Book Review: Fame, Fate and the First Kiss by Kasie West

Lacey Barnes has dreamt of being in a movie for as long as she can remember. However, while her dream did include working alongside the hottest actor in Hollywood, it didn’t involve having to finish up her senior year of high school at the same time she was getting her big break. Although that is nothing compared to Donavan, the straight-laced student her father hires to tutor her, who is a full-on nightmare.

GOODREADS SUMMARY:

Lacey Barnes has dreamt of being in a movie for as long as she can remember. However, while her dream did include working alongside the hottest actor in Hollywood, it didn’t involve having to finish up her senior year of high school at the same time she was getting her big break. Although that is nothing compared to Donavan, the straight-laced student her father hires to tutor her, who is a full-on nightmare.

As Lacey struggles to juggle her burgeoning career, some on-set sabotage, and an off-screen romance with the unlikeliest of leading men, she quickly learns that sometimes the best stories happen when you go off script.

MY REVIEW

You know what I love best about diving into a Kasie West book? The fact that I know I’m going to get a fun, romantic, easy read that instantly puts me into a good mood. This book was no different.

I love books about celebrities or that take place on a movie set or a tv set. I’ve always liked knowing what’s going on in the background – it doesn’t ruin the magic for me, it makes it even better. I think its why working at Disneyland made the magic that much more for me. I love the idea of getting to know an actress or movie star or rock star and seeing what life is like behind the scenes. This is the next best thing and it genuinely made for such a fun book. It was entertaining and I read it in a matter of a couple hours because I was so sucked into the story. I really really want to see the movie that Lacey is making – it sounds cheesy, campy and totally fun.

I always love how Kasie has such sweet romances in her books. I read a lot of fantasy that gets dark and dramatic and heartbreaking and I need a break from that and this book was SO good for that. Lacey was an entertaining main character that I wanted to be my best friend and Donavan was just adorable – he sounded exactly like the kind of boy I would’ve had a crush on in high school. I liked that there was so much simplicity and sweetness to their relationship. It was so cute and I really appreciated a story like that. I love that Kasie writes the excitement and giddiness of a teen romance so well; its honestly SO hard to replicate that.

All in all, this was a perfect read to get me through the slog of writing, blogging, Christmas, work, and so on. It was a short little escape into Hollywood and into a totally cute romance. I love that I can always expect Kasie to give me a taste of high school puppy dog giddiness. It makes me eager for each release that she puts out!
