Today was a SERIOUSLY good day to be a Shadowhunter, a.k.a. a fan of Cassandra Clare’s series, The Mortal Instruments and the Infernal Devices.
For those of you who are unware of what I’m talking about it, you obviously don’t read my blog. I am obsessed with both of those series. I even have a tattoo, a rune that Ms Clare created for her characters, the Shadowhunters.
Anyway, they are seriously popular and amazing young adult-fantasy-romance novels, and I’m addicted to them. In just a month, the final installment of the Infernal Devices series will hit the shelves, and in about six months, the movie adaptation of City of Bones, the first book in the Mortal Instruments series, will hit theaters. Combine that with the fact that she’s releasing companion stories of extremely popular character, Magnus Bane (who appears in both series), and the much anticipated Shadowhunter Codex, in addition to going on tour to promote these, and it looks like a year for Ms. Clare.
Today was a GREAT day for news for those of us who are SUPER excited for all the Shadowhunter awesomeness of this year.
First off, Sony Pictures has announced the official licensing for Mortal Instruments merchandise, in anticipation of the movie release this coming summer. If you take a look at the list I’ve taken off Cassandra’s tumblr, you can see that there is some seriously awesome stuff coming our way and I cannot WAIT to buy all of these things.
Journals, notebooks, clothing dolls, temporary tattoos (though, I’m so cool with my real one :P), replicas, stickers, pendants, magnets, costumes, etc. Look! So many awesome things coming our way!
I’m a little bummed about the movie-tie-in editions of books. I knew that was going to happen but it always bums me out. I hate when the books have the movie covers. I like the original covers, you know? Oh well…
Then it was officially released: the cover of the much anticipated Shadowhunter Codex. The Codex is kind of a Shadowhunter bible. It tells their history, their ways, rules, laws, what they wear, what the believe. It teaches of Downworlders. It’s the Hogwarts, A History of the Mortal Instruments world. As Hermione uses Hogwarts, A History to become aquainted with the world of Hogwarts, Clary uses the Shadowhunter Codex to learn of the Nephilim world. Here is the official cover:
For those who are fans of the series, you’ll recognize the iconic image of the angel Raziel rising out of Lake Lyn, the Mortal Instruments in hand, ready to help Jonathan Shadowhunter defeat the demons of the world. I seriously canNOT wait until this comes out, and I’m sad I have to wait until October 29th to read it. You can preorder it now, so head over to this link to preorder. I already have!
Thirdly, Cassandra Clare revealed her BRAND NEW Shadowhunter app for the Iphone.
I have an iPhone. I got it mostly because it was cheap, and I like it well enough, but I’ve never been like OHMYGOD IPHONES! But now, now I am SO excited to have an iPhone. I downloaded this iphone exclusive app in a couple seconds, and its now on my homepage. It will have everything you need to be connected to this fandom: news, Cassie’s twitter and tumblr feeds, snippets from books that you won’t get anywhere else (until someone puts them on tumblr…) and all sorts of things. This is a HUGE thing and very exciting. Its a FREE app, and you can download it on itunes NOW!
Lastly, through this reveal of the new app, Cassandra released the prologue of the upcoming finale of the Infernal Devices, Clockwork Princess. The prologue has two different events; a past event in the eyes of Aloysius Starkweather, who we meet in previous books, a seriously disturbing event that happens to his granddaughter, Adele. The other event is the first time the two main male characters, Jem and Will, meet for the first time.
Now, I promised myself I wouldn’t read the prologue. I like to read a book in its entirety, being completely surprised the entire time. That was the best part of getting a new Harry Potter book; you literally had NO idea what was going to happen, not even in the small ways. I liked that JKR kept even the smallest of details secret. I try to stay away from snippets and previews of the new Cassie books. But I caved in; I read the prologue. Now I don’t know if I’ll make it to March 19th. This book is going to be great, and its most likely going to break the heart of every Shadowhunter fan out there.
Now, of course, the prologue was exclusive to the app, for all of about five minutes :) Now you can find it on a ton of different TMI and TID tumblrs and I have found one for you so you can check it out.
Try not to let your heart break like mine did.
Clockwork Princess Prologue Sneak Peek
