Fandom Foodie Friday {9} – The Grey Stuff from Beauty and the Beast

Hello! Welcome to the Fandom Foodie Friday! If there’s one thing that always grabs my attention when I’m reading a new book or watching a TV show or movie, its the FOOD. Whether fictional or real, I often am left wanting to try ALL the foods. The only problem – I’m a terrible cook and an okay baker. So I’m taking recipes created by wonderfully creative people from all over the internet and figuring out if a newbie like me can figure them out!

Today, I made the grey stuff from Disney’s Beauty and the Beast. I’ve heard its delicious but I don’t know, maybe we should ask the dishes…

I love to read about food in books and I love food in movies and TV shows. I’ve always wanted to try making them but I’m honestly a terrible cook – I rarely make anything without heating something up easily in the microwave or the stove. I am not nearly as creative as some of the amazing people on the internet who come up with some amazing fictional food recipes! So I decided to approach it from a different angle – I would find recipes for some of my favorite food in fiction and try them out and share it with you! Are they easy? Are they doable? Did I mess up? Did it taste good?

And, of course, I’ll always give credit to the recipes that I tried!

One of the first things I thought of when coming up with ideas for Fandom Foodie Friday was the grey stuff from Beauty and the Beast. Its easily been my favorite Disney movie since it came out in 1991. Its actually the movie I remember first watching in the theaters and I worked really hard to be able to read and walk just like Belle. I’ve heard ‘Be Our Guest’ so many times that I just knew that I had to make the grey stuff!

I took this recipe from the Disney Family website so you know its pretty legit! I figured following an official Disney recipe was the best way to go! You can check out the recipe here.

The Ingredients – Milk, Chocolate and Cream Cookies (Oreos or store brand), Whipped Topping, Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix, Instant Chocolate Pudding Mix, Scalloped Cookies

I used almond milk because I was trying to be non-dairy as possible – hence the non-dairy whipped cream as well. I also used vanilla wafers instead of scalloped cookies.

Cost To Me – For everything, I would say roughly about $20

Time It Took – Less than an hour. The thing that took the longest was smashing the Oreos. I don’t have a food processor so I did it the hard way – I put the Oreos in a freezer bag and smashed them. It worked but it definitely took a long time.

The Difficulty Level –

 4 out of 5

This was not difficult in the slightest. Honestly it was just mixing things and making sure that it chilled in the fridge to thicken. The only reason I would give it a 4 out of 5 instead of a full 5 is because I definitely need a food processor. It was SO hard to smash the cookies without it and it ended up…chunkier than it probably would have if I could have ground the cookies more finely with a food processor. I also think that I lost some of the cream part of the cookies by doing it that way and so it turned out a bit darker than I anticipated. But all in all, so so easy.

The Taste –

 5 out of 5

I was honestly so unsure when I first tasted it, before putting it in the fridge. What?! I had to try it! But once I chilled it and it thickened – omg it was so good! The dishes don’t lie – its very delicious. Its sweet for sure but it isn’t overwhelming. You can taste each element of the recipe and piping into onto the wafer cookie made it so you didn’t simply just scoop it out and eat it – though I did do both!

The End Result –

In the end, I’m truly pleased with how it came out. It tasted delicious and it was so easy to make – it would make a great icing or topper for various cookies or desserts. I was a little disappointed it wasn’t more gray – it seems so dark – but honestly, I still think it came out great. Its definitely something I would make again!

Don’t forget to check out the Disney Family website for this recipe, and even more recipes and Disney crafts!

Happy Fandom Foodie Friday!
