Tuesday Top Ten – Book Boyfriends/Girlfriends!

Every Tuesday, the blog The Broke and Bookish hosts the Tuesday Top Ten, where you count down different categories that are bookish! If you’d like to participate, check out their website for more information on the category for each week!

I used to be really good at keeping up with these before I took a brief hiatus from blogging so its super good to be back! And its especially good to be back with a topic like this. I am quite good at falling in love with fictional characters. Let’s get started with my top ten.

Jase Winstead from J Lynn’s Be With Me

“I love you like I love cupcakes.”

First off, I don’t know that I fully fell in love with the Wait for You series until I read Tessa and Jase’s book and let’s face it, its totally because of Jase. The guy works on a horse ranch, is incredibly sexy and smart, handles his responsibilities (I don’t want to spoil the book!) and brings Tessa cupcakes all the time. Its basically the dream guy.

Inej from Leigh Bardugo’s Six of Crows Duology

“I will have you without armor, Kaz Brekker, or I will not have you at all.”

There’s something about Inej that I adore from page one. She’s been through so much and even though she’s part of this street gang, I think she genuinely holds on to all the goodness in her. Plus she’s whip smart, and talented and badass and I would fight Kaz Brekker for her, for sure.

Four from Veronica Roth’s Divergent Trilogy

“I might be in love with you. I’m waiting until I’m sure to tell you, though.”

Even though I didn’t love the series as a whole, I have such a love for the first two books and I adore Four so much. (I ain’t calling him Tobias; it reminds me way too much of Tobias Funke from Arrested Development and I just can’t haha). He is badass as a Dauntless, living with his fears, being badass with a gun and his body, but he’s also caring and loving and he tries so hard to embody all the factions. Swoon.

Adrian Ivashkov from Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy/Bloodlines Series

“I’m not going to give you a hard time. I’m just going to love you whether you want me to or not.”

I will 100% always ship Rose with Dimitri in this series but the second that Adrian was introduced in book two, I was in love. Sure, he was a sarcastic, spoiled, unambitious rich Moroi vampire but he was funny and sexy and I knew there was a lot more to him than just that surface stuff. And, duh, I was totally proven right in the Bloodlines series.

Captain Thorne from Marissa Meyer’s Lunar Chronicles

“I should hope so, after all that.” He leaned forward and pressed a kiss against her temple. “And I love you too.”

Okay, let’s be real, if Cress is Rapunzel and that would make Thorne Flynn Rider and I adore Flynn and it was just destined to be. He’s handsome and he knows it, and he makes me laugh so much. But it’s also the fact that he doesn’t give up in a fight and is so incredibly kind to Cress.

Carson McClain from Cora Cormack’s Rusk Series

“I can deny myself all I want, but one thing I cannot deny is just how fucking gorgeous this girl is. And exactly the kind of distraction I’m supposed to be staying away from.”

Everyone tends to be a Silas or Torres girl when it comes to the Rusk series but for me, it will always be Carson. First off, he’s the one who coined the term No Easy Days, which is now tattooed on the inside of my arm. Secondly, he’s Carson! He comes from nothing basically, worked his ass off at a smaller college and then comes to Rusk and works even harder. It’s one of the sexiest things ever.

Nikolai from Leigh Bardugo’s Grisha Trilogy

“Nikolai,” he corrected. “But I’ve also been known to answer to ‘sweetheart’ or ‘handsome.”

Forget the Darkling. Forget Mal. I’m fully a Nikolai girl. He’s the younger prince who would much rather become a pirate named Sturmhond and he’s funny and charming and a great fighter. He’s also freaking smart as hell and gets so little credit from his family. I seriously cannot handle that he’s getting his own book in two years!

Michael Moscovitz from Meg Cabot’s The Princess Diaries Series

“Mia, I’m not sorry. And I’ll wait.
Love, Michael.”

The first time I ever read The Princess Diaries was when I was 12 years old and I’ve basically been in love with Michael ever since. He’s smart, helps Mia with her algebra homework (SWOON!), runs his own webzine (would that just be a blog now?) and he’s in a band. He loves Star Wars! He gives Mia a Hoth Leia usb drive to back up her novel. He’s literally the DREAM. I adore him at 29 just as much as I did at 12.

Rose Hathaway from Richelle Mead’s Vampire Academy Series

“Rose,” he said, forcibly trying to keep a serious tone, “I can think of many words to describe you, sexy and hot being at the top of the list. You know what’s not on the list? Sane.”

Someone once told me that Rose reminded them of me. I don’t know what that says about me but whatever. I adore Rose Hathaway, and the fact that she was played by my girl, Zoey Deutch, probably makes the crush that much worse. She’s a badass, stubborn and loyal, hilarious and just downright freaking awesome. If she were a real person, I’d be a goner in about two seconds flat.

Jace Wayland Morgenstern Lightwood Herondale from Cassandra Clare’s The Mortal Instrument Series

“There is no pretending,” Jace said with absolute clarity. “I love you, and I will love you until I die, and if there is life after that, I’ll love you then.”

I first read the first three books of the Mortal Instruments series seven and a half years ago when I was single and heartbroken and I fell in love with Jace. He literally kept me from going insane. And he remains my main book babe, without question. He’s funny and smart and sarcastic and a badass Shadowhunter and he says some of the sweetest and romantic things that would make any girl swoon.
