MY REVIEW

You can read my review for Renegades here. Apparently I never reviewed Archenemies.

I absolutely loved this book and that it was just a fantastic way to end the series. It is the ONLY book I’ve read in November so far – oh NaNoWriMo – and I’m glad that if it could only be one, it was this one. I have just been dying to find out what happens to Nova and Adrian and the Renegades and the Anarchists. Even at the end of book two, I just couldn’t figure out who was right and who was wrong – it was so hard to choose. This is something I continue to struggle with this book too and I think that its just a product of Marissa’s incredible writing.

What is great about this book is that Marissa makes you think things have blown up way, way earlier. Something happens and I’m sitting there, thinking, oh my god how is this even possible? We have SO much book left and then there’s another twist and everything is back to “normal” and the book keeps going and I keep thinking, how on earth is this dishonesty between Adrian and Nova seriously going to last because its out of control! The tension is built up so much and I feel like I’m not just waiting for the colliding of the Renegades and the Anarchists, but I’m waiting for Adrian and Nova’s tenuous relationship to just blow up because of the double lives and the lies and the hiding and its just SO FULL OF TENSION.

When it all comes to a head though – it sets up for a seriously amazing finale. Its not just action packed, but its also emotionally packed too. I’m clutching the pages because of the fighting but I’m also clutching the pages because you’re watching a variety of characters losing their powers and find out different truths and lies and go through so much emotionally. Its such a great book. Truly it is one of the strongest finale books I’ve read in a really long time. Marissa spent two books getting us to care about all of these characters, whether they were “good” or “bad” and so you care about all of them and what happens to them. It was an emotional, whirlwind ending and I enjoyed every moment of it.

I will say this too – what is with that epilogue!!!!!!! All I’m saying is there better be some continuation of that because I think something seriously big got revealed in the epilogue and I need to know more. You can’t just end a trilogy like that! Come on, Marissa, give me more!

san diego event

My boyfriend and I made a day trip down to San Diego (after running a 5K that morning, whew) to see Marissa. She is easily one of my favorite authors and I was so excited to see her again and get my hands on my copy of Supernova. Her presentation was hilarious – talking about the different directions that the Renegades trilogy took before it came what it was. As a writer, its nice to know that your favorite authors struggle and get on tangents and have stories that go in a million different directions. I was also able to show Marissa a picture of my kitty, Kai, who we named after Kai in the Lunar Chronicles.
