My Sister Opened an Etsy Shop!

I am so excited to announce that after some hard work on my part and a ton of hard work on my sister’s part, abortion she has officially opened her Etsy shop: Art by Dink.

In the past few weeks, she’s been working on these mini canvas, and they’ve been super amazing. She started with Disney characters, but I recruited her right away to start making some fandom ones. I immediately commissioned her for an Amity one, because that’s my Divergent faction and it came out amazing.

Amity

I knew right away that she had to work on more fandom ones and that people would really want to buy these.

And she’s been relatively successful so far in in orders, with just friends and family. She’s currently working on a fearless rune, a deathly hallows and a TARDIS one just for me alone. My friend Ally just commissioned her for four of them. Check out some of the other ones she’s done so far.

Ariel

Nemo

Olaf

Pikachu

Simba

Snow White

Spiderman

Stitch

TFiOS

Winnie the Pooh

She paints 4×4 canvas with oil and acrylic paints.

She has done all of the ones above, including some sports teams logos as well. The best part? She takes custom orders. She will sketch out a few ideas and working with you to create the best canvas possible.

She’s working on several orders for people right now, as well as doing some new ones. As I mentioned before, she’s going to be making a fearless rune, a deathly hallows symbol and the TARDIS for one, which is VERY awesome. My friend Ally has ordered a Dauntless, a Peter Pan and more. The options are limitless.

And they’re only TEN BUCKS. That’s such a steal!

We’re still working on tightening up the edges of her Etsy page, hopefully getting her a logo soon, but her page IS open for business so head over, check it out and start buying! These canvas are so cool and I’ve already bought four, and I’m totally ready to buy more!

Check out her Etsy page now

You can also find her art page on Facebook and Instagram, as well. There, she will show all of her new canvas before she adds them to her Etsy page!

Fictional Crush of the Week-Adrian Ivashkov from the Bloodlines Series

In just a few days, dosage the fifth book of the Bloodlines series, physician Silver Shadows, will be hitting bookstores. I’ve been rereading the series and remembering just how much that I love Adrian Ivashkov. I can’t wait to read more of him when the book releases on Tuesday.

Character Name:

Adrian Ivashkov

images

Book or Series They Appear In:

The Vampire Academy Series (Secondary Main Character)

Frostbite, Shadow Kiss, Blood Promise, Spirit Bound, Last Sacrifice

 The Bloodlines Series (Main Character)

Bloodlines, The Golden Lily, The Indigo Spell, The Fiery Heart, Silver Shadows (out July 2014), The Ruby Circle (out 2015)

Author/Creator:

Richelle Mead

Played By:

No One (RIP Frostbite)

Who They Are:

Adrian Ivashkov is a secondary character in the Vampire Academy series and a main character in the Bloodlines series. He is a Moroi, a so-called good vampire who has mortality, and is sensitive to sunlight but won’t burst into flames because of it. He is the nephew of the late queen Tatiana, and has the rare elemental power of spirit which includes things like compulsion, dream walking and healing. He is volatile, using alcohol as a solution to the “crazy” that comes with spirit. He has a sarcastic sense of humor, always looking to crack a joke, or have a one-liner. He briefly dates Rose, and she tries to make him a better person but he doesn’t quite succeed. When he brings Jill Dragomir back from the dead using spirit, he’s sent to help keep her safe in Palm Springs and falls in love with Jill’s human protector, Sydney Sage. Sydney is the one who gets him to change and he quits smoking, cuts back on drinking, starts going to college and stops sleeping with random girls.

Why I Am Crushing On Them:

Oh Adrian Ivashkov. I was in love with Dimitri Belikov in the VA series because I was in Rose’s head and I wanted her with Dimitri so badly but I always had a soft spot for Adrian. As soon I started reading Bloodlines and I realized that he was going to fall massively in love with Sydney and vice versa, I knew that I was done. I love his sarcasm and his darkness. You know that I love those bad boys who are really good deep down. In real life, its so annoying but in books, they’re just so irresistible. That snark just gets me every single time. And I love that we see this beautiful slow change in Adrian in the Bloodlines series. I love that, while his personality remains the same, he becomes a better person around Sydney. That’s how you know that’s real. With Rose, he had to force himself but with Sydney, he genuinely wanted to be a better person and I just love it. Every thing that comes out of his mouth is a total win.

Notable Quotes:

“You, know I’m the Queen’s favorite great nephew, Well, yeah I’m her only great nephew, but that’s not important, I’d still be her favorite…”

“Takes a lot of tries before you hit perfection.” He paused to reconsider that. “Well, except for my parents. They got it on the first try.”

“I tried to be a better person for her– but it was to impress her, to get her to want me. But when I’m around you, I want to be better because… well, because it feels right. Because I want to. You make me want to become something greater than myself. I want to excel. You inspire me in every act, every word, every glance. I look at you, and you’re like… like light made into flesh. […] You have no clue how beautiful you are or how brightly you shine.”

“Yeah? Can you draw a skeleton riding a motorcycle with flames coming out of it? And I want a pirate hat on the skeleton. And a parrot on his shoulder. A skeleton parrot. Or maybe a ninja skeleton parrot? No, that would be overkill. But it’d be cool if the biker skeleton could be shooting some ninja throwing stars. That are on fire.”

Adrian returned to his crossword puzzle. “Well, you can think what you want, so long as you remember-no matter how ordinary things seem between us-I’m still here, still in love with you, and care about you more than any other guy, evil or otherwise, ever will.”

“I don’t care if you say we can’t be together. I don’t care if you think I’m the most evil, unnatural creature walking on earth. You can think whatever you want, go whatever you want. I’m going to just go on loving you, even if it’s hopeless.”

“But when I touch you, your aura … it smolders. The colors deepen, it burns more intensely, the purple increases. Why? Why, Sydney?” He used that hand to pull me closer. “Why do you react that way if I don’t mean anything to you?” There was a desperation in his voice, and it was legitimate.”

“I know I’m not supposed to say this, but I love you.”

I totally support Chase Crawford as Adrian ;) I just want Frostbite made so we can cast Adrian…

Seven Deadly Sins Book Tag!

So I’ve figured something out about me and book tags…

I don’t really get the actual process of them haha. You’re supposed to actually be TAGGED by someone before you do it. I don’t do that. I just see these on other people’s blogs and think they’re super cool and decided, order huh, hospital that’ll make a good post this week, and I do them.

I’m useless as a blogger sometimes, I swear.

But anyway, I saw this tag on my good friend Kayla’s blog, The Thousand Lives (check her out because her blog is superb!) and I decided it would be kind of fun so here we go!

GREED

What is your most inexpensive book?

That’s hard. Because I try to shop at used bookstores as much as I can. I also buy books ALL the time so I sort of lose track of when and where I bought them and how much I paid for them. That being said, I DO remember buying a hardback copy of Bloodlines in BEAUTIFUL condition at a used bookstore in Pasadena for 3 bucks. That was a total win!

WRATH

What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

Hmmm. Its hard to say. I usually like an author or I don’t like them. I don’t really have that in between. BUT. I will say this. I read Josephine Angelini’s Starcrossed trilogy and honestly wasn’t that impressed by it. It wasn’t that it was bad, because it wasn’t. She’s a terrific writer. I just didn’t care for the story that much. However, I just read the ARC of her new book, Trial by Fire, recently and that blew my mind and I totally love her for that book alone. I also would say Rick Riordan. I LOVE LOVE LOVE Percy Jackson and the Olympians and Heroes of Olympus but I’ve just never been able to get into Kane Chronicles. I just don’t like it at all. Ugh.

GLUTTONY

What book have you devoured over and over with no shame?

Easy cheesy, fresh and squeezy. I have read the Harry Potter series so much, I can’t even begin to count how many times. I probably have read each one about 50 times each and I’m not exaggerating. I love that series and I can quote them easily and I rock the HP trivia, for real. I also would say Trickster’s Choice by Tamora Pierce. Have you seen my copy of that book…I’ve torn it up…

SLOTH

What book have you neglected due to laziness?

A lot of books :/ But I think mostly…Game of Thrones. My dad bought me the entire series for Christmas in 2012 and I still haven’t read it. I read the first one, and about 100 pages into the second and I just can’t keep going. I know its going to take a bigger effort and all that but I can’t get myself to put in that effort. Sigh. Hopefully soon.

I’ll also say The Silkworm by Robert Galbraith (aka JK Rowling). I started reading it before my Nook crashed and wiped out what page I was on. I have the book still, obviously, but I don’t remember where I was and its pure laziness that is keeping me from finding my spot again.

PRIDE

What book do you talk about in order to sound like an intellectual reader?

I don’t know that I really do, to be honest. I feel like I’m so upfront about my loyalty to YA literature and how I think there’s so much good YA out there. I spend a lot of my time supporting and defending YA lit and I’ve never really tried to make myself seem smarter than I am. I do love books like To Kill a Mockingbird, Gone with the Wind, Brave New World, but I never talk about them to make myself seem smarter.

LUST

What attributes do you find attractive in male or female characters?

Wow. This could go on for awhile. In guy characters, I tend to like the dark, tortured, sarcastic ones. Think Jace Lightwood of The Mortal Instruments, Jared Lynburn of the Lynburn Legacy, Adrian Ivashkov of the Vampire Academy and Bloodlines series. I like the fighters, usually, and the ones that are quick and clever. I like the guys that usually withhold their emotions but are so deep and beautiful when they share them. Of course, a guy like this in real life would probably make me roll my eyes but in books, I’m a sucker for the “bad” boy. Sirius Black. Han Solo. The guys that are bad boys but deep down, so good. For girl characters, its broader. I like fighters, I like girls who are smart and clever and who can handle on their own. I like girls who are loyal to their families and their friends. My main girl crush is Rose Hathaway and I just love everything about her.

ENVY

What book would you most like to receive as a gift?

Difficult question. I don’t much like people buying me books haha because I like to pick out my own books. HOWEVER, I’ve been really wanting to read Deborah Harkness’ A Discovery of Witches and I just can’t bring myself to buy it every time I go to the store. Maybe someone will buy it for me haha!

Fierce Reads Blockbuster Event!

Can you guys believe that its been about three weeks since I’ve done a book event? Yeah! Three weeks! Insanity! Ever since I got back home from ALA in Las Vegas, link I’ve been overwhelmed with work, abortion and my novel, that I just haven’t had much time for blogging or going to book events.

Luckily, that is about to change VERY soon. I had an awesome time tonight at the Fierce Reads event at The Grove in Los Angeles, and will be attending a James Dashner and a Maggie Stiefvater event in the next few days and I’m very excited for those. Things are picking up guys.

Tonight I headed down to one of my favorite bookstores for what was sure to be an awesome event. I love Barnes and Noble in general, but I love going to the one at The Grove because they always have such great events and the event coordinator, Lita, is just a doll. I got there early, grabbed my wristband, and had lunch at Veggie Grill (yum yum!) before heading back to the store for the event.

The authors attending this event were four total YA all stars:

2014-07-23 17.49.49

Marissa Meyer, author of the Lunar Chronicles series, including Cinder, Scarlet, Cress and soon to be, Winter. Winter hits bookstores next year, but before that, a prequel story about Queen Levana will hit bookstores. Yay!

2014-07-23 19.18.42

Leigh Bardugo, author of the Grisha Trilogy, including Shadow and Bone, Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising. She’s currently working on another series, which takes place in the same Grisha world, not long after the end of Ruin and Rising.

2014-07-23 19.21.23

Anna Banks, author of the Syrena Legacy, including Of Poseidon, Of Triton and Of Neptune. She also has a new book called Joyride heading to bookstores next June!

2014-07-23 19.26.46-1

and

Ann Aguirre, author of the Razorland trilogy, including Enclave, Outpost, and Horde. And soon to be a TON of other books! This includes a new adult trilogy whose titles are Backstreet Boy’s songs. I call that a win.

unnamed-1

I was SO excited because I love all of these authors so much, and I always have a good time going to these events.

2014-07-23 17.45.52

We took our seats, and Lita talked up the event and the authors, and even talked about the moderator, Anthony Breznican and his debut novel, Brutal Youth. She talked it up so much that I immediately went downstairs to pick myself a copy of it. He was so awesome, a great moderator and was fun to talk to after the panel. He seemed happy that some of us grabbed copies of his book; it must be SO nerve wracking to have your debut novel out there!

Then Lita and the fantastic people of Macmillan Teens had a surprise for us early arrivals: ARCs! You know me, I can NEVER get enough of books :) I immediately went forward to check out what they had. I had most of them, from ALA, but they had a copy of Caragh O’Brien’s Vault of Dreamers, which I hadn’t managed to score at ALA. That was exciting. I also had my sister with me, and she was kind of my assistant for the event, so she grabbed a copy of Josephine Angelini’s Trial by Fire. Now, if you guys pay attention at all, you’ll know that I already have a copy of Trial by Fire so this one is going to be up for grabs very soon!

Then the event! Yay!

2014-07-23 19.47.02

2014-07-23 19.19.57

2014-07-23 19.17.41

All four ladies were so much fun in the panel. I honestly haven’t laughed so hard in so long. Leigh was her usual hilarious self and Marissa had a quirky little sense of humor. Ann Aguirre had a sort of awkward sense of humor, which remind me so much of myself that I just couldn’t stop laughing. And ohmygod, Anna Banks’ dry sense of humor was KILLING me. I could NOT stop laughing. It was too much.

They talked about their books, their inspirations for them, how they tackled them. They talked about books they loved, and what books inspired them. What I really loved is how they dove into the appeal of YA to adults and the growing diversity in YA books. Those are two very important topics and I was eager to hear what they had to say about it!

Then was the signing, of course. I got books signed by all of them, because I’m spoiled that way ;) I got Mortal Danger signed by Ann Aguirre, Of Poseidon by Anna Banks, and my extra copies of Siege and Storm and Ruin and Rising by Leigh Bardugo.

Because I already have my entire Lunar Chronicles signed (so far), I bought an extra copy of Cinder (and also Shadow and Bone) and those will be up for grabs soon as well!

I think I cleaned up pretty nicely after this event!

2014-07-23 23.44.59-2

Not a bad haul from the event!

I also managed to get my hands on some extra stuff! Check it out!

2014-07-23 23.49.04

I bought extra copies of Cinder and Shadow and Bone and those are both signed by the author. I got my hands on that extra copy of Trial by Fire, which doesn’t hit bookstores until September! I also got an Of Poseidon sneak peek booklet signed by Anna Banks and a bookmark signed by Ann Aguirre, and ton of other cool bookmarks and pins. Keep an eye out because a giveaway is coming VERY VERY soon!

Leigh’s mom was there, and I’ve met her twice before, at the Siege and Storm release party and the Ruin and Rising release part, and she’s such a doll. She remembered me and gave me a big ol hug and sat next to me during the event. She’s such a sweetheart :)

I also met a “fan” of What A Nerd Girl Says today, named Laura! She was SO cool, and I always love meeting you guys so NEVER be nervous to say hi. I’m kind of a weirdo so please do! Also, she read my excerpt that I posted the other day of The Awakened, and loved it, and that gave me SUCH a boost! Thanks for that, Laura :)

All in all, a super great night and I’m always so glad to go to the Barnes and Noble at the Grove and to go to Fierce Reads events. I ADORE Macteen and they put out so many amazing books and I will go to every Fierce Reads event that I can!

Until next time, folks! And keep an eye out for that giveaway!

I’m Alive! And I Have an Excerpt from The Awakened!

I know, troche I know, I know. I’ve been the absolute WORST blogger the past week and a half.

I’ve just been SO incredibly busy! Life has been getting crazy and I’m just trying to keep up as much as I possibly can. I’m working hard, spending time with my boyfriend and my friends, going to book events and most importantly: I’m trying to finish my novel.

As some of you may or may not know, I’ve written the first draft of a novel called The Awakened. It is a young adult science fiction, with a touch of romance. I was watching The Walking Dead one day when I was kind of sassy and said something along the lines of “Why didn’t they just nuke all the zombies?” Of course, that brought up so much and that sparked the interest for my novel. I finished it about a month ago and have been working as hard as I can to edit it and get it out to my beta readers! I’m hoping by the end of August, I’ll have a solid manuscript to shop around to agents.

That being said, editing is SO not fun. I cant’ wait to be a “real” author one day and have an editor to help me all the time. I’ve had my super awesome cousin helping me and she’s seriously been SO invaluable to me but god, it is a TON of work. Its frustrating, tiring, and sometimes I feel like I’m going to give up but I love this novel and I love to write and I’m determined.

So to apologize for the fact that I’ve just been massively MIA on this blog, I decided that I would share a little excerpt from my novel. First, lets get a synopsis going so you guys have a little background of what this novel is about:

Zoey Valentine is living a normal life in New York City. She reads, goes to baseball games with her dad, goes dancing with her best friend Madison and avoiding the bane of her existence and her next door neighbor, Ash. Then the virus hits, wiping out a third of the population. Everyone is scared, but it only gets worse when the bodies start disappearing and reappearing as the awakened. They’re like zombies, but smarter, quicker, meaner, and they are only focused on one thing: their hunger for human flesh. Now Zoey is on the run, away from New York City, hoping to find a place of safety, away from the virus and away from the monsters that are chasing her.

*************

The part that I’m about to share is this: Zoey has been having nightmares, nightmares of the awakened. She wakes up one night and turns to the last person she ever expects to find solace in: Ash Matthews.

“Can you…” I squirmed uncontrollably, hardly believing what I was about to ask him. “Can you stay here, with me?”

His eyebrow raised in confusion. “I’m not going anywhere.” I didn’t answer, just lifted up the blanket and scooted over, not meeting his eyes. “Oh. Oh!” It had dawned on him, finally.

The next few seconds were like the longest seconds of my life. When I felt the bed sink down from his weight, and the warmth of his body under the covers with me, I felt like letting out a sigh of relief. I didn’t though, of course, just scooted down to lay down, my back to Ash. His hand crept across the blankets before meeting mine. I jerked back, before letting his fingers intertwine with mine. The sound of deep breaths met my ears a moment later, and I fell asleep, my hand clutched in Ash’s.

The next time I woke, it was morning, and I felt warm. No, I felt hot, stifling. I noted that the blanket was not wrapped around me but there was a solid presence against my back. I opened my eyes slowly, and looked over my shoulder, finding Ash pressed tight against me, his chest rising and falling with each breath. He didn’t move, except to wrap his arm tighter around my waist. His hand was still, impossibly, intertwined with mine. I traced circles in his palm with the pad of my thumb. I was afraid to move or breathe. I didn’t want to break the spell that was cast over the two of us, that made it okay for us to sleep like that.

I wasn’t sure how long I lay there, before I heard a hitch in his breathing and his grip loosened. I froze, and then slowly looked over my shoulder again. Ash’s eyes were open, drowsy with sleep. He yawned widely and then looked down at me, his hand rested gently on my hip. His eyes widened when he realized how close we were and he pulled away.

“Shit, sorry, Zoey,” he said, pulling his hand away from my bare hip. Why the hell did I sleep with in just a tank top and my underwear? Why didn’t I exercise more restraint while having St. Joseph’s star quarterback in my bed? “I didn’t mean to…”

“It’s fine,” I said, stiffly, pulling the blanket up over my legs. “Can you maybe just…get out of my bed? Please?”

He ran a hand through his messy hair and I saw the slight shadow along his chin and jawline. I suddenly had the urge to run my hands across it, to feel the roughness of his skin. I leaned forward, our faces so close. He looked surprised, his sleepy eyes wide. My hand lifted to his face, as if it had a mind of its own, and I found myself cupping his cheek in my palm. Ash was incredibly still, waiting to see what I would do.

My entire body was shaking, and I moved myself closer, pressing my lips tight against his before pulling back, shocked at my own movements. Ash watched me in shock, his breath coming out quickly before he darted forward and captured me back in a forceful kiss. I gasped, and fell backward, my arms out in a shield. “No, don’t…don’t do that,” I said, scrambling away from him.

Ash was still on the bed, his hair ruffled, and his eyes wide in surprise, his lips red from the pressure. “Zoey…”

“No, just don’t…” I said, grabbing shorts from a drawer and pulling them over my underwear. “Don’t kiss me.”

He sat back, rubbing his brow, looking perplexed. “Okay, I won’t kiss you.”

I was still trembling. “Good. Great.” I spun on my heel and practically ran out of the room, doing the best I could to hide my flaming face as I went.

*************

The fact that you guys have very little context in this passage makes me kind of happy and hopefully makes you guys excited to read this! Let me know what you think!
