Books

I read TWO books in the past week.

First off, Elle Kennedy’s new novel, The Risk, the second in the Briar U series, came out this week and it was an instant buy. I have been in such a slump and her hockey romance always captures me no matter. She just writes it so well! I read it in one sitting and just completely enjoyed it. The review is linked below.

The other book I read this week was also a book I read in one sitting, The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton. I have had it sitting on my shelves for entirely way way too long and finally picked it up on Wednesday while I was home sick and just loved every minute of it; I couldn’t put it down and I’m dying for the sequel. Good thing I don’t have to wait too long!

Right now, I’m working on Of Fire and Stars by Audrey Coulthurst; I’m really hoping to finish it soon so that I can dive into the ARC for the second novel!

Sara’s Newsies Corner

Here I share the news in the nerd world that I got excited about this week! It may not contain every bit of news – that would be insane!

MY BIRTHDAY IS THIS WEDNESDAY, YAY! That’s newsworthy, right?

There was an announcement by YALLWest for their 2019 authors, which you can check out here. There are a ton of really great authors on the list, but I’m not overly excited, probably because I’ve met a good majority of them. The only ones really catching my eye are Audrey Coulthurst and Sarah Dessen, but its all about whether I’m brave enough to handle all the crowds for those two. We shall see!

Romancelandia also blew the HELL up this week too, when several romance authors, including Courtney Milan, Tessa Dare and more, and their fans outed romance author, Cristiane Serruya, for straight up plagiarism. Its been a whirlwind to watch it all unfold, mostly on Twitter and honestly, it makes me super angry and super upset. As an author myself, I know how hard these women work to write their books and to have someone just take it all, slap it together and call it their own is just god awful. The last I checked, it was up to 24 authors she’d stolen from, in addition to taking from various articles and recipes. The original story broke on Courtney Milan’s blog, which you can read here, and Book Riot has done a phenomenal job of keeping up with the drama as it unfolds. You can also follow the story on Twitter on #CopyPasteCris.

Nora Roberts also wrote about the scandal on her personal blog, as she was personally affected by this, and god, I have so much respect for this woman. You can read it here.

It honestly disgusts the hell out of me. I don’t know how anyone could think they’d get away with something like that, especially in the genre that defends itself to the tee. Do we not remember Cockygate?!

Watched

I finally watched The Incredibles 2 now that its on Netflix and I ADORED it. Seriously, I may like it even more than the first one; it was so so good! Without doing too many spoilers, I loved that it was super female led, both heroes and villains and I love that a lot of characters got a say in the movie. It was so funny and I am addicted to how absolutely adorable Jack-Jack is!

I started watching The Umbrella Academy on Netflix. I keep hearing about it and I knew it was based off the graphic novels written by emo king, Gerard Way of My Chemical Romance. I’m about three or four episodes in – not entirely sure how I feel about it yet but I think I’m going to keep watching.

I also rewatched both How to Train Your Dragon 1 and 2 in anticipation of the third one, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, which I then went and watched this past Friday night. I have a review coming very soon so watch out for that! Honestly that movie was so freaking emotional that I don’t know if I’m in the right mindset yet to write a review without becoming a mess again.

I literally have only been listening to the same playlists – my Panic! at the Disco, Fall Out Boy and Set It Off  playlist and my Disney playlist. You can listen to both of them below haha.
