The Top Ten Tuesday is a weekly challenge post previously hosted by The Broke and Bookish and now hosted by The Artsy Reader Girl. You can follow along for each weekly post here. This week’s post was all about upcoming releases that I was on the fence about but I just couldn’t really think of any books that came to mind so I twisted the topic a little and decided to share ten books that I’ve been on the fence about reading, either books that have already come out and books that will come out.

Children of Virtue and Vengeance by Tomi Adeyemi

I’m pretty sure I’m not going to read this book. I wasn’t massively impressed by the first one, I thought it was a little overhyped and the business with Nora Roberts really just turned me off to Tomi as a person. The only reason I hesitate is because…well, its hard for me to write off books when I haven’t read them and maybe it’ll get better.

Ignite Me by Tahereh Mafi

Technically I know how this book ends because I asked a friend after she finished reading it. I loved the first two but there was a direction that it was going in that I didn’t agree with and when it was confirmed by my friend in book three, I didn’t want to read it. I have no hate or anything like that toward Tahereh – its her book, her world – but I just lost interest in the book because of this.

Turtles All the Way Down by John Green

I have read all of John Green’s novels up to this post. I like John as a person but I think he’s pretty over-hyped as an author and his female characters tend to be manic pixie dream girls and barf at that. I hesitate because its hard for me to speak negatively against an author when I haven’t read everything and I’ve read almost everything of his except this.

I Have Lost My Way by Gayle Forman 

I ADORE Gayle – she’s so freaking sweet – but her YA novel previous to this one just did not impress me at all, it just felt…flat. I loved her If I Stay duology and her Just One Day duology but…I Was Here made me hesitate on instantly reading her books. This one is just still a maybe for me.

Illuminae by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff

I’ve heard nothing but truly amazing things about this series but the book itself just seems so intimidating. Its not even the size – its just the way the story itself is laid out. Call me a traditionalist but I just have a hard time reading a book that’s just not a pure narrative – its why I can’t enjoy graphic novels either. I’m just not sure if I’ll enjoy the format in which the story is presented.

The Last Star by Rick Yancey

I absolutely LOVED The 5th Wave; in fact, I say often how much of an influence it was on The Awakened. However, the sequel fell a little flat to me and made me less than excited to read the third and final book. I’ve owned it since its release but it has sat pretty on my shelf, waiting – or not – for me to open it.

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor 

I have never read a book by Laini. I feel like this makes me a terrible YA fan but I just never have. I don’t really have an excuse, I just literally have never sat down and read one of her books. She hovers in the unsure category only because I honestly don’t know if that’ll ever change.

The 100 by Kass Morgan

I still have no idea how to feel about the book or the show. I started the book and only read about five pages. I watched the entire first season and never continued – and I’ve totally met the cast haha. It constantly pops up while I’m out book shopping but I just skip it every time.

And I Darken by Kiersten White

I adore Kiersten and her books but I just can’t seem to make a decision about this book. I think I’ve read the first five pages of it about ten times and I don’t know. Its intriguing but its a retelling of a part of history that’s not PARTICULARLY interesting to me so I just skip it every time.

The Star Touched Queen by Roshani Chokshi

I’m almost positive that I want to read this one but its also been built up by so many people that I’m afraid of it letting me down, which happens quite a bit. If too many people say they love it, I get way too excited and then really sad if it doesn’t live up to the hype. Sigh.
