MY REVIEW:
I’m not really sure where to start when it comes to reviewing this book. I finished it late last night, or I suppose, early this morning (on January 2nd, when I’m writing this post), finishing 75% of the book in one day because I simply could not put it down. Its a nearly 700 page book and I devoured it like I hadn’t read anything like it in years.
And I honestly don’t think that I have.
At the end of A Court of Mist and Fury, I wanted to scream! I could not believe the cliff hanger and I was glad I had waited to read it because I can’t imagine not having the ability to immediately get my hands on this novel to find out what happened next. To see Feyre go back to Tamlin, when she’s so meant to be with Rhys, to see both Nesta and Elain become Fae, to watch as Cassian and Azriel fell to pieces in front of the King…I was a wreck of emotions and I nearly cried with relief when one of my best friends lent me a copy of this book so that I could find out what happened!
And I’m just so in love. I don’t even know where to start without just writing a bunch of fangirl gibberish for pages and pages and pages. I love all of the characters. Of course, I adore Feyre and Rhys but I also love their family, Azriel and Mor and Cassian and I love the members of the other Courts and I enjoyed watching the development of both Nesta and Elain as they adjusted to being Fae in a world that they did so much to avoid. Sarah has such an immense cast of characters and each of them stands on their own and each one of them is a character that I love, for both their attributes and their flaws. Even when they make mistakes, they are dear to me, more real to me.
But this story…I said in my review of Mists and Fury that I loved how Sarah took the world she built in the Spring Court and Under the Mountain in the first book and expanded it to include so much. She did that even more so in this book and I am in awe of her incredible world building and story telling. She is so good at fairy tale, at myths, at war and battle, at romance, at family and she weaves them together into a dark, enthralling romantic story that I could not put down for hours yesterday.
This book is everything that I wanted and needed it to be after completely falling in love with the series after finishing the second book. She wraps up the story, ties up loose ends, but leaves you wondering what else could possibly happen in this insane world that they live in. She writes romances, and you watch as people fall in love. She writes so well in politics and battle and war and its so beautiful and real that it jumps off the pages. I held my breath during so many parts, my emotions rolling, rising and falling, as I worried for everyone in the book.
I thought this book was a perfect end to what Sarah built for the two main characters in Feyre and Rhysand and I’m so happy with everything that happens, even the things that broke my heart. I have not read such a great fantasy in a long time, and I’m not even a huge fan of fae stories, but its so well done, its so captivating, that I’m just in love from the beginning of Thorn and Roses to the very last page of this novel. I know there is more to come and I can’t wait to see what happens, what she can bring to the world that she made so real to me.
