WonderCon Day Two Highlights-City of Bones Day!

Hey everyone! Hope you’re all having a good weekend!

As you all may know, I’ve been hitting up WonderCon in Anaheim, California this weekend (thank goodness its so close to home!), and trying to keep you guys as updated as possible on the awesomeness that I’ve been experiencing.

Yesterday was a Harry Potter day, where I wore my Ravenclaw outfit, completely with blue and silver tutu, and manned the Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army table!

Today, was all about the Shadowhunters.

Today, I wore my Shadowhunters shirt, which you can see below:

The back said “Looking Better in Black Since 1234”. I covered my arms in runes, and  showed off my actual Fearless tattoo.

Because today was ALL about City of Bones.

There was a City of Bones panel today at WonderCon where Cassandra Clare, Jamie Campbell Bower, Lily Collins, and Kevin Zegers talked about the movie and the books.

Here’s our lovely author now:

Yeah, I know, I just saw her last Friday at the Mission Viejo library (read all about that here!) but I’m a stalker…I mean, a HUGE fan :)

And can I just say that…they seriously picked some attractive people to play the  characters in the books?

It was a SERIOUSLY fun panel. I am actually really proud to say I am part of this fandom, and not just because of how much I love the books and how much they’ve done for me, but for the mature and intelligent cast that we have collected. Jamie, Lily and Kevin are all fairly young and yet they have such poise and maturity and all of their responses dripped with intelligence. I am proud of the actors that were selected for these roles.

Lily was super sweet, and said that Clary has been her favorite role to play, and that she hopes this movie does well so they can make sequels (I HOPE SO!) because she enjoys the role so much. She also says its the role she’s grown so much with, that she became more of an adult while making the movie. She also mentioned again how she likes Magnus as a character, not only because of how fabulous he is, with all that glitter, but because he has such a back story and such a history.

Jamie and Kevin were just plain hilarious. Jamie was cracking jokes and calling Kevin sexy, and staring at himself in the video screens, saying that he was vain and liked to look at himself. You know, I’ve always expressed confidence in Jamie as Jace, but he wasn’t at all what I pictured and I’ve had some hard times wrapping my head around it but after this panel, I was 110% convinced. Jamie IS Jace. He had the right attitude, knowing that Jace is arrogant and snarky but also knowing that he has a vulnerability too.

And his chemistry with Kevin, who plays his parabatai (a pair of warriors closer than brothers), was fantastic, as they made jokes about how they couldn’t stand each other. AND when asked who their favorite character from the series was (besides the one they play), Kevin said “Well, I have to say Magnus, don’t I?” with a big smile on his face. Spoiler alert: Alec and Magnus are the best couple in the books.

I think Jamie’s response was the best though. He talked about Isabelle and how BADASS and strong she is, and then he said, “You know, I just really like my sister. In the books.” Of course, he was referring to his adopted sister, Isabelle, but the irony of the brother-sister-incestuous relationship between Clary and Jace that comes up in the books made all the fans laugh. It was just too funny to handle.

Another awesome highlight from the panel was one of the fans that came up to the microphone for the Q and A part of the event introduced her baby to them, and her baby’s name was Jace. I LOVE it, even though I totally want to do it. And I can! Jace comes from Jonathan Christopher—>J.C.——>Jace. My boyfriend’s name is Jonathan and his brother’s name is Christopher. It totally works.

Okay, moving on…

Then afterwards, they had their meet and greet. It WAS a limited thing, and you had to go earlier in the day to try and get a wristband or ticket for the event. Luckily, I had gotten my way into the front of the line meet and greet and was able to meet them without that hassle. yay! I hate lines!

They were all SUPER fabulous to meet and really awesome, and so good looking that it was hard to get a sentence out without tripping over my words. They signed a poster and a book for me, and it was just super cool. I was excited to meet Cassie again, and VERY excited to get a chance to meet some of the cast.

Here are the awesome things I got signed.

A GINORMOUS City of Bones poster that was just too big to take a picture of the whole thing:

Cassie and Jamie’s signatures.

lily and kevin

Lily and Kevin’s signatures. Kevin’s is so LIGHT in the picture but it comes up well on the poster!

And also the City of Bones book they signed:

Kevin Zegers had to be cool and have his own page! Haha.

They also released two NEW posters today too, featuring Lily and Jamie:

I also went to another panel today, one that talked about LGBTQ subtext in comics and fantasy. We all know that I feel strongly in this subject and my friend Erin told me about the panel after we’d stalked Cassie Clare, so we went to check it out. The guests included Jane Espenson (Buffy, Angel, Once Upon a Time), Brad Bell (Husbands), and Wendy Pini (ElfQuest), among others.

It was really interesting, especially because of the way that I feel about this subject and because I’m sensitive to those relationships in books and movies, or when there is subtext or subtle clues to same-sex relationships. It wasn’t a panel I had planned on attending but it was one that I ended up really, really enjoying. It also made me REALLY want to watch Husbands, which both Brad Bell and Jane  Espenson worked on.

All in all, a TRULY awesome day, I am super tired, which is normal for a convention weekend but I am REALLY excited about tomorrow, for the last day of the convention. I want to see The Spotlight on Jane Espenson and Brad Bell, especially after today’s panel and I really want to go to a panel that talks about writing for tweens and teens, which is what my main focus is in novel writing.

Its been a GREAT weekend and I can’t wait to continue it.

What have been some of your favorite parts of WonderCon?

Omg I’m so jealous! well, I live in Uruguay so I had no chance to go to the WonderCon but I followed the live tweeting and god I wish I was there! I love the cast, and I love Jamie and Kevin’s relationship. Wish I had their signatures, by the way :).
‘You’re so pretty, by the way’ keeps repeating in my head with Jamie’s accent and omg fangirling everywhere. Can you even imagine how would Alec feel if Jace told him that? too much emotions and excitement for the new trailer, can’t wait to see it, I bet it’s magnificent! Loved your story! x
