Happy 1st Birthday WhatANerdGirlSays and Epic Giveaway!

So today is the first birthday of this blog, WhatANerdGirlSays!

I am so happy and proud and excited and all sorts of happy emotions about this day and this blog in general. What started out as something for me to do, a place where I could come to talk about all the books and movies I love without driving my family and friends and my boyfriend, became something that I am extremely passionate about, something that I work so very hard on. It has become something that I want to be part of my career, as I pursue a career as an author.

And I’ve had some amazing times and awesome opportunities as a blogger. I’ve met several authors. I’ve had the opportunities to interview Cassandra Clare, Eoin Colfer, Jessica Brody and I have plans to interview Cinda Williams Chima and Tammara Webber. I’ve met some amazing, fantastic, inspiration authors. I’ve had the chance to learn my ways around new conventions, expand my cosplay knowledge and get into movie premieres and meet cool celebrities. I’ve been able to meet some of the best fandom friends a girl could ask for: Megan, Sylvia, Paulina and Tatiana.

And the best part: I’ve had the chance to meet all of you!

I had three goals to meet by my one year anniversary of this blog: I wanted 200 followers on my blog, 300 followers on Twitter,  300 likes on Facebook and 10,000 views on this page.

Right now, officially, I have over 500 followers on the blog, 325 followers on Twitter, 3o3 likes on Facebook and 11, 625 views on the blog. So I surpassed my expectations :) And I’m ready to keep going and keep trucking and make this blog bigger and better than ever. I have goals to keep this blog going and to start and finish my third novel and to find an agent and sell it and make my dreams come true. I can do this, and I know I can do this because I have so many of YOU who believe in me.

I do want to say a quick thank you to some people: to my dad, to my siblings, to all the authors that I’ve met in the last year who have been so inspirational and supportive, to all the authors that I’ve read, old and new, that just continue to write books that give me the belief in myself. To the Los Angeles Dumbledore’s Army for showing me that I’m not the only nerds out there. To my iFandoms Collide girls, for just being awesome. And to my boyfriend, Jon, because I don’t know any other boyfriend who would put up with a crazy girl like me.

And I do want to take this opportunity to hear back from you guys! Seriously! I want to hear from you, so please comment on this post or contact me. I want to hear what you love about this blog, and maybe some of the things you dislike. I want to hear suggestions and all that. And I definitely want to hear about books that I should be reading so please let me know!

Congrats! And happy one year anniversary to your blog. :) Ah, I’m not sure if I’m the best person to be giving recommendations (I’ve only recently become a bookworm) but I really love The Hunger Games; Don’t Die, My Love (Lurlene McDaniel); and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe (C.S. Lewis).

Hi Sara! Happy Blog Birthday! So cool that you surpassed your expectations!

Hmmmm…lately, my favorite book to recommend is Divergent. :)

    • whatanerdgirlsays says:

Thanks Erin :) that is so incredibly sweet of you and thanks for coming by the blog! And thanks for the help on twitter! Oh an Divergent is a wonderful book. Have you read Legend by Marie Lu?

      • Erin says:

I’m happy to stop by! Great blog, BTW!

I have read both Legend and Prodigy. Have you? If so, did you enjoy? I must admit, I have serious love for dystopians!

I realized after I posted that I’ve been recommending The Immortal Rules lately too. ;)

        See you on Twitter!! ;)

      • Erin says:

Marie Lu is quite talented. And again, I <3 dystopians! ;)

The Immortal Rules is a vampire book, but it's not like most of the others I've read. It's raw, and the main character is fierce. It's part of a trilogy. Books 1 & 2 (Immortal Rules and Eternity Cure) are out, and Book 3 is due either the end of this year or earlier next year. :)

  15. wildpinklovebug says:

I couldn’t possibly choose between Looking for Alaska and The Fault In Our Stars by John Green, so I’ll go ahead and recommend both. They’re both realistic fiction books and John Green is an amazing author, so he manages to portray all the characters wonderfully! I really would recommend it to anyone looking for a good read, they’ll both make you bawl like babies but it’s certainly worth it!

  16. wildpinklovebug says:

First of all, I have to say congratulations on your achievements! You’re doing a fantastic job and I really love your blog, with all it’s book recommendations, blog recommendations, debates and informative and entertaining posts!

I couldn’t possibly choose between Looking for Alaska and The Fault In Our Stars (both by John Green), so I’ll have to recommend both! They’re both realistic fiction and John Green is an amazing author in many ways! He portrays the characters so well and the plots couldn’t be better! So, if you’re looking for a good read these are the books for you but, mind that, they’ll make you bawl like a baby so don’t say I didn’t warn you!

  17. Britny Aust says:

    Happy Birthday!!
Hmm… so many books, but you have probably read most of them. So, how about the Steampunk Chronicles by Kady Cross! They are great books, and the new one just came out recently!

  18. Rahne Tess says:

Happy 1st birthday! I love this blog, and your Facebook, and Twitter, I feel like a stalker! Anyways…soooooooooo many books, but I would have thought you have read them all. Maybe not. How about…oh! The Faerie Path Series by Frewin Jones!!! An amazing series!!

    • whatanerdgirlsays says:

Thank you so much Rahne! That means a lot to me, and I could always use the encouragement to continue :) I am grateful for the recommendations a well! I have never heard of that series :)
