Such a hard question because when I read I kinda just fall in love with the story. I really do love the characters too but the story is the only thing that really stays with me.

I have to say though The Darkling is one Unforgettable Character and he left me wanting way more of him than I should want. Especially since he was the villain. He was totally fierce though in his evilness. haha.

I also enjoyed Juliette from the Shatter me series. I love how she became unapologetically badass. Characters that stray from the black and white are my favorite I guess. I just can’t believe in a character that is 100% good.

You know I have to say Tessa Grey was fierce as hell too. I loved The Infernal Devices and she was such a great character. I fell in love with her instantly.

& Of course one of my reasons for entering the giveaway Scarlet from The Lunar Chronicles gah! I loved her. I love Cinder too but Scarlet was my absolute fave.

OMG, I think I am rambling. This is like the first time I comment on a book blog and since I have been reading so much lately with no one to talk to about it I guess… Oh there goes my rambling. haha.

I love fierce characters, especially strong female leads, like Tris and Rose from Divergent and Vampire Academy. I think young girls, like me ^^, get really inspired and confident because of characters like that.

  3. Jamie Coudeville says:

What makes a character truly fierce: I think doing what you know is right regardless of the consequences. Even if you know you’ll get hurt or worse.

My favorite fierce character would be: Tris Prior. She would have sacrificed herself a hundred times for the people she loves.

  4. Laura M says:

This is a really hard question, I think all characters are fierce in their own way. :)
    The first four characters who come to mind who I think are fierce & brave are;
    1. Sophie Collins as a mundane from The Infernal Devices. After everything she’d been through in her past, she never let it define her future, she was very fierce, brave and held her ground when it came to Gideon. Not to mention she had so little training, but was will to fight as though she was a Shadowhunter as well.
    2. Angela Montgomery from The Lynburn Legacy. My god! She was so badass, she literally turned into a chain wielding badass. I honestly love the woman! (Plus, she’s hilarious!)
    3. Hector Delos & Helen Hamilton from the Starcrossed trilogy(by Josephine Angelini). They were pretty much ruthless and very fierce! Though I love how caring Hector is as well and determined they both are to do what’s right.

Lastly I would say, Jace Herondale & Isabelle Lightwood, but I’m pretty sure their birth certificates were stamped ‘BADASS’. Not to mention, can you imagine being on the bad side of the pair of them?!

  5. Liz (@LizsBookBuffet) says:

Fantastic questions! I think we initially associate the term “fierce” with female characters. It’s a strong female who stands up for herself, isn’t afraid to take risks to complete her goal, and may be a little badassery in the process. However, the term “fierce,” when describing male characters, tends to be different. We see that as a violent character who may be doing bad or good. It’s unfortunate that male characters receive the negative side of “fierce” more than females.

Some of my favorite fierce characters are Scout from “To Kill A Mockingbird,” Rain from “The Color of Rain,” Edward from “Twilight,” and Draco Malfoy from “Harry Potter.”

  6. Artemis says:

Female which fights for her independence and tackles the problems bravely. Smart, savvy and a hunter/fighter! Definitely not a weak character.
Some of my favorite fierce characters:
Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games, Hermione Granger from Harry Potter, Emma from Emma by Jane Austen, Jane Eyre and Lizzie Bennett, Pride & Prejudice.

  7. Michelle says:

Ok, great question. I think the most fierce characters are ones who are are who they are without apologizing. A fierce character or person is who they are and there is no one who can tell them they are wrong.

A great fierce character would be Hermione. She is strong, opinionated, and smart as can be!

  8. wallace712013 says:

What makes a character fierce is not backing down and standing up for the people they love and care about. A character that is fierce is Gwen Frost and her friends from the Mythos Academy series by Jennifer Estep. They don’t back down and they stand up for what’s right even if nobody is with them. Thanks for the giveaway!! :)

  9. ourshamelessobsessions says:

Since the majority of my favourite fierce characters are female I am going to direct this comment to the fierce female characters… I think a fierce character is a character that is multi-faceted and not one sided. When I say this I mean, a fierce character isn’t someone that has one of their characteristics played up more than anything else. For example, Cat Woman’s sexuality is over played throughout everything she does. Although she’s “badass” I don’t consider her fierce. However, someone like Isabelle Lightwood from The Mortal Instruments series is multifaceted because she has so may different sides of her that are displayed throughout the series. Like in City of Bones she seems like a cold-hearted, badass, bitch that can’t seem to like Clary, but in City of Heavenly Fire she was a girl who was simply fighting as hard as she could to save the people she loved. Even if that meant going to a demon realm from which no mortal has ever returned (not a spoiler it’s in the synopsis).

  10. Amber says:

What do you think makes a character truly fierce?:
I think that a fierce character is someone who doesn’t step down, they fight for what they believe in until the very end. They make sacrifices.

What are some of your favorite fierce characters?:
Lynn from A Handful of Dust, Meira from Snow Like Ashes, Cinder from the Lunar Chronicles, and Perry from Under the Never Sky, are just a few of many!

    Thanks for the giveaway! :D

  11. Mina says:

I think being brave makes a character fierce. I just tend to fall in love with brave characters. I love Tris from Divergent, Clary from TMI and Juliette from Shatter me

  12. Mina ♥ (@SweetLiLMina) says:

I think what makes a character fierce is a combination of their determination and motivation to reach for their dreams, but also strength and bravery to fight every step of the way for it. Even when the situation becomes difficult s/he does not give up and just fights harder to get what they want. I really adore strong and fierce characters so I have a lot, but some of them are Rose Hathaway, Penryn Young, and Katniss Everdeen.

  13. Paloma Mondaca says:

I think what makes a character truly fierce is that they have to be brave at any circumstance, have the power to overcome theirselves, be strong among others and be certain at making choices.
Some of my favorite fierce characters are Sansa from ‘A song of ice and fire’, Percy Jackson, Tris from ‘Divergent’ and Bilbo from ‘The Hobbit’.

  14. Annie Browen says:

Something that I believe makes a character fierce is when they are willing to put everything on the line to fight and stand up for something they believe in. I find that often characters always have one element in their way that stops them from standing up for their cause and I find that the rare times I find a characters that does stand up I sit and go “wow they are brave, they are fierce.” Characters that I find very fierce are Ember Miller and Chase Jennings from Article 5 by Kristen Simmons. Each of them have given up everything and fought for their world and for their country without even caring if they die. I find that they are truly fierce and brave. Thanks!!

  15. seashell09 says:

What makes a character truly fierce is there loyalty and love to their friends and family and how they will protect them no matter what, some of my favourites are: Tessa and Charlotte for the Infernal Devices and Alyssa from The Splintered Series.

  16. Roa'a Hamed says:

It isn’t the qualities of “strength” (ie. intelligence, wit, etc.) that make a character fierce, rather it is how they deal with their weaknesses that really makes them fierce and strong. How a character deals with a difficult situation reflects on their character. Whether they grow or degress from the experience is what makes them different from other characters, in my opinion.

My favorite fierce character is…Hazel Grace. She grows a lot in the book and I think how she struggles with her sickness and her relationship with Gus shows us how strong she is.

  17. Jessica Hernandez says:

I think what makes a character fierce is being confident about them selves and standing up for them selves. Not depending on other character like a boyfriend it a brother.

  18. Gaby says:

I think confidence and have firm beliefs in what they do makes a character fierce, and it’s something that also inspires people.

  19. obsessedunicorns says:

I believe that a character who is truly fierce is willing to do what ever it takes to achieve something. Whether its fighting zombies or sacrificing yourself. It is a person who is not going to back down and who will continue, as Jacob Black said, till their heart stops beating.

One of my favorite fierce character’s right now is Trish from the Divergent series. She has done so much and no matter what forces her down, she keeps standing right back.

  20. Breana M. says:

I think characters are truly fierce when they’er not centered around only a single trait, but rather a bunch that come together to form a character that can laugh, cry, be serious and strong when needed, smart, compassionate, and so on.

  21. Cassandra says:

I think what makes a character fierce is the strength and fierce loyalty they have towards friends and family and how they use their bravery to defend said friends and family and become a stronger person in the process. Tris Prior from Divergent and Katy Schwartz from the Lux Series are some of the characters I believe are fierce.

  22. Zaira F says:

For me, what makes a character fierce is if they are independent and they fight for what they believe in. One fierce character I know is (no surprise) Katniss Everdeen. She has become a symbol of rebellion which fights for the right thing, and that, to me, makes her one of the most fiercest characters I’ve ever encountered.

  23. Tamara says:

I think what makes a character force is personality and the way they solve problems how they face the truth and how they face other people. My favorite fierce character is Juliette (Shatter me)

  24. Cassidy Novotny says:

A characters determination to protect others and to not backdown from what she/he believes is right. Sydney Sage is the first one that comes to mind.

  25. CiCi J says:

What makes a character truly fierce? Doing what needs to be done, regardless of what anyone else (including they themselves) want or feel.

  26. Amber Smith says:

What makes a character truly fierce is when they do what they have to do in order to protect others, whether they know them or not. Bravery, loyalty and consideration are all fierce characteristics for me!

  27. absbrie says:

What makes a character fierce is how they act when put under pressure or how they act when they are in tough situation. Most stories characters can be considered fierce in different ways. Clary Fray, Percy Jackson, and others are all fierce characters, just not in the same general way.

  28. Christina says:

Thank God for books is all I can think sometimes. I’m particularly thrilled that people like Leigh Bardugo exist can write such exquisite literature that you wonder why can’t more books exist like hers? But then again, that’s the joy of reading. From the moment you pick up a book to the last moment you put it down, you get to indulge into something that bleeds into your mind and soul. Before you know it, your mind is dancing from the thrilling adventure it just had and the lessons you learned a long the way. Your mind sits back and relaxes, soaking in all you learned. The best part is once the adventure is over, you can go back and relive it again and share it with the world. And then suddenly like magic, you have something in common with another soul like yourself.

  29. Christina says:

In essence being fierce is being yourself. Both the authors and their characters embody this. Though they trip, stumble and get bruised along the way, they are who they are and we love them for it.

  30. Christina says:

Being yourself is fierce because it makes being brave enough to admit you don’t have all the answers but still try anyway. We don’t simply love these characters because they can strong or badass but because they are weak, fragile humans like the rest of us but still try to want more for themselves or others. It is the size of their heart and there ability to endure that makes what I consider fierce (flaws and all). I am particularly fond of Alana from the Grisha series. Trial after trial she struggled and stumbled both with physical and psychological demons that plagued get yet despite her flaws, I adored her because you loved her for her wit and perspective. No one has all the answers but if you keep your friends close and your chin up, you may not always succeed but at least endure and eventually thrive.
