, Dex MacLean, might fit the bill. While Dex is easy on the eyes onstage with his band The Dueling Kilts, Stacey has never felt an emotional connection with him. So when she receives a tender email from the typically monosyllabic hunk, she’s not sure what to make of it.

Faire returns to Willow Creek, and Stacey comes face-to-face with the man with whom she’s exchanged hundreds of online messages over the past nine months. To Stacey’s shock, it isn’t Dex—she’s been falling in love with a man she barely knows.

WHY I’M WAITING:

Guys, I absolutely LOVED the first book. I bought it on such a whim – a friend of mine had posted on Instagram that she’d read it and loved it and I was stuck in the worst reading slump I’ve ever been in – haven’t quite got out of it yet – and I thought, why not, let’s do it. So I did. And I POWERED through it. I won’t go super into it because I wrote an entire spoiler-free review of the book that you can read here, but genuinely, I just fell in love with the story and the characters and I LOVE Ren Faire and they’d just announced that the one near us was canceled for the year because of Covid and I was SO sad so I lived vicariously through Emily and Simon and their hilarious and sweet romance story. AGH I loved it.

So, of course, I’m just DYING for this book. When I was done with Well Met, I immediately went to purchase Well Played and then discovered it didn’t come out until September. So then I went on a search for an ARC, digital or not, and that didn’t pan out so…I’m here, just waiting for it and DYING to read Stacey’s story. More Ren Faire, more romance – Jen does an amazing job of blending super sweet romance with super sexy as hell romance – and more laughs! The first book was SO funny. Plus I’m hoping it throws a little hint at book 3 because I can’t wait for that one too! Plus, this book comes out the same day as Benched and I’m two weeks away from the release and stressed and overwhelmed and just a total mess of a human being so I’m hoping that my preorder will just download on my Kindle and I can enjoy it and decompress about this crazy, crazy release. I think it’ll be the PERFECT book to do so!
