National Coming Out Day!

Now some of you may know this but yesterday was National Coming Out Day. I really love this day because it really encourages everyone, straight, gay, lesbian, bi to be themselves and to accept themselves and to be accepting of others. I loved reading all the tweets, seeing all the pictures on Instagram and the posts on Facebook celebrating this day. It’s wonderful to see all the people who are so proud of who they are.

And then I realized that I should do the same. I should.

I have been lucky enough to find the perfect guy for me. He is amazing and we have been together for nearly five years. He is funny and insanely smart and super musically talented. He supports me through anything, good and bad, and knows me better than anyone. He gets my nerdiness, the cosplays and the stakeouts and midnight premieres and crying over fictional characters.I can’t want to marry this boy, I couldn’t ask for anyone better.

But there has been something I had been hiding for awhile from everyone I knew. I eventually got up the nerve to tell my boyfriend, my best friend and my sisters, who are very much like my best friends, and they have been so supportive. So now I tell you, and whomever reads this blog. I know that it’s not the best way to say it but I’m a writer and that’s the best way I know how.

But basically, on the day after National Coming Out Day, I’m finally coming out as a bisexual. I am proud to be one and I’m not hiding it any longer. I am attracted to both men and women. This changes nothing about my relationship because I love my boyfriend more than anything and he has been so insanely supportive of this. And whether or not it ever changes anything, I wanted it to be said. You should never have to hide something about yourself. If there is one thing that I’ve learned over the years from reading all these books and watching all these shows and movies and reading even more books, it’s that the best thing in the world to be is to be yourself. And I watched all those people yesterday, being so proud of who they were, I knew that I had to be too. And I definitely am.

I hope so much that my declaration doesn’t scare people away but if it does, then maybe you weren’t the person for this blog in the first place :) Here at whatanerdgirlsays, we accept everyone, no matter what you are.

And I hope that you can too :)
