Nerd Ink, Part Two!

So this week has been hard as far as blog posts have gone. I’ve been writing a lot of these at the beginning of the week, and scheduling them to be posted on the day that they are supposed to be posted. My best friend is getting married today (tomorrow, from my perspective) and I’m just SO busy. I was also unable to find a contributor for the Fandom Friday this week, so I have a little something special instead!

Over a year ago, I did a post, featuring a lot of my friends and their nerd ink. Way before I joined the Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army and started this blog, I didn’t know a lot of people with nerd ink. I knew a few people online, and maybe a couple in real life, but I wasn’t as immersed in the world. As soon as I joined LADA, I saw SO many Harry Potter tattoos, and I felt like…yay, my family!

Then as my nerd endeavors have increased due to this blog, I’ve met more and more people with tattoos and I love it. So far, I have six tattoos.

All of my tattoos so far are fandom related (mostly). My first tattoo was the Deathly Hallows symbol, which is on my right wrist. My second tattoo was “wit beyond measure” under that, and “man’s greatest treasure” on my left wrist, also from Harry Potter. The third one I got was “The last enemy that shall be destroyed is death” from Harry Potter, as well, the quote on Harry Potter’s parents’ gravestone, paired with page stars. The fourth one I got was the Rebellion Alliance symbol from Star Wars. The fifth one I got was “Always”, also from Harry Potter, on my ankle. The musical notes are the only non-fandom part, they are musical notes from “Konstantine” by Something Corporate. The last and most recent tattoo that I got was the Fearless rune tattoo from The Mortal Instruments series.

I won’t go into detail for each tattoo, but I will say there are two main reasons I got each tattoo. One is that they all come from fandoms that mean a LOT to me. Harry Potter, Star Wars and Mortal Instruments have all played important parts in my life and getting permanent ink shows my love for those series. But I also got them because they all kind of have something to do with fear and courage. I can be a fearful person and I got these as a way to learn to overcome all the fears I have, from the fear of spiders to my fear of failing and being left alone.

Now I have a ton of tattoos to share with you! These are some seriously awesome people, with equally awesome tattoos!

Also, if you click on the person’s name, you’ll reach their blogs, Twitters, etc. so make sure to follow them!

Ang

A bookworm because she loves books!

Galaxy Fox

(yes, that’s her real name)

My tattoo is Wolverine from the classic animated series.

I got this because I am a huge comic book and X-Men fan! And also because I feel I closely relate to Wolverine’s character in and out of costume. We have the same way of dealing with our pain and we are both very intuitive and strong willed people.

Thomas

My tattoo is the ship from Galaga.

Story behind this isn’t all that interesting but basically i’m a huge nerd and wanted to get a tattoo that reminded me of my dad, my dad used to play a SHIT TON of galaga back in the day. He talks about it all the time, always looks for the game at arcades we go to and my earliest memory of him was that he got a port of the game for the PC and he and i would play it even though i was only 3 years old. means a lot to me. hope to get more nerdy tattoos but this ones my first.

Steve

It’s the name of my favourite character ever, Castiel (from the TV show Supernatural) written in Circular Gallifreyan, the alphabet featuerd in another favourite show, Doctor Who.
Why I got it: I was planning on something Supernatural related but changed my mind the night before I had the appointment to get inked, and picked this one. Castiel is my favourite character of all time, and as an illustrator/designer, I find Gallifreyan writing fascinating and extremely beautiful. Plus, Doctor Who and Supernatural are the two shows that have helped me during the most difficult times of my life, and have literally saved me from losing my mind. This tattoo will always mean the world to me.

Mimi Schweid

This is the Dark-Hunter Double Bow and Arrow, the Fearless rune and Angelic Power Rune. The double bow and arrow is for my love for Sherrilyn Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series. She’s a dyslexic author that is always on the best seller list and I hope to one day be like her. The Angelic power, the one underneath it is a victory tattoo for surviving my first year of college and the Fearless on my right wrist was for starting college/a new chapter in my life.

Effie

My tattoo is of Sputnik II and Laika, who became the first animal and living organism larger than a microbe to be launched into orbit. She died within hours after launch of overheating but because of her it paved the way for human spaceflight.

Why you got the tattoo: I got the tattoo because I love space and the exploration of space, but without Laika and Sputnik II our discoveries could have come at a later time. This was to honor her memory and her death to further help our understanding of the cosmos and our place in the universe.

Tahnee

And her Supernatural Instagram Account

My tattoo is from supernatural, it’s the protection symbol that Sam and Dean have, Castiels wings, and I chose Latin writing because they always use Latin in the show, and it says “carry on my wayward son” which is the theme song :)
I got it because supernatural is my favorite show and felt I needed something to express it :)

Sarah

I got this at the same time as my best friend. We’ve both been through hellish times, my sister broke her spine, her brother died in a car accident but through it all we were there got each other through thick and thin, true parabatais. I’d be lost without her.

I got this quote because I’ve spent my life shying away from anything that could hurt me. I got this tattoo when i decided the time was right to go to university to remember no matter how scary it is at the end of it something amazing will happen.

Bethany

The first one is from the anime, D.Gray-Man. A saying that Mana Walker would always tell Allen Walker before he died. I chose this quote because at the time, the quote was very meaningful to me. I felt like it was words that I need to live by and words that I still need to live by. Plus, it was the first anime that my brother and I actually watched together. Especially he is the one who got me started on anime. And it’s an awesome anime!

This is the healing rune from The Infernal Devices and The Mortal Instruments. I chose the healing rune because it’s one of my favorite runes, from my favorite series.

Lorie Nicewonger

This tattoo is “Always”  Snape’s love for Lilly Evans Potter from Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince.
Along with chapter stars. Lori got this tattoo, because “that’s how I feel about the series. HP will “always” be my favorite book series.”

Amanda B.

Harry Potter Always :) (or forever but this is my interpretation of an Always tattoo)
Because I’ve always wanted a Harry Potter tattoo. The books helped me through difficult times.

Josh Taylor

The Deathly Hallows are a major plot point and source of power from the magical world of Harry Potter.
4. I got the tattoo because the books and movies got me through some very dark times in my childhood (self acceptance issues) and I wanted a constant reminder to look at, to keep me going should I feel down.

Michelle H.

These are the chapter stars from the American edition of the Harry Potter books.  The tattoo is located on each wrist. I battle with depression. When I am low, I turn to Harry and the gang. More recently, I am unable to read as often as I need. I see the stars, on my wrist, approximately where my book would rest and it comforts me. Sometimes, it is the only reminder I need.

I hope that you all enjoyed checking out these nerd tattoos! I think its really awesome that all these people are able to express their love for a particular book or TV show, or just something nerdy, by creating art on their skin. Beautiful.
If you would like to be featured in a future edition of Nerd Ink, please email me a picture of your tattoo, what it is (because I may not know haha!) and why you got it!
Happy Nerd Everyone!

    Heey there guys! (:

I like all your tattoos, I really do. And I can’t wait to get my first tattoo. I want to have three at a time. On my wrists and my spine. On my left wrist it will be ‘Nosce Te Ipsum’ with wings. Kat Graham, an talented actress of ‘The Vampire Diaries’, who plays Bonnie Bennett, has those three latin words too. It means ‘know yourself’…
The last one will be runes from ‘The Mortal Instruments’ series. Fearless and Heal. I think I’m gonna ink something that’s related to ‘The Hunger Games’ too. But I don’t know what it will be. ^^

I love Bethany’s tattoo out of D.Gray-man. It’s one of my favourite animes and it will always be one of them. Allen’s the best. :*
And I like Tahnee’s. Supernatural. Castiel’s my favourite character. ^^

    Well. That’s then. (:
    Let’s see if I have enough courage to do that. (;

[- hope it’s okay. I’m austrian, sometimes my english is… yeah. not the best. ^^’ -]

    Heey there!
I’m back again – after almost a whole year. (o_o) But finally I had the courage to do it… My right wrist is now adorned by a tattoo. Funnily it is about Hunger Games related tattoo. I’ve got it since September, butlast week I had to go again for correction and touch up. ^-^ So if you still wanna see it, just tell me what I have to do. (:

Please check out my latest post, In Need of Nerd Ink (or something like that, I can’t remember the exact title) and it’ll tell you all you need to know!

  3. Daniel says:

What exactly does the words on the supernatural tattoo spell, can’t really read it. Either way, I don’t believe they translate to “carry on my wayward son” since that is “porto in devium filius”.

  4. Daniel says:

Aw well that sucks, cause I really wanted it to know what it says lol I really like that one and thought about getting it myself, I’ll look around maybe someone knows, thank you!
