Fandom Friday-The Lux Series

The Fandom Friday is a weekly feature, with each blog post written by a new contributor.

This is the weekly post where either myself, or a guest blogger, talks about a different fandom. See, I’ve had the experience in my life where I’ve been made fun of or put down about my particular fandoms. And that has made me feel pretty crappy. But I’ve also put down other fandoms as well.

So I decided to change that. I’m opening my world up to new fandoms, and the best way to do that is to bring people in to write about various fandoms. I’m very excited about this segment.

If you guys are interested in becoming a guest blogger for the Fandom Friday, feel free to email me at whatanerdgirlsays@gmail.com or contact me HERE

Today’s guest blogger is Meganand she’s here to talk to you about the Lux Series by Jennifer L. Armentrout!

Megan Kaniasty (Herondale/Lewis/Ivashkov/Black/Ryves/Shaw/Odair/Collins/Parnell…) is a 22 year old college student, ex-cheerleader, and consummate fan girl for books, movies, television shows, and celebrities. She is part of multiple blogs including two of her own created sites. She can’t get enough of the social media sites (Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr), where she allows her nerd girl freak-flag to fly high and proud. She loves people, she loves to read, and she loves fictional characters. Megan aspires to be a published author one day, and has many works in progress.

Check it out as Megan talks about the Lux Series, the story of Katy, a normal everyday fan girl like us, who meets Daemon Black, who is absolutely beautiful but doesn’t have the insides to match. Soon you learn that Daemon is part of an alien race and there’s a big reason why he can be such a jerk.

The Lux Series

Hey y’all, Megan here from iFandoms Collide and the Luxen Army.

The same friend who recommended I read The Mortal Instruments series years ago, had told me I should have had the Lux series read yesterday. Like the nerd girl I am, I bought all three books and started reading. I was literally laughing out loud as I read along. The Lux series has caused me to laugh, cry, gasp, scream, and shout, whether I was reading in public, or in private.

With that being said, I am here to tell you a little bit about the Lux series. Naturally, I went to Wiki for some help with the minor details. However, surprise, surprise, that page does not exist! WHAT?! Someone should really do something about that! Do not fret, I will educate you (spoiler free) on this must read series written by the talented Jennifer L. Armentrout.

Moving on…There are four books in the Lux series that are available, one of them is a prequel (which I have not read yet), one is coming out August 27th 2013, and the last book of the series is still just an idea.

This means there are going to be six books total in the Lux Series. These books are Shadows (prequel), Obsidian, Onyx, Opal, Origin (coming soon), and the sixth book that is, for now, nameless and unwritten.

Why should you read the Lux Series? I can give you the only reason you will need: DAEMON BLACK.

But in all seriousness, and without giving any spoilers away, this is why the Lux series is one of my favorites:

There is a girl named Katy Swartz and she moves to the middle of nowhere West Virginia with her mom after her father’s death. Katy is one of my favorite YA characters because she is just like me. She is a reader, a blogger and a vlogger-a total nerd. Not only is she this awesome fangirl, she is sarcastic, witty and she doesn’t take crap from anyone!

Enter Daemon Black here. Katy’s insanely hot neighbor, some would say he is inhumanly beautiful with his bright green eyes and perfect body. Too bad he is a complete jerk – “Beautiful face. Beautiful body. Horrible attitude. It was the holy trinity of hot boys.” -Obsidian.

I mentioned earlier that Katy doesn’t take crap from anyone, and I meant it, throughout the series, Katy keeps Daemon on his toes and in check. Don’t worry, every now and then, Daemon shows his sweet side, and when he does, you know he means it.

Dee Black is Daemon’s twin sister and the complete opposite of Daemon. Where as Daemon feels superior to most people, Dee just wants to make friends of her own choosing. She has a bubbly personality and befriends Katy right away. Dee is the perfect balance to Daemon.

Obsidian, Onyx, and Opal are all written in Katy‘s point of view of first person. The Lux Series are the type of books that will keep you up all night reading, and that you will want to re-read over and over again. You will not regret picking up this series. I really wish I could go into more detail about the Lux series, but there are HUGE events that I just refuse to spoil, so for now I will tell you this: For the perfect bantering, relationships, mystery, adventures, family drama, and sexual tension (Sara: so much sexual tension!), read the Lux series!

Sara’s Input:

I first picked up this book at Barnes and Noble when I went there to fulfill my book addiction. I saw that it had generally good reviews, though the covers really turned me off. I’m trying to stick away from books that are strictly romance and annoying, if you know what I mean. But I bought it because it sounded good and like I said, the reviews were good.

Then I met Megan about a week later :) She’s one of my co-bloggers for iFandoms Collide! We’re both book nerds so we got to talking about books and she brought up this series. I hadn’t picked up the book yet, so hearing from a fellow Shadowhunter that they were good really helped endear me to this series.

The series is basically science fiction and romance, which you don’t see too much in the YA genre; we mostly see the fantasy and paranormal aspect so this was kind of cool. I like that there’s an alien race. I also like that Katy is so unlike Bella Swan. Daemon is SUCH a jerk to her and instead of being like “oh he’s so cute and awesome”, she gets made, flips him off, calls him a dick. Its awesome.

I also like that Katy is a book blogger. I mean, I’m a book blogger. Its badass.

Read more about what I think of the series in my book review of Obsidian, linked below :)
